Ok so House Of The Dragon is about to change the Game...Of Thrones and Episode 9 has a lot going on with it. The penultimate episode takes focus on the lean green Queen machine and it cements her villain arc and quest for power. In this video we're gonna be breaking down what happens in it, the easter eggs, book differences and also giving our thoughts what could happen in the finale next week.
This has been a massive season and I wanna thank you for all your support so far. We recently got our million subscriber plaque and it means more to me than a seat on the Iron Throne so I really appreciate it.
Now the episode is called The Green Council and this term was coined by Grand Maester Munken in the book. The name brings a lot with it as it of course shows how this once unbiased council has now been twisted by alicent into supporting her side.
Whereas the previous episodes all centred around Chapter 12 we are now in 13 which is titled the Dying Of The Dragons The Blacks Vs Greens. This war between the houses took place between 129 - 131 AC and the two years featured lots of deaths and the characters treating the Iron Thron like it's a game of musical chairs.
The period is known as the dance of the dragons but in the book its said that the phrase Dying of The Dragons is more suitable. The work is very much a chronicle of this time told to us by witnesses and maesters and it states that due to them trying to add a poetic flair to the story that they changed it to Dance.
However it's an extremely brutal period that's described as seeing several of the last dragons being wiped out. The source material says it was a war marked by stealth, murder and betrayal which we see from this openining. - Розваги

She doesn't want to murder in EVERY situation, she ONLY does it when it's necessary. That should be obvious.
I think Alicent was shocked how her father could heartlessly order the death of Rhaenyra. Seeing how Otto has known her since she was born.
Daemon never wanted to rule or get the throne. Daemon wanted to be his brother’s Hand, to protect him from people like the Hightowers and to protect the Targaryens’ lineage
Yeah, the more I think about it, it seems Otto was lying about how Daemon did a bad job at all the different stations he was in command of. Yes Daemon is ruthless but he’s also intelligent.

I love that both lord beesbury ,and the lord commander had the decency to follow King viserys wishes even amongst the green council meeting.
They knew him the longest - they knew his true wishes. They also recognized a coup when they saw one.

To that end, how the heck is Criston Cole still around? This is the second time he has beat someone to death in front of many witnesses. I guess Alicent will keep protecting him as long as she needs him.

Rhaenys is so misunderstood and it was especially proven after the talk she had with Alicent. She’s crafty, not cruel. She’s strong for her (immediate) family, she’s not selfish. Such a badass moment from her in this episode, I’ve been waiting for her turn lol

I like how gray every character is and Rhaenys is amazing. She honours her husband and her promise to Viserys, even though she didn't agree at first. She's also wise not to mass murder Hightowers, that's not her war, but she definitely chose her side loud and clear.

Rhaenys was by far the mvp of this episode. The scene where she tells Alicent she's still letting men use her as a pawn to gain power, then showing her she's not afraid of her by party crashing Aegon's coronation with her dragon. Props to Eve Best for absolutely killing this role.
Rhaenys was being used to for power from Corlys. All the women are.

Loved the ending. I thought that Rhaenys would slip out to go to Rhaenyra, but her just breaking through the floor was just so much better. I liked the look between her and Alicent, made me feel like Rhaenyra was like “yeah I was not the queen, but I will not let the same mistake happen again”

@@poca791 she sent a huge message to the Hightower family. The war is on and she’s on team Black. She previously agreed to the marriage between Rhaeneryas kids and daemons. There on good terms. Plus if she murdered the Hightowers we wouldn’t have a season 2. Makes no sense to do so. And the murder of innocent people have been normalized. They don’t matter 😂

For all the good things about this show, the casting is one of the worst. The Rhaenyra is much uglier than the first and Aegon looks fucking younger. Not to mention Sir Criston didn't seem to even age.

@@thebugman8696 Rhaenyra is described as much uglier and fat in the books with every child birth. One of the reasons she hates Alicent is because the latter keeps her shape despite multiple children. For Aegon and Aemond... There are numerous examples in the world of younger siblings looking older than older siblings, as they age. Ser Criston is an adult when he sleeps with Rhaenyra. Most men hardly change their outlook between late twenties and late thirties or early forties especially if they martially active, that is, the guy is literally training daily.

