Boys….that was a joy to watch from start to finish. From ‘Angry Joel loading' to Tjay’s over excited commentary to Joe’s ‘Monumental fuck up' i thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. Cracking video, they keep getting better. Roll on Cadwell!
Nice to watch your videos in the process myself of turning a standard R53 into a weekend track toy see you at cadwell my local track 👍🏻..oh keep up the good work !
That is 100% a warped disc so glad to hear you're getting them skimmed before the next outing. To stop it happening again I'd recommend cooling, just ripping out the front arch liners would help, but the JDH customs kit is what you really want. Also I think you're still 'road braking' and what I mean by that is you're holding the brakes on a constant pressure for quite a while. Fine on the road, but on track this can overheat the discs and warp them. What you want to get used to on track is absolutely stand on the brakes at first then try to get off the brakes as quickly and progressively as you can. So long as your ABS is working of course, I thought it was very brave doing a few laps without it. Overall though great video and good to show what handling mods can do for lap time. If any of your are free on the 26th April, come to Castle Combe and look for a red R53 race car ;)
Yeah we had to, was quite unnerving! We’ve cut a hole through the arch liner and removed the fog lights for abit of make do cooling but definitely want to do a spot of ducting in the future. To be fair we’re not sure if it’s road braking or maybe karting braking, we’ve all raced karts for 20 years so maybe the stamp on turn in approach isn’t helping, obviously a lot more weight to contend with than karts! We are looking to get an OBD reader for some more detailed telemetry! We were willing to give anything a try at that point! Thanks Steve, glad you enjoyed it! We wanted to see the difference in handling mods before we go adding more power, it will be interesting to see what combined power and handling will achieve! To be fair Castle Combe is only about 100 miles away so not to much of a journey!
Same brake kit on mine. I found that it was badly needing cooling and also better pads that don't leave so much on the discs and also the discs were warping. So opted for Cryogenic treated discs to harden the and have not had any problems since. Cryo treated discs sold by orranje. Great video and lap times hope to catch you at a track this year with mine. 👍
They are brilliant, from what we can tell through the juddering 😂 We will be looking into cooling once we have sorted the juddering issue, we are getting the discs skimmed to start with and a new set of pads. But if we still have the issue after, will definitely look into the discs you have recommended . Thanks Mate 🙏🏻
Great video guys! Other than the brakes it seems like the car held up well over a lot of laps. What mods have you done to the car im terms of power upgrades? E.g. intake, supercharger pulley, intercooler, colder plugs, injectors, headers, decat, catback exhaust? Apologies if I've missed this information in another video.
Cheers buddy, glad you enjoyed it! Yeah it’s shocked us to be fair at how well it’s been holding up! So at the minute power wise it’s completely stock, other than a K&N panel filter and a random cat back exhaust that we don’t even know the brand of 😂 We have got a few bits in the shed that will be changing that soon though 😉 No need to apologise mate, we did a video of the entire cost of the build so far which had everything we could think of on!
Trying not to to cheat a look at the other comments but I recon 2.10 but could go a little lower is the conditions are good. Going to settle down now with a cuppa and watch the track day unfold. Hope the upgrades make a positive difference.
Well I wasn't far away with my guess of 2.10 an no cheating I promise. From the look of the car, even as its set up now I think one if not all of you could break the 2.08 mark easily with a few more laps under your belts. It's a shame you had the brake judder, I hope you manage to get that sorted soon. Confidence in the brakes will 100% boost your lap times. I think I'd still further increase the ride height at least another 10mm to stop that scraping. The dynamic between you is good too see, I wish I had some buddies like you three to help with my car. Anyway great video as usual, can't wait for the next installment.
You were very close! 😂 Was a cold day and obviously the brakes were playing up, I think on a warmer day and no judder easily a low 2.08 high 2.07 in it! To be fair the scraping had stopped when there was one of us in the car just meant we can’t take a passenger, think some new coilovers will stop that though, as we are ending up like a monster truck 😂 Being best mates for 20 years with the same interests always helps! Appreciate the support and feedback mate! Glad you enjoyed 👍🏻
Wheel spacers may help too. Even if you replace the coilovers the ride height is still going to be a problem unless you have really stiff springs. Stiff springs will affect the grip level and cause the car to bounce an lose traction if you’re not careful. I’d play with ride heights first before you spend on more suspension. I know you don’t want it to look like a monster truck, like yourselves I prefer the lowered look but this is a track car and traction a ride are more important in my opinion. It really shows that you’re all good friends and have been for a long time. Keep up whatever you’re all doing, it just works.
Might have missed it, what tyres are you on and what size? And do you know your offset? I find 205s on the front, with (I think) 10mm spacers fits just nicely while missing the coilovers and only very slightly burning through the outer arch on corner compression (paddock hill bend for example). Might be able to squeeze 215s in! Tbf actually now I think about it, I am running 15"s on track so you might not get away with that on 17s that fit over the brembos.
We are on Nankang NS2-R’s at the moment. Will be an area of the car that we will improve when we can afford, they are in a 215/45/17, they work well to be fair with the large offset that we have, the main problem is the coil overs compress way to much due to the soft spring rate and almost non existent dampening! Makes it hard to carry a passenger with us! Smaller wheels may also be an option at some point!
We were very surprised by pace the car had with its current setup and standard motor! .. absolutely no issues to report with the bushes so far, they are holding up very well! 👍🏻
We usually go out for around 6-8 laps all being well each session, but we tend to push it a little bit as there is three of us sharing the car we don’t tend to have time to let the car cool down for as long as we probably should do!
How do you find the stock intercooler? I track mine all the time and I run airtek but I hate the fitment so I have just gone back to stock intercooler def has more boost!
We’ve had absolutely no problems at all with intake temps and we’ve been hammering it constantly all day on track! The only thing is we’re not sure how it will fair when we do a cam and other engine mods, we may well change then! But we’ll see!
@@BPMDevelopments I have cam, injectors etc dynode 248 bhp I have gone back to stock intercooler I hate the fitment on the airtek I’m sure I will get some heat soak! Main thing i noticed it your oil temp will be insane without a oil cooler!
@@Jonathan-qz9kd We are far off them power figures currently! 😂 We’ve read online that the stock intercooler isn’t actually any worse than most aftermarket but never actually tried anything, apparently the JCW/GP1 one is the best option but getting up towards £1k for second hand 😂 Yeah the oil light came on for some reason, may well be the oil was too hot and starting to get funky, will be something we are looking into soon!
@@BPMDevelopments that or you cooked the sensor they do fail on the oil filter housing. I run a front mount oil cooler you can make your own up with kits off eBay if your handy!

