What Stellantis really needed was a small sporty car sort of like the Neon. Priced cheap as an entry level car. What they built was the Hornet something NO one wanted.
They should have built a "New Performance Car" in the 3500lb range about BMW M4 size with the 500hp Hurricane Motor. And called it something else. Hornet, Cuda, Dart, Neon, etc...
They should’ve went for reliable light off roader instead of sporty Alfa Romeo garbage
Alfa is stylish but reliability is horse manure grade same with Stellantis

They did nothing with that money. A New more efficient Hemi, no. The Next Chrysler 300...no. The Next Durango..no. They can't even get the Six Cylinder Charger out. Then Stellantis says, uh you can have our cheapest Alfa and call it a Dodge. They fumbled the Ball. And Carlos and Stellantis has no Clue about the American Market. It's amazing...

Literally every Mopar guy on youtube I’ve ever heard talk about the hornet, has said they’re overpriced garbage, and not to buy. I think at this point I’m convinced.
Think about this for a second. Dodge is currently struggling to sell any car other than the Durango. The Hornet isn't selling because it's too expensive, and too unknown and those who know it know it's too unreliable. Their transitioning to EV's in hopes of salvaging the brand - but they're doing it at the worst possible time. Tesla just upped the range on the Model Y to 320 miles and started offering 0.99% financing - meaning people can get a Model Y for 37K after the tax credit with 0.99% financing. You think Dodge is really going to be able to compete with a brand that will do whatever it takes to move metal, including dynamically changing the price and offering insane finance deals?

You’ve hit the nail on the head. If I’m spending $28k-$45k for a crossover or compact SUV, I’m buying a Toyota RAV4. Maybe even a RAV4 Hybrid. I don’t know what’s going on with some of the other UA-cam Influencer who are suddenly singing the Hornet’s praises. For me, it’s not the Hornet’s styling that would hold me back from purchasing such a vehicle. It is the price $$$. I could see mid $20k’s for a Hornet. Maybe low to mid $30k’s for an upper trim level Hornet. No way I could justify paying what Dodge has the Hornet priced at. I don’t know who set the pricing for the Hornet, but they apparently did not do their research on this particular segment. If the Hornet was priced in the $20k’s, Dodge probably would not be able to keep them on the lots. The Hornet is probably okay for what it is…a low level crossover/compact SUV. The Hornet is not in the same league as the RAV4, Honda CR-V, Subaru Outback or Forrester. At the current pricing, I see Dodge Dealers sitting on these for a while.

They tried to make the Hornet cover too many bases, and it does nothing good.
If they took out the turbo, put in a four cylinder, lower it, offer it in FWD only, limited options, cut the price down to make it an affordable throw away economy car. Then it might be something. 🤷🏻

I've seen 3 in my neck of the woods in the US Northeast. One was being driven by the owner of the dealership. The second was being gassed up by a salesman. The 3rd, went by me on the road and I didn't know who was driving it.

I just almost rented one of these. I must confess, I was pretty excited about being able to try one out, as I’d had my eye on these when they were first coming out. I was surprised to see a couple available as rental vehicles. And it was one of the RT Hybrid ones, too. But I got in it, and the infotainment screen wouldn’t turn on. I turned the car off & on several times, but it never came on, so I never drove it off the lot. Ended up with a Toyota Highlander.
They can be fun for a few mins, but certainly not a car to own! Not surprised by the infotainment issues you experienced. Lots of jeep wagoners and cherokees having that problem too

Yo my demon 170 was a big ol piece of crap. Trunk light didn't work from day one, the latch wasnt grounded, i fixed myself. The door handles unlatched at the very very top, sometimes not at all, i adjusted as much as i could but they still sometimes didnt work. Steering wheel crooked, steering wheel also had the strangest pop that was intermittent. The window when the door would open would also pop. It has a bizarre hesitation when shifting to second gear almost like i had let off the gas right when it was shifting. It idled at 900-1000 rpm dont know if thats normal for that car or not. It held gears FOREVER before shifting, im talking 30-45 seconds before shifting if i let off the gas. This car would sit at 4000 rpm and just not upshift for a very long time. My street is about 1/2 mile long and id play with it when i turned in then let off the gas around 40mph and it would just sit at 3500-4000 almost the whole trip down the street.
The car felt cheap from the moment you tried to open the door. It was insanely fun to drive but wow what a piece.

Man I rented that Rav4. It has that CVT transmission. It's surprisingly fast. Toyota pound4pound best car company, and company. They Run so efficient with less waste actually teach unorganized businesses and companies how to be like them. They offer a class as called KaiZen.
They had the same 4 piston brake set up for almost the past 20 years from the Tundra Lexus LS 400 4runner Land cruiser ect..

I beg to differ there. Racer X has not "trashed" the Hornet. He hasn't even had a chance to try one like Demonology or Butter. Hell... Racer X hasn't talked about the hornet in a little bit. I get it. Everyone is pissed off at Dodge. I'm not too happy about where things are going, either. That said, all the pissing and moaning in the world isn't going to magically change things with Stellantis and Dodge. Vote with your wallets instead. I'm not happy the Hemi is gone. I'm not happy that the Challenger is gone. I'm not even happy about all this EV crap either… You can thank the current person in office for that... That said, I can't personally speak about the Hornet as I've not actually been in one... I get it, though. It's out of the norm, and the future seems really abysmal for Dodge. All we can do is see what the future holds… As for right now… it's not looking too great.

I get where you're coming from, and the Hornet isn't exactly for everyone. It's not even for me, but it's really not necessary to drag Demonology and Racer X and anybody else's name through the mud. You could have just stuck to "UA-camrs".

@@WIDEBODYNATION I get it. Ultimately, it's up to the potential buyer to decide for themselves. After all, no one is forcing anyone at gunpoint to buy the Hornet. If a customer tries it, likes it, then it's all good for them. If not, then that's a lesson learned. Maybe it makes more sense to just lease one, IMO.. I'm not saying that the Hornet is going to be a good car. I'm not saying it's going to be a bad car. It's too damn new for anyone to get an idea what the long term reliability of the Hornet is going to be.
I love how Ford and other brands are not only keeping their V8 and V10 engines, but expanding upon them. Stellantis missed the boat entirely. Released an EV nobody wanted and at the worst possible time, meanwhile axing the bread winners of Dodge i.e, Charger, Challenger and 300. Oh but Autonation and Lithia Motors are going to walk if they cannot sell any Ev Chargers upon release. So, this whole thing makes it seem very deliberate. That French POS is running Dodge out and i would be surprised if they didn't go under before the release of Inline 6-Which should have been released first not later next year. If we can realize this, bet your ass the big wigs do and so do their investors.
