This is one of Zeppelin's greatest songs, and that's saying something for sure, as they have like 50 awesome tracks. The lyrics are from an old blues song from 1929 by Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy, about the great Mississippi flood of 1927. Robert Plant, Led Zeppelin's lead singer, was a great harmonica player. Great reaction as always
One of the many great things about Zep are the layers of musicality. It guarantees that you can relisten to a song many times and still find something new. This song is a reworking of the original song recorded in 1929 by Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy about the flood of the Mississippi Delta in 1927. It was part of the Great Migration which saw more African Americans come North for better opportunities ("go to Chicago"). There was a lot of production on this song. Bonzo's drums were set up in the entrance hall of the building they were staying at and recording in, with mics placed around and hanging above his drum kit to help get the sound in addition to the ambient sound of the room while also feeding it through a Binson Echorec and compressing the final product. Jimmy uses a slide to help give the guitar that stretchy sound and he and Jonesy used a modal structure to give the droning tone. Reverse echo was added to the harmonica and various effects were added to the vocals. If all this weren't enough, the vocals stayed at the same speed, however the instruments were slowed a half step in production to further assist with the sludgy, back water blues style sound. This song is a groove, it's menacing, it hits hard, almost bludgeoning you with intensity while the circular drone carves furrows in your brain. It is definitely a heavy banger.
Thank you for your reaction, Marie. If you don't have LZ's songs "Thank You", "Going To California", "Ramble On" and "The Battle of Evermore" on your list of songs to react to you should definitely add them ASAP! Keep up the great work!
You should probably start at album 1, song 1, and just rock em out. You will not be disappointed. You still look amazing,,, I imagine that’s just the norm 😍
I like your reaction to this and "Dazed and Confused". I think you would also like "How many more times" and "In my time of Dying". Well done videos. The right amount of playing and commentary. Thanks.
Great vid👍 I seen your Stairway to Heaven vid but I forgot to recommend a vid I think you would love? It's the band Heart and they did the cover of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center in 2015. Where the band Led Zeppelin was being honored for their contribution to music in America. The first lady in the president were there to watch it as well Barack and Michelle. It's was an emotional evening for all. Rock legends paying tribute to Rock gods! Love you channel ❤ peace
I just discovered your channel, and I just got to say, you're awesome! I watched a bunch of your Zeppelin reactions, and they're just fantastic! You really should consider going down the Beatles rabbit hole. They are the biggest selling musical artists of all time (by far) and I'm sure a lot of people would enjoy seeing your reactions to their music. If you do decide to explore the Beatles, I would like to recommend the first track you listen to. I suggest you check out the song "Don't Let Me Down". The studio track and live track are both great, and normally, I always recommend reactors listen to the studio tracks first, but in this case, I highly recommend you check out the live performance they did on the rooftop. I subscribed! Peace
Thank you so much for the kind words & for watching/subscribing😊I really appreciate🙏🏼& I’ll definitely add the Beatles to my list👌🏻👌🏻I’ve wanted to check them out for a while
This is my favorite Led Zeppelin song, appreciate you doing reaction videos ,I love watching you, you're very beautiful 😍, hope to see more of you, thank you Journey Marie 😊
Song about a terrible incident. Mississippi Delta flood in 1927. I love how versatile Led Zeppelin truly is. This is a mournful tune. The sounds you hear in the beginning is actually Robert Plant (vocalist of the band) playing the harmonica. Melodic bliss. You are 100% correct, there is a lot of moving parts in this track alone. Me (and probably other music/Led Zeppelin lovers) would have loved to be a fly on the wall in the production room.
Love Led Zeppelin and appreciate your reactions to their Classics. Looking forward to more reactions from you, hoping you do more NaS also Jimi Hendrix, The Doors & Prince. BTW you are simply Pulchritudinous!
Loved the reaction to this song of my youth the drums and the harmonica are fire in this blues cover. U can't go wrong with zeppelin. I would like to see you react to another fire band of the 60s and 70s. The energy and funk of the three man band of Grand Funk Railroad can't be beat. Give your self and your listeners a treat and react their live version of Inside Looking Out. You won't be disappointed
I read an Interview, Years ago . CREEM Mag. I think! Not sure. But Robert Plant, was Inspired by Someone Playing Harmonica in a Long Hotel Hallway. Next Day , went Back into the Studio .And even though the LP was Almost Complete, Plant Wanted to Add His Playing Harmonica to When the Levee Breaks! Apparently The Other Band members agreed that The Harmonica was Needed!
My first time to see you. You are very pretty and also interesting. When you have time, can you please play the song Fresh Air by Quick Silver Messanger Service?
Try Stevie Ray Vaughan "Texas Flood" live at the El Macombo or "Life without you" live at the Capitol theater. Another G.O.A.T. You won't be disappointed. You must see the live versions
For another magnificent take on the Blues, try them live at MSG 1973, from the Song Remains the Same concert movie, do Since I've Been Loving You. It is as amazing as this classic song. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
There are so many moving parts in a Led Zeppelin song
best drummer ever
my bit of urban legend history...they put the drums in stairwell of this old house they recorded in and that plus JB is the sound of those drums.
This is one of Zeppelin's greatest songs, and that's saying something for sure, as they have like 50 awesome tracks.

One of the most heavily sampled drum tracks in rock history. Closing song of the monumental 4th album.

You experienced the whirlpool in the end when everything started "going down"! Such a devastating groove.
