I borrowed this 485S from Caterham for the weekend, and have enjoyed a couple of awesome laps so far :) Caterham 485S supplied by www.caterham.de...
"Straight roads are for fast cars, turns are for fast drivers." -Colin McRae.
Nice drive Caterham!
idk why people quote this like a deep thing, that's pretty damn obvious
Pretty sure someone yelled "no shit sherlock" when Colin McRae said this lol
Kelvin Levigott a think it is not obvious, some people believe that the skills are in the engine.
Pablo Andrés And helicopters are for crashing. R.I.P. Colin.
allan gill ehhhhh, that was just dumb dumb comment ...
"Adding power makes you faster on the straights, removing weight makes you faster everywhere." Colin Chapman - Looks like all Colins are suited to make good quotes !
I've driven one of those Caterhams, I remember two things: 1) the constant desire to hang the ass out at at every corner 2) the reaction time required to do it successfully with your ass hanging somewhere around the back axle. I had a great time driving it and spinning it, but you have some proper talent there. Good work.
There's an error in the title. "Caterham 485S & Giant Dickwad in McLaren 650S on the Nurburgring" There, fixed it for ya!
mikegrotting found the McLaren driver
@mikegrotting your car sucks if you have to turn the steering wheel....
Alright then.
Driving at 140 plus, shifting gears like a madman and gesticulating at the McLaren driver wihile narrating a YT movie like Jackie Stewart. Just awesome!
As much as I love a supercar, you can't ignore how capable these caterhams are in comparison. All for £30k compared to £100k
What game is this ?
The graphics are amazing !! !
The AI is a bit junky though.
Definetly not granturismo, othewise he would be using those guardrails to corner at full speed.
hultii it's gt6 go get one quick
hultii lmao
Assento Corsa 2 tech demo
Does the McLaren driver even know how 'racing line' is spelled?
Marcel Gross it's spelled " I just follow the lines of the corner"
Then kept the Caterham behind despite having a harder car to drive and it being his first lap
money cant buy talent unfortunately for the mclaren owner
is the car that cant do it at over speed
Irrelevant, as it is illegal to follow any racing line on the Tourist drives on the ring. You are supposed to keep right and check your mirrors.
These lightweight relatively cheap track cars makes me amazed all the time...
Its soo satisfying to see these beating modern super/and exotic cars.nice vid!
Love how hard you then tried, opening up a gap before the fast bits 😂
That McLaren driver is downright dangerous and should not be permitted to drive on any circuit.
Nice example of "lots of money but zero skills".
That's the reason why people goes to Nuburgring, it's not a racetrack you can go on this circuit with every vehicle and without any racing license
Cla Max You mean without a racing license ? As far as I know the Nurburgring is considered public road ?
@@clamax919 Keine Rennerfahrung zu haben heißt aber nicht, dass ich jeden gefährden darf wie ich will. Dafür Unterschreibt man, bevor man auf den Nürburgring fährt.
Having no racing experience doesn't mean that I can endanger everyone as I want. For this you sign before you drive to the Nürburgring.
@@hw6639 a sign doesn't make u a safe pilot, it only make u a pilot who'll pay if necessary.
@@clamax919 Do you not want to understand it or you cannot understand it. I sign the applicable rules and have to obey them. It's really easy to understand. You don't have to shift empty words back and forth. The idot in the McLaren provoked. I am only talking about this video, not about any life wisdom.
I love those buttons for everything on the dashboard! I want my car like that too lol.
Great video of the best drivers car ever made
Marcel Pfister I thought maybe you were the driver!
Fast Caterhams are old-school versions of Miatas...with an extra 100hp and no ABS
proves you don't need a million bucks to be fast on the ring
Fnarr fnarr fnarr.
they need it not us..westfield mega with the s2000 vtec engine would kill that mclaren..and all that with 18.000-20.000
@i. rob then he step aside and leave the other ones that made a more accurate race buy to race..yes? no one cares if he cares a lot to not hit because he brought a very expensive car to race..i know what you mean but where is the gift of knowing from before what you buy and for what...imagine if you had the westfield s2000 supercharged at 360-400hp and to have to wait a cocky driver to let you pass on a day you pay to race..with your better choice of a gun
@@commantrosexetlos4700 What'sitweigh??
Or even have a brain LOL
90% of people don't know the racing line, they do what feels comfortable. You can drive very well, I'll give you that. Love that Caterham 485S. More videos please.
id assume that about 50% of people dont really bother to find the racing line, just sticking to the left at an ok speed
Caterham, smile guaranteed.
Finally a video of a caterham without windnoise👍🏻
Most of the caterham Guys dont have extentional mics and all you can hear is windnoise and nothing of that high reving 4banger...
And yea that McLaren didnt want to get overtaken, you see it more and more that the driver of a 'faster' car dont want to move over.i think its a ego-thing...
