    I purchased a 2018 PW Ascent 3 months ago after looking at the Agile. My use case is the same as yours, mobile office, mostly short trips (3-5 days), and 2nd car/mobile kitchen and bathroom. I never plug in the Ascent or run the generator (except to run the AC), I just charge through the solar and driving. Even on a 5 day boondocking trip the power and tank sizes were more than adequate. Its important to note that driving the Ascent fast charges the lithium batteries. My normal driving plus solar keeps the batteries topped off. I installed a Victron Battery meter to ensure I was getting sufficient charge. The most I've camped parked without driving is 2 days, we usually do some sort of exploring/driving which tops off the batteries. I'm a software developer and run 2 MacBook Pros pretty much all day. I guess if you just drive into the woods and park for a week without driving you might need more solar/battery. I was originally drawn to the Agile because of the Engine Generator but ultimately decided (personal opinion) its better to run the generator for several hours over idling the engine for several hours just to run the AC. Ultimately I was more comfortable with the build quality and layout of the Ascent. I agree with your assessment on the refrigerator and wish it was a compressor fridge. I also park on a steep incline at night and don't run the 3Way fridge during my "office days". Instead I carry a Dometic CF18 behind the passenger seat plugged into the lithiums. I use the 3way fridge on trips. Thanks for your videos, its great to see what another Ascent owner does!

    You are so right about "the small details that start to add up." Even for someone like me who isn't necessarily choosing between these two specific models, this was incredibly helpful in identifying and defining the various features and "small details" that newbies like me might be completely clueless about. And without all of the pressure and potential dishonesty (or should I say "selective honesty") of an RV salesman. Thank you!

    Pretty good comparison. When I started my quest for a new RV, I immediately decided that I wanted the short 2500 Sprinter-ease of parking, including at home, rather than having to store elsewhere, was important. Although there are custom van converters that will convert either size, the 2500 and 3500, only Roadtrek and PleasureWay are regularly building “factory spec” 2500 versions, other than the Winnebago Rebel, on the 2500 FWD chassis-but a quick check online shows that only half a dozen Winnie dealers will have those.
    So I first looked at the Agile. I saw a privately owned Agile, and the owners’ son showed me through it. The nearest dealer got one in, but because someone had put money down, the dealer wouldn’t allow me to see it-weird. Supposedly they had 2 more on the way, so I asked for a call when they had one. Still waiting, several months later.
    Then I learned that a nearby dealer sells PleasureWay. They had 3 Ascents on the way, not pre-sold. I was asked if I’d consider putting a refundable deposit down to be first in line. The day I drove to do that was the day the first of the three arrived. I looked it over, drove it, and decided to buy it-if I’d ordered one instead, it would have been identical.
    Besides the different attitudes of the dealers, here are some of the items that the Ascent has that the Agile doesn’t which made the difference for me:
    >A sink in the bathroom-large enough to use, but small enough not to be too intrusive.
    >An openable bathroom window.
    >A real generator instead of one that relies on the chassis engine (I had a gas version of the same generator on my old RV).
    >Noticeably better cabinetry. Not only are the cabinets more solid, but the joinery is better.
    >The 3-way refrigerator at a higher, more accessible level, not under the kitchen counter. My old RV had a similar frig, though not as sophisticated, by the same manufacturer, which worked well for 4 1/2 decades.
    >A reasonably sized microwave. We have a combo microwave and convection oven in our home and use both features, but in 4 1/2 decades, I can count on one hand the times we used the oven in the old RV-and it was a good oven.
    >The open “feel” of the layout. For me, there’s no driving benefit-neck surgery several years ago limits my neck movement somewhat, and I’m very comfortable using the mirrors instead-but the openness makes it seem larger.
    >The deluxe safety features that PleasureWay orders from Mercedes.
    >The Truma water heater, which has the potential to save quite an amount of water.
    Other comments:
    >The Ascent’s propane tank is only slightly smaller in capacity than 2 20 lb. propane bottles. We carried a spare bottle in the old RV, but never had to use it.
    >The old RV carried 30 gallons of water. With a family of 4, we’d typically use about half of that on a 4 day, 3 night stretched weekend, with daily showers, so 20 gallons is plenty adequate.
    Unnecessarily large tankage means carrying unnecessary weight. A gallon of propane is 4.2 lbs., and a gallon of water is 8 lbs. A steel propane tank that holds twice as much will weigh nearly twice-roughly 125 lbs. full vs. 70 lbs. full. A plastic/fiberglass water tank that holds 35 gallons will weigh roughly 290 lbs. full vs. 170 lbs. for a 20 gallon tank. That 175 lb. difference is important, depending on other things that one might carry, such as tables, chairs, bicycles, etc. Both rigs have the same GVW; the less unnecessary weight, the more “stuff” that can be carried safely.
    So far, I’m very satisfied with my choice.

