The girl that played the pickpocket was a South Korean runway model who had never acted before this show. I'd say she might have a career as an actress. 😁 BTW, in the scene where she wins at marbles, the tears are real as she became totally wrapped up in the drama of the scene.

Meanwhile every time I click on it, I have to prepare myself for Gganbu. I've watched this show probably 20 times and every time I am certain I won't react...it still hits as if I watched it for the first time.

It's not a mistake. People should watch a show in the way that they enjoy it best. Being elitist about subs vs. dubs is dumb and the director of the movie himself has spoken out against that.

when it comes to anime and video games i always play in english, it's usually good, but this show has the worse english dub i've ever heard.
i guess with live action it's always gonna be more obvious, but even the voices are horrible in this show, even if the lip sync was perfect.

Correct. And they made the VIPs from the most powerful capitalistic society in the world. Think about what they're subtly saying. These capitalists from the US go to foreign countries and watch poor desperate people go against each other for generational money all for the VIP's entertainment. A lot of people missed that but this show is a huge critique about the capitalistic system and they use the biggest pushers of that system, the US, as the bad guys. And made sure to show the VIPs as fat, disgusting, and amoral.

It fascinated me how they made the games progressively force the players to kill...
    1. Red Light Green Light. You can work together but just get to the other side.
    2. Honeycomb. Work by yourself on a challenge.
    3. Tug of War. Work as a team, but you're directly killing another team.
    4. Marbles. Working with 1 other person, but 1 of you dies, you decide.
    5. Hopscotch/Glass Squares. They were pushing each other to rush to the other side or make a wrong choice and die anyway.
    6. Squid Game. They straight up kill each other.

During Gganbu in other reactions, I'd seen a number of people comment (reactors and viewers) that they thought it was obvious (some in retrospect) that player 1 was eliminated off screen so that was a give away of what was to come. But many people were treated the same, which I think was done intentionally so it wouldn't draw suspicion. That episode was brutal and just wrecked everyone.

Which was a weird connect for them to make, in my opinion.
I have seen some of those reactors too, and i always thought, they probably got spoiled, and tried to use it as an excuse for them not being surprised in the last episode.
Because Ali was shot off screen as well, in that very episode only a few moments before.

One thing I truly admire about the first season of Squid Game is its departure from the typical horror show or film formula, where the good guys are mere victims and the bad guys are one-dimensional characters. Instead, Squid Game presents us with lead characters who possess both flaws and strengths, and they have the agency to choose whether or not to participate in the game, although some players were manipulated into it. While the old man initially appears as a one-note villain, the show delves into the organization he belongs to, providing a unique perspective on his character.

When Sang-woo is lying in the bathtub drinking at the beginning of episode 2, he's not lighting a scented candle. He's lighting a fire, which is a type of coal used to light a stove, which causes a rapid increase in carbon dioxide levels and often leads to deaths while sleeping. It is often found in suicide attempts in the home or in cars.

It's funny you hit upon something with "He said anyone, you could go help". I read a theory somewhere that Gi-Hun lost the seventh game, and Il nam won. They bet that by midnight no one would help the drunk. But that wasn't the real game. The real game was a choice. Gi- Hun could be a Good Guy and go help the drunk himself, or he could spectate and be like the VIPs. So he lost.

Dalgona/honeycomb candy is a candy made from cooked sugar that is stirred until melted, than baking Soda is added to the sugar and is stirred vigorously until it becomes airy and then its poured out and once cooled a little bit a shape is pressed into it. Its has a light and airy texture. Alot of street vendors in korea sold them close to schools and children would play a game of trying to get the shape out and if you were able to the vendor would either give you that one for free or you would get an extra free one(depending on the vendor). Because of its texture its difficult to get the shape out without breaking it

Those candies are actually really easy to make yourself. Melt sugar (1/4 -1/2 c) in a small pan stirring constantly. Once melted add a small amount of baking soda (like 1/8 tsp) stir. Pour quickly onto parchment paper. Add another parchment paper to the top and press down with something flat. The bottom of pan would work then quickly press in a cookie cutter. Let cool. Take a few practice runs. Really satisfying once you get the hang. Works with white and brown sugar. I like the taste of brown myself and you can add vanilla extract, or peppermint extract just before the baking soda if desired.

Sangwoo was committing suicide in episode 2. I don't remember what the initial use for those bricks is, but Koreans committing suicide often use them. When burned, it releases toxic fumes, and you lose cosnciousness then die. So basically, Sangwoo's goal was to burn the brick, get drunk (see the soju bottles next to the tub), fall asleep because of the alcohol, and never wake up because of the brick suffocation. Not sure why he was fully dressed in a full bathtub though.

One thing to note also, and i forget how much was mentioned, but the games umm commissioner i guess, will add in an amount thats double or more of the total debt of all who are eliminated. Meaning thatbif one person hadva debt of say, 25,000 then the organizer would not only add that amount to the pot but double it or more. And weve just seen that over 50 percent of players have been eliminated, so thats already quiteva bit of money to win.

3:19:37 fun fact, the show was written before hunger games even came out, 4 years before in fact, also, hunger games was not an original idea, it was in fact taken from other works that had done the same thing before, it just became the most popular thing however, so most only know hunger games and nothing else

Judging how some players were looking around but didn't run, I'm assuming that "don't move" means do not move from your spot. However that's negated as some people do get taken out for moving a limb, later on. I think breathing is seen as okay though. Not sure what the exact parameters are, though.
