Like the part where Mickey & Minnie say "You know what two people do alone." before they literally start making mouse babies inside goofy's stomache? 💀Yeah, I'd say that's quite unsually unhinged, and is obviously pointing towards as an adult Joke.
Let's be honest, it IS pretty faithful to the original cartoons. It's like a modernized version of those cartoons. Those old cartoons were pretty unhinged. I remember one where they're cutting sausages with guillotines.
Fun Fact: Most of the people who worked for the Mickey shorts would later worked for Wander Over Yonder and The Cuphead Show. Strangely, a couple of them later worked for Space Chickens in Space.
One thing I appreciated; every animation based in different countries usually had Mickey and the gang speaking the language, wearing local clothing and the soundtrack also reflecting the location. Gave a unique flavor to the shorts and showed the effort put into them.
I wonder how long it took for some of the actors like Chris Diamantopoulos or Russi Taylor to nail their foreign dialogue for some episodes. Given they had to speak Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Portugese, and others.
I freaking ADORE this interpretation of Mickey Mouse. He's an actual character, along with the friends. Mickey and Minnie are COUPLE GOALS!! They're at their PEAK in this show.
Agreed. I'm so glad this show is finally getting recognized. It's funny, it has a unique style compared to every other Mickey mouse interpretation, and as you mention, Mickey's a actual character. Amazing.
@ryAxel2630 I know. That's why I couldn't watch those cartoons as a kid 'cause I'd feel so bad for him to the point where it felt cruel to keep watching.
0:13 I think it's because Bugs, Spongebob, and Mario have personalities and identities outside of being mascots. Mickey is also a lot more synonymous with Disney, since his head is literally the logo. Disney's nefarious actions also involve Mickey himself; like lobbying the US Congress to keep their exclusive ownership over him.
Well, to be more specific, the **Disney Channel* logo is the one that has Mickey's head as its shape. The Disney logo is more recognized by its iconic lettering from the mid 1980's to now.
That's not really the case, Mickey DOES have a personality and identity outside of being a mascot. There's plenty of shorts, series and Movies showing us that. People on the internet tend to forget that, and picture him as the greedy leader of a creativelly bankrupt company, when in fact he's a character with dreams, personality and his own identity.
Yeah no, I'd say Mickey has more of a personality than Mario. Even then that doesn't excuse the total character assassination that Mickey gets around on the internet with him being betrayed as an evil corporate mascot solely because he's the most iconic character within Disney's lineup but that doesn't mean he should be held accountable for Disney's greedy and horrible actions because then by that logic I could just make SpongeBob's entire personality him being a greedy soulless corporate boss because that's exactly what Nickelodeon is right now but that wouldn't be right because that's not SpongeBob's actual characterization. Do you know how many people don't like Mickey because they actually believe he's a corporate greedy, selfish, mean-spirited character?
@@martintobar7966 I blame South Park for that depiction of Mickey as a greedy, corporate, heartless (no pun intended) hack who just wants money. People just don't like separating the art from the artist, or in this case, the character from the company.
I agree with you there about Disney's actions being more tied to Mickey. The copyright law they lobbied for to keep ownership of him is literally nicknamed "The Mickey Mouse Protection Act." You don't see Warner Brothers Discovery or Paramount lobbying congress for laws that only benefit them in the name of Bugs Bunny or SpongeBob.
one thing i dont get was why this version of mickey mouse was discontinoued last year, its not like people didn't like this version of mickey mouse infact is was the complete opposite, i guess we'll just never know why this really great mickey mouse was cut so short
While it’s unfortunate that this series ended… I’m at the point where I’m kinda glad it did ONLY BECAUSE I feel like it began and ended on a high note. The greedy executive suits running the rest of Disney into the ground never got the chance to sink their teeth into the creative process, and that’s why the show shines as bright as it does. I do wish this show would have reshaped the fab 5 permanently. They’re so much more rounded as characters in this series, and less like the mascots the suits currently running Disney would prefer.
The best I can describe the Mickey Mouse series is the closest thing we will ever have to a modernized version of the 1920s-1930s animations. Back when animation wasn’t just for kids and was for everyone’s equal entertainment. It kept the classic formula, balancing the line between “unhinged” (and/or unpredictable) and comical.
