    I like the one you're in. Which is that one? Also can you do a comparison with the Lexor TS?

      I'm currently in a 2017 Pleasureway Ascent. I can definitely do a comparison between the Ascent and Lexor if enough people would like to see that.

    You do the most informative, understandable, and balanced RV reviews on UA-cam! Excellent job. I follow many fun and informative RV channels but I will always come to yours for information on class B motorhomes!! Thanks for the excellent work. Subscribed and waiting for the next video. Looking at an Lexor FL when I retire.

    Thank you , Neil, for a quality and objective review. I recently bought a 2018 Lexor. I had looked at and researched B vans for two years prior to my selection of the Lexor. I really liked the Roadtrek/Hymer product and almost bought one of their vans because they seem to have cutting edge technology with volt start and all battery power for the rv components. As you correctly stated in previous videos, one needs to determine how the van will be primarily used, as well as ones budget. Since I am an empty nester and will only travel with my wife and a dog, I choose Pleasureway due to quality and comfort. The Lexor’s rear sofa is very comfortable and the seams are not felt at all when sleeping. I am 6’2” so the 76” length of the Lexor works better for me. Although I have automatic generator start with the Lexor, Hymer’s under hood generator seems better in theory (quieter and not a second engine to maintain). There is no perfect van, each has pros and cons as you so aptly stated. For me, the build quality won. I guess you would categorize me as a premium buyer. We are fortunate that we have great choices from which to choose.

      i couldn't agree more - the lexor is a fantastic van for a couple. ideal really both in terms of size, layout and quality. excellent. i'm glad you can appreciate my trying to be objective in my reviews. it is true that depending on the type of buyer you are will dictate which brand and model is right for you. i'm glad you found your perfect rv and i'm even happier that you continue to watch my channel. thank you!

    My wife actually watched this with me and was talking back to the screen 😄 I think the Lexor is her winner because: microwave down low vs. high (she's kind of short), regular black tank vs. cassette toilet, and the ability to have usable twin beds *or* a queen at a lower height vs. the kind of high up, queen or nuthin' bed in the Hymer. I'm still a fan of Pleasure Way's nicer build quality, too.
    Nice idea for a video, pitting two similar Class B vans against each other.

      you guys need to record this and send it back to me so that I can show it in gag reel or something! it's a great point you make about the height of things. regarding the cassette toilet - honestly I'm not anti-cassette toilet! I tried to be balanced when I said that its small capacity only matters if you're boondocking and in the case of the Aktiv, because it is marketed as a family van then 5 gallons seems smallish to me. for a couple it might be okay and for a single person it is fine. see, i'm not biased! ;-)

    Great job with this comparison. I think that the microwave down/ fridge up is the better design. One tends to use the fridge more than the microwave. So, going in and out of the fridge at a more normal height seems to be the better option for me. The 5-10 times one goes into the fridge compared with the one or two times using the microwave makes it important to me to have the fridge at a better height for ease of use. Just my thoughts. Keep up your great work!!!

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +2

      here's what i'd like to see: a microwave that pops up out of the counter - at counter height but then lowers to give me counter space and also a drawer type refrigerator like you see on some European models - keeps the cold air in!

    Neil, I LOVE your comparison videos in which you point out what works and what does not. I LOVE the versatility of the Activ ( garage/storage/rear bed area ), the BONUS sleeping area up at FRONT lounge, FOUR lap belts which is HUGE. Pleasure Way is #1 as far as quality build ( which is why YOU have yours ). This would be my #1 pick ( 2 kids ) but now that Hymer is bankrupt, not sure what is going to happen to their vans. This is tragic, even more so for the current owners of these vehicles ( and Roadtrek). LOVE the videos, keep them coming please.

