      ironically, Shigaraki didn't even know about Pops. His glee would be through the roof if he knew how bad he'd actually fucked Overhaul there, but he didn't even know. There's not one person who knows the truth about the boss's condition. Overhaul alone understands that losing his quirk means he's lost his ability to undo what he did.

    One minor detail I really appreciate in this episode: Uravity grabbing Overhaul. She's the one to do it and she deliberately grabs his wrists, knowing how to deal with a villain who's got dangerous hand based powers. And that's because she's been thinking and training on how to deal with Shigaraki.

  • @alexinator-hh5fe

    Overhaul thought of most of his minions as useless pawns. Shigaraki thought of the League as a reliable group he could count on. He's learning as he encounters more people. Stain taught him that using other forces as stepping stones was valuable. Izuku reminded him of what his conviction was. Overhaul taught him the importance of patience. As he moves through the series, he grows as a villain. The League isn't one to be messed with. Next, it's their turn.

    Montana is in for a big surprise with Shigaraki, lmao. I feel like she, for some reason, doesn't see yet that his character journey (right now) is all about becoming a good leader and villain. The whole scene with him showing his face to the League and trusing the Temp Squad was to show that while he has less experience than Overhaul, at the core he's a better leader who values and trusts his teammates.

    • @satiramalek2572
      @satiramalek2572 26 днів тому +14

      i think she views him just as " a villian to be defeated like ALL the others " and not as an individual character with an arc and a journey yet. thus, she doesn't really care/wants to care about him

    • @grinstrashcan
      @grinstrashcan 26 днів тому +9

      @@satiramalek2572Sure, but that kind of attitude towards characters still can coexist with understanding simple things about them and about how stories work. Again, I'm just confused that she made that conclusion after the scene with the Temp Squad. That entire moment basically exists to scream in our faces that Shigaraki is bonding with the League and is making good leadership decisions (hints of which were already shown at the start of the season when Shigaraki told the League not to attack Overhaul and realised that he doesn't get to retry things now that AFO is gone).
      And about Shigaraki being just a villain and not an individual character... Shigaraki is clearly being set up as Deku's personal antagonist with episodes being named after the two, their encounter at the mall, their 'OFAFO Successors' parallel, and the fact that even in this arc both of them 'fight' against the same villain. Soooo, the story is _already_ putting him into a special individual spotlight.
      But maybe if she doesn't really care, then she doesn't remember any of that, including the Temp Squad scene.

      @grinstrashcan i think so ... like she sees a cool scene of the villains, gives her opinion on it, then her brain goes " but at the end of it they're JUST villains so who cares " and moves on
      the only one i THINK is currently out of this routine is twice , which is better than nothing ig
      all of which is why I'm really intrigued to see her reaction to the mva
      because there , she WILL care , she just has to

      @grinstrashcan 25 днів тому +2

      @@satiramalek2572 returning to this again, I just wanna add that I feel like the anime itself is also to blame for this tbh? The Temp Squad moment (specifically, the page with Shigaraki's face) feels much more impactful in the manga due to how open and almost _gentle_ Shigaraki's expression was. The anime removed him smiling, for some reason? It was the first time we ever saw him with a normal genuine smile and not a crazy or angry face. One might say that it's the first time he actually felt human.
      That face was *not* translated into the anime well, so the moment falls a little bit flat.

    As more experienced nurse I can see the monitors and I can easily say that they portrayed them accuretly as the readings. Also when we know that the person is going to die, we mute the monitors. The scenario is painful enough for family and friends and potential staff that the monitors screaming is not needed.
    Also due to ICU restrictions, only few are allowed to see or hear about the patient unlike in the regular ward. It's pretty much 1-2 family members and that's about it. ICU units are very extreme experience for people with no background in it and feeling panic in there is not unusual.

