And since in has a frequency spectrum (yes, with enough training, you can pitch your vocal fry up and down across more than an octave), then it has notes. Moreover, the vocal fry can be used to access lower extended registers than the typical chest register would allow: strohbass, chest-fry mix, subharmonic bass,... People's prejudices about vocal fry and its uses is a big part of the reasons why pop singers are so lacking when it comes to the 2nd and contraoctave. It's such a pity...
They really are. Being a baritone sometimes sucks because low notes don’t get lots of recognition in the industry. My range is E2-B4 in chest and I can mix up to an E5.
Check Mary Martin. Genuine trained lyric soprano with ease in the second octave and fully projected loud D3s. Melba Moore is another one. I got videos on both of them on my main channel.

And it makes singing for me not enjoyable anymore. This obsession people have with high note = good singer is beyond me. I go to a music school as I wanted to improve my singing. But all they do is giving me songs that are above my comfort zone, and when I ask to try singing it in a lower range they complain that "you'll never know without trying". Its exhausting to strain your throat every time you have to sing. I don't have to sing high to be a good singer tho, my voice is very good where its at. Take it or leave it.

That was subharmonic technique... it's sort of vocal fry but is supported in chest voice a 5th or an octave higher than the subharmonic. She is VERY good at it, too.

If you listen to her live performances even in old age you’ll hear her natural tessitura. Very similar voice by nature to Chaka Khan. Dark voiced soprano.