    Another great video, but my wife and I think the Lexor really won ;) We have one and love it.
    We do fit 3 people (our daughter too) easily into the bed, and they do sell an inflatable bed for the front seats.
    It’s more expensive, but it’s built better with great craftsmanship.
    Also, the low microwave doesn’t bother us because we don’t use it that much - especially compared to how often we use the refrigerator.
    How can a family of 4 boondock with a 5 gallon tank?
    I want a recount ;)

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +2

      Yeah I hear ya. I couldn't ding the Aktiv too many points for the 5 gallon tank because it's such an edge case to boondock with a family. Most people will not be boondocking an hence they will be able to empty their cassette toilet out when they need. I mean no offence to anyone who owns a Lexor - you know I love the Lexor! It is a fantastic camper van and won my best premium value award for a reason!

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +1

      so right you are Janet. Each of us will value different things and hence will prefer one over the other. I agree that for a single person the Lexor is likely a better choice for many. Still, the Aktiv is just so versatile and appeals to a much broader audience (single person, couple, family).

  • @classb4me915
    @classb4me915 6 років тому +3

    Great video, well done. I'm not sure about sleeping in the elevated rear double bed across the van??. What two North American adults still sleep in a double bed? I would need to be part cirque du soleil performer if I had to sleep on the outside near the rear doors then gracefully (those days are gone) climb over my better half and shoot the narrow gap between the kitchen and the bathroom all while my feet dangle not touching the floor, My question is if the price of both units were the same would you still pick the Aktiv ?

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +1

      i agree that the bed arrangement in the lexor is more ideal in terms of height and being able to sleep as twin beds as compared to the aktiv. still, the aktiv bed has its advantages, not the least of which is that it is more bedlike (no weird seems from a couch being transitioned to a bed) and you can always opt for the aktiv 2.0 with a rear sofa bed as well. As far as your hypothetical, it could never be: the lexor could never be priced lower than the aktiv given the money it takes to ensure its higher quality. however, to play fair and to answer your question i would still choose the aktiv over the lexor simply because for my needs I need more sleeping quarters. that isn't true for some buyers but for me it is and it trumps the quality of the lexor. if the quality of the aktiv were lower and they didn't offer their superior 6 year warranty then i'd have to think twice.

  • @lmittell
    @lmittell 6 років тому +5

    You've done an excellent, informative and impartial review from the standpoint of a 3(+) member family. However, my family consists of 2 people and 2 dogs. From our standpoint, the Lexor is the clear winner. You'd have done well to have designated 2 winners--one for couples and another for larger families. Of course, it's possible that the price differential could cause you to designate the Activ the best in both categories, but for me the Lexor wins in spite of the higher price.

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +1

      Hi, Imittell - appreciate your thoughts on this. i guess my thinking is that the aktiv works well for a single person, a couple but also for a family. while the lexor only really works for up to a couple. I didn't want to designate 2 winners because i didn't grow up a millennial (just kidding). i thought i would force myself to have to make a decision: which one is the better overall camper van. Of course for premium buyers the aktiv isn't even a consideration. for everyone else, the overall package from the aktiv likely will work better for them not the least of which is that $20k price differential. Just my opinion of course ;-)

    Great comparison Neil.
    I really like the lounge configuration in the Lexor. There really is no
    where in the Aktiv that you can kick your feet up after a long day, sink back into the sofa and watch some TV or read a book. Plus having all windows on the passenger side is another huge plus for the Pleasureway.
    Never ever want to deal with the constant hassle and stink(!) of emptying a cassette toilet.

      you can't beat the lounge on the TS line of products from Pleasureway . They have designed about the perfect lounge for a camper van I must say. You're right there.

    Thanks for the comparison, Neil. Having just sold my Aktiv after one and a half years of use, i have to say I LOVED the cassette toilet. I wish I could find another manufacturer who uses them. I do a lot of dry camping and stealth camping. And I found it so easy to empty the cassette toilet. You can easily wheel it into a rest stop bathroom or any public bathroom and easily dump contents into the toilet. No searching for a black water dump station, which are not always plentiful. Two of us regularly using the toilet for "everything" routinely got 5-7 days use before needing to think about dumping it somewhere. It is so practical and easy! A great system, so user friendly and convenient. Kudos to Hymer for introducing Americans to this great toilet option. Unfortunately, reason I sold my Hymer is terrible fit and finish, solar/volt start system that never worked right, and the absolute worst quality control. When someone goes through THREE sets of li-ion batteries in less than a year, something's not right. Hymer's service network worked very hard to fix things, but they never were able to get things right. Buy a Hymer-buyer beware!

      sam thanks soooo much for sharing your experience as an actual owner! it know that many people are going to find this comment helpful. it is disappointing to hear about the quality issues that you had on your Aktiv. I owned a Roadtrek prior to my Pleasureway and got rid of it after a year for quality issues as well. while I loved my roadtrek I didn't thin that the little quality issues would really add up to diminish the overall experience.

