Finally, Gentle Criminal! My top 5 is complete!
1) Deku
2) LeMillion
3) All Might
4) Best Jeanist
5) Gentle Criminal
Eri: “What’s a festival?”….. Mirio: ”A school festival is a festival that happens at our school”…..Eri “How does that answer my question!!!”
Sassy Eri would be the funniest freaking thing. Imagine if instead of asking for Mirio and the other guy who saved me, and she asked for Mirio and the guy who was spinning me like a top for in the air. (Still confused how she came out as unscathed as she did being on his back outside her rewind working on herself.)
@@Kaempfdog Eri being sassier when she's older is super funny ngl
Mha equivalent of “people die when they are killed”
Lol reminds me when of Naruto when Sakura was condescending to Naruto....
Naruto : What kind of race is this ?
Sakura: you know... the kind of race with a start and finish line !
Naruto: .... thx Sakura...
I thought it was weird the way he phrased that. 😅
the gentle criminal arc is unironically one of my favorite in the whole show
He my top he amzing❤
Same here!!
I have a newfound appreciation for it now.
YEAH i really like his arc
The fact that she strains herself to smile is just really sad. I know she’s in a safer place, but there’s still a lot of trauma to work through. On a brighter note though, it’s nice to see these kids acting like kids more.
How terrifying that not being able to wiggle your ears with no knowledge on what muscles to use, or curling your tongue, can apply to someone SMILING. Much less a 6 year old!
I love how supportive Kaminari can be for his friends (during and outside combat), and how he admires Jiro's musical talent without any bad judgement.
The dynamics between the students of Class 1-A are always fun to see!
Forreal. 1-A's one of the best ensemble casts I've ever seen.
Just as a few cultural infos:
„Maidcafes“ are very common in Japan and maid cafes/ butler cafes/ cross dressing maid cafes (which is the one in Mirios Imagine panel) are actually often done at school festivals. They are not necessarily considered something sexual but rather cute and fun, as maids will usually do some chants, spells and also games, make cute food designs and have detailed costumes.
Kaminari just imagines himself as the center of it, cause he likes cute girls (as stated by him) and is a hormonal 16 year old. However this is later kinda part of his character development by becoming more serious and less shallow and getting closer to someone else.
Also while Minetas actions are terrible, the joke in the series lies not in what he does, but within how he usually gets a savage response or gets pummelled right afterwards by his classmates.
That said, Mineta later also gets some character development/ grows up (cause he’s also still just a kid), that you might not catch, because you didn’t catch it in the exam ep vs Midnight. He thinks only good looking people or famous people are popular, hence why he wanted to become a hero.
Deku (the plain, bullied kid , shaking in his boots) has kinda changed his opinion already.
That said, I usually also hate the pervy character in anime (especially because mineta is one of the very few, who is a child and not a grandfather harassing 14 years old *caugh* Muten Roshi *caugh*) but the recent Manga chapters have changed my opinion a bit about Mineta… and I really thought that wasn’t possible.
Also Minetas quirk in Japanese is not called „sticky balls“ it’s „mugi mugi“ which is another name for the fruit bubbles in bubble tea and his costume is supposed to be grapes in a ball. Mineta also has a much cuter voice in Japanese, which is played as a joke as well, because it contrasts his gross personality. That said I think a few of the things he did and said, should have gotten him expelled 😂
I think they misread Kaminari's suggestion. It's not that bad.
@@haydenberends3905 yeah that’s what I was trying to explain:D
I love Eri's English VA, she captures her innocence and adorableness so perfectly.
The "eri struggling to smile" bit is honestly cute but in the saddest way
Forreal. Rare for something to make me tears up in different ways. 😢🥲
I honestly don't understand people, okay this arc has "less action" but that doesn't make it bad, in fact I quite like it.
It also has one of my favorite deku vs villain fights.
I love his villain he sweet keep going king
Personally this is my least favorite arc. Not bc it's bad I would honestly prefer if it was just this arc. Like what makes it unmemorable and not as good FOR ME is gentle and la brava. I just personally dislike them and would've loved to see the focus of the arc be on just Eri, Mirio, and Deku, as well as just seeing them relax and plan out the festival. Like personally I'd prefer if it stayed slower. Take out Gentle and keep the focus on the festival and give the group a break and rest. That's my reasoning for why I PERSONALLY don't love this arc. I love the festival just not the added things.
