    /* ---- VIDEO INFORMATION ---- */
Ok so House Of The Dragon Episode 7 is now out and throughout this video we're gonna be breaking down what happens, all the game of thrones easter eggs and how it ties in with the books. This review will contain some spoilers for certain things to add some context but I won't be spoiling any of the major deaths or reveals that happen down the line. Now the episode itself takes place during the red spring which was started last week with Laenas death. This happened during the first few days of 120 AC and like our own 20s it was complete s**t show. Shortly after this happened Harwin ended up perishing in the fire of Haranhaal along with his father Lyonel.
In the books Septon Eustice actually suspected Daemon of doing this and with the murder of Lady Rhea, Alicent might end up using him as a way to further push that side of the family away from the throne.
I'll talk about the other events that happened in the year as we get further into the breakdown but the entire year saw some major shakeups that will have massive rammifications for whats to come.
We're gonna be breaking it all down but if you've been enjoying the video then please hit the thumbs up. Hit the subscribe button if you want your daughters to marry my sons and we can finally join our houses in this great union. With that out the way, thanks for clicking this now let's get into House Of The Dragon.
    -
Now we open the book with Laena's funeral and all the houses gathered together to pay their respects. Ey shut up...he...he nah is pretty funny.
Anyway her sarcophagus is clearly based on the ones that Ancient Egyptians used to bury their Pharaohs.
There is the Seahorse Sigil that the family has on the bottom and we can also see that there's a strong focus on the hair around the face. Like the Targaryens, The Valeryons were known for their distinctive hairstyles and that's why Alicent became so suspicious when Rhaenyras kids came out with neither. The Strongs in the books were described as having brown hair and pug noses and this is a similar sort of thing to how Ned discovered that Cersi's kids weren't Robert Baratheons.

If by calling the book "canon," you mean that the book contains the genuine story, I think that's wrong. The story goes it was written by maesters with incomplete information, yes? But the show has a single, objective narrative. And seeing as GRRM is very involved in the show, it makes sense to me that it's the show that is depicting the _real_ history -- the third person omniscient story. The maesters stories are inaccurate.

I disagree over comparing Rhaenyra to Alicent when she was having sex with Damen, as I believe she wasn’t zoning out (like Alicent did w/ the King). I think that moment was about her finally becoming who she is meant to be, and she doesn’t feel that until becoming one flesh w/ Damen (first by confessing her love, then sex to become ‘one flesh’, then ending with the Targaryen traditional wedding ceremony). Alicent did not follow a similar path, as she (IMO) was an abused child who just did her leech father’s bidding from the beginning to the end. She never became who she was meant to be, because her real self was buried under her father’s incessant demands about duty over all else.

Alicent is an abused girl turned into "omg wtf she's crazy...." Which is insane to think people are just skipping. i know the show is moving fast but alicent never had a chance to ever be anyone but the pawn she was made into. She felt companionship in Rhaenyra when they were younger bc they both hated their role. As they grew up Alicent was basically forced to continue that role as rhaenyra got what she wanted ultimately which was a seat at the table and alicent got to get raped by some old sick dude. lol. lets just call it what it was. Rhaenyra hated she was a female to be wed off and so did alicent except alicent never got the chance to dispute that and rhaenyra did. She is not the pawn she once was now she is the one moving the pawns. In that she has her abusive father spewing into her ear that once rhae comes to power her children will die, yet again leaving her with nothing and none, and so of COURSE she's "crazy" about duty and loyalty and all the things you are "supposed" to be bc rhaenyra is a direct contradiction to that. add onto that rhaenyra's kids can literally stab her kids in the face with ABSOUTELY NO ACCOUNTABILITY and boom. you get "omg wtf she's crazy...." if Aegon stabbed out jaces eye and rhaenyra said i want his eye... he'd be missing an eye right now and i think that's exactly the hypocritical bs that alicent is totally sick of and afraid of.

