Wow, 5-years of invaluable experience ! I have 0-years, but am hoping to change that, and soon. For now, still gathering a ton of information. The van of your dreams sounds a bit like the a van do it Liv, but maybe not so industrial + need the bath etc
Deb, it's always a joy to have a conversation with you. Yes, you shared honest reviews, instead of those influencers who seem to be high all the time about how great van life is. So, thank you, gorgeous! You are living my dream, girl. 👍👍👍
Custom build. We used our sailboat experience to visit a custom van builder for our full time home. While we drive we don’t talk about the perfect van as we have it for us. So we have to find other things to chat about…and audio books!
Amazing and so welcoming ! Thanks so much. Have you spoken to Logan at VanCraft in San Diego? They have the 12 volt nomad ac and lot of other thoughtful design details and “ingredients”. Thanks again!
Your filmmaking is becoming impressive. Loved all the quick cuts on each sentence at the beginning. Much better than a one shot monologue. The content was great too! Thanks.
After this current "Phase 7" Upgrades and improvements to my 2008 Ascent I am thru, lol. Anymore and I should have bought a new one...if I had that sort of cash back then. I don't have enough "time left" to continue upgrading it. So, I have reached that point where I have my rig where I wanted it to be and will get the most use from it for my solo RV lifestyle on the road with my 2 "girls" Arf! Arf!
Thanks for voicing your dream van ideas. After traveling for three weeks in my imperfectly manufactured van, I would not want to change it because it fullfills all MY needs. But dreams keep us going.
Great info! How funny! We just met with Jim at Beach Cities last weekend. We are looking for an Ascent. Such a great guy. He had us when he said he slows down to 60 if someone needs to use the bathroom! 😂 We found one we really liked from them, but as its our first, we decided to go with an older one first, and then upgrade later after we experience what we need. Your videos have been so amazingly helpful! Many thanks!
Deb and John, You guys are sooo amazing. I can't wait until you start your build out van. I'll take a front row ticket for that adventure. Until then, keep your travels coming!!!😃
You bet I’ll come along. Love your adventures. I travel in a T@B but still find recipes, travel routes, places to see and stay from your videos. BTW I based in Ohio but my heart is in the west.
Oh boy! This is going to be fun ! Undercarriage and black water are some of my biggest issues as well with my Thor Tellaro. I’m interested in Murphy Beds.
It's a long way from you, but look at Embassy RV in Indiana for some of the things you'd change in your next van. No generator or propane, no black tank, the clean and grey water are inside, and insulated for true 4 season use. Plus you can get it on the Transit AWD chassis which would make a huge difference for your 6' 5" husband. In the Transit they eliminate the overhead AC and mount the condenser underneath so he wouldn't bump his head. The big sticking point for a guy that tall is a long enough bed. The beds in all the Embassy RV layouts are only 72" long. Their bathroom is actually large enough for your husband to use comfortably. They use dual compressor 12V compressor & freezer. Their preferred toilet is a Laveo but they'll install a composting toilet if you want. I toured their shop last Fall and came away very impressed with their materials and eye towards quality. We put a deposit down and hope to have it by this Fall.
@@FromShetoMe They do allow some level of customization and at least one customer had them modify the rear garage area to hold bikes. Right now the rear storage is about 18" deep. Of course, to get everything you want you'll probably need to go with a full custom upfitter. This is the first class B for my wife and I so we don't know enough yet to justify full custom. We'll save that for a few years down the road when we have a better understanding of what works for us.
Totally agree about considering an Embassy! Every time you mentioned something that you would like to change, my husband and I were yelling “Embassy!” at the TV! Before you spend way more to go custom, you may want to consider it. Also, love your videos - especially all the hiking recommendations.
Another wonderful video. I hope you keep making your videos for years to come. They are always interesting, educational and loads of fun to watch. I hope you are aware of the wonderful job you do making your videos. Your photography is absolutely beautiful, your comments are both interesting and educational. And every once in awhile you throw in a little humor which I am sure makes all of us watching, smile.
Thanks Don. I'm just amazed and honored that you have kept watching all these years. I'll keep producing until that passion is gone. But so far, so good.
I would keep all the entertainment stuff - - it couldn't weigh more than 12 lbs altogether. I'd also keep the black tank and real toilet. It's more civilized than any bowl-in-a-box type of bathroom alternative. I do agree about the bed size, though. If you can't sleep in anything smaller than a king size bed, stay home. My dream van would have twin beds with storage underneath. Great video. Had to subscribe.
We own a Lexor FL and just love it. You were a great inspiration for us to go look and buy our PW Lexor FL ! Great video !! Thanks for the infos. 👍 from the great white north !