I feel like whenever Eri smiles the healing will pick up a little. I honestly can’t wait to see her ten years from now, because I’m sure she’ll be a lot better!
Bro, don't. They changed your dialogue in that scene for the better in English. Do not push it.
I pay money to see Eri interact with Nezuko, Komi, and Mitsuri and all of them in a play date
Throw Anya into the mix, and you've got yourself a deal. 🤝
Someone make fan art of that right away!
So you want the "Touch any of these characters and I'll burn the entire earth to cinders" play date
@@aceofspade2120what does that mean? It sounds something a villain would say. It should say, “touch any of them with ill intent and you will not walk out unscathed.”
While I can see why someone wouldn't really like how low-stakes and slower than usual this arc is, I don't really mind it, and actually enjoy it quite a bit. Despite it being a bit slower and the stakes being lower than even most of MHA's breather arcs, this is still important for several characters, building even stronger bonds between them and showing another part of hero society that we haven't really seen before. I get why someone would want the momentum of the Shie Hassaikai arc to continue, but I was happy we got a moment to breathe after that madness.
I thought it was a nice and much deserved break after the last arc
It’s actually an arc full of foreshadowing that will be revealed in season 7 :)
Hori always places a bunch of important info in casual settings as well.
Also the biggest fight in the very last episode of season 4 and it is such a cool curveball.
I love this arc. The concert always puts a smile on my face (both for the performance itself and related events), and I feel that Deku learns one of his most important lessons so far.
I loved seeing eri get excited fir the festival still one of her best scenes
Gentle and La Brava have been my favorite villains of the series.
Me too they are badass and sweet
They aren't even really villains, just less serious antagonists.
Doesn't make them any less likable.
@@haydenberends3905No, it is important to note that in the eyes of MHA's society, even La Brava and Gentle are considered villains
*Yeah, just because Eri’s in a safer place now doesn’t mean she’s been “saved” just yet. Her struggling to smile was so sad.*
During this rewatch, I've come to the conclusion that Iida might be the FUNNIEST character in the show. 🤣🤣🤣
All his reactions to his classmates' ideas are just GOLD! 😅
Edit I: Also love how he and Yaoyarozu had equally mundane ideas. (Local history presentation and group study session? Really, guys?) They're kinda perfect for each other.
Edit II: Also also, Iida had funny retorts to all his peers' suggestions, but I really liked his responses to Midoriya's and Todoroki's:
M: "A Hero quiz!"
I: "As I'd expect from you!"
T: "Soba stall."
I: "It is your favorite!"
Like, no one really talks about it, but these three might be the best trio in the show (maybe tied with Midoriya, Ururaka, and Iida). They just have SUCH a great comradery, DEFINITELY better than Midoriya, Bakugo, and Todoroki.
Legit, Iida is the most shippable character in the show. As a neurodivergent person (who super feels like Iida is autistic) I love that he’s got such a wonderful chemistry with everyone
@echonvoid Yeah, you're right. I could see him with Momo, Hatsume, Ururaka, to name a few. He just bounces off ANYONE well.
Honestly, when I started the show I actually ship him a lot with Momo. I mean when Momo pointed Iida's mistakes he was kind of blushing.
And Momo canonically thinks whenever Iida acts up is cute.
Honestly I agree Iida is great and has a lot of funny moments (he had a secret gag in the camp arc where he couldn't find the potato peeler) and yeah I love his dynamic with Todoroki and Deku.
I honestly think Todoroki is super funny too. Which is ironic
@@gregovaromoreno6318 When are those first two scenes you mentioned? I can't remember anything like that happening.
@@haydenberends3905 the first one happen when Momo was explaining why Iida and Bakugo lost against Uraraka and Deku and why Iida is the only one that actually took the task with seriousness.
