    Thanks for posting this video! Just bought a 2015 Cruze 1.4l turbo. Looks easy enough to change filter with no mess, as I insist doing it myself even though my car included 2 years of oil changes free.

      Toy Haulen I don't trust the dealerships myself. Granted there are honest techs out there but my experiences lately have brought me to the conclusion that I can do most repairs or maintenance cheaper, not necessarily faster, but cheaper and more accurately. Also helps me know what exactly has been done to the vehicles and when.

    In case anyone is wondering the torx head drain plug is a T40, took about half hour finding one in the garage and jimmy rigging it to get enough torque to take the damn thing off. nice thing is its grooved on the outside so you can thumb it in the whole way then giver a tiny crank to make sure she's tight

    Thanks Jungle King. My daughter just purchased a 2014 and I was wondering "how to" especially the filter. Never thought it would be on top! Thanks for that! Great job on the video and also the extra how to "RESET" once the oil was changed. May God bless you Jungle King.

    The dealer didn't destroy that cover that's cut exactly the way the recall states it should be. I did probably close to 50 at the GM dealer I worked at and that's exactly how they're suppose to be cut, and yes they usually are done with a sawzall.

    You can also use a 15/16 socket if you don't have a 24 mm.

    • @jungleking007Channel
      @jungleking007Channel  7 років тому +1

      I always recommend trying to obtaining the right tool for the task, but I know sometimes that is not an option. If a 6 point socket, you might be able to get away with it but be very careful. The cap is plastic, if feel it start sliding/rounding, stop immediately. 15/16" = 23.81 mm so there will be some play.

    Appreciate your. video as it came in really handy b y specifying that oil the filter is located at the top of the engine rather than the bottom.
    Thanks for your help. Oil filter cover is behind or underneath the intake cooler tube and the oil filter cover is black so it takes some patience to locate it For parts I went to an auto parts store and picked up the specific oil filter wrench fitting for 8.00 dollars. The oil filter l picked up had a spring one one end and l placed that end towards the oil filter cap. Thanks for urging to first hand tighten the oil filter cap so as to ensure that the bottom end hole is aligned. The owner’s manual does specify 4.25 quarts of GM approved Dexos 1 oil.

    remeber there´s a lot of oil draining from the filter housing to the pan when you remove the old filter.. so remember doing that before you drain or while you drain the pan.

    I think you will find your engine lasts longer if you only loosen the cap and stick. The potential for adding dirt and rust (moisture from the air). Plus if your engine is warmer, then you will get a better drain of the thicker sludge out of the engine.

  • @robert8995

    Good video! I would suggest pulling the oil feed line to the turbo and running a pipe cleaner through to make sure it's clear of any debris. Also, unplug the coil packs and turn the engine over until the oil light goes out, then plug the coils back in and start the car. You're basically starting the car with dry turbo bearings and that'll break the turbo shaft.

    I have a 2011 Cruze that had the middle of the tray cut out by the dealer after a recall. The problem was that the tray would hold oil that the idiots at oil change places would spill. Because the exhaust manifold ran through it, there were some fires reported. I heard that the purpose of the tray was either for better mileage or to prevent water from splashing up on the engine.

    • @jungleking007Channel
      @jungleking007Channel  9 років тому

      Ernest Miller It was a combination of both. The skid plate kept rocks and road debris from bouncing up into the engine compartment. It also was suppose to streamline the underside of the engine bay to improve fuel efficiency. They royally messed that up on mine.

  • @nathanmckinnie

    Just a heads up if anyone has the 1.8l (non turbo) engine then you will need to use 4.75 qts of oil with a filter change instead of 4.25. Also, GM only recognizes their own brand of oil and Mobile 1 as being Dexos approved, despite other brands having the Dexos lable

    • @jungleking007Channel
      @jungleking007Channel  8 років тому +2

      +Kinnie you should check out gmdexos(dot)com for the list of approved oils that carry the Dexos label. While yes, GM prefers Mobil1 products, as long as a lubricant has passed the tests, then it is perfectly fine to use and carry the Dexos labels.

    On a drain plug like that, use well made 12 point socket. Another thing about it is that that O ring in it eventually may bond to the oil pan. Put a dab of antisieze onto the flange/O ring mating surface to prevent that. Or, you WILL strip plug head.

