My dad listened to Michael Savage (real name Weiner) around the time he threw a fit over getting preempted on ONE STATION in New York, swearing up and down he was being censored by the left when the reality is he'd had plenty of warning that they were going to have to concentrate on local debates for one day, as was standard practice. The guy claimed to have walked out of a dinner party because another guest called Sarah Palin an idiot and he was just baffled by how anyone could think that. Despite ALWAYS being able to explain why he was wrong, what he was wrong about, what he was LYING about, my dad always believed him over me despite being told by everyone with an IQ above room temperature that he shouldn't listen to creatures like him. But my dad is - without even the slightest competition and in such a profound measure that I have lost entirely too much sleep terrified I was going to end up the same way - the dumbest person I have ever known. I'd be surprised if he hasn't gone full Trumper after my mom died two years ago (this month).

This comment cut painfully close to home. My late father, who was far and away *not* the dumbest person I've known (quite the contrary, actually), nevertheless became a big fan of this huckster. I never understood the appeal. Perhaps it was advancing age that made him susceptible, but it marked the beginning of a parting in the road for us, after which we could no longer discuss politics together, something we used to enjoy. It's still a sore spot for me.

Holy shit, hearing Michael Savage's voice unlocked an old memory from the 00's of my mom listening to his radio show a lot of days after picking me up from school.
Limbaugh, Savage, Levin, Bob Grant, the soundtrack in my dad's car growing up in the 90s. Somehow I survived.

He used to come in to the studio to do his show in SF until one day when, likely, his producer urinated in his cowboy hat and he didn’t notice till he tried to put it back on. He did his show remotely from then on.

Michael Savage is what turned me off of listening to Limbaugh’s channel on the car radio when I was younger. I heard him go on a screed against Muslims 2011 or so, and I was shocked that people were allowed to be that hateful on radio. To put it mildly, he wanted to “get rid of” all Muslims, if you catch my drift.