    “Now you don’t even have a thumb to suck on” is SO FUNNY I REWOUND THAT CRAP SO MANY TIMES
    At this point I was starting to recognize that Shigaraki is getting a ‘Hero’s Journey’ of his own that directly parallels Deku’s, so he was rapidly rising in rank, but this episode is where he became my second favorite right behind Aizawa.
    I just LIVE for his character. He has some hilarious quips, and it’s such a fascinating feeling to watch him growing in power and maturity/intelligence. Because on one hand, he’s a terrible person and the enemy of the main character, whom you love. But on the other hand, he’s also a secondary main character himself (as I mentioned, his arc also follows a clear Hero’s Journey outline) so you also feel proud and accomplished when he succeeds just like you do with Deku.
    I know this is by no means the only show to do this, but this is the show that REALLY nails it in my opinion. I’ve never seen a show in which I absolutely adore and root for both the main character and the villain to this extent.

    This is just one of the BIGGEST tear jerkers in the entire series. It’s just a nonstop punch to the gut after all that insane whiplash and insanity from last episode. Right when you need a nap this show decides to just give you EVERYTHING it can to make you cry.
    This scene with Chrono has always been one of the stranger ones to me. He specifically goes out of his way to capture Aizawa alive then immediately goes to stab him with a knife when he starts to think Overhaul is losing. Now I’m going to assume him blind folding Aizawa was to prevent erasures obviously. But the ONLY thing that makes sense to me is he wants to gouge out Aizawa’s eyes for research on Erasure. But it’s weird in this environment with no preservatives nearby. And if it WAS to kill him…WHY CAPTURE HIM?! Either way Amajiki is back to stop him and use the swordfish he was given at the beginning of the raid by Fat Gum.
    It has to be so surreal to hear gigantic explosions in the background of all these scenes only for Tsu to run over to Amajiki and say yeah that’s DEKU. That guy a head shorter than you Mirio gets along with? That guy is causing this FROM CLOUD SPACE AND YOU’RE FEELING THE TREMORS UNDERGROUND LIKE IT WAS RIGHT NEXT TO YOU.
    So all that crazy battle strategy I mentioned last time Deku was doing balancing his timing with not just Overhaul but ALSO ERI, Deku in real time just being at nonstop brain levels even with all the TREMENDOUS pain he’s under AND his own power balancing still. What a freaking amazing kid. And once the battle subsides? Deku gets completely OVERWHELMED by the power of rewind STILL outpacing this much in the battle and there’s no end in sight to how much she can use her quirk while it’s active. And I would SAY worse when Overhaul tries to squish Eri and Deku but only gets rewound out of his kaiju form and arrested immediately by Uraraka. (More proof Overhaul really DID get decapitated by Deku when he was punched in the face.) And now there’s only the slightest of chances that Aizawa can manage to stop Deku from getting killed by Eri. (And Deku STILL protects her head as she passes out the INSTANT she falls over.)
    Some people get confused why Aizawa apologizes to Deku as he saves his life. But from Aizawa’s perspective, he was supposed to tag team Overhaul with Deku before ANY of the body monstrosity forms were made. And when he finally gets back to Deku, he finds him crumbled on the ground crying in agony after soloing the final boss on his own under the WORST pressure. Not that Aizawa protecting him from Chrono was the wrong move, but MAN that has to be messed up confirmation.
    And it’s ALWAYS rough watching all these injured people get dragged away from the scene. For the heroes AND villains. (Centipeder meant well but Rappa probably does NOT appreciate getting tightly bound and all the pressure on broken arms.) The body cast made for Kirishima, and just SO many bandages for everyone. And Nighteye gets to do SOME clean up by telling Deku that he changed the future. And that just fills Nighteye AND Deku with optimism. Eri gets taken to the hospital and is safe at long last.
    But we get the League of Villains storming the police escort holding Overhaul. And this is SUCH a long time coming as the League has wanted this since Overhaul killed Magne. They got him weakened and defeated. Toga LOVED watching Deku and instead of trying to take more blood from him swoons like a high schooler to Compress. Twice is just SCREAMING. (I think they’re getting out of villain costume so they can leave the scene easier. Twice is NOT happy to be out of his suit.) Shigaraki wants to make a shogi play with Dabi trying to recap rules to him. (All of the league are gamers I swear. I knew Spinner was but Dabi seems to like it a lot too.) They’re planning what they want to say to Overhaul when they get him.
    But they oddly come across the single best hero to face them shockingly. Snatch the sand hero is good for decay, cremation, compress, transform, AND gecko. But like the Reservoir Dogs Overhaul fused to the truck, they overpowered the hero just by making blind spots and going from behind making short work of him sadly. Compress got the wheel and the road, and Dabi surrounded him with fire until Snatch was just eliminated by one last Compress. Shame. That sand dragon was great. Still sad as he tried to fight for the honor of those Dabi killed.
