      @gwendolynallen3218 That's a nice sentiment, but not at all what I have experienced. Also born with a facial birth defect (like the op mentioned), and I had over 25 faci reconstructive surgeries to try to even just look _"normal."_ Never happened. The surgeon that had since the age of 3 months had no more skills to get me to where I wanted to be, by the time I was 20. When I started working full time and got health insurance, I had several additional reconstructive surgeries. I came to the realization that my particular birth defect will *never go away* even if I had 100 more surgeries. But I'd like to think at least I *_tried,_* and that was in some weird attempt to appease others and not get condemning comments, slurs and disgusted looks. Altering one's face a few dozen times certainly wears on a person. I am close to 60 now, and I couldn't give a sh*t any about what anyone thinks or says. 😁

  • @beardoodle9835
    @beardoodle9835 4 місяці тому +771

    This infuriates me for several reasons:
    1. It's performative, not preventative. Other than sunscreen, you're not preventing anything at that age. Cleanser, simple mousturizer, and sunscreen is all you need.
    2. The skin care companies are loving this because it's a new market and they are ROLLING in the money.
    3. These girls are missing out on the whole "carefree" childhood and teen years.
    4. These kids are starting a routine that they'll never be able to stop at such a young age, they're going to be burnt out at a young age.
    5. Medical procedures for no reason....I can't even......😡
    6. They literally need to touch grass. Roll in the grass, throw a mud pie at their friends....😭

    • @MileinaJuarez
      @MileinaJuarez 4 місяці тому +37

      They indeed prevent nothing with anything but sunscreen. Sunscreen, cleanser and moisturizer is all you need at that age. Also, if you use retinols that young, they might not be working as well when your collagen starts slowing down later. Our bodies can get used to every substance we use and develop a tolerance to it. Tretinoin won’t work as well when you are older when you already used it since a very young age. I have seen it in patients who used it for acne since their teens. Yes, they often do look younger in their 30s than others but they also always used sunscreen, because that’s a must with this acne treatment, so that plays a huge role. If you use the tanks before your even at war, you’ll have nothing left later.

    LIFE DOESN'T END AFTER 25! I'm 41 and I look fucking rad! I can say that now too because of the confidence age has brought to me. People SHOULD have self love and confidence because it's a healthy mentality. I don't look 20 but I don't look 40 but even if I did WHO THE HELL CARES?! I take great care of my skin and body and that's healthy, but obsessing over it to the point you mutilate yourself thinking it's somehow a time machine, it's just not necessary! Born in 94' The reason we look younger than gen z people is because WE WERE KIDS uninterested in adult influencers (maybe we looked up to our older sister or mom) but we could not be bothered with what adults were doing. We were kids enjoying being kids. When I was 13 I used face wash for teens because I was getting pimples. Lmfao. I wasn't wanting a stupid ass tumbler for Christmas. I would've been upset. I wanted a damn game cube with games. Thats why we look young...because we got the chance to be young and not poisoned by social media. In 4th grade the popular thing was cute shawls and livestrong rubber bracelets...at 10 years old I asked for a shawl and a bracelet, and I wanted to smell like chocolate... lip smackers. 😅😅😂 we got that child hood.

    The only “skincare” a teenager needs is anti acne steps. AKA: washing your face, moisturizing, and an effective spot treatment. We didn’t have a lot of gentle products when I was a teen, and I didn’t realize my sensitive skin didn’t like the neutrogena products I was using. I’m glad there’s more products for the sake of handling sometimes painful acne, but the anti-aging stuff is outrageous.

      Moms start putting moisturizers on newborns after baths as soon as they can and keep it up until the child can do it themselves.
      I think it’s fine to stress the importance of moisturizing after a shower/bath. It’s a good habit to get into along with eating your fruits and veggies & drinking water.
      Kids just need a very gentle, unscented, cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen.
      This is what dermatologists recommend.
      If they have issues with acne in the tween - teen years they need to talk to their doctor and go from there.
      Some of these kids are currently destroying their skin barrier with all this extra crap:

I really hate to say it but my generation the obsession was cigarettes and bulemia. Anorexia was just before my generation age. Gross. Where’s the generation where the kids obsess about being happy and doing good things for each other. That would be the wow generation.

Now I'm older I care about my appearance but not nearly as much as I used to, now sleep and money weigh out my desire to think about it too much. No wonder kids now have so many issues, I don't know how they cope with all this pressure and constant anxiety about looking flawless and never aging. Because it's a losing battle, everyone will age eventually and die, trying to stop it will just drive you crazy.

      Yes, I am teaching my daughter about skin, but not like this. I teach about ingredients and what they do and what they are good for. That way no matter what the current trend is she can buy items for whatever she needs in the future just by reading the ingredients label. For example: glycerin is great for skin hydration, niacinamide helps with too much oil production, salycilic acid helps exfoliate acne prone skin, you can use cocoa butter and she butter to diy body butters and so on. These oddballs are not learning anything just jumping on the aesthetics of it all. There is a limit to what you should put on your skin at one time if you don’t want a reaction just like you said. I bet if you asked them what ingredients were in what and they preferred they would struggle to explain.

    I'm Gen Z and I'm a guy who's had to deal with self image/Esteem issues since I was 11. I've been an overweight goofy 4 eyed freak my entire childhood. I hated the world I hated my parents and I hated the way I looked every time I saw myself in the mirror.
    I use to get bullied for being socially awkward and by the time I was 13 I would be sexually harassed by many boys school and at one point get followed home. Due to how often I would get into fights (usually with the same person) and with how often I didn't feel listened to I use to starve myself just to have some feeling of control in my life (among other things).
    At home I would try to make myself vomit after eating something but because I use to get put in choke holds a lot I taught myself how to relax whenever I felt my breathing would be compromised.
    It didn't take until I was 17 that I started to enjoy life again and actually start working out and eating a bit more healthy.
    Last year I went on a self love journey and it made me realize just how much I've wasted my life being angry at everything when In reality all those negative events in my life were preparing me for how horrible the world can be and my view on a lot of things have change since.
    Today at age 23 I can actually look at myself and actually be happy at what I'm looking at despite the layers of bags formed under my eyes along with veins sticking out of my face making me look like palpatine from Starwars.
    I'm comfortable with myself now and I'm not letting anyone else take my peace of mind away from me again.