      Hi, Patricia. Many Roadtrek models allow you to customize them without propane and rely on EcoTrek (lithium and solar). Check them out. Also, the Revel by Winnebago doesn't have propane either (due to the 4x4 nature). You may be able to equip some Carado's without propane as well.

    I wish I could have a van with the best of each. Single, retiring next year (at 58!), and going to pursue my lifelong hobby of photography (little more than a hobby, have actually sold enough photographs to more than pay for my equipment). Live in the four corners area with great landscapes to photograph. But have yet to settle on what van to purchase in the next couple of months. Prefer the Hymer bed set up...want the garage for bikes, climbing equipment, backpacks, skies, etc. Prefer the Hymer bathroom - if in a commercial campground they have bathrooms, same with Forest Service and State/National Parks. If out in the woods, well I have a trowel and know how to dig a hole. The five gallons sounds about right for the cassette toilet - any more and it would start to get pretty heavy. But prefer the Lexor front lounge. Prefer the Hymer kitchen primarily because don’t think I want a three way frig. Like the Hymer warranty, six years even on appliances is worth a lot. What I really need is something with significant battery power - four hundred or more amp hours, great solar capabilities, etc. hate generators but the volt start system appears to be a valid alternative I could live with. My guess is 80% plus of the time I would be somewhere without electric hookups. What both, and most, class B have missing is reasonable cold weather capabilities. Not looking for 0 F but would be great to be reasonably okay when the temp drops at night into the mid 20s for a few hours. While I like the Luxor quality, for me the the roughly $20k price difference is significant. But I do love the Luxor front lounge! Sitting at the work station doing some photoshop edits would be sweet....

      Mike, great wish list and analysis. You may want to consider the Aktiv 2.0 with rear sofa bench. that gives you two lounges: one in the rear like the Lexor and the other up front. The Travato is more winter ready than say the Aktiv or Lexor and if you want all the lithium batteries and a 48volt system then you can wait for their upgrade coming out!

    • @AtlasRandGaming

    Thank you for the great 4K uploads. Love your reviews and glad you came out at the end for the Activ by putting the price difference into the equation as well. Even though I am American, I love the European favorite - the front lounge. With it, I can converse with friends, which a rear lounge cannot do and is therefore a deal breaker for me. I understand your situation with a TV watching daughter. But you are right, kids and adults nowadays mostly watch or read on their iPads. I can't stand TV commercials so I use my big screen as my computer monitor - current version is 46". The 24" screen would be a comedown but the placement in the Activ is perfect for my purposes. I have two questions for you pertaining to the Activ: 1) Can the cassette toilet be used as a 5 gallon bucket - insert a plastic bag under the toilet seat (is there water in the cassette toilet bowl like a home toilet)? and 2) if carrying a bike or two in the rear during the day, is there enough room for them in the aisle at night when the bed is made and still retain access to the toilet?

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому

      I don't think the cassette toilet could be used easily as a bucket. there's no easy access to the area where the tank goes. you'd have to see for yourself. no room in the aisle to store anything if you hope to pass. the aisle in the Aktiv is very narrow. it's one of its weakest points.

    Neil, I really enjoy your videos. So informative and well produced. I’m surprised the Hymer won your bake off. It is a nice camper van. It’s a difficult decision as one that is looking to purchase. Keep up the great work.