Let me introduce you to The Cuphead Show. Made by the same people from the Mickey Mouse shorts, and is the second closest thing to 1920's-1930's we will ever get in the modern era (it even has film grain!) Also uses watercolor/stop motion backgrounds and keeps that line between unhinged and comical like Mickey Mouse 2013.
5:49 I’m surprised you never mentioned the funniest part of that episode. Which is when Mickey believes that the spooky noise out in the woods is just a squirrel, only for Zombie Goofy to reveal himself. The squirrel then screams like a girl, and runs away, but then walks back slowly to pick up his acorn with such a deadpan emotion, then screams like a girl again, but walk back slowly this time, with that deadpan face. This by far was the most funniest thing ever animated, and I’m surprised nobody has made a 10 hour repeat of that scene.
This is legitimately one of my favorite versions of Mickey Mouse. I adore the watercolor-inspired backgrounds, I love that both Mickey and Minnie have actual personalities and lives outside of each other, the animation is nice and snappy, and I love that this iteration of Mickey is the most faithful to his personality/shorts from the 1930’s (if you thought these shorts were unhinged, then you need to see his original shorts; they were just as unhinged). Paul Rudish also worked on The Cuphead Show on Netflix, which is basically these Mickey Mouse shorts but longer, and with Cuphead and Mugman. In case you want more unhinged rubberhose modern cartoons.
I remember watching those Mickey Mouse shorts A LOT as a kid in elementary and middle school. They always make me laugh, and they still do to this day. When I was watching the short where Mickey loses his ears, I was watching it on a computer in my elementary school's computer lab and when everything became silent and muted when Mickey's ears blew away, I thought there was a problem with the computer's audio, it took me a long time to figure out it was part of the short.
This very moment at 7:15 made me burst out in laughter. Besides that, I can agree with you, this series is unhinged, in a good way though. BTW my personal favorite episode is Potatoland; I always come back to that one.
Same here! I’ve always enjoyed the parks more then the actual movie so having an episode based on the parks made me happy (I love the it’s a small world reference its my favourite ride) I also love the feed the birds episode because it really pays homage to Walt, it quotes him, it’s named after his favourite song (the one from Mary poppins made by his besties the Sherman brothers) and for a split second you see him pop up
This series truly felt like it’s where 95% of OG Disney’s passion went. Corporate greed, and soulless executives is what took over their animated and live action FILM departments (from Disney, to Pixar, to Lucasfilm, and even Marvel). This series, however, remained untouched, and unstained by the disconnected suits running Disney (likely because they assumed it was mindless entertainment for children, and didn’t feel the need to get involved with the creative process). This series was an incredible breath of fresh air! The fab 5 were written 3 dimensionally, with so much more personality to love. The comedy and the animation was so infectious, I still binge watch the series frequently. This is by far my favorite version of Mickey (followed closely by Wayne Allwine’s King Mickey from Kingdom Hearts, and of course Walt Disney’s classic Mickey). Chris Diamantopoulos is insanely talented, and to me, he’s the definitive modern Mickey. The guy can scream, sing, and gravel his voice, ALL WHILE maintaining that high Mickey pitch. Genuinely insane talent! I have nothing against Bret Iwan… but Chris should be the MAIN voice of Mickey.
@breadandcircuses8127 Epic Mickey is one of Bret Iwan’s first projects as Mickey after Wayne Allwine’s unfortunate passing, and I gotta say it’s my favorite of Bret’s performances as Mickey! As an overall depiction of Mickey, I’d say it’s my fourth favorite depiction of the character!
@breadandcircuses8127 why not? He’s layered, and he’s not simply a mascot. Similar to this show, KH Mickey has more to his personality than being a happy go lucky character 24/7.
that’s your opinion, and you’re entitled to it. I still enjoy Kingdom Hearts, and I think that it’s a unique take on the typically happy-go-lucky character that’s typically depicted as nothing more than a mascot to mainstream Disney. That’s why (to me) Mickey Shorts Mickey, KH Mickey, Epic Mickey, and OG Walt Disney Mickey are all peak.
