A lot of older people speak like that. Mind you he has certain "flavor" to his speech. It's like a humble and soft speech that's common on people from ranchs, specially older folks.

I remember when Babish was just a regular guy who made dishes that he saw in movies and tv shows. I am thrilled to see how much this channel has grown.

I'm Venezuelan, and I understand how corn is so important to our cultures. But this series has truly captured my interest thanks to Rick's awesome take and the high quality of the whole production, but most importantly because Mexican cuisine represents more than exotic tasting experiences is just opens up a whole understanding of our Latin American past and future. This is one of the series I look forward to. Rather than the typical UA-cam yuks making 20 pound cheeseburgers or lobster ice cream, this is more like a documentary. Massive credit to Babish as well for supporting and sponsoring this. That platform’s audience is gold but the work is excellent and I hope it is successful enough to keep going.

Seeing the corn growing on the side of a mountain like that is incredible for someone from the USA like myself, since most of our corn gets grown on flat plains
Funny, here in the UK we joke about how our food traditionally all looks quite brown or beige.
The food you show in these beautifully shot films has such a vibrant colour pallette, reds, orange, purple, greens.

Put something beige in the oven at 180 degrees for half an hour. Season to taste.
The colour correction in these videos is outstanding too! makes everything that much prettier
typical tortillas are beige. We go for the cheapest corn, my guess. but now I'm curious if different color mais has different flavors.

I live in Scotland, where Mexican cuisine is uncommon and where the culture is practically non-existant, so it really means a lot that I can learn about Mexican food through this series.
I absolutely adore this series. Mexican cuisine is high on my list of favourites and getting to see different regions and the history, tradition, and techniques as well as the huge variety of ingredients has been truly incredible. Keep doing what you're doing, Rick! It rules!
These episodes could easily be a full hour and I'd still watch. I think this one is easily one of my favorites so far.
This has the production quality of a proper tv show, if you sold “Pruebalo with Rick Martinez” to Netflix you’d get ten seasons

When I see a new episode of Pruebalo, I drop everything to watch uninterrupted! This is yet another beautiful, interesting and educational episode … that also makes me hungry. I don’t have a source of fresh masa … might give it a try, though. I do use Maseca Masa harina. The Mexican sourced products taste like real corn vs the U.S. hybrid corn (all the flavor bred out, I think!). The tamale history … easy to eat on the go …. Fascinating. Thanks to Rick, Choco, and all Rick’s team plus Babish for hosting.
Corn is a fantastic grain and a mediocre vegetable.

maseca is what a lot of mexican abuelas use anyway (at least mine does), so you’re not that far off the traditional flavors :)

As someone who lives in South East Asia and the closest thing we have to Mexican food is tex mex (chili's) and just this year they opened Taco Bell.
But this series makes my mouth water as how diverse and delicious looking Mexican food look!
As someone who grew up eating flour tortillas and was introduced to corn tortillas at age 12 it was way better and my life was forever changed

Tacos and tortillas are probably my favorite food. I eat tortillas every day and when I (and surely most Mexicans) travel outside mexico, it's usually the thing I miss the most. It's been around a year since I started to make my own blue corn tortillas at home from scratch and it's definitely worth it. I even bought a "metate" for making the masa in the most traditional way. I'm glad nixtamal and the tortilla process is finally capturing more attention, as it's a fundamental part of the Mexican gastronomy and it's a process that doesn't get the attention it deserves. Now I'm even trying to grow some blue corn in my garden, hoping to be able to make my own tortillas with corn harvested directly from my garden. This is the country, culture and food I feel proud of. Thank you for showing this side of our country, which many people don't get to know. These videos are amazing :)

I love videos like this. Not just showing how to make something, but explaining the culture behind a particular dish. It is my firm belief that a culture's food is a window into how that culture formed. Every one may have their own little quirks that make them different from one another, but every culture, every society that has ever existed has had their own cuisine. And because of that it is the best place to bring people together, as it is the one common point we all have and that we all enjoy.

Corn was a gift from our gods(in fact, there were religious representations of it), it's one of the biggest pillar of our culture since pre hispanic times. It's so tasty by itself, everything we makes with it it's delicious

This is the best cooking channel and this is a hill I'm willing to die on.
That blue corn is one of the most beautiful foods I've ever seen.
While I was growing up, there was a hand-woven basket on top of a bookshelf filled with dried corn cobs of various colors. Seeing that beautiful corn really took me back.
Also, I'm used to norteño tamales where they're wrapped in corn husks. I've never had them in banana leaves
Here in Edomex and I think the central zone in general we call them "Tamales oaxaqueños" (the ones wrapped in banana leaves), the ones wrapped in corn husks are simply Tamales
I am thankful for Rick and his journey into food and culture in Mexico. The quality of his work and the cinematography reminds me of Anthony Bourdain as he travelled and explore the food that informed the people.
This makes me want to get a tortilla press! I’ve never felt confident enough to make my own tortillas or tamales, but I’m definitely re-intrigued. Thanks for all the amazing shots too, I always forget how giant corn can be.
No press necessary. Just sandwich a dough ball between two sheets of parchment paper and take a rolling pin to it. It doesn't need to be perfectly round because you're just using it to wrap and pick up food.
My mom uses a sandwich bag between two paper plates when there is no press available, try that first before buying one, the super heavy press can sometimes be a little intimidating
After making a dough ball, sandwich between two sheets of plastic or parchment paper.
Use a heavy pan and press down all around with force. You might need to use a rolling pin after that to make it as thin as you like but it gets a round tortilla started.
This series is my favorite on UA-cam now. It really makes me want to travel to mexico!

I remember having tamales and tortillas and other corn based foods in Guatemala. It was like another world of flavor when I had that corn. It's amazing to see the drinks made from it too. I hope to go back to Guatemala once the pandemic ends so I can visit my relatives. It's been five years since I saw them last, time really flies.

I've always wanted to travel to Mexico and experience the food and the culture that it come from. I grew up in Arizona so Mexican cuisine was a small part of my childhood. I'd to travel just to get the real authentic experience.
