2014 is mid 2010s btw lol, if that's what you were referring to, but yes, I do agree.. Early 2010s: 2010-2014 Mid 2010s: 2014-2017 Late 2010s 2017-2019/2020 Lol, haha..
2013 & early 2014 were the final days before toxic identity politics poisoned our culture & took the fun out of life. Everyone knows it, even if they won't say it out loud. I miss the days when being apolitical was okay & you wouldn't get bullied about it.
Fr like at this point im not even feeling bad anymore guys there is jst a big cycle of generations spitting on eachother like stop giving us attention and they might stop like its annoying now
2014 was a good year. No Skibidi Toilet, no Lankybox-type videos, and of course, the *egregious* obsession with *skin cares* at a very young age. Only good times.
@@Jade.051 UA-cam channel, they started off in maybe 2015 or some. Back then their content was actually entertaining, they made videos like kpop on a budget etc Now they shifted to making content for Gen alpha which are basically screaming and worst type of loud animated content you can imagine, search up and you will see what I mean
I can't believe it was that long ago....I remember watching it during a school trip to a movie theater in middle school that we got as an award for some bullshit I don't even remember doing or achieving (so much for a teaching moment huh?)
Oh gosh everyone at my school wanted to see frozen til we had a slumber party and saw it and we were like, "Why did we want to watch this-" we were about 11 or 12 then lol
I'm early Gen Z, so I was a kid in the 2000s and in middle/high school during the early-to-mid 2010s. I romanticize it too, it was just a great time to be alive.
I can’t believe that we played together in 2014 and y’all just took care of us like younger siblings and now y’all just make fun of us😂seems like everyone is making fun of each other nowadays
The "coquette" vs coquette thing made me think of the part in the Mickey Mouse short when Minnie was trying on hats and she picked out the same exact hat and Mickey, Goofy, and Daisy were like "Hmm idk" and Donald said "IT'S THE SAME HAT"
Im almost 50 and all the best things from every decade are in style right now , i love it. Seriously im sittin here with my 70s curtain bangs , in my 80s Metallica tee, sippin my 90s latte and playing my 2000s myspace playlist, 2010s lt pink hair and it's all in rn 😸
You know what's weird? I didn't see a single owl in any of those 2014 things. I remember owls being everywhere during that time. Heck, I even had owl bedding! My mum had an owl colouring book. There was owl jewelery, owl prints on flowey t shirts and dresses. So many owls...
I was born 2009 and I wish I could have experienced the Tumblr era and I don't remember much from that time period but I do remember galaxy leggings, mustaches on tank tops and flower crowns and I am buying all of those things for my birthday now 😂
As someone who is apart of Gen alpha, real. Everyone in my class has been addicted to social media since grade 2-4. One of the last good memories I have from my friends is from grade 2. From that point onward, all my memories are of playing Roblox or watching some yt shorts for 14-17 hours a day. I’m not kidding. My average screen time is 15 hours and 44 minutes.. Kinda a sucky childhood if you ask me.
Hayley I'm totally feeling your rage at being made to feel old (although I have a good few years on you!). My 4 yr old grandaughter informed me (46) that "Your hair is actually going white, Nan". Not ready for that at all, I still feel like a teenager inside!
Social media used to be full of escapism which is why everyone is getting tired. It’s no longer escapism, it’s just a performative act that we all watch because we want what it used to be.
it honestly feels like everything is an ad. not even a "i want to make being a content creator my job" thing, bc it *is* good that ppl r doing what makes them happy. but all/most big social media influencers r just abt consumerism and buy this and this and this or u dont fit in. its now normal for ppl to bully, its now normal to be considered "cringe" for trying to uplift other weird ppl or posting abt what makes them happt, theres trends and trends of different ways to make fun of ppl. like u said it rlly just isnt fun anymore, the internet isnt abt being fun anymore, u cant enjoy urself, u cant just do what u want, u have to fit in and do this and have this or ur cringe and stupid.
@@michaelkorenberg1313 1994 or 2004! id be fine with either, as long as we leave the homophobia and bodyshaming in the past. along with some of the 2000s trends ive seen resurface more recently, the "thinspo" and fetishization of bisexuality are both coming back and it sucks
@@krims_kringle I agree to disagree on some of your sentiments-Body shaming brings strength if one is willing to change it like a guy roasting an aneroxic calling it a skeleton in the closet or a living dead girl. Damn it I miss the 2000’s-back when people had a thick skin and where nobody didn’t walk on egg shells like now. Homosexuality and sibling movements are poisonous ideologies deserving to be trashed, censored and forgotten. Makes communism and fascism seem petty and innocent in comparison.