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +1

      hi, Scott. Thank you so much. It was not an easy decision. As I say I really like Pleasureway and from a quality standpoint there is no comparison between the two., But quality is only one dimension and I do these comparisons to force myself to have to make hard decisions - just like everyone else looking to buy in the market. For me it came down to the fact that the Aktiv is just so much more of a camper van than the lexor. A single person can use it, a couple can use and a family can use it. It is practical and the quality is good enough. Premium buyers won't buy it but the video isn't directed at them. Combined with the options like 1200amp hours of lithium batteries, volt start lots of solar a 6 year warranty and coming in at $20k less just created a compelling package... to me. I love the Lexor and in fact seriously considered it but I have a family and it doesn't work as well for me as the Aktiv. Would be interested in hearing other people's perspectives as I love this stuff!

      hi, Troy. glad you like my channel! if you're looking for a daily driver then you need to stay at under 19 feet 6 inches and that leaves you with the Ascent by Pleasureway, the SS Agile by Roadtrek or the Revel by Winnebago. Height is my main concern because I would like to park it into a public garage where normally there’s a height limit clearance. I prefer under 18 or 19 ft in length and under 7 ft height. Bathroom is no longer my priority anymore because I would rather choose a composting toilet to avoid any Black tank issue. Thank you!!

    Great video as are all your videos. Based on this review I went and looked at the PW Lexor FL. It it beautiful and high end build. But a few things I questioned. In the Kitchen only one large drawer under microwave. Where do you put silverware for example? No small silverware/utensil drawer, no counter extensions which make it very small. I’d say kitchen is limited in use. In the bath which is large for a B keeping the beautiful wood cabinet dry during a shower would be a challenge. The shower curtain does cover but the shower head is behind the curtain as are the faucet knobs. They should have just had a plastic sink like the Plateau or Ascent. Finally the LP is only 4.7 gal and a lot runs on LP so you might need to refill a lot. But it was a beautiful class B and you should mention that it has full windows with angled lower glass unlike the flat sliding windows on the Travato or Zion’s

      well here's what i can tell you: the Sprinter is going to have better safety features like lane keep assist, blind spot detection and collision detection. But it is diesel and all that goes along with that. The Promaster is going to be super simple and convenient to own since it is gas. it will be easier to find places to fill up and maintenance will be less. It won't have the safety features of the Sprinter. The sprinter is also a foot and a half shorter than the lexor.

    Great comparison. Two small comments to consider, it would be good to compare external storage if any. I would like to carry a set of golf clubs and most of the time I cannot tell if this possible. The second comment is not related to specifically this video. It is more a comment from a different perspective. There seems to be a move to provide electric cooking tops and therefore get rid of propane. On the surface this sounds good and should result in some additional benefits since the propane tank is not necessary, but there are also downsides. Chefs will tell you that open fire cooking is more uniform. In addition, the removal of the propane tank seems to negate the possibility of a outside grill hook up. Once again, a great video series.

    Another informative video. I see no problem with either. The Aciv wins for me based on the $20,000 price differential. The 5 gallon cassette is not an issue since I travel mostly alone. I, too am impressed with the smaller but functional European vans. Wish they were made here in the U.S. Their price point is more attractive as well. What I miss is my old 1985 Dodge Van with the fold down back seat and three captain chairs and an "icebox." This would work well for me since I have the camping gear to outfit it and do not really need all of the modern fancy builds of the two vans that you compared. But except for old high milage Dodge vans, there are no new ones on the market that just come with a basic interior. I do not have the skill set to build my own, so I am still waiting for that low mileage used Class B van. Thanks for the great reviews, I like your style and honesty.

    You do such a great analysis people can get a good idea of what they need and what works. I really wish we had Preasure Way in NZ unfortunately we have L/H drive. and even though we get some European vans here they have R/H main door which means that you exit into the traffic on roaf sides a problem with children and grand children. so for me we need L/H access. for some its not a problem

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому

      Brian, thanks very much. One day (soon hopefully) self driving vans will make lh/rh a thing of the past and we will be able to utilize that cab area as living space. it is a pity about the sliding door being on the wrong side for you. it would be cool if vans were modular and came with both lh and rh automatic sliding doors. but of course that's fantasy and doesn't help you. maybe a custom build?