Excellent presentation. A fixed and raised bed, with storage underneath, is at the top of my list of changes I would make in our Beyond. I believe the RV industry overall is slow to acknowledge and respond to its users. Listening to a professional like yourself would improve their product and probably increase their sales and profit.
I struggle with the fixed bed idea. We're in an older Pleasureway with twin sofas that convert to a bed. The couples we travel with are in 20 ft travel trailers and turns out it's more comfortable to entertain in our van than it is in their trailer. If the weather is nice then we're outside, but as soon as it's rainy, misty or too hot and need ac then we're in our van. For now the bikes fit right down the middle for travel and we use our old bike rack to store at night or when we're in one place. I do love the idea of a garage though and making the bikes easier to travel with, it's just eliminating the ability to seat 5-6 people comfortably that's the challenge.
Wow, bikes down the middle. That would drive John nuts but good points for those who like to entertain in their vehicle. I think we have only done that twice in 5 years.
FSTM, Hello, DEBBIE& JOHN, This is a FANTASTIC video, I am NOT sure when I started, but ALWAYS look forward ,to your adventures. , personally, if I were on the road,I’d like a permanent bed, also NO ABSORDTION 3 WAY REFRIGERATORS, SURPRISE,SURPRISE, I HAD NO IDEA that there was a GENERATOR, on your van. ! like you said you made so many improvements to your van, stay well, safe travels, 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks for your 5 year review. After decades of motorhomes, seven to be exact, including the current PW, I have ordered a GMC Savana Passenger van. I am going to outfit it with all portable systems that I can remove and fix/replace easily without having to tear it out of the coach. I will email you my equipment list and only going to have a raised bed, garage, and a kitchen cabinet with solar lights. You remember my 45’er, down to 21’, to Van. May raise the roof with a Sportsmobile topper and decide if I really need a Quigley 4x4. Will probably sell the PW after Alaska this summer.
We own a 170” wheelbase Sprinter van, outfitted by Sportsmobile. Our upper cabinets house all of our clothing. The ride is not noisy in our van. Perhaps, you want/need a Sportsmobile. The Fresno location is now Field Vans. I think you could get your dreams fulfilled by their knowledgeable staff. (ours is 3&1/2 years old w/60k miles (now on 4th cross country drive)….can’t beat the 5yr warranty!) I would also recommend a kitchen faucet w/pull out sprayer (just like @home). Looking forward to seeing your dream van become a reality!
Debbie, intrigued about your decision to perhaps forego a black tank. Understand the need for a four season and moving tanks inside (which allows for spare tire underneath). But curious as to your decision and perhaps one that you may want to discuss down the road in a future video.
So many reasons. It is generally the reason we have to stop and dump. The sensors never work (yes, we could install new exterior sensors). Save space. Less smell. Will not be going with a cassette toilet though.
This was an exceptional video-your skills on filming really shine in this video, your presentation, and attention to detail is very informative. Looking forward to your future Class B and in the meantime your next travel adventure. Thanks for sharing.
We'll be watching your progress on the dream build! Hey we just hiked Santa Elana Trail in Big Bend National Park 2 days ago... Inspired by you. It was great! Following your footsteps!
It’s been fun watching both of you, the adventures, especially seeing your knowledge accumulate and sharing all you know. You should write a book, I’d buy it even though I haven’t got any closer to my own van, but the dream still lives! In the mean time I live vicariously through all the UA-cam travelers and adventurers! Safe travels and thanks!
Very interesting video. I’m happy that you are pleased with the quality of Pleasure Way after five years. I’m not much on off road capability as I have a bad back and can’t walk very far. I think a PW FL might suit me fine.
I have learned SO much from you and truly appreciate having your videos to watch and refer to. We get our PleasureWay Tofino in TWO WEEKS! I can't wait to get going. Thanks again for your videos.
We are currently approaching building with Field Vans (formerly Sportsmobile West) out of Fresno. I’ve always admired Pleasureway’s builds but just wanted something more robust, custom and a company that is been in the business of building vans for decades. Thank you for your dream van inputs. It will certainly help me choose some of the right components for us. And I look forward to your seeing what you decide for your build!
So far my dream van floor plan is the Coach House Arriva. Not much external storage but it works for leveling blocks and extra hoses. Much longer than yours but I love the separate shower and larger fridge. The dining configuration is not the best but it does work well for workspace gives us two living areas. I used to own an older PW Lexor TD and loved it but the wet bath turned me off. Never used it. All Rvs compromise somewhere
I spent a year designing our van (watching countless UA-cam videos!) which we built last year. I’m totally sold on a fixed bed with the “garage” below because we can carry our folding ebikes and inflatable tandem kayak inside. Your challenge will be John’s height, so yeah, you’ll probably need a Transit. I loved the designing phase and recommend using Sketchup which, if I can figure it out, anyone can. I discovered your videos during my year of research and look forward to each one. I’ve learned a lot from you and even copied a few of your modifications. Thank you.