The other one was in the first ova I think when All Might acted like a villain after the USJ incident, they were in a rescue training where Iida, Uraraka and I think Asui where acting like the victims. So they were in pit and Uraraka had to act like if she was unconscious. And Iida as the guy asking for help. And he took it seriously and Uraraka couldn't stop laughing.
Momo ask her why was that and she explained to her and she responded:
"I actually think that's kind of cute"
I mean is been almost seven years since I watched that last scene, so maybe I'm recalling things the wrong way
I like the change in the class.
When Aizawa told them about the other events, they were like:
"Normal stuff"
And now after all, they actually want it.
I personally like when stories just show characters having fun. I would have been completely okay with this arc not having villains, just the class hanging around getting closer to each other and letting us now more about them.
kaminari and jiro might be my favorite semi-canon ( 90% canon ) ship in the series ngl
their dynamic is so unique especially for a shounen and they just genuinely make me happy
Same, they're my OTP.😊
Same, they're so cute together ♡
So you've now met Gentle Criminal and La Brava.
Fun fact, they're actually around the same age, like in their twenties I believe.
Gentle just looks much older because of his hair, and La Brava looks younger because she's so short, but they're actually close in age.
Gentle is 32, La Brava is 21.
@@x2ombie1337 Right, knew it was somewhere in that ballpark. Thanks.
There are so many wonderful character building, world building, and plot building things happening in this arc that unfold so naturally just through some kids trying to cheer up their peers. I'm noticing it even more now than when it came out. What a beautiful little arc.
The people who GENUINELY dislike this arc just because it's low on action really need to lighten up.
If you've gotten this far in the series, you've got to be at least a LITTLE invested in the characters, so this should be at minimum bearable to watch in that regard. It's just fun! There's nothing wrong with fun!
And it's not even just fun. It caps off the overhaul storyline by finally starting to undo some of the harm, gives multiple people character development, and even if all you're interested in is heroes fighting villains, you get a skill test for Deku fighting a villian with an interesting power, showcasing everything he's learned in the past few arcs and how much he's grown from his fight with Muscular, when he nearly killed himself to get the win.
Personally, I'm always a fan of when stories take some time to breath between major arcs. The stakes don't always need ramp up and up and up until you eventually stop caring. Yes, Gentle is not particularly strong, and not remotely dangerous. Literally any other villian in the series would probably offscreen him. But he's a great foil to Deku, a relatable motivation, good backstory, and the battle is really good. Could it have used a little paring down? Probably. But the people who think the whole arc is a waste of time are crazy.
People that actively dislike the Culture Festival arc simply don't pass the vibe check.
@@PhantomNull13 Don't be too quick to dismiss Gentle. His Quirk is pretty versatile. I doubt he could beat anyone in the League of Villains or any other antagonists, but he'd certainly give them a run for their money.
@@JackHarlowComboMeal Aye
@@haydenberends3905 I definitely think he's good. That Deku needed Air Force is genuinely impressive. But among the named villains, the only ones he would have a chance against are Toga (pre season 5 for obvious reasons), and Spinner. And Toga is questionable.
But he beat multiple heros at once, and Deku post overhaul is genuinely a powerful fighter, and he matched up blow for blow. It's just compared to the past enemies Deku has fought (Stain, Muscular, Bakugo, Overhaul), he comes up short, even with La Brava's support
There are a lot of restrictions on public quirk use but people still do use thier quirks for all kinds of things daily in this world
2:42 impressive dancing
Though Gentle is mostly funny, it's chilling when he has the video cut to black to censor his own violence and next we see he's just soloed six pros.
The school festival arc has started! I won’t give away too much on this arc as a whole but be prepped for getting called out. Horikoshi is lowkey brutal to everyone in a tongue in cheek way. That and it continues the fulfillment of Nighteye’s last words. (Those words just encapsulate this show SO well.)
I think they reused the opening from the beginning of the season with Deku running through the rain puddles and the monologue that quite frankly could just be used at the beginning of every season. (Not that I want us left without the 1st episode of this season which was nothing but fluff but GLORIOUS fluff. (Momo in this intro with her half shut eyes looks like she just tattled on someone. And I don’t know why that’s so funny. If you have a little sibling, you KNOW that look.)