People generally feel this way about the time that we’re growing up. Millennial here, born 1992, I was 7 years old when the first season of Pokémon came out. Sometime I get nostalgic about being a kid and playing Pokémon with my older sister and friends at school. That said, the 2010’s actually came and went. I’d totally go back to 2010. Legit “old head” here. Y’all still have a lot to look forward to!
GenX old lady here....guys, seriously just do what you want. Stress kills. Stop worrying about trends, microtrends, esthetics, & "eras". I'm 47 years old & I haven't gave one f@&k about any trend since 1993. Wear what you want. Do want you want. Be WHATEVER you want. When you stop hyper-focusing about what everyone is doing & what they think, you will gain so much self confidence & self awareness. I promise you will be happier for it. 😁🤘👾
I was a tween in 2014. My grandfather fought in Ww2 and told me stories his dad told him about being a kid in the 1890s.... To hear 2014 being called vintage hurts too brother.
2014-2015 was a great time, I had the best memories, 20 and living abroad for the first time. I still have my old photos on my cloud from that period, it was still an easier time back then
if only 99% of the human species hadnt been getting murdered with labor induced starvation for the past 3 centuries. nostalgia wouldnt be a rare privilege anymore. mostly all we see now is kids from broken homes emulating the people they see online who became brain broken from being spoiled into extreme narcissism.
I'm a gen Z and I don't even remember how my life was in 2014 except for the memories of going to school and crashing on my bed after returning 😂 these kids were even younger!!!!
@@TayonaDarling Aww sweet!! I wanna do the same thing. Just make unfiltered regular old-school musician nerd content. It's so fun to just talk your ass off, unscripted and simple, am o right?
@@mid9mothSame here, I'm sick of this overscripted bs. I'll be attempting a Let's play 2014esque gaming channel where I play whatever game I find fun at that moment, not specifically one, and unscripted. I think it was so much fun! We followed people for their personalities back then!
Omg not the flower crownnnss l. I remember flower crowns were real popular around the same time the anime Attack on Titan got popular so you could not escape the weird overlap between the two
I really don't blame them, honestly. What we need to do is bring the color back to our lives. Gen Alpha is obsessed with that one makeup brand at Sephora because it's so bright and vibrant. We remember when McDonald's was colorful and playful. They only remember the minimalist greyscale McDonald's. I don't even think a single Gen Alpha got to play in a playplace. Honestly, we as Gen Z need to band together with Gen Alpha to demolish this marketable social media and bring the fun back.
Yes, they didn’t get to experience the play place and the fun colored McDonald’s as the pandemic changed that and they couldn’t play in the play places due to the McDonald’s being closed, then McDonald’s was changed to be grey and dull. Another thing is they didn’t get to experience that amazing McDonalds yogurt due to it being removed because of the pandemic.
ngl 2014 was kind of dope. 2014-2016 were kind of golden years, right before influencer culture peak, when social media was still casual, we were young and unaware Good times:)
hahahaha what... You know what was "casual" internet, early 2000 but you probably didn't exist yet. Early internet was like a underground punk rock, majority didn't know it exists, older thought it was a "phase", while we went full on mosh pit... until it started becoming mainstream and corporatized to the point it's now a one big commercial
social media was a hellhole in 2014, ever been on tumblr? (if you're commenting on something like that, you better be old enough to remember what I mean when I say this) 💀
Yeah i remember tumblr..... Can't say i ever used it but i remember the 'just girly things' memes that use to mock the garbage that was posted on that site
It is SO cute! I wonder if gen X/older millenials thought we were so cute trying to dress like them as well? All my love and support for my alpha babies
9:19 don't forget that if you are like individual or unique now on social media, people just bully you and call you cringe which is sad. Ig why people wanna go back to that Era is because you didn't have to be perfect and being "quirky" was like cool and stuff but now you can just get bullied for anything 🤷♂️
And these ppl on tiktok be yapping 'i miss the times before tiktok' Why wont just delete it?! And litteraly every summer can feel like 2014 if you just get ur ass of the phone all day and just go have some fun
Tik tok is really addictive and it´s really hard to quit and "Just delete it" Since you really quickly notice that you probably won´t have anything else to do (English isn´t my native language so I hope you understand what I´m trying to say)
That's not how it works, though. I'm 32 but think about it from a kids perspective. When you're going to school & everyone around you has the app, the language you speak & the things happening are dictated by what's happening on the most popular social media. You wouldn't be able to fully understand what's going on with your peers. You wouldn't know A LOT. You wouldn't be able to fit in. You would be bullied. It would affect your mental health to an extreme extent. Even at 32, I keep up with online things because my social groups (millennials) still talk in memes & puns & different internet language. If I deleted certain social media, I would be constantly confused by how my friends talk, what they are doing, etc. Which is fine in MY age group but it WOULD get exhausting for me to CONSTANTLY be asking "what is this" "what does this mean", etc etc etc. In an age group where people are cruel asf to each other, sometimes for no reason, even bullying people to the point of ending their lives, do you really think it's as easy as "just delete the app"? That's an insane oversimplification. Think about how we can understand memes that have context that requires us to know like... two previous memes or info from other internet culture. If they deleted the app, it would like walking around with everyone speaking in the language of that meme but having no knowledge of any of the prior information so it's just people saying one word or showing each other one picture and laughing. Or speaking in a language you practically don't understand. And being surrounded by a culture you don't understand. And havinf everyone know it because of the way you speak, the way you act, the way you react to things, etc. It's so much more nuanced than you're making it out to be. If you can't put yourself in someone else's shoes, just say that.