Look forward to seeing what you dream up on a build! And well, when you're ready to part and list this one, reach out to me. This is the kind we've been looking forward. And you can imagine how that's been going lol...
I learned so much from your video - thank you! My husband and I haven't started van life yet but watching this has really helped me figure out what we want - and don't want - in our van :-) I will be following you on your adventures.
Personally , I do like having a Microwave/convection oven (for fast heating) and sometimes I do want to watch local TV news if it's available over the air. It tends to give me more of a sense of my surrounding area. Local TV ads, local news about a killer on the loose, and sometimes emergency alerts for chemical spills, or local forest fires...all without the need for an internet connection if you are close enough to receive their transmission.
That makes sense. We just never seem to camp where there is any reception and then it takes so long for the antennae to find any signals. But to each his own.
I Iove your videos. I've been following you all along the way. Really appreciate one of the reasons you make you tube videos--to share your RV experiences and to educate and inform your followers. Thought I should bring an important message to you which AdventureVanMan recently posted. Check out his latest video. Since you sometimes dry camp I thought you might benefit from Brian's routine when he dry camps. He drags a magnet around the ground to remove nails before one of them finds its way into his tires. I also travel. with a magnet with a handle to rid our fire ring of nails. We burn lots of pallet wood which has nails and would be a hazard if someone started to dig in our fire pit. I never thought it would be a good idea to drag the area around the RV in a boondocking situation. Do we see a trip to Humble Road in your future? Safe travels. Sue
The reason I stumbled onto your channel is because I am researching Class B vans, figuring out if I want to take the plunge. I stayed because I really like your videos, great stuff. So many valid points and they all pretty much fall inline with what I am looking for in a van. I have put the Van idea on hold for now, will stick with my truck and trailer until things return to some kind of normal. Prices for units and the demand will have to drop before I will be able to afford to purchase.
Excellent summary of your likes and dislikes. Thanks for sharing. To your question for the exhaust, it likely on the the side opposite the gas fill spout. Is that the case? My recollection is that is the regulation. But then my recollection is older than 8 track tapes. Stay safe
Loved your video. We are excited to follow along if you decide to build out a perfect van. We would love to do that some day as well and discuss it often while on the road.
When you were talking about your side bed storage, I wanted to share what we found. We found these acrylic shelves where the back slips under the metal frame of the window. We can put our drinks and cell phone on them. Because the lip is so tight, it holds them very securely.
So excited for your custom van build!!! I got mine last year (masteroverland did my 4x4 build) -- took me almost three years to get the van and then get the build done. I did my layout based on the ascent. My fave parts of my build are my battery bank, the 49-gallon diesel tank and my u-shaped dinette with wide back bench. Ping me if you have questions about the process (tho I'm sure you have talked to a zillion people already).
I meant to post to you that I was just in Texas and saw that Wilco Offroad has their distribution center in Burnet (where my mom is). so weird. anyway, I stopped in and they actually made a great mod to my wilco swing hitch so that I can now open my backdoors without swinging the hitch out (when I don't have my bike rack attached, that is). I told them they need to make a "sprinter version." but the mod works!!!!
We tried find or build a dream vehicle for the same reasons a few years back but becase of time restrictions in building decided to go with an Earthroamer .
Good review, we find vans are very individual choice , what fits one couple doesn’t for the other . One item I always have are long range fuel tanks . Like your videos.🚙
When we first were having the Agile suspension done, a lady was adding an extra tank to her van. I thought it was silly. But now I want one. The things we learn along the road...
Such a great video. I’m excited to see your new build! How awesome that you know exactly what will work for you. It is going to be amazing when you get it and it will be perfect for you. I was thinking as you were talking that George could do a perfect Transit for your needs. I’m anxious to see what you do! Have a great week! Love from SC, Jane❤️🙏🏻
Great video, I so love watching what you have done with this van and what you would like to do. I am still trying to find my campervan but I've narrowed it down to a few and of course none are perfect but like you have done I can tweak, add or replace items. It's hard to find something tailored to work for just one person unless you build or have it built. Hopefully my search will come to an end soon. Keep those thoughts, tips and tricks coming our way. Happy Camping!
@@FromShetoMe We went to the Adventure Van Expo in Dillon Co (very small) and the Overland Expo in Loveland Co (very hot) last summer. We abandoned the idea of getting a Winnebago Ekko after seeing it and decided on a custom build. Now for the Overland Expo in Flagstaff in May …. the biggest of the the expos I believe. Hopefully we come away with a firm plan! Good luck with your build.