    This is legitimately TERRIFYING
    Between this the completely inappropriate Christmas lists, not being able to read and write(I know that’s more Gen Alpha but still similar idea) the Sephora mayhem etc the future of America and the world is hanging by a thread.
    At this point I honestly don’t know how it’s even fixable. It’s easy to say just be tougher parents be less allowing take away technology etc but if were being 💯 it may be too late. Once kids have reached too far past like toddler age there’s only so much of their core personality you can change. People do mature and grow overtime I know but you can’t just flip a light switch and expect things to get radically better. Sadly there’s no software update on children like on their beloved devices. You can’t just update their operating system to fix what’s wrong. Once they’ve become a certain age they are who they’ll be save for a few tweaks around the edges. Yes there are rare instances of people transforming themselves as adults but that’s rare.
    These kids have been babied coddled and allowed to run wild for so long the toothpaste is out of the tube the genie is out of the bottle so to speak.
    I’m 28 soon to be 29 and I’m really worried about my future if this is the kinda youngsters that are gonna be in charge one day. Some of these kids are gonna have to be doctors lawyers auto mechanics bankers etc. If they can’t even do basic grade level work or sit still for more than a millisecond how on Gods earth are they gonna function in society? I’m being totally upfront here with y’all. The parents have given them everything they want for forever that when they have to enter the real world these Gen Z Gen Alpha etc are gonna lose their minds because as we all know grown ups don’t put up with no BS.
    Idk y’all idk it’s a sad depressing dark road ahead. There’s still some chance at making things a bit better because all these kids are young but I’m afraid for the most part this nightmare is here to stay.

Instead of making you young and keeping you that way forever, they’ll make you get older FASTER, which I don’t understand why people are using these products, even if they’re unneeded. SMH

I saw what adventure meant and got to do a lot of things most kids weren’t able to. i find it really disturbing what skin care has turned into. i am 19, going on 20 and it makes me sad to see people my age and younger worry so much about aging. admittedly, i love skin care. it has helps me manage my skin problems, like severe dryness and irritation; it helps me feel like it's ok to take care of myself. what i think went wrong at some point in time, is that we forgot that certain ingredients are for different age groups. personally, i see no issue in starting to use sun screen (because it helps prevent skin cancer!), moisturisers, light serums or exfoliants at my age, as long as you are aware of what ingredients to avoid. such young skin doesn't need actives like retinol! and there are plenty of products without retinol, vitamin c and the such to choose from, that still have very positive effects on skin health.
    i really hope that one day, we as a society will be able to move on from these superficial standards of looking young forever and start taking care of our skin, not because we fear aging, but because it deserves to be taken care of. it's our largest organ and is so beautiful, no matter our age and amount of wrinkles. aging and looking old is a huge privilege

      Well try skipping makeup, it makes skin issues much worse and can leave scaring...just use some eye liner and mascara...maybe some shaddow for a more noticeable look. It's just insane how much foundation and other full face paint younger women wear now days. It can turn clear skin into acne but ppl keep trying to cover it and only make it worse. The only ppl who used to wear such heavy makeup was actors and dragqueens, and the current trends like contouring and these really heavy looks come from the Drag community...so we have real women walking around looking like troons...and it looks terrible.

    • @nikathejellyfish
      @nikathejellyfish 4 місяці тому

      @@whispersinthedark88 please do not talk about women in this manner. while, yes, wearing a lot of make-up can make skin irritation and acne worse, it isn't the root of the problem in many cases. you brought up drag queens. many of them don't suffer from severe acne or the sorts. knowing how to remove make up and taking care of your skin properly (which doesn't have to include an elaborate and expensive routine) can really minimise the effects of wearing a lot of make up. if a woman chooses to wear make-up, it's up to her and her alone, to do, what makes her feel comfortable and confident. still, i more than acknowledge, that society, cooperations and media make women and fems more insecure which leads to increased make-up consumption for many.
      as for myself, i rarely ever wear make-up. my skin issues stem from having neurodermitis since birth, making my skin really sensitive. so, in my case having an age appropriate skin care routine, is a must, if i don't want my skin to start hurting again, every time it comes into contact with moisture

    I'm 40, and I remember in the '90s people being peeved that airbrushing was common on magazine covers because it gave unrealistic expectations for how women "should" look. Social media came along, and loads of women were able to get modelling contracts or become influencers by posting their real selves without airbrushing, and I thought, "Great! A way to work around magazines. People like real representations of ourselves!" Until all of these filters took over, and now good luck finding a picture someone takes of themselves without some kind of filter on it. Now here we are again, with all these kids doing these routines that are only meant to throw focus from important things onto vanity, which is a vapid and fruitless endeavour. Imagine caring so much what you look like all your life, then finding that all of these routines and procedures eventually run their course and age just takes over - how much of a bombshell that will be for these girls.

      Many in your age bracket are ageists. Hate to wave my old fist but the only ageism that mattered was at elderly people when I was 19. It was annoying feeling like I didnt get enough respect, but I knew it would come eventually. Never before was there ageism among same age groups before Z. Never ever did a 15yr old think of a 20yr old as ancient and irrelevant. Older was cool, not someone to insult,