This reminds me of the videos people are uploading now like POV: you wake up to the birds chirping in 2014-2016 I’ve also seen some where’s it’s even older like 1970-2000.
As someone who was a teenager (14yrs) in 2014 it was the least pleasant year of my life. My family moved to the desert of Yuma, Arizona, I had no friends (I was homeschooled) and I found out my parents were thinking about getting a divorce. Not a lot of pleasant memories.
I graduated high school in 2014😂😂 trust me the fashion and trends were… not great. Galaxy leggings, meme/rage comic shirts, chevron patterns, the strange constant edits/cosplays of Attack on Titan characters in flower crowns?? Also tumblr was so fun (is still fun for me as I’ve never left the hellsite) because you literally CANT be an influencer there. Like that’s just not how the site has or ever will work. Even the most popular blogs are just like normal people? I love how the site prides itself on not being profitable, it’s just very funny.
Scrolling the comments and I finally found a fellow Zillennial!!! We are a rare breed lol. I also graduated high school in 2014. Born in 1996. I honestly don’t miss 2014 at all. It was cringe and we all dressed like 40 year old office managers when going to high school and college. I honestly don’t understand what there is to be nostalgic about. (Except the iPod. I still have my iPod touch and I still use it lol).
Galaxy leggings will always be in my heart-never had a pair, but I do have different patterned leggings I do wear now including a space pattern. Living out my childhood dreams now
You have no idea how HAPPY this makes me 😅😢 I miss the 2000s and early 2010s SO BAD everything used to be so colorful and fun, yes it was tacky but no one cared because we were all enjoying ourselves, and music OMG THE MUSIC it was at its peak! It was party music all around, I'm so happy this is coming back, even if temporarily, it might bring back some color into our lives after this grey mininalistic depression of this era
I was 9 in 2014, and the only social media I was into was UA-cam with its OG logo and I used to watch Little Kelly, Little Carly, Sharky and Scuba Steve, Tiny turtle and little lizard, etc… and the rest I watch regular TV (not smart tv) and played outside.
im gen z and i agree with some of these comments, people bullying kid for being dumb and doing kid things is just weird. we did the exact same things they did 😭
As a gen x, I support this comment. Guarantee you my g-grandparents generation did the same thing to my grandma's generation they just didn't have internet.
Exactly, let people just enjoy something however they want. Who cares if they are "romanticizing 2014" how does it even affect you?? Like dude womp womp, its not like they're romanticizing the time of the nazi regime, its 2014! People today are unfortunately far too sensitive, and often times hypocritical..
Yeah, the problem is you guys are in your 20s now and still haven't grown out of doing that stuff. You're supposed to be adults, working a job and starting a family, but you're all still on tiktok pretending you're still 12.
I remember 2014 and... I get it. Now everything feels so cold, So lifeless. I don't participate on any trends, but I actually like when people are curious about the past. It give's me hope people will start caring about living their lives for real and not just for the camera. People do really want to go back to a time without widespread phone addiction.
Hey now, us millennials were addicted to our phones too. We just had to choose between talking to our friends or having an Internet connection! And don't even get me started on T9 texting....
@@joehguitar7967 yeah, it's a bit different tho. gen alpha was born with an ipad/phone in their hands. as a zoomer, I didn't get a phone til i was 15. I'm 21 now. things are a bit different when you come out of the womb and have an ipad in hand
My question is why 2014 _specifically?_ I can't remember a single thing from that year that I'm genuinely nostalgic for, hell, I barely remember anything from that year at _all_
I don’t think music was anywhere near its prime and the world has never been happy ever since the dawn of humanity, and guess what kids still play outside!!!! How shocking 😮 , you sound just like one of the Alpha kids romanticizing a year which sucked ass and making it sound like it’s the 80s or some shit.