Mina has quietly been dancing around the entire show from convincing the people Kirishima was trying to stop in his big episode with Rappa, and in so many other moments. She’s just vibing but it’s like she’s going out of her way to draw attention to it today. Like she wants everyone to relax and have fun. And Deku…pulls out his notebook and starts to analyze how that works for herself as a hero and in general. Nope. Never heard of that before. No one would EVER. I tried. This is the 1st time I came up empty handed on those basic dance moves she was teaching Deku and Aoyama. But I did find that she does do flares, windmills, backspins and other official breakdancing moves. I watched a guy do a step by step process and I thought my spine was going to break watching him. Which I ASSUME is the “break” in breakdancing.
Then we got Kaminari comparing that to Jiro’s crazy music studio for a room. Unlike Mina, she keeps her hobby in music and her career path separate and is even embarrassed to have it brought up at all. To the point where Kaminari even praising her passion AND just genuinely wanting to learn more makes her tense up and shut down the whole conversation. Kaminari had NO IDEA this was a sore spot for her because her room looks DECKED OUT with that music gear EVERYWHERE.
Aizawa says school festival and proceeds to pass out. Never mind it’s an Iida class. What can go wrong? I paused with him standing next to Momo with his teeth clenched mid sentence and DIED laughing because if we saw school pictures from a picture book I PRAY Iida’s would look that iconic. Frazzled hair, dramatic camera shot, and his face is GOLD. And he goes for a democratic process which worked HORRIFICALLY last time to get ideas and process through all the way since “Emergency Exit Iida” was still a thing. How can this be ruined?
Kaminari wants a maid cafe. Well good thing he’s handsome otherwise this would probably tick people off. Ok. Well the double standard is back. Can we PLEASE acknowledge Kaminari is apart of almost EVERY Mineta moment. (Not all. And Mineta does plenty on his own. But people in the show specifically go out of their way to keep him in check.) The two are BOTH sleazy not just Mineta. Worst of all being the cheerleader stunt. And although a failure, they wanted a pool stunt in season 3. They PLANNED that. But ONLY Mineta gets the scorn. I don’t object to how Mineta is handled because of the Horikoshi mic and self awareness, I don’t object to Mineta getting comeuppance. (He’s DESIGNED to be put in his place and STILL convinces me he has hope as a detective and containment class hero.) But Kaminari AVOIDING a lot of scorn bugs me both from the audience AND the cast. It’s just…off.
Ok. Iida doesn’t know what a fun house is, maid cafe blows over his head (which did get me to laugh. He acts like he would take part or enlist the boys in it too. Which would be a HILARIOUS backfire on Kaminari) and the way he delivers as expected when Deku asks for a hero quiz. (Iida and Deku are best friends change my mind. They always know what the other is thinking and I love that SO much.) Mochi shop, arm wrestling competition, disco, a creamery, crapery, bakery? (That one blew over my head actually but I think I got the idea just getting autocorrected a jillion times) Frog song in a round…I gotta assume Tsu knows like 100 knowing what her family looks like. Petting zoo? (Iida said no to that. “Also a suggestion” is one of my favorite ways to say no) Soba stall, and then Bakugo, Tokoyami, and Aoyama just go WILD. Fight to the death, mad banquet of darkness, and twinkling extravaganza. I DIED laughing to that because you think Bakugo you’d think is the eternal outlier with “King Explosion Murder” but then Tokoyami and Aoyama are just like nahhhh we won’t leave that alone. And Iida’s response of “Unexpected for a festival,” laughs at Tokoyami, and just DERAILS to befuddlement by Aoyama. And YOU KNOW he seriously wrote every option down instantaneously no matter how silly the answer. And I’m going to assume for Mineta he wrote “A tople-“ (I think Mineta is actually “Boo” with no other info) and is now thinking WHY DIDN’T HE FINISH?! with Momo quietly erasing it. Either that or he’ll be carrying Mineta around by his cheeks for the rest of the day.
And Aizawa setting up a class on stage is also hilarious. No one would be happy with Class A, but no one would blame them either because it’s AIZAWA.