The ceiling bulbs should come off like that: attach a suction cup to cold bulb and twist from the suction cup. Loved everything about the video -- You, composition, angles etc. :)
Thanks for sharing your your review of the van 👍 I wish we would have bought a Pleasure Way but we have the Hymer Aktiv 1.0. I will say I know have to repair about everything on now haha 😂 Safe Travels.
Built out our own Transit and it’s 6’6” inside. We have the benches -> bed in the back with side storage like you described. We also have upper cabinets and they make no noise since we built out of 80/20. We have no propane, inside tanks, AWD, no awning (just Moonshade).
@@FromShetoMe I really don’t like any of the builders on UA-cam except maybe George. I would really encourage you to build it yourself. I even saw one “professional” builder end up with a client’s van over the GVWR. Wife and I are both 55 and the channel Gaye N Robert are a bit older than us and they built 2 vans. We’re in Cheyenne which isn’t too far off your route 6 plan I think.
@@billnalen I agree with your first statement. ;-) But we've been married almost 47 years and I think a van build would end that. I'll check out Gaye N Robert's channel. I'm constantly checking for ideas/tips, etc.
@@FromShetoMe I'm sorry, I don't know why I jumped to the age thing, you two have done a lot of hands on upgrades so I'm sure you could tackle it fine. I'm blaming tiredness and posting without thinking.
Nice video, can you live full time in an ascent ts? I’m looking at the 2024 ascent ts versus the storyteller classic mode, what do you think? I’m mostly stealth camping around cities and suburbs by myself and one dog.
Unfortunately neither of those are stealth rigs. The Storyteller is probably a better option for full time. More storage and fixed bed. Try to rent one for a month or more and get a feel for it. Keep researching.
Oh wow! I figured this decision was coming! Many props to your husband for being okay with banging his poor head for 5 years. That’s love for sure. ✌️👋 Ps don’t forget to bring a Manometer on your long summer trip!
Nice summary of the good and the bad. I'd like to thank you for the years of great advice you've provided. I bought a camper van at the end of 2019 and the tips you provided helped me set it up such that I've used almost everything you recommended. I also appreciate your letting us know when some of your seemingly great ideas haven't really worked out as planned. I've followed your trips and I'm always impressed with how you find stops to enjoy that I have driven by for years. Now the question. I recall you once included some information on leveling blocks made from stall mats. I can't find the video, so I'm hoping you can tell me which video and if the idea has actually worked for you. Thanks for the years of weekly videos. Please keep them coming.
Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/hbFkW1TFEC8/v-deo.html We do like them. They are heavy but anything out of plastic cracks. We also use rocks where available.
This review video was so well done and thorough👍👍 We still love our 2015 PW Ascent even though we don’t have all the upgraded solar, lithium, suspension items that are now standard or common mods. Not sure why we continue to haul around gen, tv, DVD, awning, microwave (tortilla chips / snack cupboard😂). Excited to hear your dream van is in your future!
Excited for the new Build! Great points to consider. I had a 2020 Tiffin Wayfarer built and I absolutely love it! I’ve been considering selling it, but I don’t know if I really could. It only has approximately 6,000 miles. But I did just yesterday purchase a tiny home that will be built in a few months! It will have a cottage style theme…I’m beyond’s excited! Have you or John ever been interested in tiny homes? (John probably isn’t) 🤣… I always look forward for your updates and I appreciate all your knowledge and tips tricks and hacks. Thank you both🙏🏻♥️
@@FromShetoMe Thank you for your reply! I absolutely love your lifestyle! You both are adorable and very smart! I was thinking you guys lived in CA. Where the ADU’S are now accepted. I know BOXABL are catering to CA. For that reason. I almost went with that company! I absolutely think they have NAILED IT! With the (No Wood) materials and figuring out the shipping/ trucking an 8 x 20 (no permits needed for that size) . I went with Incredible Tiny Homes. I chose the Austin Model W/Dormers package #11. This all happen yesterday and I’m now realizing that I’m going to be an tiny home owner! Now I need to figure out where to shop for a tiny home furniture and appliances and decor! Do you have any ideas? You are so creative! Thank you for sharing all your adventures with us.🙏🏻♥️
Great video. We’re approaching the one-year anniversary of having our Coachmen Beyond B van. Just returning home to Illinois after spending four months in it in Arizona. Agree with many of your points. There were so many 40mph windy days in the desert that we never deployed our awning. Also would rather have a larger gray tank and a composting toilet. Keep up the great videos! 😃👍
Looking forward to hearing about your next custom dream Van. I'm sure you have also heard about ARV (Advanced RV) in Willoughby, Ohio. The owner Mike Neundorfer is also a very tall man, and probably understands very well the issues your husband runs into (no pun intended) with being in a Van. If you are looking to build a "forever - dream" Van, they would also be worth checking out as well, because that is their main focus and they have over 200 years of combined knowledge. Yes, it wouldn't be inexpensive, but just thought I would mention in case you had not heard of them. I wish you both good luck on your exciting new journey in building your dream Van, and I look forward to seeing what that might look like.