2014 had an obession about making music about big asses. People in 2014 literally said the same thing about 2004 - "this was the year music died" bla bla bla. Sick of this nostalgia talk
I love it 🥲 2014 as a teenager was amazing so I get why they’re romanticizing it. Those aesthetic photos just need an iPod touch, wired headphones, some shutter glasses, a Pink dog plushie, a skater skirt, some converse, a black choker, and slap a crazy Instagram filter on it and you’ve got a 2014 picture 🥹 the soft grunge fashion aesthetic, Vine, and the carefree photos on Instagram were just some of the highlights of that era. Nowadays everything is just beige and boring and everyone is the same and trying to be perfect.
I’m part of late gen z, and by the point in life where I was finally able to understand things, the world was consumed. When I started becoming a teenager, it was boring, nothing was fun and colorful and all those “glow up tips” videos just tell you u need stuff like skincare and 5 hours of self-treatment and whatever not. I was never able to experience a time where no one cared about whether your clothes matched or not, what your hairstyle was, and good your makeup is. Crazy to imagine that the adults now were just kids having fun a few years ago and now all of them have changed to one specific style and a specific standard. Times change to quick man.
@@Cozy-Cooking im 2010 and the "me romanticizing 2014 like i wasnt 4" got me so angry bc i will NEVER tolerate being lumped in with gen alpha 😭🙏🙏2010 was honestly the last year to be born as a normal human being bc have you seen the stuff 7th graders do ☠☠the 8th graders this year are the last generation of normal people and i will always stand by that

Girl, you nailed it with this video. I am still listening to 2000s to early 2010s music. I have an absolute favorite pair of adidas torsion zx flux. Watercolor brightly colored florals. When the started to fray in the back, I started searching for another one. It's been years. They never released the same model again. Only very few survive in eBay and understandably higher priced. I don't care at all if it's on trend. If it's in or out of fashion. I wear what I like. What feels comfortable and makes me feel cute. One day I'm going out in a pastel floral countryside princess in an A-line dress. Another I'm dressed like early 2010s Hot Topic goth girl. In other days, I'm just chilling in a gamer tomboy Avril Lavigne style. And some days I go full Boho with bright colors and soft neutrals. I hope Gen Alpha realizes that there's no need for this extra stress. Just wear what you like, kids! Tell the haters to go peel potatoes. And this will sound cliché, but do spend some time outside if you really like what the 2010s was about. Because the 2010s was about capturing the good times outside. I do miss the times when people were just posting pictures of themselves having fun for the memories, and not for likes or views. I used to take photos of dishes I'd order at restaurants because I was loving the experience. I knew there were a lot of people back then making fun of our spontaneous selfies and food pictures, but I didn't care about them because I wasn't doing it for them. I did it for myself. Nowadays, I take pictures of food I cook for special occasions, of my pet snakes, and beautiful snowy or autumn scenery right outside my home. I still love editing my photos to make them as true to the actual scene as possible, but no more than that. Like if the snow is sparkling right before my eyes, I want to make sure that shows up in my photos. And again, I do it for me. I'm not asking for anyone's permission to do harmless leisure. Why stop doing the things you like just because the season changed, some stranger didn't like it, or because it's another year? Just be you. Sorry for the long rant, I just don't want to see the new young people have to struggle to figure out that it's okay to just be themselves. And I think that if we all stop putting so much emphasis on following trends over just enjoying trends, people wouldn't feel this pressure to be like everyone else to fit in.
I was 14 in 2014, and can confirm, that year was so influencial in who I am now even. Instant flashbacks to Twenty One Pilots, Melanie Martinez, Lana Del Rey, Asetic Monkeys, etc; The chokers, the docs, the blurry "aesthetic," photos, the romanticization of bruises and other very human and normal things. Everyone wanted a record player. Everyone was obsessed with 90's grunge but with a cool, modern twist on it. Tumblr was absolutely everythingggg. I still often look up "2014 tumblr aesthetic," and just reminisce :') I actually do wish Gen Alpha got to experience it. It was a crazy but very fun time to be a teenager. And at that, my early childhood was still NORMAL. The earliest I remember even seeing a smart phone in real life was when I was 9, and it was a neighbor's lol. Didn't get a smart phone until I was 14 - the iphone 5c. I grew up playing outside with friends and had absolutely no care in the world about what was trending, who was an influencer. Gen Alpha doesn't get that choice, and it's actually incredibly sad.
