As cursed as it may be, there was actually a launch escape tower designed for the Gemini capsule, supposed to fly on the Gemini Ferry (which sadly never left the drawing board)
An LES should've been there instead of ejector seats. In a pure oxygen environment, they dump you out next to what is essentially a bomb, and if you're ejecting, that bomb has most likely lost control. Not to mention how there was a very high chance of just ejecting straight through the hatch and dying
Everything about this is like if the soviet moon mission was americanized lol. The old modified hardware (Gemini instead of soyuz), the lack of a docking tunnel (Necessitating eva for transfer), the 2 person capule and 1 person lander, the tiny descent stage, its really amazing to think about.
And if the Soviet moon program had gone better than it historically did, you might well've seen something like this flown in order to be sure of beating the Soviets.
At that moment, the Soyuz was a brand new ship. And it was intended for a lunar flight (7K-LOK). The orbital version (7K-OK) is a branch of the lunar program, and not vice versa. The following versions had a pressurized docking port, starting with Soyuz-10 - 7KT-OK (although some Soyuz 7K-T and 7K-TM series (Soyuz-Apollo program) were used without a docking port for various reasons)
In terms of space, I would be more worried about the Gemini itself - it is about the size of a compact car inside, but they would have to spend a week inside it
How would the lander pilot have gotten into the lander if they had gone with this concept? I'd guess the pilot would need to perform an EVA to climb out of the Gemini command module before climbing into the lander and pressurizing it for the journey to the surface. Then, when it comes back, the pilot would have to perform another spacewalk just to get into the Gemini capsule to begin the journey back to Earth.
alternate history where Kenedy had no sexual scandals, survived assasination. Had it framed on the soviets trying to slow america's progress, and ordererd the gemini program to attempt perliminary moon landings before apollo
Can't use the moon lander. Already installed everything requested. It apparently misses "bluedog.Apollo.Block2.RCSquad". Any ideas? I've been trying for a while and I just LOVE the lander. I've checked in the official BDB files and the missing file doesn't even exist there.
That's a part that got changed in a new(ish) BDB update, so older craft files with it aren't compatible anymore. The lander itself should be really easy to build though, it's like 10 parts.
@@salticus Alrighty. Thank you so much for the help! Edit: For anyone having this issue, download BDB 1.10.3, copy-paste the missing file into your current BDB KSP folder and you'll be good!
A new BDB update that changed some parts broke the craft file. I can't remember how I built the lander exactly, but I think I placed the structure under the Lander can and then used the offset tool to move it up.
Seeing a launch escape tower on a Gemini capsule feels so wrong lol

@@famlrnamemssng Plus, the ejection seats took up a lot of room in the already cramped capsule

Looks like constellation but with Gemini, very cool concept
All round a phenominal video
Thank you!
Really nice video, very much enjoyed it! Makes me excited to build and progress in KSP RSS/RO RP-1!
great music choice btw, absolute vibe lol.
Thanks! The music choice is probably one of the hardest part of making such a video
it looks like the astronaut wouldve been uncomfortable in that small of a lunar lander. it would give me claustrophobia, otherwise very cool video!
The lander was a little cramped, but the view was full of space!
-Jeb, probably.

Really nice!
Seeing a Titan SRB used as a standalone launcher like the Ares I feels so cursed.
AMAZINGNES!!!
lol it looks like sls(the first launch)

Correct. That was also the plan for the actual Gemini lunar landing proposal and the planned Soviet lunar mission.
Gonan borrow some of this for a future Minmus mission.

nvm i do
