My personal headcanon: Yogi’s on the run due to Turner snatching up almost all of the Hanna-Barbera characters. The opening is actually footage of Yogi and Boo-Boo on the lam. The logo sequence isn’t actually real, and Nickelodeon airing Yogi Bear is just a trap set for him. Once captured, he’ll be relocated to Turner, who’ll set him free in the spacious playhouse that is Cartoon Network.
Nickelodeon did try to get lots of Hanna-Barbera shows around late 1990, Yogi Bear and its related spin-offs Yogi's Gang, Yogi's Space Race, Galaxy Goof-Ups, and the 1988 The New Yogi Bear Show reboot, Huckleberry Hound, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Magilla Gorilla, Quick Draw McGraw, Snagglepuss and Adam Ant. Only Yogi Bear managed to air on the channel.
Out of this bunch, Yogi Bear interests me the most if mostly for the amusement of a only Hanna-Barbera property that ever graced the shores of Nick in the early 90's on a non-Turner owned network/channel. USA Network's USA Cartoon Express has the rights to that library, pre-Cartoon Network.
I distinctly remember this opening bumper for Yogi Bear on Nickelodeon because my family recorded a couple Yogi bear shorts from the channel in the early 1990s.
Can you find and upload the 1st intro of Cartoon Kablooey (1990-1991)? The first opening intro where a voice-over said, "It's Nickelodeon's 'Cartoon Kablooey', with a kachoo, and a thunk, a foom, a eeek, a zowie, and a kaboom.......", and it featured the theme music from the "Modern Madcaps" series playing the background.
I managed to get hold of 4 or more episodes of Nickelodeon's Most Wanted: Yogi Bear, and all them followed the same pattern of shorts from The Huckleberry Hound/Yogi Bear/New Yogi Bear Show, and sometimes, episodes of Yogi's Gang, Yogi's Space Race, and Galaxy Goof-Ups was also shown as part of this show. That's what I can cleanly prove.
Nickelodeon didn't air at least 1 Yogi Bear short. The episode was "Yogi's Pest Guest" which featured a Japanese type character who meets Yogi and adopts to his routine lifestyle by stealing picnic baskets getting Yogi framed. Once it finally caught up, the Japanese guest is seen tied up hands and feel against a mini log carried out by two (2) park rangers, but was allowed to go free once Yogi convinced Ranger Smith that he will never, ever steal picnic baskets again. This was Nickelodeon's earliest examples of careful analysis of sensitive content that the channel wish to air it or not. By the time Yogi Bear aired on Nickelodeon, the Persian Gulf War was active and traces fo World War II and its Japanese involvement was still mellow in our minds and that at 1 scene from "Yogi's PEst Guest" would be too intensive for th echannel to air as we question how we judge our fellow Asians, hence "the past was mistake" conspiracy. Both USA Network, TNT, Cartoon Network and Boomerang has aired the episode short before, but it was banned on Nickelodeon and wouldn't or would've be done again in this day and age.
I know 2 of the original cartoons shown in the first half and 2 of the 1988 reboot cartoons in the second half during the afternoon and sometimes on weekend mornings Yogi's Gang, Yogi's Space Race and/or Galaxy Goof-Ups was shown as part of this program.
Ironically despite being “Nickelodeon’s most wanted” they occasionally aired “Yogi’s Galaxy goof ups” where he’s a space COP! How can a cop be most wanted?