This was so great. Didn’t realize I wanted to know how you like/dislike your Pleasure Way, but it was very interesting. I would love to see you two create your perfect van. I really like the Seperette toilet idea. I’m going to give my new rig time to see if I can deal with a cassette toilet. But I think I have a Separette in my future.
@@FromShetoMe I watch videos of people saying it’s fine, it’s easy, you can carry an extra one for longer boondocking. And I think, this doesn’t strike me as anything I could get used to. Or be willing to. 😵💫 I also want to explore an incinolet. BTW, I predict Humble Road is in your future.
I am very happy with our Pleasureway but I agree a fixed bed and then huge garage would be great. We have the Ford Transit version which is longer so I am now having to account for the bike rack when parking. But could be worse! At least I don’t have to park a class A 😂.
I have a 2020 Ontour, which is the same house as yours, on a Ford chassis. My generator exhaust, if I ever used it, is on the driver rear, so they learned their lesson on that. I find that I can open the side door just enough to get my arm in to check the water level on the panel at the end of the sink cabinet when filling the water tank. I have one of those ginormous sinks, but it has square instead of rounded corners and is almost impossible to keep the corners clean. I also use my microwave for storage, but I put the dome I bought, to cover food when cooking, upside down and use it for food I don’t want refrigerated (bananas, tomatoes). Then, rarely, I can use the microwave to heat a cup of tea in a hurry. I agree that this van is perfect for one or even two outdoor people. I bought a GoCycle which folds up and fits inside even my 20’ van when traveling. I move it from front to back of the van depending on what I’m doing at the time.
I agree with some of your desired changes. Bike/toy storage inside would be really nice, the option to camp in colder weather, very important to a lot of people. A spare tire, we just ordered a carrier for our van. We might look into tank warmers down the road. When we were looking at class B’s PW was the only choice because of the quality and warranty. I would love to build a custom van on a gas vehicle. Advanced RV in Ohio builds beautiful custom vans, but they only build on the Sprinter chassis. The other issues besides the cost is it takes a long time to get a custom build, I don’t want to wait a year. I follow New Jersey Outdoor Adventures on you tube, he is constantly featuring custom builds by private builders, check out his channel. It’s too bad PW doesn’t allow some options when you order; like choice of AC, no generator, no awning, no tv. We never use the awning either, the wind is always too much to use it. Good luck with your build, can’t wait to see what you guys get.
Just a thought, but I think a collaboration with Trent & Allie for a van build would be a monumental event. T&A, for those that don't know, are van lifers/UA-camrs that just started a van building company. They are based in Salt Lake, and already do many of the things you mentioned. Then to add some of the innovative items that you researched, I think this could be a real winner. Just a thought.
Great video as always. Can you tell me where you found those nice fold-down shelves you have in the back above the sofa please? I seem to remember seeing them on one of your videos but can't find it now. They would work perfectly on our PW Lexor. Thank you.
I have a link in my Amazon Storefront but here is a direct link: www.amazon.com/dp/B07D8JYV73/?ref=idea_lv_dp_ov_d They are in stock right now but are sometimes sold out. They come in black and white. They are held on with double sided tape which works well on our laminate cabinets but I don't know how well it would stick on wood. This is my Amazon Storefront: www.amazon.com/shop/fromshetome
I found somebody in Huntington Beach who installed some lithionics and other electronic upgrades but more importantly they replaced my AC with the 12v system you mentioned. In your backyard so I thought you might be interested. Let me know if you want there name
That was a great video. I'm converting a Ford Transit HR Ext and it sounds like I'm building your dream van as far as the mechanics are concerned. Quadvan and 4 season are at the top of my want list but I don't think you'd like my layout. No permanent bed.
Really liked hearing your thoughts on your total van. I just got turned on to a gal that is doing some incredible van builds- check out Jonnies journey….. if you decide to build your dream van I think she’d be someone you’d want to talk with- she has great ideas and has a bed system that sounds like it’s exactly what you want! Thank You, I appreciate your time in sharing this with us. Safe travels 🌞
Debbie: based on your video I looked into the ninja oven. Not sure if it will fit in the microwave space, but the reviews say it gets hot… so I’m not sure it will work. We have a PW plateau FL, and I too wish that the microwave was at least a convection oven. I’m told it can’t be swapped out because of the heat it generates. Ughh.