      Oil filter cap is normal thread, not left handed thread. I bring my oil to our local auto parts store they have a free drop off location available. Check around some shops may take the oil for thier oil heaters or add to their used oil bulk for recycling.

      Transmission is on the list, not sure when it will be done as this vehicle is driven short distances so the it takes a while to hit the maintenance checkpoints. However, it may be done sooner rather than later to get the OE fluid out. Seems there has been issues with heating and rough shifting due to thin fluid. Thanks for watching!

    • @jungleking007Channel
      @jungleking007Channel  8 років тому +2

      The drain plug would not be hidden. My skid plate was cut due to a recall concerning oil getting on the plate due to the proximity to the exhaust, it was prone to catching fire if not cleaned off. You should not need to remove the plate.

    I own a 2014 Cruze 1.4L turbo and it's the first car i've had that has an engine with an oil filter in an easy to access location, it does make it very easy to do your own oil & filter change although I get the local mechanic to do my services every 12 months or 15 000 Km, thankfully they haven't just cut away that bottom panel to get to the sump plug like they did with this car.....

  • @scottecamel

    I just changed mine yesterday and with the 15/16 socket I had no play, it fit nice and tight. Could be how the plastic was molded, who knows. I gets me how the filter is pretty much paper and it costs double what the cost of a regular filter is. And a plastic housing on the side of the motor, what are cars coming to?

    • @jungleking007Channel
      @jungleking007Channel  7 років тому +1

      They were(and think still are) referred to as a "specialty" filter which is why they are more expensive. I don't get it either since it's essentially the internal filter portion of the more common metal filters. In my opinion, It is convenient to have the filter on top like this, one less thing to spill oil all over my driveway...

    I have 2014 can't get clear understanding on where the oil level needs to be. I'm currently at the top hash from tip of dipstick. I've put in the 4.25 quarts. Maybe it was still settling.

    • @jungleking007Channel
      @jungleking007Channel  6 років тому

      That's good then. As long as you are in the hashed section of the dipstick indicator, oil level is good. Run the engine for a few minutes to get the oil flowing then check again. The level usually settles out in the middle of the hashed section.

    Hey there i just bought a 2013 chevy cruze. I work at a Lexus dealership as a technician so i do my own oil change. Our lexus cars that use 5w30 are also the synthetic blend, but it's Mobile 1 brand. Since its still a synthetic blend would it be ok to use our oil or should i get my Dexos oil from the chevrolet dealer?

    • @jungleking007Channel
      @jungleking007Channel  9 років тому +1

      HERKFOOT21 Mobil 1 is GM's preferred brand of oil if I'm not mistaken, and typically the lower Dexos rating is a recommendation of a semi synthetic oil or better. To be sure what you want to use falls in the guidelines, go to the very informative site, gmdexos(DOT)com, then click on the licensees button. This will bring you to the lists of approved oils per the Dexos1 and Dexos2 specifications. I use a Full Synthetic oil in all my vehicles, so I'm technically going way beyond the GM recommendation for this particular vehicle. Hope this helps, Good Luck!

      +pyscez93 sounds like they forgot to reset the oil life indicator. No big deal, just have it reset. If you drive a decent amount, I would go by mileage this time because the indicator will be inaccurate until the next oil change.

    I dont have anything to lift my Cruze up with can i use the tire jack will that make enough room for me to get under?

    • @jungleking007Channel
      @jungleking007Channel  8 років тому

      +eric vanhorn The scissor jack will be able to lift your Cruze up enough but I would not recommend getting underneath it while supported by just the car jack. If you plan on changing oil yourself, I would recommend getting at least one set of jack stand and a decent low profile floor jack. Mine are from Harbor Freight, and I don't think I spent more than $40 on two sets of Pittsburgh 3 ton jack stands. The same place sells floor jacks for a reasonable price. They are constantly sending out coupons so keep a look out. Good Luck and stay safe.

      @jungleking007Channel  8 років тому

      +eric vanhorn Almost forgot another option, If floor jack an stands are a bit much, you can find a set of ramps for a reasonable price at most local auto parts stores. I like the jack stand method simply because I can rotate my tires while waiting for the oil to finish draining.

    • @jungleking007Channel
      @jungleking007Channel  9 років тому +1

      Would be the same requirement throughout the Cruze series. 5w30 that meets the Dexos1 requirement by GM. This usually means semi synthetic/synthetic blend oils and/or better. I use full synthetic in all my vehicles for the best protection possible. Believe it or not, the harshest driving you do is in town driving. The stop and go, and constant speed up and slow downs wear down surfaces and fluids rather quickly. Read the owners manual for more information on fluid requirements and intervals. Good Luck!