It's funny to think a mickey mouse tv series that was made for kids was more unhinged than mickey mouse series in like the 1920s where mickey mouse wasn't specifically made for kids

One of my biggest flexes is meeting the voice actor of Minnie at a Disney restaurant with goofy because my mom’s friends is good friends with the actress
The reason this Mickey is (at least one of) the best, is because he's an *actual character.* For the first time in a long while, he wasn't just a friendly corporate logo with as much depth as wet concrete.
Honestly, I think that there is a range to Mickey that I think needs to be contrasted with the world around him. The more morally good and intelligent he is, the more he has to work against those who are evil or to inspire those who are flawed like his friends. If he is not all knowing and/or all good, then everyone around him must be good enough to make up for or to show the comedy in his shortcomings. Good Mickey is inspirational, Bad Mickey is hilarious. Anything else is just Mickey Mouse.
This is why I love Mickey and why this is my favourite Disney series. It perfectly encapsulates what Mickey Mouse is truly about. Mickey in this is not the representation of a greedy billion-dollar company or some pre-school mascot. He is a modern interpretation of what Walt always intended him to be... A character.
Fun fact: Steam Silly was greenlit specifically to preserve the copyright of Steamboat Wille, which, although it failed, means that Disney *DID* want to keep the coptyright.
I remember the Mickey Mouse channel of this gave me a love tag on some comments I made like a "Sans" meme reference. For example, the part where Mickey, Donald, and Goofy lose their skins and became skeletons, I posted a comment "*plays Megalovania*, they hearted that comment.
This is what reignited my love with Mickey Mouse. This is Mickey at his core, not the money hungry greedy rat persona the internet has created for him. It's very Looney Tunes, which is ironic because Mickey and friends came waay before Bugs and his pals. The best part is that you can literally pick up any episode and enjoy it.
I freaking love this series. I remember seeing it on Disney Channel when it first released and I loved the humor. Reminded me of SpongeBob and TAWOG. Also this has my favorite version of Mickey and Minnie. I wish it never ended.
0:24 I feel the answers to these questions are sorta obvious. While Bugs Bunny, SpongeBob, and Mario are the most popular character creations of their respective companies, they are not mascots inherently tied to the identies of them like Mickey Mouse is for Disney.
You didn’t mention this ,but in Croissant De Triumph all the dialog is spoken in French same with all the other episodes that place in different countries.
I freakin' love these rendition of modern Mickey shorts. It's chaotic, but clever chaotic. Not like the later modern seasons of Spongebob where everything is so fast paced and every character does random meme-like faces every time they react to something. No. More like, the golden age of Cartoon Network clever chaotic. As in, during the late 90s and early 2000s. Those were the days man. But not really surprising since the modern Mickey shorts has Paul Rudish in its involvement. This guy has been involved in GOAT classics such as Dexter's Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls and Samurai Jack. Not to mention the modern Mickey shorts also has a quite the number of adult and graphic jokes. Even gore to some extent, disguised around a series of kid-friendly visuals. Which is also a staple of golden era cartoons. It's just so~ good.
This video is so nostalgic for me as a kid who grew up watching this series. I remember i used to loop 1:19 all the time and play where's my Mickey too much 😭
I think the evil mouse associations literally only come from how Disney uses his iconography for their logos. Most of those other companies you listed just don't use their mascot as a logo often or at all
@@dynamitoriel9056 People like you are part of the reason why not only Disney's RUINED, but also the reason why we keep getting overrated garbage like this.
It was always Walt’s legacy to make loveable characters - by mking then relatable. These modern day shorts have never been more dynamic and relatable to so many people - that it works.
i think Bugs Bunny probably hasn't been given the bastardisation treatment Mickey has had since Looney Tunes is more often a victim of the mismanagement, rather than the mascot sitting in exemption to it.
6:46 Fun Fact: The Whale here is Willie the Whale from "Make Mine Music" His whole story was about his desire to work in the opera, and he does get his wish, which is seen here
Honestly, Mickey as a character is actually a pretty wholesome guy, and he doesn't deserve to be in the same unfortunate length as his company, we can all still love the characters.
I remember stumbling upon one of the eps years ago and being like “Disney made this??? This is insane, I love it so much.” Very different from other recent iterations of Mickey. I’ve been on Runaway Railway and it’s lots of fun! The dancing segment is pretty funny, as they play a trick with the trackless vehicles that gets them to sway like a waltz, and then shake back and forth in a cha cha. I remember the first time I rode it, the other passengers and I were surprised and laughed a little.