Are you going with a Transit for your custom build? We have a Coachmen Beyond 22RB on the Transit AWD which has two fixed beds. We added 8” risers to hey storage under the beds and can fit a lot of stuff. If we went up a few more inches we would be able to fit our folding bikes. I’m wondering in the opposite direction, if we should have bought a Sprinter based van instead.
Thank you for showing us the changes you would make! I assume your RV is diesel. Would you find it easier to have a gas RV? I look forward to your videos and appreciate you including us in your travels!
My favorite van is the one I don’t own, it’s the one that I’ve just seen and it looks better than what I’ve got. Not a fan of our Travato G. There is always a greener pasture out there. Currently that would be the Solis Pocket. If you want to get stripped down, albeit without the 4WD/AWD or toilet space, The Pocket is perfect (if John can fit in the crossways bed). No gen, no TV, no stereo/DVD player, no awning, no microwave. It’s nearly a blank slate and that’s what I like about it. The TV is a waste of $ and space. We’ve never used it and unless there were some sort of an emergency like a nuclear disaster or something along the lines of 9/11, I doubt we would ever want to turn on the TV for anything. We’re camping! We take Kindles aong for reading and the iPad. That’s it. I thought it would be great to have a generator, but we hate it, waste of gas every month to keep it exercised, and fumes back up inside - haven’t seen where it’s vented, but I presume it is on the same side as yours. I have used the awning a couple of times, but once we deployed it in NV because it was hot - and then a wind gust came up. It was flapping and half of it started retracting but the other half did not! I grabbed the flapping end and screamed for Jerry. He’s 6‘2“ and saved the day. I’m 5‘4“ and could barely reach it to keep it from blowing away. I think the Moon shade is a much better idea. I would put a little microwave in - we really use the nuker. - and some type of air fryer device - and I would get a big fat Bluetti 3000 lithium power-brick in lieu of generator or plugin access. You can actually run your roof AC off of it for a while - indeed power your entire van. If you haven’t looked into the Pocket - although I understand why you want four-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive for Tahoe access - there’s a great video: Chad and Paul interviewed Nick Riebe, who just changed from a Travato K to a Solis Pocket and he full-times in it. And he drives up to places like Tuk on the Arctic Ocean! He’s very happy with his Pocket and he’s in the process of kitting it out with add-on storage accessories on the back similar to the Owl aftermarket products on the Revel.. But I’m sure you had plenty of time to scramble around Owen and Lynn’s Revel to see if that’s right for you. (The bike storage is the problem in the Revel, but you can always run them inside and only drop the bed down partway to clear the bikes. But the Pocket is made for bikes. The Murphy bed is high to accommodate two bikes and there are tiedowns under it. Also, of course, the two Solis models. But still only FWD. but if you were to get the pop top on the Solis, which is an option, though I’m not sure how canvas walls up there would do translation in winter camping. But John‘s long frame could fit up there easily. It’s just getting up there when you’re tall. Jerry topped out and hit his head on the canvas roof before his hips were high enough that he could clear the top of the ladder and crawl in easily. And Jerry is what I call “normal tall“. It’s hard enough to factor his height in when looking for something like a class B. However, when you’re getting into 6‘5“, that’s a whole different league. But we have good friends and he is also 6‘5“ and I gave them all the information on our Travato and they went around looking and ended up buying a Travato KL. It’s tight, esp the 28” wide bed, but one of the beds is much longer and fits him, so he accommodates.
I would say that the majority of people don't use their generator and find it a pain. That's probably why PW has gone all electric in their Ontour models. We'll be going with the Transit AWD. Not a fan of the Revel and definitely don't want a Mercedes chassis: diesel/DEF issues. But we have at least a year before we'll have our new rig and continue to enjoy the one we have. You're so right about the grass being greener...
Wow, 5-years of invaluable experience ! I have 0-years, but am hoping to change that, and soon. For now, still gathering a ton of information.
The van of your dreams sounds a bit like the a van do it Liv, but maybe not so industrial + need the bath etc
considering an older one 2007 for part time traveling ; solo traveler and limited parking space at house so this could possible work.
Deb, it's always a joy to have a conversation with you. Yes, you shared honest reviews, instead of those influencers who seem to be high all the time about how great van life is.
So, thank you, gorgeous! You are living my dream, girl. 👍👍👍
You are so welcome. We’re coming up on 7 years this July. Can’t believe how the time has flown by.
Custom build. We used our sailboat experience to visit a custom van builder for our full time home. While we drive we don’t talk about the perfect van as we have it for us. So we have to find other things to chat about…and audio books!
This was very informative. Thanks for sharing.
As I watched it I kept thinking: “Oh George! - calling Humble Road!” 😆
Kudos for a great presentation. It helps me learn more about what I want and don’t want in an RV. Look forward to your other videos.