I was 7 in 2014. What I remember was starting at a new school and when everyone in my class got along and we all played tag together. It went down hill after that, that’s when the bullying properly started. Genuinely that was the last time I was not genuinely depressed.
In 2014, I was 17 and had just escaped my abusive partner of three years. I did not think I was going to survive until 25. 2013 to 2018 is all a blur so I can't be nostalgic over most of the 2010's, but I'm here now, fairly happy and enjoying life despite the state of the world.
It’s the alpha generation who are saying 2014 is a great year because they were young. For adults it was a normal time. Everyone say the same thing about their childhood years unless they lived through war and misery but the world is the same it’s just how each person view it. The years are not great it’s about their childhood. I was 18 in 2014 it was not a great year for me a lot of stress from school and other issues and instagram peak im glad time passed. We should be grateful everyday.
Turning 17 this year. Never thought I'd make it this far. And all the things I've done. The turn of decade was infact good because since 2022 especially, I feel like I'm actually living my life
Baby I don't know you but I am sorry for what you went through. I'm 42 with 2 teem kid's. Unfortunately I too went through something similar. @@MochiFam it’s really not at all. Sure, depending if it’s older or younger gen z, they could be similar. But it’s not the same so the clarification still matters.
I mean, I never had new anything as a kid or growing up. I got my first iPod as a hand me down at 13 from a friend in ‘09 and had it for years, found my Polaroid at a thrift shop where it was out of date as a teen not even cool out of date just-dated. There’s something to be said about literally not being able to keep up with trends, you can’t really get caught up in what you can’t afford.
honestly the fact gen alpha does the same stuff we did when we were younger and everyone’s surprised about it baffles me.. their kiDs- let them be kids for like two seconds at least💀
THANK YOU! they’re just being kids and mirroring what they see. gen z did the exact same thing by romanticizing the 2000’s when they were barely alive, and now gen alpha is doing the same thing. maybe if we don’t turn into what boomers did to us as we were kids, gen alpha will actually grow up to be themselves instead of bending to what they “should be.” especially in a time as chaotic as right now, we romanticize the past. it’s in our nature, and just because it makes you feel a little old (shut up you’re probably like 22 lol) doesn’t mean that gen alpha can’t have fun looking back at 2014.
@@leejay-zd8zj IKR- im just like.. let them be? idk i guess i dont get it but its not that deep and im not gonna bully CHILDREN on the internet for wanting to have a 2014 aesthetic🤷♂️ personally im interested to see what they do next lol- i think im more tired of these “gen wars” than a kid dressing how people did in 2014 lol
I was 14 in 2014 (born in 2000). I find it fascinating and kinda cool that teens nowadays who weren't teenagers in 2014 are starting to romanticize about being teens in that era. I was 13-19 years old in the 2010s and it was a fun time, so many good memories. But I never would have thought back then that teens in the future would wish to be teens during that time lmao. However looking at how boring & stagnate the 2020s have been I would NOT want to be a 2020s teen at all. We definitely had it better in the 2010s as teenagers, plus we where vine teens not cringe tiktok teens 🤣
It's boring to you now because you're an adult. You've been there, done that. Nothing is as exciting as the first time or when you don't know any better. You guys were still cringe Vine teens. "Do it for the viiiine!" ring any bells lol
Yeah. I was a pre-teen at that point, a few years younger than you, 2014 was the worst year of my life though. That whole era being romanticised is understandable but being made out to be different to what it was....still a very flawed world back then.
im so glad someone if finally speaking up about trends, aesthetic and fashion. like it doesn't matter what other people think, you should be enjoying yourself and you dont have to do what everyone else is doing
This girl is the most real girl I have ever listened to. Every word that comes out of her mouth is just so real, and I wish everyone got to watch her videos or specifically this video because I sure will change perspectives on things right now.
2014 was honestly the best year of my childhood. I was only 10-11 so obviously there’s a lot of things I didn’t experience, but what I did was just so… wholesome. I used to watch every DanTDM mod review, play with my lps, make silly animation memes that my scratch friends would hype me up for (real ones remember), and unironically use emoticons and phrases like lawlz and oh em gee in conversation… it feels like everything just took a turn for the worse after that year so I don’t blame gen alpha 🥲 things suck now but damn, at least I was allowed to be a kid!