    If you are to reference to the 360 video as an option, it would be nice if you posted both at the same time. Some of us, as you know, LOVE the 360 videos but also are interested in the video subject matter so we are forced to watch the “old technology” simple video... and by the time the 360 is posted, we aren’t as likely to watch the subject again just to see it in 360. This in turn could make you think that the 360s are not as popular erroneously.

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +2

      it's a great point you make. i haven't figured out yet the best time to release the 360 degree videos. I love them and would prefer to only do them and not the old technology but 75% of my viewers watch only the TV versions and 25% watch my 360 videos. I tried to release them both at the same time but then the 75% who wanted the normal version was angry because they were confused on which one to watch. So I moved the 360 version to a Thursday release date. I could potentially release the 360 degree version first on Tuesday but then I'm sure the majority of my viewers would be confused and try to watch it. So.... not sure what to do. Open to thoughts as I want to do what's best for viewers...

    • @tradersato
      @tradersato 6 років тому +3

      Ultramobility, obviously starting with the parameter that you cannot please everyone all of the time.... I’m perplexed as to how some viewers would mistake the two. Your 360 videos are stamped with a 360 graphic, if I remember correctly. Perhaps emphasizing the “360” both in tittle and in a larger or more prominent position would lower the complaints from accidental viewing of the wrong video. Other than that, you were posting them simultaneously so it was easy (to me) to differentiate which one I wanted to watch. The only other option is to put an initial link to the 360 on the normal one and vice versa on the 360. In that way, someone could quickly jump to the other format if they so wanted to..... but as always, great job and I hope you don’t see my posts as nagging but more of a constructive criticism or “feedback” from a viewer... 👍🏼

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +3

      no i do appreciate the feedback! always. i'm perplexed too. i but a graphic on the thumbnail, i put a screen up front and now recently I've added a voice over so that if you're not looking at least you hear. I've also started linking the 360 to the normal and vise versa. maybe for this next week i'll release simultaneously again and see what happens. thanks as always for your constructive thoughts!

    Well i have toured both the Lexor and the Activ (actually used the Lexor), when you get to Fit and Finish the Activ falls way short. So much shoddy workmanship in the Activ, things that are missing, don't fit right and are just not up to snuff! Lexor on the other hand, i would challenge you to find sawdust from the build, space between fixtures (cupboards/ceiling/walls) and things that are amiss! It is a lopsided comparison, the Lexor is the winner for more reasons than are shown on this comparison. Very Well Done! THX

    Annnnnd the underdog takes it for the win!!! Such a fun video Neil i hope you’ll do more of these! Hymer has really been stepping up there game. I’m curious if you’ve seen this new division called the Carrado? I haven’t seen one in person but I would guess that’s it’s a budget friendly product from Hymer. The one that has really grabbed my attention is the Carrado Axion. It maybe the only 17 foot campervan on the market (that I’ve seen). The ones I have seen comes with optional EcoTrek 400, solar panels and underhood generator. It’s nice Hymer can use that tech throughout their van line ups. I’m a single person looking for a camper and the Axion has a ton of benefits. Plenty of storage, a rear bath, and only 17 feet! My biggest concern would be the fit and finish. I haven’t seen one in person but would guess that and probably some other cost cutting maybe a turn off. I’ll reserve judgment till I see one in person. But at 69K fully loaded you can’t beat that price. Thoughts on the Axion? Are you aware of any other 17 foot Camper Vans? Great job as always and keep these videos coming!!!

      @Ultramobility  6 років тому

      i totally get it and i hope you don't take me wrong. i really do appreciate your sharing solutions. i think that's very valuable. my comments are really directed toward the aversion to a black holding tank. when you start talking about these other casette toilet solutions that involve stowing and towing extra casette toilets it kinds of makes you think: "is a black tank really that bad?" honestly, i have not problem with a black tank. in fact I've heard that many Europeans would prefer to have the black tank system that we use because of its convenience. oh well, the grass is always greener...