In the richt hands a caterham can be bloody quick.but on the ring they can be deadly in my opinion, dont want to see a high speed crasch of a super 7.....
Great driving, man! I always assume supercar drivers are bad drivers so I personally wouldn't try to lure them into a race, though; they will probably mess up under pressure and crash :|
Just realised I'm leaning into all the bends with him lmaooo
I love your video so much, i used to play video games on nurburgring with any car for almost 300 hours++, and now i use caterham 7 for 10 hours and start to find the video on youtube, and it so amazing, really fast on the corner, sounds good, and as you said, simple car but fast!!!
I’ve driven this on track and it is more fun that any car I’ve driven. I’d love to try the 620R, but I’m afraid it will be too scary.
Great driving. Smooth and precise.
i love this caterham its just amazing! so freaking fast!!
No, it is just quick.
@@worldhello1234 "Just quick"?
Caterham for me. All day every day
The first few corners after he gets past are so sick! (I don't normally use words like that, Im 48 yrs old, but in this case!) Right on the edge!! Awesome skills!
great video, your clearly having fun... and thats what the caterham is all about... if you have the skills to pedal them well!
Awesome driving Dale, you put him in his place with that
All that comes to mind when thinking about the Mclaren Driver is; "what a noob!"
Damn,i like how you correct that god damn over steering!!!
Great car, great drive bro! Keep it up!
@6:02 ... a bobby car, off. That suits your driving style :D The McLaren 650S is actually a good choice but the yuppie behind the wheel did not cut it.
how many revs does this car have? sounds amazing
8.800 rpm
Ruben Clavero s2000 engine blend nice with caterham chassis 😚
To be fair, if I was driving a 200k car as opposed to a 40k car, I'd be driving a lot more gingerly also.
@@dalmaximus not 40k..40k is the 620r
@@dalmaximus Then don't so such as try. Price is irrelevant, it's potentially you life on the line.
Your a sick driver in any car m8
this car killing it all
This proves that the component who’s most important level of performance of any car is the driver
Caterham must have the must unergonomic cockpit i've ever seen, with that button arrangement all of the same shape, size and color, the additional gauges offset oddly far to the right, indicators not making click-clack but beep-beep sounds, and so forth. The third brake light rearing its ugly head in the rear view mirror is just the icing on the cake. :D
But i will admit that it appears to be a formidable trackday tool.
We need a full lap in this, Dale)
old school blinkers ! I love those Caterham. Nice driving.
I listen to this on my earphones while cycling to work...it’s a depressing experience.
Lol brilliant. I love how you just walked away after he finally let you by 😂
Cool video! Love these little Caterhams.
You definitely know how to get the most out of that car. Great video
I can't use any of the adjectives that I have in mind to qualify that McLaren driver without risking this UA-cam account. I'm glad you're ok. I hope he learns to drive someday.
Cheers from a fellow 485 owner. Nice driving!
Fantastic driving as always Dale !! 👏👊. I bet he drove straight back to his penthouse and cried!!
Wow what a fun car....and brilliantly driven!
Caterham is bat shit fast but people don't realise how fast those McLaren's are. It's something to see to be believed
3:47 is where the rich boy realises he is outclassed by a better car and a better driver..
At least he was using his mirrors that time, I was half expecting him to cut you up again !
Haha you gave that mclaren a serious run for its money. Would love to have seen you have a go at him in the parking lot.
Yes, you are childish and spew a lot of drivel. :)
Mate his driving done the talking. He dont need to do nothing in the parking lot.
@@worldhello1234 THAT is Psychological Projection.
Epic! Absolutely loved it. Wish I could hear more clearly your commentary though. Maybe it's my phone so I'll have to watch it again on my laptop, oh no what a chore hahaha! Great job fella
The McLaren is a fast car. This beautiful caterham is a quick car.
Committed driving there. Could feel the rush of adrenalin just after the overtake. Despite brick aerodynamics the Caterham is the better car here in this match.
Nice car and awesome handling!
I wish this track was in my backyard...
Kromeification I wish I had your backyard! 😮
Cheers for this run fella.
Awesome battle, underdog wins anyway! Thanks for posting :)
Great showcase that you always need to expect everything. Everything.
Would you mind putting up the "couple of awesome laps" as well?
Nicely done Dale... hugely entertaining! :D
Nothing feels quite like a Caterham. :)
Nicely done!
Great driving Dale, I don't know what to say about the McLaren driver.
iFurkan the mclaren driver has 70 years old and this is a very good driver. I know it
Great job of control...the car and your emotions. For a second there I thought that McClaren was going to wreck you. Good on ya mate.
That Caterham doesn't sound stock (I think). What's under the hood?