Another 99 baby here, yes. It’s nice to see that Gen alpha thinks we were so cool as teens lol. Personally tho I have more nostalgia for the 2000s 🤷🏼♀️
It really was fun being a teen during that time, youtube was getting big, new amazing tech, social media, it was a simpler time 2010-2014. As with any time even now there is not so great stuff but I treasure those memories like taking photos on a digital camera or flip phone with your friends ❤
Bro, my senior year of high school I quite literally duct taped my black high top converse on to my feet at one point because I would wear my shoes until they could not be worn anymore. This extreme level of over consumption needs to come to a hard stop asap
Honestly I agree with this comment, as a gen z born in the year 2005, during my high school I kept using the same bookbag as it was convenient for the crap i had to carried until the point my parents had forced me to get a new one despite me not wanting a new one, Even when the trends were going on a lot of the times My family was too broke to notice the trends so I missed out on a lot of my childhood, the amount of people i see who get rid of something even though it's perfectly good in condition just because the phone or laptop is "old" or clothing is extremely stupid
the "no ive been making them look this distressed, now that they are i have to keep going" mindset until things entirely fall apart and you must begin again. my poor converse went through it HARD bc of this 🤣🤣
I've noticed that "vintage" aesthetics have been popular for awhile now, so many people want to bring back styles from the past and I love it. I've been a part of living history clubs since i was a kid where alot of people choose to wear 1800's style as their everyday clothes and even change their house to be historically accurate. Modern aesthetics suck, "sad beige" being the worst it's dystopian af. I love dark academia, Harry Potter and cottagecore aesthetics all have a vintage vibe but also have a beautiful color palette.
I certainly wish I had enough to pull off the 1800's clothes everyday but I only have one victorian lolita type dress and whatever would go with it. I am more of the 1920's clothes enthusiast so I have plenty of options there.
@@MicaVonSchilf You're a girl, right? Because as a male I love the 1860s-70s in terms of fashion and can affordably dress in authentic looks from the era.. I guess the big, less recognizably modern dresses must be expensive, bespoke or not (i.e. how mens 3-piece suits from then resemble now so they aren't as expensive)
Yk I was just talking to my mom about this the other day day bc I went to the mall one day and all the girls looked like clones literally and were all going to and coming out of Sephora or holding a Sephora bag all dressed the same and even same jewelry like I think it’s cool to do what YOU like to do or dress how YOU want and not just to look like every other girl and boy ❤
2014 is such a specific year. It's interesting to see people wanting to be a teenager when I was (mid 2000s-2010). But people in high school would say that they wish they were born in the 80s or 70s too. I guess every generation does that. Guilty as charged...
I was about to ask that... If millennials wished they lived the 80s or 70s in the US, because where I live that was never a thing (I'm a millennial). At least in the community I grew up in, the past decades were CRINGE. My mom would love the throwback parties though.

I remember there was a lot of media coverage, but as a kid I was just annoyed with them only talking about that for months, and I really just wanted to do and watch kid things. I'm not sure what you mean by war prop. I only remember the local news talking extensively about the tensions rising between the two countries, but they also left pretty clear that it was all a conflict of interests, and that the US was the main interested party on the war. Still, I don't think this made much difference on local culture.
I was 13 years old in 2014, no drama, no constant being focused on our phones, no excessive insecurity about our appearances or being forced to grow up too fast against our will ever, just comfortably going through our awkward phases and playing Mario Kart with our fellow classmates. Sometimes I wished I was born in the 80's or 90's due to having played Five Nights At Freddy's though but really maybe even those times also weren't as great as some people made them out to be.
oh my gosh dude Mario Kart 7 with my classmates was THE VIBE. At my school we went on so many field trips so we would be in the back seat playing Mario kart. I also remember the teacher made one of the last days of school about videogames so we all played Mario kart.
lol I was 13 in 2009, 13-19 was the most depressed I ever have been in my life. Bullied at school, covered in cystic acne, trouble at home from parents' divorce, completey insecure about my appearance due to said bullying and acne. Tbh I'm glad that tiktok wasn't a thing cause at least from 2009-2017 the beauty standard wasn't AS ridiculous. I never even NOTICED my thin lips, or long philtrum, or lack of glass skin, or "negative cantal tilt" or whatever the fuck until I was an adult. Those things just weren't a concern back then. And the irony was that nobody really noticed them as flaws.
Im 23 and I mentor middle schoolers and let me tell you they definitely make me feel old. Today they were all sitting in a circle doing the cup song and saying how they were teaching their friend a “vintage trend” 😂😭😭
As someone who recently turned 30, I’ve, for awhile now, been nostalgic for the early-to-mid-2000s, but it’s less about aesthetics, but more-so towards places & shops that used to exist, my own personal experiences and just the general feeling of being less stressful and having a more balanced outlook and mindset (if that makes any sense).
2014 was great cuz social media wasn't the awful crap storm it is today. It was still mostly newish. Not MySpace new, but not poisonous like today. The end of an era where kids grew up with tech but still had to go outside lol.
