My wife was not happy to hear that Dodge wasn't making the Journey anymore (she loves the Journey, is on her 3rd one). I've been trying to get her to consider a Hornet as a suitable replacement. This video might help her with that. The only thing I don't like (and I see this with many cars today) is that info-tainment display on the dash looking unfinished. They all always look like someone has just propped a tablet up on the dash instead of finding a stylish way incorporate it into the dash.
No transmission option is a big one for me. Would it really be that hard to offer an optional manual? Id buy one as my daily and pay extra for a 6 speed manual. If they wanted to appeal to enthusiasts that would have been an excellent move.
That Hornet is a cute little car. I didn't realize it was an Alfa Romeo. I am glad I bought a 2023 Camaro ZL1 M6 in February. Everyone has their own dreams on what they want to drive.
Love the 80's Turbo Dodges and hope this shows respect to those like the Chargers and Challengers did to the 60's and 70's Dodges. Can't wait to see the GLH version.
They have the 1.5L turbo front electric rear Hornet RT hybrid 350hp 350lb ft for 39,900. Its a rebadged Alfa Tonale from Stelantis so the GT for 29,900 w 2.0L hurricane 4 is a steal. Im in.
The GLH won't have the hurricane inline-6 because that's designed for RWD platforms...the Hornet/Tonale is based loosely on the FWD platform of the Jeep Compass...the transverse engine layout gives that away. GLH model's won't be a separate trim of the Hornet....instead it will be more like an option package on top of your choice of either the GT or R/T....think graphics, lowering springs, badges, wheels, and stage 1&2 tunes from direct connection. P.S the stage tunes will be done on the hurricane inline-4 engines adding 20-30hp with each stage (insider news)
I’ve got a hornet gt similar to the one you drove, & no it doesn’t have the paddle shifters but the gear shifter in sport will allow you to shift up & down close to a standard would. Really think this vehicle is gonna be fun and yet practical
I hope dodge gets the electrical issues figured out. Tfl already had a major fault just from a slip test, it made it completely go into limp mode and Tim even knows about the issue he said it’s pre build issues but not a great sign sadly cuz I really considered getting one of these.
There were no real issues with the car, the car they tested was pre-production, they even stated that before the video starts. The fact that they managed to do that type of test in the first place was stupid on their part.… those preproduction cars get crushed later on
And they did a follow up video on that same car at with the Dodge engineer. The transparency and professionalism is the main thing to note. Check that video out if you haven't on TFL channel.
No way they can fit an inline 6 in that engine bay. The GLH is supposed to be the full ev version as per Dodges promotion of the line up. EV's are really fast so the GLH designation makes sense.
This will sell like crazy! It is based on the 2018-up Jeep Compass! Dodge needed to be a full line division, like it used to be...All class of cars, suv's,TRUCKS and vans! Bring RAM back into Dodge!!
We’ve been with Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler for YEARS. It looks nice, idk about it being a dodge, maybe a new face lifted jeep compass. If feels like they just wanted to add a new dodge car due coming out with 1 new eMuscle and losing a slot.
I just got a 23 GT Alcapoca Gold. I just hit 500 miles on and a few issues. My radar from the day I got it needs to be replaced, ETA for part 2/26. Shifting from 1st to 2nd is fairly rough, its got a decent kick to throw my head back if not looking for it. And just tonight, while driving to get some food, all my dash lights went real dim until I stopped than it went back to normal lighting. The car gets up and goes with the turbo and love getting up and going on the interstate. Cant wait for it to get warm out and get out more often with it.