      Cary, this is a great comparison in its own right. Thanks for sharing with me and others. I like your analysis of the tank sizes versus weight. You make a good point. I also found the Pleasure Way dealers to be more helpful than the Roadtrek dealers I had interaction with.

      Cary, great reply. 4.5 decades? It's really great to read people talking about experience. I'm brand new to RVs and I know I can benefit from trials and tribulations that others have gone through so that I can cut out the bad stuff right away. So many excellent points.

      Thanks Cary, I agree that it’s great to hear from another experienced rv’er. Particularly helpful is knowing that a family of 4 can get by on 15 gallons of water for a long weekend including showers. We are first time buyers trying to figure out what we need. Want to be able to boondock so I thought we would need a lot more water but also didn’t want to get bogged down with extra weight. Happy travels!

    • @calburnIII
      @calburnIII 6 років тому +2

      Joyce, you have to learn how to be miserly with the water, and it took us awhile to learn all the tricks. Reading about saving water is one thing; putting it into practice is something else. After several months, you’ll have it down pat.

    • @calburnIII
      @calburnIII 6 років тому +3

      I realized a couple of days ago that I “misremembered” the water tank size of my old rig, when I wrote my earlier comment. It held 50 gallons in two 25 gallon tanks, not 30 gallons in two 15 gallon tanks. So I had the time right but not the water usage in that time. Sorry if that was misleading.
      It still means that the 20 gallon tank of the Ascent is plenty for a couple for a 4 or 5 day trip, if they are conservative.

    Neil,
    Fantastic vlog. I've watched a ton of RV videos but it seems that not many owners/dealers do direct comparisons between different models. I predict that this video will be one of your highest viewed. Especially useful was your breakdown of the multiple "standard" options on either vehicle. The practicality of the size black/gray/fresh water tanks was really useful for me as a brand new RV member just getting into the community. I found every point you highlighted quite informative. Truma instant hot water. Solar power and lithium ion batteries. 3 way refrigerator. Open air layout. Multiplex cabling. It's quite clear, PW has really paid attention to how owners will use their vehicles. Right now, I'm still in the early stages of trying to decided if the PW larger size vehicles are better suited for me. The 19ft Ascent is only 3-4ft longer in length than my 2008 BMW X5. :O. That's so cool. I really like the B+ PW Plateau layout. The XLMB dry shower is gorgeous. I'm 6'2 so think the extra height might be less claustrophobic but then I lose the steathiness of the Ascent. I wish I could rent either one for a week to try out.

    Great comparison of the two models. I have just gone through the same process and opted for the Roadtrek Agile. I do a lot of off-grid camping and the Agile is a better boondocking rig for a number of reasons:-option of 4-wheel drive-option to go entirely with Lithium-ion batteries and eliminate propane completely (the Eco-Trek system). The Agile also has more solar panels.-option to mount the spare tire under the chassis eliminates the tire carrier blocking the back door (Ascent has no spare, and no 4-wheel drive)I also prefer the cleaner “stealth” look on the outside of the Agile; no driver-side propane vents or visible hook-up panels.Most of these items are upgrades. I agree with your analysis that the Ascent has the advantage at the base-model level, but where the Agile really shines is the ability to customize it with the upgrades. Of course this raises the price, but it is worth it for me.Thanks for the great video.

      Dale, have you taken delivery of your Agile? My local dealer said that getting an Agile with 4WD was going to be chancy at best.
      If you have, I’m curious how it handles the rough stuff. I appreciate the value of 4WD-I have a 4WD pickup and an AWD SUV, but neither is tall or top heavy like a van, especially with cabinetry above the windows. Your experience?
      When I decided on my Ascent, I gave up any thoughts of 4WD-an email from PleasureWay said that they couldn’t meet Transport Canada requirements with the additional height of the 4WD MB chassis. I assumed it was because the microwave and refrigerator are installed higher up than the Agile’s installations so that the CG is higher.