Yeah it's all about nostalgia, I mean I'm 21 now, but those were genuinely simpler times, everything was more fun and vibrant! I really do miss a lot of shops that have closed down now
Same here! I'm 27 and I miss those times so much😢 Before all the pressures of today's social media I guess and being kicked off the internet early evening because your mum wanted to make a phone call 😩😂 The biggest worry being coming home to a ghost Tamagotchi if they got wildly hungry and had bowel incontinence while you were gone 👻 It's so sad walking around all the places I used to be happiest that have become derelict or new housing estates. It makes me realise just how long ago that actually was and how much time has just flown by!
4:43 made me think of the Radiohead lyric "I wish it was the '60s, I wish we could be happy" from their song "The Bends" from 1995. the singer, Thom Yorke, was born in late 1968. truly affects every generation, just much more public and cringe now lol
Omg I was 13 and in middle school. Tbh loved all the memes, knee high converse, body spray after PE, stretchy headbands, skinny jeans, and old UA-cam. Better times tbh, I’m 23 now.
Knee High Converse are the coolest shoes ever made and nobody can convince me otherwise. As a matter of fact, I even own a pair (got it from eBay in October 2021). :)
25 year old Zoomer here. I've definitely missed 2014, since it was a great era of UA-cam (2012-2015 to be exact). Let's Plays, Creepypastas, Vine, all that sort of stuff. It's weird to me that Gen A is being nostalgic over that era, considering they're barely in their teens.
Girl Hayleyyyy, Me and you are around the same age I was literally 10-11year olds in 2014 now I'm Turning 20 in June. I feel like 2014 was something, I was literally getting my fashion and bedroom ideas from Pintrest, tumblur and Polyvore .....POLYVORE😭 I was so obsessed with having off sleeved plaid vest and big fake glasses 😅. I still have blue jeans and boots from 6th grade!
I honestly think this is a sign that the world is just becoming too complicated honestly. Every year we see more and more trends on social media that revolve around nostalgia and romanticizing the past. People today struggle with more mental health problems like anxiety, depression, and loneliness than ever before, which is due to a lot of different factors. 2014 was by no means a “simple” time, but I think it was definitely more simple than today.
Geez I feel old…. I remember the days when Mr. Roger’s neighborhood re-runs played on cable. The THX sound effect. The Shirley temple collection commercial that would play before or after a cha cha cha chia pet one. “Coming Soon on DVD & Video”
It is the return of my favourite Australian lady with the glasses on her head.... Edit: I feel old every time someone mentions 2014 even though I vividly remember what the hell that year besides popular stuff that made the headlines and popular UA-cam videos (I was 7 years old) Another edit: Thx for the heart

I kept my instagram account that was active from 2011-2016, back when I was in college, and the difference is INCREDIBLE. We used to literally take pics of anything and post it. It's why I preserved the account entirely. It was such a different time, you just had to be there.
@@user-sg4ov7ng4h ....okay....??? So what? I was talking about Instagram. There was a moment on INSTAGRAM where it was cool to post things that weren't perfectly curated, now its not. Social media used to be full of escapism which is why everyone is getting tired. It’s no longer escapism, it’s just a performative act that we all watch because we want what it used to be.

you're waaaaaaaay oversimplifying it
Tik tok is really addictive and it´s really hard to quit and "Just delete it" Since you really quickly notice that you probably won´t have anything else to do (English isn´t my native language so I hope you understand what I´m trying to say)
LMAO AGREED
This reminds me of the videos people are uploading now like

Also tumblr was so fun (is still fun for me as I’ve never left the hellsite) because you literally CANT be an influencer there. Like that’s just not how the site has or ever will work. Even the most popular blogs are just like normal people? I love how the site prides itself on not being profitable, it’s just very funny.
Scrolling the comments and I finally found a fellow Zillennial!!! We are a rare breed lol. I also graduated high school in 2014. Born in 1996. I honestly don’t miss 2014 at all.
Yes 👍🏻❤️
Same! The music in the 2010s was so goodddddd

I wish the 2010s music makes a comeback the way 80s music did
I love the music of that era so much

As an elder millennial, I also support this comment. We are just lucky that there is no evidence that we did the same thing
FRR, AND THEY GET MAD AT THEM FOR HAVING IPADS INFRONT OF OUR SCREEN WHEN WE HAD GAMEBOYS/NOKIA/ETC, LIKE WTF???????

I don't participate on any trends, but I actually like when people are curious about the past. It give's me hope people will start caring about living their lives for real and not just for the camera. People do really want to go back to a time without widespread phone addiction.