@@christypassy As much as I think Daemon could be a great character this seems very in line with how he's been portrayed. He's a paper dragon, VERY little of what he says and does lives up to the hype. He takes Dragonstone then runs away when his Nuke is countered, He goes to fight Crabfeeder and is ineffectual compared to Laenor. He wants Rhaenyra but doesn't really, and runs at the first sign of trouble. He's shown not to be an A1 warrior better at killing incapacitated people, not too cunning, as he joked about his now Wife's dead brother and mother and most importantly STILL plotting on a throne he would be horrible for. I think Aemond would eat him alive Prime v. Prime. I mean at least Aemond has an actually shitty older brother to rail against.

About the book reference of Laenors death: GRR Martin himself admitted that the book "Fire and Blood" on which this series is based was written from the POV of the maesters, which not only gives the show creators some creative freedom, but also the minor changes that they make (which in this case is Laenor actually surviving and escaping across the narrow seas) not actually incorrect. Quite frankly, i love it.

He is clearly uninterested in being King. Alicent is being f****** paranoid for no reason and CAUSED the whole thing!! Her son's would have been completely safe and live life out as powerful Lords married off to powerful other ruling families. But she had to be spitting poison in their ears causing strife and conflict and hate between them and Rheneryas kids! Also Alicent's second son is a sociopath!! It's certainly not the fault of the children born into bastardy, but including them in the line of succession would certainly cause bloodshed. After all, if you were the one displaced, or it was your child displaced for inheritance, would you just let that go? Personally, I'd prefer to be a younger sibling. I think Daemon chuckled because Vaemond, by staring at Rhaenyra, was trying to put it across that her children are clearly not Velaryon, because as seen in Laena's children, "blood like ours runs thick, ours runs true, ours can't be thinned". So he laughed at the low-key jab Vaemond was putting across. (And maybe a little foreshadow laugh knowing how the Velaryon blood would be thinned out eventually when the daughters would be married to Targaryens?)

Interestingly enough, Rhaenrya only married Laenor to join the Targaeryan and Velaryon houses if she had met Lord Strong's son before that he would have made a decent enough match and King Viserys probably could care less. But the fact is she married Laenor and everyone knew that would not result in them having children. So the real reason Viserys is so intent on just letting Rhaenrya's sons true parentage go unspoken is because he's trying to have his cake and eat it too. On one hand Rhaenrya has sons to carry on the line, on the other house Velaryon is in the fold despite the fact that both are impossible at the same time.

The point made was Viserys doesn't have his family's back.
I am saying that he does have his family back....esp his daughter's back.
What he should have done was actually listen to Otto from the beginning when he suggested that Rhaenyra marry Aegon.
It would have squashed all family feuds and both sides would have gotten what they wanted.
      Let them rule together instead.
But because Viserys felt such guilt of killing her mother, he wanted his weak daughter to have it all, even though she is not the realm's favorite. Bad decisions.

18:31, with the first apparent cut being on his back before his decision to appoint his daughter as the next monarch, its arguable his people pleasing and hesitancy to do anything that would alter the general state of the realm was what brought on the disease from the throne. Additionally there’s the fact that he was about to make sure his wife was about to make gave birth to a boy at the expense of her life, which went against his decision to make his daughter queen. The indecision and attempting to make everyone happy, which ends up angering everyone instead, is likely the weakness the throne is “punishing” him for.

As to this whole 'they changed it up from the books' concept, I think it's quietly a kind of brilliant idea... Playing on the notion that history is 'written by the victor'. Or more broadly, that history is almost always subject to the interpretations of the teller. It's a fascinating, almost meta way to play on this concept, producing mythology within mythology within mythology, all inside a fantasy.
It also kind of subverts the idea of the 'canon' being the books, as opposed to the show(s). The show presents itself as the 'real' story, and the book(s) as 'lore' or 'myth'.
    Lovely stuff 👌

We actually cannot take our real history for granted, why take fantasy stories for what they aren`t? And yes, I´m also enjoying the twist canon vs lore here, imo it helpes to understand how easy it is to become biased :))

From the scene it looked like Rhaenyra had control over the dagger not hurting her but controlled it perfectly so that she could frame her.