Another great episode!! Rhaenys showed so much restraint!! I KNEW when she said she wasn't leaving without Meylys she damn meant it. I'm 100% team black, but I swear, this is the FIRST time I had respect for Alicent. For FINALLY standing up to Otto and for trying to have Rhaenyra's back. Makes their story that much more tragic.

the first time I heard helaena say it at the family meal, I did think she was saying "you are the beast beneath the boards", and specifically addressing aegon. though on second listen, I thought she said "beware".
also the scene earlier in episode 9 where she interrupts alicent as she's tryingto say that the king is dead made it seem a lot more like she was talking about a spy listening, because she stopped alicent from telling a secret.

I don't get how everyone just accepts Allicent's word as to what the king wanted. I think, deep down, she knows that wasn't what the king meant.

I'm not so sure about that. I'm team black but I'm very sympathetic to the show's version of Alicent and admittedly I'm biased towards her. I think she seems incredibly troubled by what Viserys said. I think she feels extreme conflict because she wishes to honor what she believes to be his wishes but sees as clearly as everyone else that Aegon is unfit to rule. She resents and almost rejects him, only held back by her instinctual mother's love. It seems like she regrets even telling her father at all. But of course, that's me interpreting Alicent in the most sympathetic lens possible as a black

I was thinking when Alicent smiled looking at her crowned son i thought, 'the monster under the floor' was a reference to Aegon and his depravity. Then literally a second later the real monster comes crashing up thru the floor. Holy shit that was epic
Meleys really reinforced the fact that dragons are majestic, powerful creatures, he and Rhaenys could have put an end to the insurrection with the utterance of a single command. I don't know if it was just me but there was a lot of underlying tension in literally every second and every scene in this episode, that didn't necessarily get paid off. I fear that the season finale might be a very dark one, in a figurative sense.
This scene was made up not part of the books, this very entrance doesn't make sense
it was a really cool scene, but a rather inexplicably bad decision by rhaenys not to kill the greens. it also was really oddly bad decision making by the greens to create tension - it's highly unreasonable that they would have stood there all together instead of scattering.
@@Ass_of_Amalek her very entrance alone could have killed all the greens had maeleys came up in the right spot. That alone creates a big hole. Soon as the show runners go "creative" the start producing unsensible moments.

I do think Viserys was offed, but it wasn't the Queen, it was Otto. When he stopped being hand, Viserys seemed like he was getting better, then after losing Strong and Otto coming back, he declined again. If Otto wasn't directly trying to kill him, he was definitely not doing him any favors on the medical side. Didn't his old Maestors come back when Otto returned? I got a bit confused on the Maestor part of who was treating him. The book has nothing about this, but I wonder if the show might hint at it or even use it as another conflict point or something, that or I am just seing crap that doesn't exist... again :)

Otto has been plotting since the first episode. Daemon was the only one that saw Otto for what he was from day one.
Like he also mentioned that his father had conveniently died before Otto was offered hand of the king. I think the man was poisoning them both.
I don't think Otto had Viserys killed, he may be a scheming piece of garbage but he was visibly upset when he heard of Viserys's death, and keeping a sick and decrepit king alive gives him more power as Hand
Rhaenys just became one of my favorite characters. Such a great moment for her.
I can't help but remember that in the last episode Rhaenyra said to Alicent "I will return on dragon back". At the time it sounded innocent enough, but given recent events, I think it's a portent of things to comes.
I love how this show gives us moments that could have changed everything and avoid catastrophe BUT things still go wrong
I forgot to add ... Rhaenys has been to battle before and knows the power of the dragon. Even though that scene killed innocent people, she chose not to burn them alive. She was making a stand and having the balls to do it at Aegon's coronation.

Is anyone else as confused as I am about Rhaenys and not killing Alicent due to "A mothers love" when she crashed through the floor and more than likely killed a ton of other mothers and fathers? The scene was unreal don't get me wrong, but I am confused about it all at that moment. Am I missing something? Was that the only way to get her dragon out?
This show is amazing. God, Season 2 can't get here fast enough 😥

You referred to Rhaenys' dragon as Meraxes. Her Dragon is Meleys. Meraxes was the mount of Aegon's sister wife and one of three dragons (Vhagar and Balerion) instrumental in Aegon's conquest

I am amazed by how better episode by episode this series gets. The surprise that Rhenys gave at the end since it isn't mentioned in the books is brilliant.