      Hi, Dale. You can't go wrong with either. The Agile is a great vehicle and it sounds like you did your homework. I know you'll enjoy it. Just being 19' long is going to open up a world of possibilities to you. Keep us informed on your travels!

    Great video. Nice comparison. At the end you talked about the flexibility of the shorter Sprinter over the longer. I'm really favoring the longer at this time but do want to use the unit as my second vehicle in retirement. I'm not as concerned about city driving and parking but still want to pull into a store / restaurant. 22' pushes the length of a standard parking space but there are still spaces that have curbs the unit can overhang. Anyway, your view on the pluses and minus of the short vs 22' extended?

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +6

      hi, Terry. Well, I owned a 2014 Roadtrek CS Adventurous on the long 170 inch wheelbase (clocking in at 23 feet). I could use the vehicle as a second car but not nearly as easily as I use the Ascent at 19 feet. I simply never have to think about the Ascent. I can take it anywhere and it fits in. With the CS I had to think about it. Even in grocery store parking lots I usually had to take two spaces (front and back) in order to avoid sticking out. It wasn't generally a problem but it did cause anxiety every time. Street parking was also a concern as most normal parking spaces are 20 feet in length so you'd need to take up two spaces and if they're paid then you're out of luck (or risk upsetting someone). Also, I had challenges parking my 23 foot van in front of my house and it would not fit in my driveway without blocking the sidewalk in my associate. My 19 foot van fits both in my driveway and in front of the house. My use case for the CS was not for camping. It was as a second vehicle. Had it been strictly for camping then I would have appreciated the extra 3 feet of space. Just more living area. So, carefully think about how you intend to use your van.

    Have been in both vehicles and done physical walkthroughs in both plants (RT in Kitchener and PW in Saskatoon), as well as Leisure Travel Van in Winkler. PW is by far the best quality of all three, LTV is second and RT is third. The workmanship as well as the fit and finish is higher in the PW. I also have rented the Luxor TS, it was a very nice unit although I did not like the Wet Bath (upside down Bidet), the fold down bed in the rear and the massive sliding door. If I had the money I would purchase the PW Plateau XLMB, that is the gear! The biggest drawback I see with both these units is that they are on MB chassis, you pay Big Bucks for the MB at the beginning but you really pay thru the nose for the life of the unit. I have chatted with too many owners and mechanics that just do not buy into the MB. Fuel economy is great but Cost Of Ownership is not! Good review

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +2

      Thanks for sharing your experiences. Not many of us have been lucky enough to go to the actual plants. The XLMB is a beautiful unit, no doubt. MB chassis is more expensive but their quality is top notch and for now they come with certain safety features which are not yet available on the other platforms. But agree COO is higher.

    What a timing as I've been comparing these two all week. Good job here but since you've had both brands I would have liked to hear your thoughts on the dumping systems. I think I would prefer the gravity dump with the P/W especially since it's under the toilet and I like the placement of the outside shower for possible cleanups. I'm still trying to find a size comparison for the bathrooms but I think it's close with the Agile maybe having a little more room to shower or sit w/o the sink. Also the bed is shorter in the P/W but probably not an issue for anyone under 6' and the seats look much more comfortable. Do you find them better to sleep on than the RT? Also, I assume you have had both the LP as well as gas generators...is the LP less troublesome? Thanks for the post and you do have a beautiful van!

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +5

      Hi, Stephen. Oh yes I forgot to mention the dumping system. Definitely prefer the gravity system on the Ascent. I found the macerator cumbersome, noisy and of no real benefit. I have not had the need to pump "uphill". Regarding the beds, the bed on the PW is a lot more comfortable than the bed on the Roadtrek. Could be the foam? Not sure but the PW bed is softer. Also, because the PW does not have any cabinets above the bedding area, I can sleep length-wise or width-wise. On my roadtrip I found myself preferring to sleep width-wise. I'm 5'10. Haven't had a gas generator. had the same onan propane generator on the Roadtrek and Pleasure-way and never had a problem with either. Thanks for the comment!