Amazing and so welcoming ! Thanks so much. Have you spoken to Logan at VanCraft in San Diego? They have the 12 volt nomad ac and lot of other thoughtful design details and “ingredients”. Thanks again!
I haven't but would love to know his thoughts on the AC.
Your filmmaking is becoming impressive. Loved all the quick cuts on each sentence at the beginning. Much better than a one shot monologue. The content was great too! Thanks.
Thanks. Lots of hills, valleys, and plateaus in the learning curve but that’s what makes it enjoyable.
Thanks. And a grab bar in the bathroom really helps when you're bumping along...
Pleasure-way has always been my dream van…….. but not until I win the lottery! 😝 😝
Sounds amazing. Except for one big issue for us, inside bike storage for when we upgrade our ebikes. But would be fun to see what they offer.
@@scott9751 I think we are at the full custom point but still good to see what others are doing.
We just bought our rig- 2004 Bigfoot with garage under bed, it's so nice to have bikes inside. Love watching your channel for tips
Thanks and welcome. The new van will be quite different from the old but we'll make it work or change it down the road.
Love your thinking! Great ideas…
I believe pleasure way changed the exhaust - factory system goes out the back.
My dream van would be battery electric. I enjoy your channel.
We own a Lexor FL and just love it. You were a great inspiration for us to go look and buy our PW Lexor FL ! Great video !! Thanks for the infos. 👍 from the great white north !
You brought up many good points which makes me rethink many options manufacturers are offering, thanks.
Excellent presentation. A fixed and raised bed, with storage underneath, is at the top of my list of changes I would make in our Beyond. I believe the RV industry overall is slow to acknowledge and respond to its users. Listening to a professional like yourself would improve their product and probably increase their sales and profit.
What a great opportunity. I think you should build your custom van and take us along the build process.
Great video Debbie b
Thanks for the tour, very informative!
5 years, well done and thanks for sharing your fun and informative channel.
We just don't use the generator except to "exercise" it. It's just dead weight.
Oh, you are rocking with those colorful tennis shoes too!
That's awesome Tim. Thanks.
(ours is 3&1/2 years old w/60k miles (now on 4th cross country drive)….can’t beat the 5yr warranty!)
I would also recommend a kitchen faucet w/pull out sprayer (just like @home). Looking forward to seeing your dream van become a reality!
We actually looked at Sportsmobile before we bought our current rig.
I think this was the best review packed with alternative info ever! Great job STM!
Thank you!
I always look forward to your videos. Thank you.
We'll be watching your progress on the dream build! Hey we just hiked Santa Elana Trail in Big Bend National Park 2 days ago... Inspired by you. It was great! Following your footsteps!
I imagine it is hot there this time of year but that’s probably the best hike on a hot day.
Please show a close up of how you have moon shade hooked to Ascent. Thank you so much for all you do.
Thanks. I’ll do that when we get on the road.
I have learned SO much from you and truly appreciate having your videos to watch and refer to. We get our PleasureWay Tofino in TWO WEEKS! I can't wait to get going. Thanks again for your videos.
So excited for your travels.
Very informative video with great ideas/suggestions. Can't wait to see the upcoming van build....and yes, I will want to come along ;-) .... PeAcE!
Thank you.
Yes, I have watched a ton of van builds.
Thank you for your updates and tips about your five year journey! I liked them so much, I’m now a subscriber of your channel. Blessings to you both💐
Thanks and welcome to our little community.
am definitely interested in following your adventures as your pursue your dream van
Look forward to seeing what you dream up on a build! And well, when you're ready to part and list this one, reach out to me. This is the kind we've been looking forward. And you can imagine how that's been going lol...
Well Debbie I am sure that George would love to build you your Dream Van. He did a great job on ours!
😅
Sue
Yes, I saw that video too. Couldn't believe how many nails he picked up.
Yes, lots of patience is definitely required these days.
Excellent summary of your likes and dislikes. Thanks for sharing. To your question for the exhaust, it likely on the the side opposite the gas fill spout. Is that the case? My recollection is that is the regulation. But then my recollection is older than 8 track tapes. Stay safe
Interesting. Perhaps so.
Interesting. Our frames are plastic though.
I hope pleasureway is paying attention
You never know.
We can open our doors without moving the hitch but it is a very tight tolerance.
@@FromShetoMe in the 2020 model you can't (FYI). I don't think the Transit has that issue, tho.
@@JulezySays That’s interesting. I’ve been telling people to check out the 1up hitch.
@@FromShetoMe GREAT! I've been wondering about an ebike rack. thanks!! 🙂
Great video, interesting topic.
We tried find or build a dream vehicle for the same reasons a few years back but becase of time restrictions in building decided to go with an Earthroamer .