Disney would do anything in their power to never rerelease and forget the “Evil” Mickey Mouse short from the 90s but they are totally ok showing the 2013 Mickey Mouse cartoons on UA-cam and disney plus
Looney Tunes was never afraid to parody anything or poke fun at Disney. Now Disney tried to go Looney Tunes with the Mickey Mouse cartoons, and they poke fun at.... themselves? Either way, Mickey Mouse will never have the status Looney Tunes does.
I care not for Disney as a company, anymore, nor do I wish to support them. Or st least, I wish to support them as minimally as I can. That said, Mickey Mouse has always been a hero to me, and he still is all these years later. Mickey deserves better, especially now that he's seeping into the public domain.
Why? I’m curious. And reeeeaaaally hoping it’s not due to any stance they’ve taken on LGBTQ+… because if it is, you’ve literally lost all credibility lol
@@ryanb4940 It ain't about that. Although *I'm* curious as to why I would have lost credibility about the LGBTQIA+ argument. My issues stem from four things in particular: 1. Record lows of recent films, as they are all Disney cares about these days. 2. General lack of care or empathy for employees (as seems to be common with conglomerates), for who knows how long. 3. Malicious copyright abuse, denying even children to use the characters (Recall the Mickey Mouse daycare trial, and the Spider-Man gravestone refusal for the child that died.). 4. Shady business decisions through the making of their media, and my mind goes straight to using North Korean internment camps for filming Mulan 2019, on top of thanking the North Korean government for its usage (in the credits).

This is an amazing video, I’ve always loved the 2013 Mickey Mouse shorts, they’re unhinged but amazing
12:41 I watched this years ago, all I can remember is that it ends with the 3 ducks, crying so hard
The reason this Mickey is (at least one of) the best, is because he's an *actual character.*
For the first time in a long while, he wasn't just a friendly corporate logo with as much depth as wet concrete.
6:47 the whale is actually a reference to a old Disney short and a sad one at that, let’s just say the whale doesn’t sing forever.
What is the name of the short
NV I found it "Willie the operatic whale"
4:40 The 096 scream caught me off guard 😂
A character.
ah hell nah who tf let the modern spongebob writers work on disney 💀😭
at least it funnier
😂
ah hell nah who *vine boom* *vine boom* WHAT DA HEEEEEEE *vine boom* kai cenat *vine boom* *vine boom* ohio *vine boom*

HOW DID THEY ALLOW THIS?! 💀☠️ 4:03
Cuz it's FUNNEH

💀
Let him pour ice cream Into his hot dog
They did that too before in 90s cartoons as it used to happen in 1930s to 1950s cartoons
FR I WAS LAYGHING MY ASS OFF☠️☠️☠️🙏🙏🙏🙏
Disney: we don't wanna show or depict Mickey in a way that seems out of normal.
Also Disney:
Well, he was an unhinged asshole in the earlier shorts...
0:06 I KNOW RIGHT! It feels that they like to target Disney mostly
And why do you think that is?
@@1992disney Their actions over the years.
@@victorfazbear9976 And what are their actions?
@1992disney It's a long list but all I can say is that Simpsons is on Disney+
@@victorfazbear9976 Then can you give me a few examples?
Rare footage of Modern Mickey having an actual character.
Fun fact: Steam Silly was greenlit specifically to preserve the copyright of Steamboat Wille, which, although it failed, means that Disney *DID* want to keep the coptyright.
7:15 AYO WHAT THE
I love how you clarified that the concept art of Epic Mickey was never intended to be used in the game. Because I always get nerdy over that game!
I remember the Mickey Mouse channel of this gave me a love tag on some comments I made like a "Sans" meme reference. For example, the part where Mickey, Donald, and Goofy lose their skins and became skeletons, I posted a comment "*plays Megalovania*, they hearted that comment.
no fucking way they know about Undertale
Give whoever ran that account a raise.
7:14 bro was busting so hard💀
0:24 I feel the answers to these questions are sorta obvious. While Bugs Bunny, SpongeBob, and Mario are the most popular character creations of their respective companies, they are not mascots inherently tied to the identies of them like Mickey Mouse is for Disney.
