This summer was tough, lots of real low water. I did start having some luck beginning of sept with a frog and some rain. I was fishing around the mid Atlantic, south Jersey, Pa, north east Maryland, and Delaware.
Yo Sad isn't it !!! Ole Matt makes us all look bad LOL.. Course he's in one of Americas best fisheries & he knows all the best spots he's learned over the years. I've fished in Minnesota before & it's the most fun at every place you have river systems. He's one lucky guy & you can tell he never takes this as no big thing . He has access year round to fish for everything from Smallies to river & lake monsters . Best fishing channel & right there with those famous fishermen from The In Fisherman show & magazine. No BS just fish & the sound of the rivers.
Like that you stated you fished earlier and didn't do good. Most people would have never even mentioned it. Nice to know you have some off moments too. Those are the days I usually appreciate my surroundings and just being able to get out and fish. As always thanks for sharing!
You have access to some really great fishing locations and, best of all, they are all public. Thank you for showing us it can be done even in northern waters.
I stopped your video at 2 minutes and grabbed my rod and went out to my dock. Put on a jig head and a 3 inch black worm and caught 2 smallies and a largey in 3 casts. Now I'm back to watching. Thanks for the motivation.
I’ve been following you for a long time! And yesterday I was in Canada and I caught my first northern pike 33 inch. I’ve been fishing all my life and I only had one other opportunity to go for it and I lost it lol. Check another one off the bucket list for me! Thank you for the great advice and videos! 🤘🏻🤙🏻
33 wow, nice catch! I'm in the cities of Minnesota (central east) and it's hard to find any pike of substantial size, I've caught probably 40 of them this summer and only a couple of them came anywhere near 33 inches
You forgot your other rod! haha, just kidding. man, any of those fish you were calling small guys would be a fine fish where I live in the Ouachita mountains. They live here but they take forever to grow up into big fish. Anything near 20" is practically unheard of. They're still pound for pound the most fun fish to catch though!
I had to make a trip back to my truck for more plastic and dropped the second rod off. I walked down the other side of the dam and tried over there too but the wind was blowing spray right at me.
I drove to a convenient spot (too old to climb down river banks now) very early a couple of mornings about a week and half ago near Red Lake Falls, MN. I had some of the best smallmouth fishing I have ever had, especially size-wise. Some of those larger (near 19 inches) fish just did not want to come in. I had my luck on a black twister tail. Too bad very cold air is in the forecast.
Very awesome! But, in wandering if you threw the plopper...I noticed that you didn't have two rods with you when you left...did you happen to forget it back at the dam? I have done that before! Lol
Was literally looking at swimbaits and thinking about some great videos you have done with them and here you are with a video using a swimbait what are the odds!
Wow! The rivers and streams there are just TEAMING with life! ALSO, awesome to see some BANK FISHING. That's all I can do as I have no boat of any kind. Great video Matt...as always.
Yak Angler video upload Great...Spidey sense tingling about the dam area Priceless. Favorite moment..."That spot looks fishy"...then one crank of the reel handle and BAM!! Thanks for sharing brother
Eating a bowl of cereal and fishing, can't get better than that on a cold October morning....well, you're fishing and I'm watching while eating cereal :)
Great video as usual, one thing that stood out though. He went down with two rods and came back with one, hoping that was just an edit and he did not leave the bait caster behind.
I live in the city and struggle so much, going from bayou to bayou, no rivers/creeks near me, trying to catch bass. I found a spawning spot last winter and got a handful but that spot is now infested with carp jumping out of the water, hundreds of them. No more bass there. Will move to the NW after finishing school JUST so I can fish. Thanks, Angler! Keep up the content.
Awesome video. Didn’t you walk to the spot with two rods and then walk back to your truck with only one? If I’m right I hope you retrieved the second rod! Love your vids.
Largemouth was flushed out from upstream of dam. You're correct ou wouldn't expect in such habitat but I'm certain he resided in slack vegetated water above dam. Along with that pike. You said they were working on the dam itself, they may likely have been releasing water at higher rate than usual. Thus releasing providing bonus species