    I agree with and see some of your points..the Pleasureway does do a superior job with the electrics for sure...however as a Tahoe ski nut (8 major areas within 30 miles..this would also fit the Utah big 6 areas as well in that category and both are close to big cities(under an hour) and with some areas offering free hookups (yay), the 4x4 option places the SS Agile and even the Winny Revel upfront here...both become great moveable ski locker rooms (this also works with swimming/boating season too) and save you major expense from pricey ski area dining...and if you hit a bad weather change..you have the option of just sitting in and catching a movie while the others stay out there..now these are not true RV'ing events but it does justify the costs which keep getting pricier everyday

    Don't buy new RVs. Some guy who very recently bought one has now come down with medical issues and has to sell his. You may have to travel hundreds of miles to retrieve your van but the trip back in your new to you rig can be an adventure in itself. You will save $10s of thousands. In many states private vehicle sales are not sales taxed saving you even more. Just be a bit patient until you find what you are looking for. And yes you can buy a 2018 model.

    • @Ultramobility

      It is true, Bill that buying a used RV is one of the best routes to go. I'd only recommend that you have a specialist look at it to verify that all the components and the chassis are in working order. Good advice.

    I've looked at both also. The pleasure way Ascent has a much nicer floor plan, it's an open floor plan and you don't feel claustrophobic like you do in the Agile . When you walk into the Agile you have a big bulky clothes cabinet next to the sink which pretty much blocks off half of the rear of the coach. I also think the fit and finish is much nicer in the Ascent.

    • @Ultramobility

    Great comparison video! I recently purchased a 2018 PW Lexor. I seriously considered the PW Ascent and the RoadTrek Agile before buying the Lexor. I was very close to going with the Ascent, and your videos almost helped convince me. In the end, the Lexor was just a better fit for me. Thanks for all your great videos, keep them coming!

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +3

      Hi, Steve. You cannot go wrong with the Lexor. In the end for me it did come down to the Lexor and the Ascent as well. I was pretty much already sold on Pleasure Way as the coach builder and I really like the Lexor's bathroom and the fact that it was only a foot longer. That extra foot makes a difference in a positive way - not too long to make it unmanageable in the city but just that little extra space inside is noticeable. I also liked that the interior layout was basically the same as the Ascent and that the build quality was just as high. Finally the price difference was a huge factor. The Lexor is much more affordable. The negatives for me were the safety features and the mpg but candidly the Lexor made a real impression on me. Great choice you made!

    Neil, a very helpful video, thank you. Your point about first "defining your RV needs" is paramount. My wife and I are just retired and are looking to purchase a B-class van to be used for day-trips as well as 75/25 - hotel/campground road trips. We saw both these vans at the California Pomona RV show last October. I was really put off by Roadtrek's poor cabinetry work with rough cuts and vinyl veneers. The PleasureWay is much better built. I was told that Roadtrek uses lighter materials which allows them to offer the taller 4X4 optioned vans. Pros and cons to both manufactures. So getting back to your "needs" point, we are working through various travel scenarios to determine the best product for us.

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +1

      Hi, Wayne. Thank you so much for your comment. When I bought my first Class B RV I didn't do my homework and I ended up with a very nice 23 foot Roadtrek CS Adventurous. Problem was, the CS series is designed for camping and I didn't use my CS primarily as a camper. I used it as a weekender and a mobile office and the extra 3 feet didn't work for me. So, I sold it and started over. The second time I did a lot of research and really thought about how and what I wanted to use the RV for. This video is an effort to share that thinking with other potential buyers. Spending $100K plus on an RV is an investment and I want people to make the right decision for their needs. Regarding RT's cabinetry - I couldn't agree more. Their cabinets are a major turn off both in terms of aesthetic as well as build quality. I was always depressed when I walked into my CS. The cabinets looked old and gave me no end of problems staying shut. One of the first things I checked out on the Ascent was the cabinetry - which I fell in love with.