Though I prefer sedans, domestics just aren't making them anymore. While the Alfa Romeo fans are really upset that Dodge got this as it takes the thunder away from the Tonale, I understand its business. Every one Stellantis sells means more work for the factory that makes them and more profit for Stellantis. That means every Hornet sale helps keep more Alfas and Maseratis on the road in the future. I own a Giulia and I'd buy the Hornet over the Tonale because the Hornet looks more muscular AND I prefer the simplicity of the 2.0T drivetrain over the PHEV-only option in the Tonale. You can clearly see the "Alfa" in the Hornet interior----far above what you'd ever typically see in an American-designed Dodge, and it will handle well because Alfa never makes a vehicle that doesn't handle well. I think once "Dodge people" get their hands on the Hornet, get over their initial reluctance over its Italian origin, they'll see it is a great option for a fun, high-quality, everyday useful CUV that won't break the bank.
I mean for a small SUV, I like the look of the Hornet. I would MUCH rather get the pure ICE GT trim over the dinky hybrid R/T. More stuff to go wrong in my opinion
RacerX. Here's information regarding the Hornet GLH. It's a PHEV hybrid Road & Track shows MSRP can exceed $53,000 The PHEV powertrain of the Hornet R/T GLH combines a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine with an rear axle-mounted e-motor, producing an impressive combined output of 288 horsepower and 383 lb. -ft. of torque. Thanks for the ride along
Got to Drive one at MOPARS AT THE STRIP. Very Mixed. Front seat is comfortable with the slight bolster. It is almost like a Turbo Dart on Steroids. And I'm sure every Trim and Individual vehicle will all have a hodge poge of different options. Rear seats are not contoured very well and a tight fit. Fast enough to get out of its own way but .... Unfortunatly for Dodge. It's a bit weak. An All-Wheel Drive Turbo I-6 would be a Blast. Until then, It's just a Grocery Getter with a cool Hornet Emblem. JMO
Turbos work wonders. Slightly modified 87 grand national 3.8 liter would smoke a scat and be about the same as a cat in the quarter without touching the engine. Modern turbo and cheap bolt ons from the 90s. I got it back in about 2000 for 8k and could have (many others have) would smoke a demon with bolt ons only. A modern version of the 4ish liter turbo 6 would be a monster.
lol I don't remember GNs running 125 mph in 1/4 mile with light upgrades. 108 to 116mph with typical upgrades. Big upgrades would get you to the Tens at 120+mph
RacerX, I had a chance to check out the Hornet GT Plus. The GT Plus had leather seats and more of the creature comforts like the power seats, power liftgate, and wireless charger in the cubby that was mentioned in your video.. Unfortunately, I was not able to test drive it, but I do agree with you that it is perfect for the daily commuter with some pazazz.
I was surprised by this thing when I did the pdi on it. It's comfortable, sporty handling, and decently fast. Got nervous when I went to set the language and it was in Italian. Luckily it wasn't hard to do. It drives itself if you have the package for all the assists. Kinda cool, but I'd turn it off if I had one.
I think that seems a pretty good deal. Question will be, how dependable will it be over the first 5 years of its life. Plus add in that it is a first year model. Dodge needs a high volume model other than the RAM. I don't know of many base model compact SUV's with nearly 300 hp. If they can keep the quality high, then they have something here that will appeal to the masses. They can't be failing with a high volume vehicle like they've done repeatedly throughout their history. Latest one was the Dart that loved to burn oil.
I would like to see a hornet gt vs a charger or challenger gt. The fact that it could beat a v6 means the end of the pentastar. For those with a v6 who think they’re fast would be completely be embarrassed by a midsized suv
Well, they are smart to make the car base at $30,000. One of the reasons I feel the Dart failed was, it was too expensive out of the box when it was first introduced. I’m fine with Dodge making every day vehicles. That’s part of their history as well. However, I am not fine with them getting rid of the charger/challenger.
It also failed out of the box because it was initially only offered with a 6-speed manual transmission at first until they were able to get the 6-speed automatic out the door. It was also a very shitty 6-speed manual as well. I know because I owned one and I thought that it was the worst shifting manual transmission I've ever had.
They're not getting rid of ice Challenger and charger... the war on ICE is do to the current "Administration". ("Legitimate") elections have consequences.