NDYakAngler has become an inspiration fishing site to me in order to try new lures and tecniques. Yesterday Saturday I caught my first two bass on a wacky rig. Later on when the sun had just set I shifted to a Chinese imitation of your striped fat Whopper Popper and several bites succeded and got a 45 cm bass. The bites continued and it was a joy...until "bad" luck ocurred. In a shallow corner a monster brutally took my lure, jumped...and I could see its entire body out of the water at a distance of some eight metres. I bet it was over seven pounds. On just that jump I snapped my line as I made the hookset and the bail of my reel painfully hit my knuckles. The bass of my life was gone in a split second while that beast was suspended in the air. In the long drive back home I had a bitter sweet aftertaste. Well, that's fishing! One must learn from the mistakes. I am a rookie on brided line. Monofilament allows you some stretch. On this occasion the double uni knot didn't break. It was the leader snap union that failed.
@@ndyakangler Thank you Matt for your simpathy. Next weekend is the last one before cold weather sets in my area. I'll drive to the same reservoir and it would be great to catch that same marvellous bass and spare it the agony of having my lure stuck in its mouth and then release it so as it can continue to transmit its valuable genes. Most unlikely, I know...but it would be awesome...
You are a beast when fishing bro keep going but I love the whopper plopper and the spook because I see the whole action and aggressiveness of the smallies, that's cool
Great vid as always is this a recent trip? Action has really slowed here and I’m pretty far south of you. Those smallies you catch are just gorgeous keep it up!
This is from a few weeks ago. I haven’t been out since the start of the month, we got a new house and it needed a bit of work. Hopefully I’ll get out this week but the next couple days we have highs in the mid 30’s.
I’ve fished there several times and this was definitely one of the more productive stops at this spot! I’ll usually find one decent fish there and a bunch of little ones.
For whatever reason that spot is better on overcast and windy days. Only the fishing gods know why. My teenage son fishes that nearly every day and has pulled too many big smalles to count. He has also stumbled upon a 7 pound walleye and 25 pound cat there this summer. It was fun to see you there. That will make his day!
That was at least a decent little pike. Those little 1-2 pounders are the bane of my existence anymore. They're always hungry and tear up my tackle and my line. If they had any size to them, maybe I'd be happier but I'd rather catch a bass and not have to tie so many knots.
When my soft plastic gets destroyed I usually turn it belly up, so it can stand a few more strikes without getting off the hook. Sometimes it even works better that way.
I actually did that with mine! I filmed myself rigging it that way and explained why but I don’t think I caught anything before a fish completely ripped it off so I left the whole thing out of the video. I probably would have left it in but I had to do a quick edit last week so I could tear down my computer and start getting set up at my new place.
Man you are brave throwing straight line at toothy slime rockets. They are experts at cutting my line. I've lost so many of all kinds of lures to them that I put on a little steel leader if there's even a 10% chance of pike.
Actually you’re feeding all of our addictions 😂 I thank you 🎣🐟
You’ve caught more fish in a single trip than I have this past summer 😂

I hope you picked up your other rod that you set in the rocks!

Came to the comments hoping someone had already said this lol
Nothing better than waking up to this video on a Sunday morning
How bout actually being out there fishing with him?

I'm so jealous, all those fisheries you have access to, it's just incredible. Love your Channel.
😎🎣📹👍
This. I have nothing even close to this accessible in WA. Beautiful scenery and amazing fisheries with a chill angler on this channel.
I'm beginning to think I need to relocate, this seems like a Smallmouth Bass fisherman's Heaven. Thanks for the Sunday morning entertainment!

MN smallmouth fishing has spoiled me. 17" is a pretty average size, and usually manage at least one at or over 19" per trip.
Looked like you went down with 2 rods only left with one 😮
I had to run back up to my truck for another bass assassin minnow and dropped off the second rod.
It's like when I was a kid looking forward to Saturday morning cartoons.....Sunday morning therapy.
You didn’t choose fishing life !