    Nice comparison with great detail! I'm actually leaning toward Roadtrek because I'm going to be full timing in it so I need the largest capacities I can get and I also want an all electric setup (no propane or generator) and PW doesn't offer anything like that. Also, I will never own an RV with an absorption fridge, they are just too finicky with leveling, plus I just don't want to deal with propane at all. I agree that every RV should have a compressor fridge at this point. Roadtrek does offer excellent, high capacity all electric energy systems, which are expensive, but will be a must for me as an off the grid full timer. I do think PW's build quality is markedly better than RT though, so that's a trade off. If I buy off the lot, I'll probably go with a RT CS Adventurous for the extra space, but I've actually been considering buying an empty Sprinter cargo van and building my own. That's really the only way to get exactly what you want!

    Thank you so much for this awesome review on both RVs. Yes they are both incredibly expensive but when compared side by side, it’s a serious no brainer which one is better value for your hard earned dollar. I went to the big RV show in LA recently and looked at all the Class Bs on offer. Pleasureway is the clear leader in style and specs. The bathrooms on the Road Treks are so claustrophobic and a major deal breaker.

    Your videos are super helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to make them. I am debating between these two vehicles to live in full time. I would be doing a lot of boondocking and adventuring. I have a dog and so need the A.C. to work when I am at work. Which vehicle would you choose if you were to live in the camper full time for 2 years?

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +1

      Hi, Morgan. Oh my goodness. Such a difficult question without knowing more about you. For instance: how important is space to you? Do you need/want to stealth camp? How about winter weather will you be in that? Do you mind making up the bed each day or would you prefer a more permanent layout? Where will you be parking your van during the day while at work? What's your price range and do you need a wet bath or a dry bath?

    • @morganjaffray4744
      @morganjaffray4744 6 років тому +2

      Just debating between the ascent and the agile. I feel like my biggest concern is my dog. So that's why I'm leaning more towards the Agile so the A.C. can run while boondocking while I'm at work. When I'm at work I'll park the van in my hospital parking lot. I would prefer to constantly stealth camp because camp sites with hookups get expensive. As far as winter camping nothing below 30F. Price range: $130k. Don't mind making the best. Really want to keep van under 20feet.

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +1

      Yep, sounds like the agile is the right choice for you if you need the AC to be running most of the day. The Ascent does it too automatically but it runs the generator which is noisier.

    I need to see out the passenger side windows with bed in back. So all the other stuff is just a plus.
    Pricewise I'm guessing that with Roadtrek add ons the pricing is not much different. At least the Pleasure Way pricing is up front and you know you've got everything you need.
    What you don't have, like extra water for boondocking, can be carried onboard. Some things are non negotiable and some things can be compensated for without too much adjustment and inconvenience. Boondockers are generally adaptable, creative, and self-sufficient.
    I do have one question. You mentioned the Pleasure Way is on a Sprinter chassis. Is it gas or diesel?

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +1

      hi Diana. all sprinter vans as of now are diesel. Mercedes just launched a gas version of the sprinter for 2019 but don't expect it to hit coach builders until likely 2020 model year.

    Hello, how does an Pleasure Way Accent keep a bicycles interior since the seats are not in two rows. Can the seat arrangement be customed made?

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому

      Hi, Terence. Unfortunately the bench seat is standard and fixed and is not customizable on the Ascent. One option to consider is a bike rake on the back. There are standard bike racks for the Mercedes Sprinter. Failing that, Winnebago makes a Travato configuration on the Promaster platform and the new Revel on the Sprinter platform which both have pass-through seating allowing bikes and equipment to be loaded into them. You could carry one bike on the inside of the Ascent but you would have to protect the wood on the cabinets and doors from pedal dings.

    We left our VW Eurovan experience recently and began doing our research on grown-up Class B's (not to disparage our ol' campervan in any way). Of course, by the time we got through quite a number of campers (Hymers, Roadtreks, Sprinters, Travatos, Eras, Revels, and Boldts), the Class B that we like the most so far...the Ascent...for the same reasons that drew you to it: openness, quality, windows as far around as possible, etc. looks to be about the most expensive one we've found so far. Figures! Given how not-as-expensive our Eurovan was, it'll be quite a mental jump to spend 4-6 times what we just sold our '97 T4 for...might be too big a jump and I'll get overwhelmed with choice so that I end up just giving up. We'll see.

    Someone mentioned earlier that 4x4 drive is available on the Roadtrek giving it more road clearance. I know that isn't an option with PW but do you know if the unit can be raised higher for more off highway use? Thanks.