Alfa Romeo makes great paddle shifters, some of the best and one of the only brands that puts them on the steering column as they should be. So, hopefully the more powerful models get those along with the hurricane 6 engine, flared fenders and wider wheels. That would be a true GLH 😂
hey Racer X - since you're "impressed" with the Alpha Romeo with the Dodge hubcaps, when are you going to start reviewing Toyota Corollas' and the "hot new cars" from Hundai?
“And then of course right here, volume up and down”. The volume for the stereo is next the the shifting gear?😂 love how causal he said that for a not so normal position
The Alpha Hornet is manufactured in the same facility in Italy that the Alpha Romeo is built. The Hornet is nothing more that a re-badged Alpha. It will more than likely have the same problems as the Alpha.
Paddle shifters I think are so dumb in a non manual cars. All they do is make people ruin their transmission 10x faster so I'm glad they didn't put them in. The actual exterior of the car looks pretty damn nice it almost reminds me of the lambo suv and Lexus which I think look very nice. This would make a good small family car or something someone wants to get that isn't extremely pricey but still has nice features and decent speed.
Doesn’t look bad at all! I’ve read in several automotive publications that in terms of reliability, the Alfa Romeo Tonale (Dodge Hornet) is too new to have been featured in the 2022 reliability survey but as a brand, Alfa Romeo did badly, coming in 29th out of the 32 manufacturers included. That's below all the rivals and only Fiat, Land Rover and Jeep did worse.
Most of those reliability studies are regurgitated propaganda from Consumer Reports.......What I have found if you maintain your vehicles the way you are supposed to the less issues that will arise down the road....You would be surprised on how many people drive their cars all over Hell's Acres with their dashboard lit up like Macy on Christmas Eve for months on end and when the vehicle fails or breaks down they blame the manufacturer for their own stupidity. I bet the Alfa issue problems lie in the lack of dealership networks so it becomes hard to maintain their vehicles. Dodge has well over 2200 dealers in the US Alfa only has 134 Nationwide.
Hornet will never beat or replace my Durango but good video! This vehicle will get Dodge in the market it needs to be in to make money to produce the fun cars!!
If you knew anything about Alfa products (you don't), you'd know they offer some of the best paddle shifters in the industry and that they come on the higher trim levels of the Hornet (and Tonale). Muscle car guys don't understand smaller, less powerful vehicles or what most cars offer for $30k.
@@rlsedition I just bought a Chrysler 300 for that price. The 3.6 is quick and got over 30 mpg on the way home. I did shop and get a bargain from a dealer I was willing to travel for.
@@rogerrussell9544 Not a great example you used, given that the 300 is no longer being produced and dealers will want to move that inventory. Also, the 300 is several sizes larger than the Hornet/Tonale and target an entirely different market.
@@rlsedition You asked and I told you. It's a good example since it's the 9th new Chrysler product for me since 2007, I'm a typical loyal Mopar guy and after seeing what was sitting at the dealer I got more for less with a more traditional model, one not corrupted by Stellantis. And yes, I did sit in a Hornet and didn't like it for reasons Stellantis would never understand, I'm only an American you know....
The Hornet will sale well for one good reason. All the other SUVs are going electric and nobody wants electric. Electric or high output straight 4? Which would you chose?
The current Canadian base is almost $40,000 including discounts. I would like to see a 6 cylinder performance version. It might be more difficult to maintain but it would fly.
It’s sad to say cause I agree but almost everyone is going to sub compact to the point where it’s like find one u like cause sports car are basically done except for corvette.
The hornet weighs like 4,000 pounds? At least the hybrid does? Hope the GLH does what the name implies? My 1985 modified Omni GLH Turbo was an amazing 12 second sleeper?
That 9 speed is gong to save it. My Quadcab Dakota weighs in at 4750, if it had the ZF 8spd rather than the OEM 545rfe I'd get 25mpg all day with the 3.55 gear thats in it.