    Wondering if those prices were dealer specials. I was just on the Hymer web site and they list the Aktiv starting at $ 92,814 and the 2.0 starting at $100,503 I noticed the front bed configuration, rear sofa bed and lithium batteries are listed as options. Standard on the Lexor, $169 for air bed that goes across front of the Lexor's seats. You think it might be getting closer to the Lexor in pricing? Thanks for your videos!

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому

      hi ace. not sure what you mean by dealer specials but both were marked down as is common for most dealerships. you'll always get a price lower than the msrp on these vans. the price i'm showing are the list prices including the options that i mentioned. it is likely that these buyers got these vans for less than those list prices. I think the Aktiv will always be around $20k less than the Lexor mainly because of the higher build quality on the Lexor.

    In my case I would be choosing the Aktiv over the Lexor. Being tall, 6'4", I want things like the Microwave, control panels, etc to be up at eye or chest height. Plus I just won't fit in most of these bed length or width wise. I would have to sleep diagonally across the queen sized variations in each coach. The only real negative I find in the Aktiv's layout is that dinky little refrigerator that is stuck down low in the galley.

      it all depends on what kind of buyer you are: if you're a premium buyer than paying the difference is definitely worth it. If you're a performance buyer then the Aktiv is going to win you over. It's quality is good enough but it just wins out over the Lexor in terms of versatility, options, price and warranty. Those things are Erwin Hymer's strengths. • @rikdeere
    @rikdeere 6 років тому +1

    I really like just about everything on the 2018 Lexor FL, but the deal breaker for me are: 1. The 2.8 KW generator is only 6.3 inches from the street to bottom of the unit - way too low. Also the Lexor (as I understand it) cannot really be used in freezing temps - which amazes me as it's built in Saskatchewan. Water tanks and lines are exposed. The Aktiv is also very nice in many ways, but the bathroom has a cheap and flimsy feel. I would same the same for all the window blinds and screen door. These are all things that don't seem to have a chance of lasting more than a few years if you're not very careful. I think you made the right choice with the Ascent.

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому

      I really dislike those blinds in the Aktiv as well. the housing is very cheap looking. agree with you about ground clearance on the generator. I have to test drive one and see for myself. as long as the generator is above the rear axel i'm okay with it but i have to check that out. the longer the wheelbase the more bottoming out that occurs. I had the 23 foot sprinter and bottomed out several times as do others. I've never bottomed out in my Ascent. Since the promaster is between the short sprinter and long sprinter in length I wonder how it fairs.

    • @rikdeere
      @rikdeere 6 років тому +1

      The issue for me is not just about bottoming out, but living in the Houston area we get sporadic flooding and that needs to be considered as part of the decision in this region. I’ve driven my Subaru Outback through 6-8 inches of water on several occasions. What happens when exposing your Onan to about 2-3 inches of water? The answer is obvious - not good... This is where the Hymer Aktiv has the advantage with the 2nd alternator and VoltStart. The Ascent also has a low clearance generator, but higher up than the Lexor.

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому

      gotcha. i'm not sure how low the second alternator is on the aktiv but it hangs pretty low too. i'd have to measure it to be certain but I've eyeballed it and it is pretty low.

      Hey Neal! Yeah I’m trying to remember where I read about it as it’s not officially published .. I believe it was regarding the Activ model that’s been introduced in the Roadtrek lineup that may offer a future black tank version. I know this will be a huge game changer for Activ in the North American market should they go down that path. I don’t understand how they can seriously boon dock for weeks with only a 5 gallon cassette unless you plan to dig a hole to dispose of the waste which I can imagine to be very unpleasant and i would think harmful to the environment. Even the Russo’s admit they limit their use of the cassette and opt to go use public facilities as much as possible which defeats the purpose of being “self-contained”. Cheers!

    I think the Aktiv has more options for dumping the cassette toilet than the typical black tank on most class b’s. Construction is all around us and it would be a breeze to dump in one of the porta potties. Rest areas are another possibility. I don’t see the cassette as that much of a problem. My concern is with the interior height. Brochures show the interior height as 6’1’’. I wonder why the Travato which is on the same chassis has a couple more inches? Is the Aktiv more insulated or something?