    And then there’s just Shigaraki instead of making a personal shogi reference just goes FULL AFO on Overhaul. Torturing him with an audience and ripping away EVERYTHING he wanted essentially for the whole police force to hear. Stealing the deleters AND the serums. And then letting Compress rip off one arm for the one Overhaul ripped off…and letting Shigaraki commit the final blow ripping off the other making him quirkless, and the true confirmation Overhaul can no longer save the Hassaikai boss. Effectively killing him. Overhaul wanted to rule over Japan like AFO did, then became victim to AFO’s disciple taking away everything he’s ever held dear, his power, and leaving him ALIVE to be in abject HORROR. The EXACT same thing AFO did to All-Might in their fight. Shigaraki is STEPPING UP and reminds us HE is more the main villain than AFO. The league is satisfied and happy to FINALLY get the revenge they all so desperately desired. What an A grade scene listening to that final scream.
    And then there’s the pin that ALWAYS has to be dropped. Deku after an incident. Let’s see how they botched it this time. Oh god there’s some doozies. Police captain says Deku needs a hospital like Eri does BUT FORGETS TO HAVE EMS LOOK AT HIM ON THE SCENE AND SENDS THEM EVERYWHERE BUT TO DEKU. Ryukyu looks at all the collateral before her and says yeah this is a lot. And we can’t throw a party. But thanks. END OF CONVERSATION. And when he DOES get to the hospital….oh my GOD. Doctor clears him. Says you got weird injuries still. (So the Dabi burn and the ligament degrading are still present. Personally I’d have the doctor look at Deku’s chart and say HOW DO YOU HAVE ARMS.) Apparently not enough concern for the doctor to ACTUALLY finish his check up and Aizawa takes over to ease his concerns…by showing him everything that happened everytime he turned his back. And Eri is having a panic attack in the hospital because it’s probably not that different an environment from Overhaul’s lab. (She’s in no shape as of now to make dragon ball wishes I assure you.) Then he says cool that you can break your body faster than she can rewind And THEN…he takes him to Nighteye so they can all watch him pass away. Deku gets comfort in knowing yes. But after EVERYTHING all this is can only burden him even MORE than EVERYTHING HE’S DONE.
    And then there’s Nighteye’s passing scene. I can only assume Centipeter and Bubble Girl were making every arrangement they could to save him during the day between Recovery Girl showing up and multiple doctors working on Nighteye. They must have said their goodbyes and peace before this conversation. And I think Bubble Girl knows not EVERYTHING but more than she lets on regarding since she called All-Might and Deku to his last conversation specifically. (I really do think she and Nighteye could have been a couple. There’s a few hints like her being jealous of Mirio and him always splitting off with her like Fred and Daphne in Scooby doo.) She must have also told Mirio who decided to walk in with a full leg cast on and no crutches.
    All-Might tries to apologize with Deku praying for him to live. But Nighteye wanted to look at what CAN be done rather than what can’t. He has an All-Might injury to match and a Deku arm loss to match. He knew All-Might wouldn’t be happy by trying to avoid the field he so DESPERATELY wanted to be on. And he couldn’t fight for HIMSELF without doing that. So All-Might is forgiven. And Deku won his competition with Nighteye to prove the worthiness of OFA. And he thinks of the most optimistic outcome possible to say what he saw. (And no one informed Nighteye of Eri’s rewind. But he clearly saw Deku as the one person standing for EVERYONE. The EMBODIMENT of OFA willpower. And optimism and certainty brings defiance to the gloom. While he surrendered to it. But I’ll still say his ignorance of Eri is his bliss too.) And now…all he has left…is to say goodbye to his prize student. Freed of the expectations of being an OFA holder, Nighteye gets to appreciate Mirio for all he is as someone that can be his own symbol. And he will be fine. Nighteye uses foresight not to strip his free will. But to secure his future and give him hope for a brighter tomorrow. Every shot of encouragement he gives, you see his heartbeats slow with one last wish. “Work hard. And be sure to smile. After all without joy and laughter to balance the sorrow, this world cannot hope to have a bright future.” And he dies with an All-Might smile on his face as he dies with no regrets, with optimism, with care and love that remain, and leaving behind the world to decide their own futures from now on.
    This BROKE me and I could barely write the line through my tears. Deku is crying, Bubble Girl is crying, Mirio is crying, and All-Might breaks and cries here too. I just CAN’T. His dying words are among my favorite lines in the show and they even setup EVERYTHING the next arc does. As this arc has been nothing but sorrow. It encapsulates this show SO well. Just an absolute masterpiece episode.