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому

      Hi, ClydetheGuide. I'm not sure. Candidly, I'm not sure how viable the 4x4 is. These units are tall and their center of gravity is up pretty high. You won't be taking any 4x4 sprinter truly off road. I suppose however the 4x4 option could be useful for things like going on the beach etc. I had a Roadtrek CS Adventurous (non 4x4) but got it stuck once trying to back down a slight dirt path. It was not a pleasant experience trying to get it out while feeling like the unit was about to slide down. That could be a time when the 4x4 would be useful.

      The 4WD option on the Agile raises the chassis 4 inches higher than the standard version. Enough to give a little more ground clearance, but not be too top-heavy. I don't plan to take my Agile completely off-road, but the 4WD will be useful for those small back roads where a larger rig might struggle.

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому

      On the SS Agile it is 1500 lbs. For others: OCCC (Occupants plus Cargo Carrying Capacity) is the allowance for weight of occupants, water, propane and cargo. Reduce by weight of optional equipment. I think it's about the same on the Ascent but I've reached out to them for details.

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +1

      Hi, Wendy. Just got word back from the fine folks at Pleasure-way. Here is what they said: 2018 Ascent has 1,218 LBS OCCC plus or minus 50LBS depending on options. For SS Agile per Roadtrek's site it is 1500 lbs but keep in mind that this is for their base model which does not include a generator, solar. lithium batteries, TV or side screen door package. Those options are standard on the Ascent but optional on the Agile and their weight would need to be subtracted from Roadtrek's OCCC.

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому

      I think they both drive about the same. the ascent does some things outside the chassis that make it more enjoyable for me: the ottomans are properly secured down so that they don't fly about the coach. Some with the ottoman back cushions. The TV in the Ascent positively locks for travel while the Agile doesn't - it tends to jiggle loose and fly around on the arm when you're driving. These little things add up. I don't like having to pull over to resecure the TV or pick up a bunch of cushions when I pull into my camp site.

    Neil. Thanks for the video. Is the width of both vehicles the same? The Agile lists theirs at 80 inches but the Ascent specs say around a foot and a half wider. Is that because the Ascent is including the side mirrors?
    Also although I prefer the Ascent the availability of units at local dealers around Seattle is extremely limited. No doubt this will negatively impact bargaining power. Thoughts?

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому

      hi Jon. with the exception of the lower permanent steps on the ascent, the widths are the same. both are going to be harder and harder to find in the upcoming months because Mercedes is opening the new South Carolina plant and production of the short sprinter is moving there. they haven't opened it yet but I hear that orders are being cut across the board. it will likely affect prices on dealers lots as availability is limited.

  • @Calcrusader

    I had been looking at leisure travel vans the past few years. This year I got serious and it looks as though they no longer offer the short Sprinter which I had wanted. I found the Ascent online recently and had never heard of the company. After watching your comparison video, I agree with your points about each van. It seems the Ascent is well thought out. Checked the local dealers, they have Pleasure Way but don’t seem to have the Ascent. I can’t wait to check it out. We will be traveling across the country to visit relatives, but nobody has extra room for guests. The hotels are in a resort area and charge about $350/ night so I figured we can park in a driveway cheaper and have a nice second vehicle as well. Appreciate your video!

    Great comparison! Just wondering why you feel the 3-way fridge is less superior to a compressor based fridge. Personally I am interested in comparing the Roadtrek Zion to the PleasureWay Lexor as I feel the Ram Promaster is better value.

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому

      Hi, Derek. Great question. The compressor refrigerator is just less hassle. Compressor refrigerators are very efficient. The rationale given for the 3-way is that you have more sources of power available to power the refrigerator but candidly I don't think this is necessary. We've had compressor refrigerators powering our homes for decades 24 hours a day so there are no issues with them running continually. Add to that compressor refrigerators are efficient enough to be able to run off battery power provided you have solar. In the days when RVS did not come with solar than 3-way refrigerators were the only way to go since there was no alternate way to power them but that's just not the case today. Regarding the Zion and the Lexor let me say this: I looked at both. Seriously looked at both. At the end of the day I ruled out the Zion because it's build quality was so poor compared to the Lexor. I will probably anger many RT enthusiasts for saying that but it is true. The Adventurous line for RT is their top of the line and build quality is lacking with the Adventurous line. The Zion line is RT's entry level line and well quality is less than the Adventurous line. Look closely at fit and finish between the units. The Lexor is build in a stall and takes weeks to complete. The Zion is built on an assembly line and takes days. I could go into more detail but probably not in this comment ;-)