Those are amazing beasts. We have an HOA we have to deal with so that limits our options.
@@FromShetoMe they have restrictions in HOA?
LOL!
We think along the same lines. 🙃
As they say, your first RV is never your last.
Going to the Adventure Van Expo in San Juan this month? Lots of builders there. Lots of ideas too.
We hope to go to the one in Colorado this summer.
Overland Expo’s in Flagstaff, May 20-22 this year. I know-sooo many choices, it can overwhelm a person!
@@lindaborkan5965 We wanted to go but would be a huge detour from our planned route. We'll going to try do the Expo in Denver in August.
That's a great tip. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing your your review of the van 👍 I wish we would have bought a Pleasure Way but we have the Hymer Aktiv 1.0. I will say I know have to repair about everything on now haha 😂 Safe Travels.
Bummer. But now you are probably good at fixing stuff.
Built out our own Transit and it’s 6’6” inside. We have the benches -> bed in the back with side storage like you described. We also have upper cabinets and they make no noise since we built out of 80/20. We have no propane, inside tanks, AWD, no awning (just Moonshade).
Sounds great. We can't wait.
Check out the laveo dry flush toilet.
Oh wow! I figured this decision was coming! Many props to your husband for being okay with banging his poor head for 5 years. That’s love for sure. ✌️👋
Ps don’t forget to bring a Manometer on your long summer trip!
Wonderdul video! Thank you ❤️
Nice summary of the good and the bad.
Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/hbFkW1TFEC8/v-deo.html
We do like them.
LOL, snack cupboard. That sounds like a must have in any vehicle. We could use a big one.
I see a “Humble Road” build in your future. I think that you are the ideal customers for a custom build. Good luck.
😅
Exactly my thought. Route 6 runs right past northern NJ and they are building on the Transit chassis.
(John probably isn’t) 🤣…
I always look forward for your updates and I appreciate all your knowledge and tips tricks and hacks.
Thank you both🙏🏻♥️
I love watching Tiny house videos. Wish we could put one in our yard for guests.
@@FromShetoMe Thank you for your reply!

Sounds like you had a great winter away from miserable weather.
Thanks. I enjoy watching ARV videos. Have heard they have a 2 year waiting list.
Yes, I have heard the same 1 1/2yrs to 2yrs also.
I just can’t see us using a cassette toilet.
@@joanmcerlean7158 I agree on the toilet thing.
I am very happy with our Pleasureway but I agree a fixed bed and then huge garage would be great. We have the Ford Transit version which is longer so I am now having to account for the bike rack when parking. But could be worse! At least I don’t have to park a class A 😂.
Thank you. Very valuable info.
Interesting observation on the sink corners. Something I'll have to consider when ordering. Thanks.
I love watching Patrick's channel. I don't know how he finds the time to do so many videos along side his day job.
I am building my van, so your Information is really helpful for me to know that some of my decisions were correct.😂
That’s great. Would love to hear what you are doing. Feel free to share your knowledge or discoveries. energymaven@gmail.com
Thanks.
great video
Great video as always. Can you tell me where you found those nice fold-down shelves you have in the back above the sofa please? I seem to remember seeing them on one of your videos but can't find it now. They would work perfectly on our PW Lexor. Thank you.
I have a link in my Amazon Storefront but here is a direct link: www.amazon.com/dp/B07D8JYV73/?ref=idea_lv_dp_ov_d
They are in stock right now but are sometimes sold out.

Yes, Transit AWD HR Ext.
have you found a usb indoor / outdoor thermometer?
thx
Have never looked for one. If you find one you like, let us know.
I appreciate the suggestion. I’ve spent years perusing ideas on YT but not heard of her.
@@FromShetoMe I hadn’t either- I caught her on becoming Bev’s channel released yesterday when she got a quick tour of Jonnie’s van😃
Thank you. Please share a link for your hot pink shirt. 💕
I don't remember where I got it. The label says Chasor but I can't find that brand on line.
Ughh.
Good to know. Great to have you guys to bounce stuff off.
Many great points. So when are you getting your new van, and is George @humbleroad building it??? 😁🤗💕. Happy travels!
Hardest part is getting the chassis. Will update soon.
On Lexor, there is an option to adjust all lights to a variety of strengths. It is not easy to find, maybe in your Ascent also?
Yes, we can dim the lights but just don’t like the bright white color.
Have you seen the Wingamm vans? I have not seen another van maker that utilize space better.
Never heard of them but will check it out. Thanks.
We’re going with the Transit. Done with DEF and overpriced maintenance.
Thank you for showing us the changes you would make! I assume your RV is diesel. Would you find it easier to have a gas RV? I look forward to your videos and appreciate you including us in your travels!
I think we would prefer gas.