Well ive still seen art and meme potraying Mario as Nintendo like Mickey
The only incarnations I actually feel comfortable calling “Michael M. Rat” “Donny Pata” and “Lanky Brain-deficient Rat-Dog”
I really don’t think as kids we didn’t realize how unhinged this show actually was
You didn’t mention this ,but in Croissant De Triumph all the dialog is spoken in French same with all the other episodes that place in different countries.
0:18 who tf associates Spongebob not with Nickelodeon?!
This version of Mickey Mouse is the one I grew up with it’s so amazing I wish they kept making more episodes tbh
The is the ONLY non evil money-hungry CEO version of Mickey
Edit: (except the originals)
I remember i used to loop 1:19 all the time and play where's my Mickey too much 😭
this looks incredible. the absolutely chaotic unhinged nature of this makes me want to watch it.
7:13 BRUHH 😭
4:04 HOT DIGGITY-DOG
I think the evil mouse associations literally only come from how Disney uses his iconography for their logos. Most of those other companies you listed just don't use their mascot as a logo often or at all

It was always Walt’s legacy to make loveable characters - by mking then relatable. These modern day shorts have never been more dynamic and relatable to so many people - that it works.
5:49 this Traumatized me as a kid. i heard the title and i was mentally preparing myself, lmao
"Formerely viacom"
Viacom is the parent company that owns Nickelodeon and Paramount.
i thought it was the other way around
Viacom was rebranded in to Paramount recently. I guess for Brand sake or something.
7:21 vore be like:
The “:0 wha happen” line still makes me laugh to this very day
13:08 did my man seriously just say the "tooth" for the second?
i think Bugs Bunny probably hasn't been given the bastardisation treatment Mickey has had since Looney Tunes is more often a victim of the mismanagement, rather than the mascot sitting in exemption to it.
I don't usually watch Mickey mouse since it's mostly preschool stuff now. But the 2013 Mickey shorts is something that i still love to this day.
That title belongs to Fish Hooks or The Buzz On Maggie, but I will say that this is the definitive version of Mickey Mouse
6:46 Fun Fact: The Whale here is Willie the Whale from "Make Mine Music"
His whole story was about his desire to work in the opera, and he does get his wish, which is seen here

i had NO CLUE this show was official, like i found the idea of it being official so crazy i would never even think about it
was not expecting that clip of the dog things drinking hot sauce to end with them exploding
This show did more for Mickey than Disney has in over a decade. Now it is just *pRiNcEsS* company.
I loved this series. "Potato... land! Potato... Land! Potato........ LLLLAAAAAAAANNNNNNDDDDD!!!!!!"
I giggled and kicked my feet at the part in that episode where they did a potato-themed parody of the haunted mansion

Potato land was such an influential destination for me and my family. I remember countless summers down there
1:48 I can't stop laughing watching that episode🤣
I'm kinda surprised the oswald cameo didn't get a reference in this especially that epic mickey was
Epic Mickey was good tbh the best Mickey is Epic Mickey
Disney would do anything in their power to never rerelease and forget the “Evil” Mickey Mouse short from the 90s but they are totally ok showing the 2013 Mickey Mouse cartoons on UA-cam and disney plus
Ren and stimpy esque
*I LOVE HOW IT SYNCS UP SO WELL AT* 12:58
NAAAHHHHHHH BRO THEY USED THE KIRBY FALLING MEME IN 9:13
Looney Tunes was never afraid to parody anything or poke fun at Disney. Now Disney tried to go Looney Tunes with the Mickey Mouse cartoons, and they poke fun at.... themselves? Either way, Mickey Mouse will never have the status Looney Tunes does.
Hello fellow Looney Tunes fan! I appreciate your diagnosis on MM shorts' humour! 😀
It’s less of Looney Tunes and more of trying to bring back the style of Mickey’s old cartoons where he was actually funny
I just love it how it lasted 10 years
2:21 The Yeti is supposed to be a reference to the Matterhorn with the same yet and just off to the side you can see some of the Matterhorn bobsleds
This was definitely The best Micky mouse series I’ve seen in years
I care not for Disney as a company, anymore, nor do I wish to support them.

Man… potatoland? Thats a wild coincidence.