I really enjoyed your good humour and excellent driving. Kudos for not losing your rag totally with that appalling Mclaren driver.
What a legend!
awsome driving!
Great driving. Let's hope he takes this as a lesson and improves his attitude and driving!
Going down the inside into Adenau bridge was a bit risky at best - it was clear from the start that the McLaren was a bit point and squirt and he gave no real indication he was acknowledging you passing there (at a less than ideal place too) - no surprise he turned in (as you'd expect).
Man you drive the pants off that Caterham !. Very impressed. My Ass was clenching and i was sat on sofa watch you. lol.
This Boy is one smoth diver!
So glad u over took him lol awesome drive and lovely car!
I bet the driver of the Caterham was having a lot more fun as well.
I'd love to see what Dale can do with a Donkervoort GTO-S or even RS. 380hp and under 800 kg some downforce and a ton of torque.
Honestly the McLaren driver did the right thing, he closed the door on the inside line, thats what you're suppose to do if you can do it without hitting the other car, so that was fair play lol..
@1:55 damnit where is the 7th gear
Pretty sure he is in 5th. 6th would be to the right of 4th not the right of 3rd.
This bit is up hill so a higher gear wouldn't make a difference in fact it could slow it down.
Check the other laps Dale did with these Caterham cars, good driver!
Nicely done
The McLaren is faster just needs a better driver, saying that it's a track day the guy is having fun and that's what it's all about ...
You're supposed to yield to faster traffic behind you, he could have fun without ruining everyone's day
You may find that comment is not necessarily true on this course.
Followed you for year fella,as i am same handle on mx5 nuts, lovely driving
Great driver 👌 and very nice video 👍
Would you fancy those ten seconds at 3:49?
Amazing footage.
impressive, nice drive, very skilled.
Are you allowed to record footage in TF now then Dale, thought it was banned? I'm bringing my Westfield in September but don't think my lap will be so fast or entertaining.
Great driving!
Is it from Caterham Hoffmann and can anyone borrow a 485s?
This is outstanding! Does your caterham have a top?
Caterham every time!! 😎
Funny feature of a caterham having the signal lights like that
Surprised the Caterham's power to weight ratio wasn't adversely effected by the chip you're carrying.
Wow! Fast car driven well. 👌
For the first half of the video I was like get him get him tip of the hat sir awesome!.
I’m just impressed he’s able to drive the thing in anger with the doors on.
I’d be smashing the sh!t out of my elbow on it constantly, there’s a reason roll cages for 7’s have a door bar that sticks out way out to the side!
Interesting that the power to weight of these two cars is relatively similar. The Caterham has just about 10PS pet ton more, but the Mclaren has way more speed available. Does it also need an ability button?
wordreet Power to weight means surprisingly little at high speed. At 3 digit speeds aero drag resistance is way greater than what you get from lots of weight since aero drag increases exponentially with speed. I imagine the caterham has terrible amounts of drag from both the shape and lack of roof.
Yeap, the Caterham is bloody near brick shaped in comparison, and this one only has a 140 top speed, according to the specs on their website. Yet the Macca still didn't get away.
It is a 650s, I know the driver, very nice guy but pretty bad driver. I have been with him for 2 laps, the problem with him is that he is driven by the car rather than driving the car as he keeps all aids on, so he has no idea what smoothness mean.
Guillaume D Don't blame him for keeping the systems on to be fair, I'd do the same in such an expensive car especially if he's running without track insurance. And also to afford a car like that you probably won't have all the time in the world to learn to drive it to its true potential
"the problem with him is that he is driven by the car rather than driving the car as he keeps all aids on"
Driving aids = the car driving you? F1 cars have all kinds of electronic aids... guss F1 drivers only let the car drive them
DJ what I mean by that is that making huge steering motion, braking while cornering or stepping on the gaz won't make the car step out.
So if you get used to that you start braking later and later and try to flick the car harder as opposed to get smooth to get some speed out of that brilliant piece of engineering !
That is at list my opinion after experiencing the car as a passenger on this set up for two laps.
So you think maybe it would be smart to keep the electronic aids on while tracking your half million dollar sports car, and maybe practice exceeding the limits with something you won't miss if you go off track?
S Miller I agree with you but as I read someone say in another comment section : you start by learning to walk before running and there he was on the back of Usain Bolt !
With the safety of the ESP of course but that is not the way to exploit the potential of that car
greatgreat drive!!!!!!!
Nice video man!
did you report this driver to the marshals?
Very nice driving buddy
On the edge guy great drive ..
Good man, Dale.
0:55 and 3:00 -> reasons why I haven't driven on the Ring yet 🙈 disrespectful and selfish drivers... I'm more afraid of other drivers crashing into my car than crashing by myself...
Money can buy you an expensive and fast car, but it can't buy you driving skills...
Thank you...
Time for a 620R ?