    You did not show the table in the Aktiv down in the fully open position. The passenger seat should be able to reach the table comfortably. Also, if the cassette toilet was traded out for a composting toilet, boondocking would be easier. The microwave as well, could be replaced with a microwave/ convection oven. Also, you did not mention the advantages of "volt". You would be able to leave a pet in the van because the air conditioner could cycle on when it gets too hot. Would the manufacturer of the Aktiv provide those changes or would you have to contract it yourself? Would they discount for leaving out the items that you don't want? Good review. I wish you could have shown the "movement" to demonstrate the issues you discussed rather than just use photos.

    This is not a fair comparison. For a couple with 1 child the Hymer may be the better choice. Only 2 very tiny people who get along very well could ever sleep in that front area. And can the couple fit in that rear bed which is too small for us? Also my husb. could not stand up in the Hymer bathroom. And that 5 gal. cassette is not really adequate for 3or4 people. For a couple, the Lexor is likely the winner. It's your needs that will dictate which is the best choice. And as far as quality build it's hands down the PW.

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +2

      don't disagree with anything you say here. the fact is that a family (3 or 4) can use the aktiv and with the upcoming loft addition it is even better for the family. that's just not possible with the lexor (and candidly pleasure did not design the lexor for families). The bed in the Aktiv is just fine for a couple. i'm 5'10" and it is fine for me. not sure how tall is your husband? Agree that the cassette is small for a family if they are boondocking but honestly this is an edge case. most families are going to be able to empty out their cassette just fine. can't argue with you on quality which is why i gave the lexor the best premium value award. it is such a great value for the dollar.

      absolutely, a family would be emptying often but the advantage is that you can literally empty anywhere. I'd love to get a rig with a cassette toilet to try it out for myself for an extended period. With regards to the build quality all I can say is that from my limited time with the van it appeared to be okay. i didn't see anything stick out to me as quality control issues. However, there are comments on the facebook group from owners who are reporting quality problems. I've joined the group and will be investigating. I need to get ahold of one for an extended trial to report on a long term test.

    $20k cheaper, better warranty, volt start. Under 20' makes it parking-on-the-street legal in all states and provinces. Activ 1.0 is a better "value" certainly, but the 5 gallon toilet limitation is ridiculous. Might George's compost toilet fit in the Activ? We travel alone, and leave the bed made up. The 1.0 w/compost toilet would make a lot of sense for us.

      hi health travelers. i'm not sold on compositing toilets. they seem to be a lot of hassle which candidly is the last component that i want to be thinking a lot about. just my opinion.

      Agreed. The 5 gallon cassette toilet kills it for me. I can't imagine the hassles of a 4 person family having to carry & dump so often. Even while staying in a full hook-up service camp ground.

    As a new subscriber, I’m very impressed by your reviews but I have to disagree with your choice. The Aktiv can carry more passengers but its ability to support more people with a limited toilet black tank puts it second place in my view. These van are design for no more than 2 persons unless 4 to 5 people don’t go to bathroom or take baths when boondocking.

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому

      hi, henry. well first off thank you for becoming a subscriber! welcome! I don't tend to disagree with you on the point about the cassette toilet. having said that, this is not a new design. the aktiv has been selling in Europe, with a cassette toilet for years and it appears to work just fine for families. i'm reserving judgement until I actually get to use one for an extended period. my belief is that the convenience of simply being able to empty it wherever and whenever mitigates some of the concerns about its size. i'm not certain about this but that's my assumption. it must be what is happening in Europe otherwise they wouldn't be using cassette toilets over there for family vans in almost every single van. having said that I've also heard from Europeans that they really like our black tanks and wish that they had them there....so there's that.

    Why don't mfgrs use translucent glass or plexi doors on the bathroom? It would visually open up the whole van, and I would think it would eliminate the need for a shower curtain to protect the wood door. Other than providing privacy, I don't understand the whole wood door in a wet bath logic.

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому +2

      great point Jennifer! I do think it is for privacy as you mention.