It looks like Aegon really wants the throne now he seemed to be relishing in the idea that he was in control. Just look at how he makes everyone bow and smiles around the crowd. He could be trouble.
My lady and I were dying during the foot scene because as the episode was starting we were inquiring what Larys wanted and why he was manipulating/helping the queen. The fact that it was just to see some toes destroyed me😂😂

I had so much anxiety watching this! If there was ever a time a cellphone was needed it was when Rhaenys was locked in, but seeing her on her dragon was everything!!!
I think the part where Alicent says "You imbecile" is more of her subtly saying "I did all this damage for you so that you can be king and you ask me that whether I love you? You imbecile." Her smirk probably adds id a bit of motherly love to the dialogue.
She served men to get in power and has a purpose in life. I do think she was embarrassed and is truly more interested by power than the love she could have for her son.
I like how no matter how shady and bad these people are, they all genuinely are sad about the kings death. Dude was a loveable guy
Bro Rhaenys threw me all the way off with that! 😂 That was so lit bro! What people don’t understand is that she isn’t on anyones side! She just wants to be left alone. Especially since her husband and kids are gone. Her being Queen was never gonna happen so she wanted to just do her and that’s exactly what she did 😈
Finally somebody else who gets her. Yeah she has never picked a side. She just wants to live peacefully with her family and not get involved in the crazy succession mess. To me this was just her saying I won’t be manipulated by anyone.

Yes at the end she goes to tell Rhaenyra what happened, but I don’t think that’s her taking a side. I just think that’s her doing what she thinks is the right thing to do by letting Rhaenyra know what happened and that her father is dead. She doesn’t have the crown with her by the way, one of the twins have it I think. I know in the books she takes the side of team black, I’m just going by what I see and interpret from the show since they’re not going exactly by the book. What I’ve seen from her is that she has never firmly taken a side. She has always been on her own side, doing what she thinks is right. Usually by just telling the truth like in ep 8. Now in the next episode we will probably see her become team black, but even if she is team black. I just don’t see her as someone who is full ride or die because she has issues with people on both teams. So that’s all I meant is that she like everyone on the show is a complex intricate character with more than what appears on the surface. Which is why the show is so good is that not one character is one sided, they are all gray complex characters.
Then proceed to fight the green in the dance anyway? She accept the marriage proposal between her granddaughters and Rhaenyra's sons. She clearly picked a side. Making her fly out without burning them all is nothing more than poor writing decisions made just to keep the story going. The scene shouldn't even exist, it's stupid.
This episode was intense!!!! I can’t wait for the finale next Sunday!!! 🔥

Helaena is my favorite character, I can't wait to see more of her. When she was talking about people wanting what others have, do you think she is talking about Aemond? He wants to be king and earlier in episode 7 he kinda hints that he wanted to marry Helaena. So maybe the civil war within the civil war might not be so far fetched.
Aemond has no love for his brother lol remember that whole pink dread prank was Aegons master plan. His drive to become who he is now all stemmed from being better than Aegon first.

I think this ep shows Alicent’s decent into madness. She actually begged her son and he replied with do you love me. Her actions aren’t matching up with her body language and she appears lost! This was a great episode and great breakdown!

Amazing episode. That ending was epic. Huge flex from Raenys since she could have ended them all right then and there. But I believe she knew it was too late. Aegon had been crowned and no matter her choice, the kingdom would fall into chaos.
nah, the coronation would have simply been undone by her killing aegon and the rest of the greens present. everybody knew that the actual named heir was rhaenyra. the only challengers to her claim would have been aegon's incest babies. rhaenys 100% should have torched the greens, and it's highly unreasonable that she didn't.

i feel like hotd took out the rubies for aegon because red and black are the colors of rhaenyra's team. whilst, alicent/aegon's are green, which is the only colorful color beside the crown that juxtaposes its dark color. perhaps, signifying that green will be the only color seen through this crown or rather, reign.