With the pricing and interest rates where they are it might be one of the better chances for a person to put their behind in the seat of a new car. I love muscle cars, big v-8's etc but having a practical alternative is never a bad thing. Smaller cars can be just as fun to drive in their own way.
Looks great. If I were looking for family car... I'd consider it. But I have one those. Looking for muscle and Dodge no longer has it. Great content, as always Racer!
I had a 74 Hornet it was a great car. I was hoping this might be a little bigger. Wish it came with a sunroof. Like Racer X said tough to find vehicles under 50,000 dollars these days.
Hey RacerX what's going on with this channel? I subscribed because/when you were posting drag videos with your Hellcat and got a little disappointed when you got your Mustang and rarely showed any performance footage. Now it seems most of your content is being a salesman for Dodge. I get it - they probably pay you a nice chunk of change but honestly, talking about badges and stitching is pretty boring stuff. I sure hope you return to your roots soon
One thing i dont get about the hate is the fact that people assume Dodge is a pure performance brand... Dodge isn't ferrari, look not even a decade in the past and you have things like the Grand Caravan, Journey, Nitro, Neon, Dart.... not exactly performance.
True, but compared to almost all other cars in its class -- compact, gas powered crossovers -- the Hornet 2L turbo IS a performance car in its own right. The only competitor that comes close is the Mazda CX5.
You don't get Mopar. It isn't just about the muscle but the long lasting powertrain. I'd stack a 1969 383 against any small highly stressed 4 cylinder turbo for durability. For what the dealers charge for repairs and parts I would avoid this not just new, but as a cheap used car in a few years.

Hey Jack enjoy that ZL1 👍🏻
Your videos are so crystal clear it’s ridiculous, bravo. Oh good review too…lol
I thought I sent the last one of those to the junkyard, back in the 90s.
Too bad it's not made by Dodge Alfa Romero make sure you got a lot of spare parts and tools to fix that Heap
Absolute junk 😂😂😂
Love the 80's Turbo Dodges and hope this shows respect to those like the Chargers and Challengers did to the 60's and 70's Dodges. Can't wait to see the GLH version.

Great video RacerX, that's not quite my cup of tea, but it is nice looking and not a bad price either.
Enjoyed this review , was straight up and honest!
😊awesome video Racer x as always thanks 😊
It's cool, but I want to see what the GLH/RT can do! Great review Racer X!
Why? Any car up to $4 million has limitations, and for a few more million, it still can be 'better'.
@@ThisOldMan-ya472 I would assume to kind of see what power/features it offers. GLH sounds like it would be an intriguing trim but we dont know.
They have the 1.5L turbo front electric rear Hornet RT hybrid 350hp 350lb ft for 39,900. Its a rebadged Alfa Tonale from Stelantis so the GT for 29,900 w 2.0L hurricane 4 is a steal. Im in.
@@che2335 the rt has a 1.3 hybrid and only has 286 hp with a power shot from the electric motor that gives extra power
That turd will never replace my charger !!!!!!
The turbo 4 Camaro and Mustang easily beat the GT charger/challenger too. These 4 cyls are no joke.
How you liking it so far man?
It’s a bit smaller than my last suv, but so far it’s pretty solid. Over 2100 miles on it, & so far the whole power train is far better than the other.
The glh will probably have the 2.0t hybrid system in it from wrangler. 375 hp and 475 ft lbs.
The fact that they managed to do that type of test in the first place was stupid on their part.… those preproduction cars get crushed later on
Its a rebadged Alfa Romeo Tonale, its going to be interesting to see how reliable it will be.
I want one. It’s beautiful
Did you ever buy a Dodge Hornet?
I hope this vehicle succeeds I like it and am thinking about going and checking them out my self
Good points, all.