Thanks Lee! Are you heading down on the Mini weekend there? Hopefully see you there! Cheers mate!
I'm building a r56 track car cadwell is my local track aswell
Great video guys! Thanks for some quality R53 content!
Cheers Brendan! Glad you enjoyed 👍🏻
This is a great watch and the commentary is hilarious 😂. Well done guys.
Cheers Ady 😂 We got abit excitable 😂

Great times lads. All that work paying off.
Yes definitely! A few more planned for this year as well, hopefully the car keeps going without giving us to much grief 😅
Best R53 video I've ever seen. Loved it.
Thanks John! Really appreciate that! Glad you enjoyed!
awesome video lads! can really see the confidence grow through the video
Thanks Mate, confidence has improved massively since we were that last year also!

Great vid, watching on the way to Valencia!! ✌🏻
Make sure you don’t tire Joe out to much this week 😉😂
Good stuff lads 👍Love Oulton Park
Cheers! One of the best tracks in the country in our opinion! And our doorstep 🏁
Great video again! What app are you using for track timings?
Thanks Gav! We use a app called Race Chrono, it’s available on iOS and Android!
21:10 proper rant 😂😂
😂😂 If there was an award for the shortest temper, Joel would definitely be a top nominee 😂
Awesome video. Keep it up.

First time watching. Do you have an Lsd installed. I have a Quaife diff def transform that beast
No mate still rocking the standard diff, looking at the “LSD” one off a chilli pack in the future or maybe something a bit spicier 🌶️
I think youd be able to get a 2:14 with a tasty lap. How are the Godflex bushings holding up so far?
We were very surprised by pace the car had with its current setup and standard motor! .. absolutely no issues to report with the bushes so far, they are holding up very well! 👍🏻
How many laps do you normally do before letting it cool down? Got my first track day in donnington coming up
We usually go out for around 6-8 laps all being well each session, but we tend to push it a little bit as there is three of us sharing the car we don’t tend to have time to let the car cool down for as long as we probably should do!
Do a cooldown lap - just one at donny is enough - (try to avoid using brakes too much) when you come in - and don't use the handbrake when you stop!
How do you find the stock intercooler? I track mine all the time and I run airtek but I hate the fitment so I have just gone back to stock intercooler def has more boost!

Watching from San Diego
Stay classy John 😉
What phone holder do you use?
Just a cheap one that you get off a tripod that we nut and bolted to the metal plate we made to cover the radio hole mate
When’s the cadwell date,,
Sunday, 2nd June mate, should be a good day out!
Maybe get some round wheels......or just balance the tires....lol.
Haha, they were freshly fitted/ balanced before the track day, but it certainly felt like they weren’t round then on the brake’s 😅
*Bump :)*
We will be putting a Mini vid on soon we promise 😂 Apologies it’s been a while!
Christ, I could walk around Alton park faster 😂
😂😂 We’ll race ya 😉