    Thank you! We are a 2 human, 2 dog family who are trying to decide between these two or possibly the Lexor. Two questions I haven't seen addressed yet are whether there is an issue finding mechanics willing to work on the Sprinter in more rural areas (in case of an emergency) and access to diesel once you're off the highway system. In the Bay Area, both are fairly common, but I'm worried about elsewhere in the more remote western US. Also, my better half is 6'3". I've seen your video where you indicate that the bed on the passenger side of the Ascent is a bit longer. If he is willing to lay slightly diagonal or have his feet hang out occasionally, is the Ascent a viable alternative? The Agile states their bed is actually longer, but I'm not sure how they measure. Our nearest dealers are multiple hours away, so I'm hoping to do as much research as possible before I head out. Thanks again!

    as a potential first time Class B purchaser, your analysis was nothing short of amazing. Not only did you take the time to exhaustibly compare every aspect of the two units, you added personal experience to the mix. We have motorhomed years ago when the children were younger in a Class A Challenger, then we sold and purchased a cottage which we have had for over 15 years, but, now as we approach retirement, we are beginning to long for less maintenance, ongoing costs (like taxes) and wider experiences for just the selfishness of it all. So the debate goes on because I know my children and grandchildren will literally "freak out" with the thought of being without our family cottage. But that's another matter. I really need to think about whether I am brave enough to "boondock" or will stick to national parks, etc. As a Canadian the concept of tolls are negligible, the cost of gas higher but the thrill of the change and mobility, more desirable. The Roadtrek even though I hate the wardrobe concept may be for us because we will tour and camp more than you do. Using it as a second vehicle is not a need since we both have newer vehicles. I do want to tow a vespa motorcycle, kayaks, maybe a small boat. You don't talk much about towing beyond the capabilities of the vehicles Talk about that if you would. There is probably where the Continental Tire is a burden. We are not tech savy so the old school rockets are ok with me But I thought the Agile had Lithium Batteries, my notes taken during the talk seems to be of that opinion. This is a deal breaker for me. I need to check that. You also said your Ascent has very little storage which I definitely need some of. Could you comment on that as well. Are you sure that one lacks a sink that is a deal breaker believe it or not for me too. Keep up the good work.

      hi there Margaret. you should stick with the sprinter chassis if tow capacity is important it is much higher than the promaster. you can get the agile with lithium as an upgrade to eco-trek. they have a 400amp hour option but I'm not sure of the cost. maybe $5k? I'm pretty certain there is no longer a sink in the agile. they used to have a pull down one but no longer. storage is a challenge on both the ascent and agile - that 's the disadvantage of being a shorter camper van. thanks for watching!

    hello, nice video.
    i have owned 2 roadtreks prior (170 popular and 190 versatile) and was very interested in the pleasure way ascent.
    i like the interior layout, roomier bathroom, open space feeling and over all fit and finish is much more superior to roadtrek.
    however my uses and preference would be to have 4x4 capability. ( i have spoken to PW numerous times and they currently do NOT have plans on offering it)
    what also intrigues me is the volt start system "eco pro" solar etc. on the RT. i assume with that you would not need a generator.
    So here is my question.
    Should i get the Ascent and install an after market 4x4 system i.e. quigley. and settle for the AGM/generator system.
    or
    Should i get the Roadtrek 4x4 with Eco - knowing i would eliminate the wardrobe cabinet over the seat. (i did this before with my 170)
    your input would be greatly appreciated
    markus

      i would like to add, that i also like the electric stove and fold away sink as well as the front table set up in the roadtrek. i just don't like the closed in feeling and the quality of build.

      Richard, how long would you prefer them to be?

      with respect, may I suggest that you rephrase to say that they are too long for you - and not presume for everyone. perhaps you aren't looking for the detail that he took the trouble to present, so you have the option to not watch it. It is better to refrain from criticizing such good, free information ( or as they used to say, don't look a gift horse in the mouth! )