    • @janetfolkerts5827
      @janetfolkerts5827 6 років тому +4

      IMO..that wood would not stand up to long as anyone knows the shower curtain does NOT always go where needed or stays in place and water finds a way out where it doesn't belong. I would want to apply a double water seal finish to the wood at the bath door opening and cabinet in the Lexor before ever using it. wood and water are not compatible in such close space.

      Don't think so - you can get the under hood generator without voltstart. Voltstart on its own is about an $1800 option I think and shoud be evaluated as t whether you really want/need it.

      Many people handle 50 pound luggage going to airports. I've only had my Aktiv on one three night outing but found the cassette to be pretty easy to handle and didn't notice any odors when dumping at the campground dump station. Might be a different story dumping in a toilet though. Guess I'll be finding out! Thanks for the quality reviews Neil!

    Isn't the toilet in the Lexor TS larger than the Lexor FL

    • @Ultramobility
      @Ultramobility  6 років тому

      hi sea ray - the bathrooms are exactly the same between the Lexor TS and FL. Frankly I'm a bit surprised that they didn't put the smaller bathroom in the FL but they didn't.

      I like the floorplans on the pleasure waste but I'm not sure how long they're goint to be around I was just reading a report that into thousand 11 they had 26% of the class B marketplace in 2012 that went to 16% and down 2016 they're a little above 10%

      i'd be more worried about the even smaller coach builders like Coachhouse, Coachmen, Midwest Automotive. While some of these coach builders sell other classes or are owned by larger companies, their market share is much smaller and are more likely to exit the class b market than pleasureway. It is true however the PW needs to either get bought out by one of the larger players or concentrate on a niche market.

      @Wingeezer 6 років тому +3

      I spoke with someone who owns a Roadtrek and assured me the black tank is not a big deal. Good to hear other opinions. I thought compost toilets were state of the art.

    • @Wingeezer
      @Wingeezer 6 років тому +4

      Having used black tanks for abut 30 years I concur that they are no big deal!
      I think one would likely get much more "Close and personal" to human waste when dealing with the cassette than with a black tank! I have had experience handling a "Porta-potti" in our very early camping days and it is similar in concept to the cassette.
      I grant you though that the cassettes could have advantages for some folk though.
      I was very enthused with the Aktiv - on paper. But for us, when we actually were in one, for us it was an immediate turn off as even though we are smallish people, we found it so congested and cramped inside.
      The main aisleway is literally only 17" wide! Even one person might have to crab walk down it - no way for two to pass!
      By comparison the aisle we just looked at in a Roadtrek 210 is 30" wide,
      although that is probably the widest you will find in a Class B as it is a wide body Class B on a Chev Express van platform.
      The Lexor TS that we visited was in a different category than the Aktiv and seemed much more open despite having a very large bathroom (compared to most B's).
      My wife loved the decor. My only slight concern was that it still uses an Onan generator, and also I wasn't sure about there being storage space for slightly larger items such as a small BBQ, camp chairs, and an Instant pot
      I had thought that the new Lexor FL model would really be the one for us (Have not been able to see one yet) - but then I learned that compared to the Lexor TS, they had to shorten the galley and really cut back on kitchen storage. That would likely make it a non-starter for us as we really do want to use it for significantly long camping trips and would want adequate kitchen storage.
      We are still looking! For now the units on our short list seems to be focusing on: RT 210Pop / RT Adventurous CS / Pleasureway Plateau FL.
      For us, the 210 seems to have a lot to offer - GM rather than MD for service, all kinds of storage both inside and out, Length compromise between Lexor and the longer adventurous / plateau, largest twin beds, underhood generator etc.
      Slightly dated looking decor though and a bit less headroom. Nothing is perfect!
      I think Class B selection is inevitably a compromise of many favctors and becomes a very personal thing depending on needs, wants, preferences.

      fair point but the aktiv 1.0 and 2.0 are identical except for the bedroom which is larger in the 2.0 and the 1.0 already trounced the lexor in terms of its bedroom so the 2.0 wouldn't have changed anything. i see what you're saying and will try to compare equal length vans moving forward!