Lmao the radio playing glorilla is funny 😭😭
I mean for a small SUV, I like the look of the Hornet. I would MUCH rather get the pure ICE GT trim over the dinky hybrid R/T. More stuff to go wrong in my opinion
RacerX. Here's information regarding the Hornet GLH. It's a PHEV hybrid Road & Track shows MSRP can exceed $53,000
The PHEV powertrain of the Hornet R/T GLH combines a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine with an rear axle-mounted e-motor, producing an impressive combined output of 288 horsepower and 383 lb. -ft. of torque. Thanks for the ride along
⚡Damn⚡ don't sound too bad for a little Ride like this😆 that would be fun 🍀get R done 😎✌️
Keep telling yourself that 😂
RacerX, I had a chance to check out the Hornet GT Plus. The GT Plus had leather seats and more of the creature comforts like the power seats, power liftgate, and wireless charger in the cubby that was mentioned in your video.. Unfortunately, I was not able to test drive it, but I do agree with you that it is perfect for the daily commuter with some pazazz.
It’s a sporty looking keep compass ;)
I wonder if this going to have a shortcoming just like the Dodge Dart did a few years back😅
We can only hope
at least the dart was Actually somewhat good and kinda reliable the hornet failed that one test badly
Just depends on if it has any major issues for the price it’s not bad for a suv
Shortcoming? hah. Dart sold pretty well.
Dodge almost made an SRT-4 Dart but canceled on it.
I truly don't believe a twin turbo in line 6 will fit in that little car. Fun to think about, tho.
Damn that kinda nice. I might have to test drive one
Agreed
Great review! I think im gona wait until the R/T and the GLH come out to go test drive one...I've been waiting on those particular editions
I would like to see a hornet gt vs a charger or challenger gt. The fact that it could beat a v6 means the end of the pentastar. For those with a v6 who think they’re fast would be completely be embarrassed by a midsized suv
This is a rebadged Alfa Romeo SUV that engine will die b4 100k miles and have the same issues as any AR.pentastar is a bulletproof tank

("Legitimate") elections have consequences.
im saving to buy me a HORNET GT Blacktop with all the extras 😊
Alfa Romeo makes great paddle shifters, some of the best and one of the only brands that puts them on the steering column as they should be. So, hopefully the more powerful models get those along with the hurricane 6 engine, flared fenders and wider wheels. That would be a true GLH 😂
hey Racer X - since you're "impressed" with the Alpha Romeo with the Dodge hubcaps, when are you going to start reviewing Toyota Corollas' and the "hot new cars" from Hundai?
Sorry, wrong continent.
Honestly am thinking about leasing one so I can take miles off my Hellcat! Anyone have any bad experience with the Hornet GT?
It is a nice vehicle. A customer last night had one and we have to open and close the trunk several times to get the sign to turn off.
Coming soon to a Hertz rental fleet near you.
“And then of course right here, volume up and down”. The volume for the stereo is next the the shifting gear?😂 love how causal he said that for a not so normal position
I think that's more for the use of the passenger, since the driver has volume buttons on the steering wheel.
The Alpha Hornet is manufactured in the same facility in Italy that the Alpha Romeo is built. The Hornet is nothing more that a re-badged Alpha. It will more than likely have the same problems as the Alpha.
First, it's "Alfa", not Alpha. What "problems" are you referring to?
It's not 1984 anymore. Just letting you know. In case you missed it.

This is why I wouldn’t consider them. Alfa’s reliability and longevity are terrible.
An unreliable car is nothing but headaches.
I would never trust the reliability survey
@@mcnuggetapple why not? I’ve always heard & read about Alfa Romeo having terrible reliability issues. I’ll pass on the Alfa/Hornet.

If you knew anything about Alfa products (you don't), you'd know they offer some of the best paddle shifters in the industry and that they come on the higher trim levels of the Hornet (and Tonale). Muscle car guys don't understand smaller, less powerful vehicles or what most cars offer for $30k.

With the pricing and interest rates where they are it might be one of the better chances for a person to put their behind in the seat of a new car. I love muscle cars, big v-8's etc but having a practical alternative is never a bad thing. Smaller cars can be just as fun to drive in their own way.