      @@haydenberends3905 Magne literally caused the full revenge arc for the league though. I’d say she was the 1st big one. Nighteye is DEFINITELY bigger.
      As for Aizawa using erasure on Eri being reason to apologize? Why would that be the reason? Erasure is like turning off a limb which is why it feels so weird to villains, but in Eri’s case if anything her quirk was causing herself more harm than anything.

    4:02 There are style guides, dedicated cleanup artists and character sheets and stuff to keep people "on model". the work done by those action animators is mostly a movement thing/key poses, the "flow" of it. there are more steps after that on the pipeline. as seen recently with scenes from the last season of MHA itself, the work of those individual animators _isn't always honored,_ either. sometimes budget and time get in the way, and the studio goes with a "simpler" scene. it's a lot of work, and there are multiple steps to the pipeline, so yeah. their job is to make things flow well, and do the first 80%, trying to guarantee that the main beats of a scene are portrayed well and the story is being treated with respect. the main art style can be adjusted on top of their work on later steps of the pipeline, and there are lots of revisions and QC. it's still awesome skill above anything the average animator can hope to achieve, though.

I liked his philosophies, his traumas, and I appreciate his quirk and fighting WAY more now too. But with the nature of his quirk, you can’t rely on him either. And killing him off made the most sense while putting his mindset to the ultimate test. But I do get in a world full of so many bombastic personalities, his stiffness and mean spirited nature to Deku can be a bit much for some.

    I don't think Eri's quirk has a role at all with the reason why things didn't turn out how Nighteye saw and was more about Deku's generic anime optimism and willpower. Nighteye's future vision caused him to see negative things that he wasn't able to change, which caused him to develop a cynical fatalist mindset, which in a cruel loop hampers the visions he gets. I think this is the more likely reason, especially given details revealed about how quirks can heavily influence one's personality as we'll see with a certain character we know in a future episode.

    Eri being the reason the future changed makes much more sense than everyone's willpower changing it. I don't think it'll really be relevant to the plot going forward, though. The only character who could see the future is dead now so there's not really any way to know when or if the future changes again. Which was a very good writing decision because if he had lived we'd constantly be wanting him to look at the future.
    Next arc is fun. It's really nice to take a good long break from fighting the really evil villains. We get to know everyone a little more and see them get to be teenagers for once.

Then using the power that he nearly never uses on other people, to see just their future no matter how far off, selfishly for once, just to see Mirios future that he wont see himself.