      @MillerHighLifez420 8 років тому

      Okay, thanks. Yea , I heard you say synthetic and was like I though that was for only high mileage cars. • @jungleking007Channel
      @jungleking007Channel  8 років тому +2

      I would recommend full synthetic, Especially if your vehicle has a turbocharger. Small lines feed the turbo and if they get blocked, it will fail. With how individuals drive now, we need all the protection we can get to keep our vehicles on the road. Check the video description for a website that lists the approved oils under the Dexos Requirement. Good Luck!

If it's a socket style like mine, you might have to grab what is left with a pair of vise grips(I know I cringe thinking this too) to try and at least crack it loose then should be able to unthread by hand the rest of the way. Possible other way to remove for both styles is to partially drill into the plug and use a bolt extractor tool. I hope this helps.

      I believe its the same general layout but do visual once over of the engine compartment and become familiar with it. Also recommend reading the "book never read" i.e. the owners manual. Pretty interesting stuff in there and a lot of diagrams that tell you where most everything is. Good Luck!

    That engine sounds horrible!
    Mine is hardly audible, yours sound as if it doesn't have a muffler, or has a leak somewhere in an exhaust gasket or something!
    How many miles did your car have after the oil filter change?

    • @jungleking007Channel
      @jungleking007Channel  8 років тому

      well we recently had it brought in for warranty work on the pcv valve. That may be the reason it was loud, but it wasn't showing the symptoms at the time.

    What socket size do i need for the plug on the oil pan?

    • @jungleking007Channel
      @jungleking007Channel  8 років тому

      +Imogen Van Horn it needs either a 10mm socket, or a torx bit socket(not sure which size) depending on model.

      +Marty Bernad I have my cars set for an oil change every 5000 miles. However, it's best to check the manual for the manufacturers recommendation.

    • @jungleking007Channel
      @jungleking007Channel  9 років тому

      scumbag Next time it's on jacks for a tire rotation, I may do a walk through but not an actual change. This Cruze is just about to hit 30K miles which is not even close to being due according to the manual. However, it drives short distances with heavy stop and go traffic so may do it a bit early(still a couple years off). If you can't wait I am sure, there are plenty of forums that have "How To" guides to walk you through. It's really not too difficult to do. Thanks for watching and good luck!

    When I had my oil changed at a dealer I told them DO NOT DO THE RECALL WORK ON THE SKID PLATE. They did anyway. I got pissed and they gave me a new one. Dealer techs are not the brightest. Every oil change I have to tell them do NOT do the recall work.

    Would this apply to a 2014 model LTZ?

    • @jungleking007Channel
      @jungleking007Channel  8 років тому

      I believe it is essentially the same process. Location of oil filter and drain plug may be slightly different because motor configuration is different between the Eco and the LTZ, and the oil plug on yours I believe uses a torx bit socket(not sure of size) rather than a standard 6 point socket. I would check your owners manual for oil capacity and filter type and everything else to be sure. Good Luck!

    what oil is that 3w 50 or 5w 30?

    • @jungleking007Channel
      @jungleking007Channel  10 років тому

      It's 5w30. Be sure the the oil you are using conforms to the Dexos 1 specification or you risk voiding the warranty if it still applies. Basically saying, use a synthetic blend oil or better. If yours is like mine and has a turbocharger, use full synthetic. Even though the blend is okay, I would not risk taking a chance at the possibility of the small passages to and from the turbo getting clogged by sludge. Especially since the manufacturer has raised the change interval, stay protected and use the better oils. Mobil1 brand is the choice brand by GM but others like Valvoline, Castrol, Pennzoil, and Quaker State are just as good for protection and price. Do some research into the brands and the additives they use, and pick the one that fits your needs.

    where can i find a filter?

    • @jungleking007Channel
      @jungleking007Channel  10 років тому

      dyrandoms Most auto parts stores will be able to locate the right part. Have the VIN ready or at least year/make/model and engine size. Recommend going with OEM Parts. For GM this is ACDelco, but Wix is just as good if not better. Rarely do I go with off brand or house brand due to country of origin in many cases and sometimes questionable craftsmanship.