Hey now, us millennials were addicted to our phones too. We just had to choose between talking to our friends or having an Internet connection!

Instant flashbacks to Twenty One Pilots, Melanie Martinez, Lana Del Rey, Asetic Monkeys, etc;
The chokers, the docs, the blurry "aesthetic," photos, the romanticization of bruises and other very human and normal things. Everyone wanted a record player. Everyone was obsessed with 90's grunge but with a cool, modern twist on it. Tumblr was absolutely everythingggg. I still often look up "2014 tumblr aesthetic," and just reminisce :')
I actually do wish Gen Alpha got to experience it.

THANK YOU! they’re just being kids and mirroring what they see. gen z did the exact same thing by romanticizing the 2000’s when they were barely alive, and now gen alpha is doing the same thing. maybe if we don’t turn into what boomers did to us as we were kids, gen alpha will actually grow up to be themselves instead of bending to what they “should be.” especially in a time as chaotic as right now, we romanticize the past. it’s in our nature, and just because it makes you feel a little old (shut up you’re probably like 22 lol) doesn’t mean that gen alpha can’t have fun looking back at 2014.

Yeah. I was a pre-teen at that point, a few years younger than you, 2014 was the worst year of my life though. That whole era being romanticised is understandable but being made out to be different to what it was....still a very flawed world back then.

the "no ive been making them look this distressed, now that they are i have to keep going" mindset until things entirely fall apart and you must begin again. my poor converse went through it HARD bc of this 🤣🤣
I've noticed that "vintage" aesthetics have been popular for awhile now, so many people want to bring back styles from the past and I love it. I've been a part of living history clubs since i was a kid where alot of people choose to wear 1800's style as their everyday clothes and even change their house to be historically accurate. Modern aesthetics suck, "sad beige" being the worst it's dystopian af. I love dark academia, Harry Potter and cottagecore aesthetics all have a vintage vibe but also have a beautiful color palette.
vintage looking aesthetics are so prettyyy !
2014 is such a specific year. It's interesting to see people wanting to be a teenager when I was (mid 2000s-2010). But people in high school would say that they wish they were born in the 80s or 70s too. I guess every generation does that. Guilty as charged...

I miss that era. I wont lie. People knew how to build relationships still. People are weird now. 😢
in 2015 we were still listening to music from a 2000s RADIO and watching movies from DISCS that we would pay to borrow ..
SAMEEEEEE
Crying in millennial as I was in my mid 20’s in 2014 😭🙃
It is the return of my favourite Australian lady with the glasses on her head....
Edit: I feel old every time someone mentions 2014 even though I vividly remember what the hell that year besides popular stuff that made the headlines and popular UA-cam videos (I was 7 years old)
Another edit: Thx for the heart
HSKSHDKAHDKAH I FEEL BALD IF I DON’T WEAR GLASSES ON MY HEAD IDEK WHY 💀🤣🤣
@@HayloHayley I feel every video you always wear them classic glasses that I feel that I'm watching another creator when I don't see them
That's 2016 for me lol
Yo I was bouta say theres nun more Aussie then a Sheila with sunnies on her head all year round 🤣🤣
@@HayloHayley You know this is all Gen Z growing up. Everyone is equal. I can speak for both because I was born between 2010-2012.
Children in America scare me (WHY DO THEY LOOK 17??? MY COUSIN WAS BORN IN 2010 AND SHE LOOKS 13/14, NOT 17.)
BTW I don't live in America
Idk what gen alpha was given as babies ….. they look older than us
She was born in 2010 but looks 13/14. Ok 😂
@@oceanexblve884 not enough attention (joking)
I’m 14 I look 12
I was 15 in 2014 and it was a really good time to be a teen ngl but when I was a teen I wanted to be a teen in the 90s SOOO bad😂 it’s normal to wanna be apart of the previous generations
I’m ashamed to be a gen alpha since I’m pretty sure they moved up the age range, in my heart I’m still a gen Z cause I do NOT wanna be apart of this generation ☹️
I kept my instagram account that was active from 2011-2016, back when I was in college, and the difference is INCREDIBLE. We used to literally take pics of anything and post it. It's why I preserved the account entirely. It was such a different time, you just had to be there.
They still do, on snap
@@user-sg4ov7ng4h ....okay....??? So what?
I was talking about Instagram. There was a moment on INSTAGRAM where it was cool to post things that weren't perfectly curated, now its not. That's my point. Has nothing to do with snapchat. In fact, "post anything" on IG and "post anything" on snapchat are also two different experiences and contexts, so there was no point in you commenting this. what is your point?