And PLEASE show us more Todoroki and Bakugo in disco gear when they finally decided on a concert of sorts. I can only assume we thank Camie for introducing Todoroki to the concept. (So she likely tried and failed to ask him to a concert by my guess with him having no idea what it was) Because I’m just starting to think all the serious people in class have a PRETTY foreign concept of the outside world or hearing about what others do being their age. Or maybe we just need a fight to the death after all. It’s not a bad stress relief for Bakugo at least.
Aaaand as Mina shows off she CAN teach better than All-Might (low bar but 1st year students getting that kinda result in a day is impressive) and Aoyama now being relatively competent at dancing, that leaves us with music. Jiro kinda feels cornered by everyone asking her to help perform. And she gets kinda dragged in. (Kaminari being the surprise convincer more than anyone.)
We FINALLY get more Eri after days of fitful fevers, panic attacks and round the clock hospital care following the Overhaul raid. She asks for Lemillion and Deku, without even knowing Deku by his name because he kinda just threw himself into ground zero without even saying “I am here!” And she doesn’t even get to ask about Nighteye who was impaled right before her eyes. Aizawa says it’s too cruel to inform her now, but there’s no way she didn’t see it happen. Deku was getting them out and they all froze when Nighteye got stabbed. She has a FRIGHTENING concept of death for her age much more PERSONAL. She’s been in hell so long that she can’t even smile. She doesn’t know how to use the right muscles to smile at all like how someone doesn’t know how to wiggle their ears or curling their tongue. Which is…HORRIFYING. Just because you get someone out of a bad environment by NO means prevents that environment from hurting you more.
So it might be time to introduce a new environment for her where she can be spared of her triggers. Hospitals likely won’t be something she wants to be near til she gets therapy if I’m gonna guess. And Deku can’t think of a better motivation than to help her see the UA school festival. Aizawa is silently thrilled with the idea. That’s the most positive tones I’ve heard from him in a while. And Mirio since he’s on break (he’s not suspended or anything. Pretty sure he still has free rein on campus and probably can do the normal classes and the no quirk workouts.) he wants to personally babysit Eri while she’s out and about. And I’m pretty sure he calls it a date to just mess with Deku and Aizawa. He likes to do that.
And we get the introduction of Gentle Criminal! Who is just…one of the BEST. I know La Brava (which is just SO much fun to say) says he doesn’t get views, but let’s be honest. UA-cam viewers in MHA have NO taste if he’s not just a SMASHING success for being the 3 stooges, Inspector Clouseau, with a side of…just that AMAZING coat all rolled up with a fabulous moostache making one of the funniest heists and making it look like he immediately surrenders, only to go full Batman cutting away any fight scenes. And in that teapot? His gadgets. Without question. No utility belt. That’s just too obvious. He’ll be much more discrete. (How can anyone be THAT bad at pouring tea.) He leaves the store bouncing and prepares to be written down in all of history.
I love this arc. It’s good to see the kids having fun and not 50 layers of stress on top of it for once.
During this rewatch, I've come to the conclusion that Iida might be the FUNNIEST character in the show.
His reactions to all his classmates' ideas in this episode are gold. 🤣🤣
Also, I love how he and Momo had equally mundane ideas. (Local history presentation and group study session? Really guys?) And Momo's disappointment to her idea getting shot down is low-key adorable. Those two deserve each other.
@@haydenberends3905 Iida is such a fantastic character. You never have to change his behavior all that much because his seriousness can be as applicable or unapplicable as you want. The fact he shares a voice actor with FMA Scar of all people just makes it even better.
I don’t know what’s funnier. Him trying to gain control of the class like a judge in a courtroom, him saying to Bakugo’s fight to the death “unexpected for a festival” or him ACTUALLY laughing at Tokoyami’s suggestion.
@Kaempfdog Forreal. He's a freaking RIOT when he bounces off the eccentric personalities in this series. My favorite's gotta be him and Hatsume. Just a perfect "order-meets-chaos" dynamic. 🤣
@@haydenberends3905 Mei’s dream guy would be a car man that can be equipped with just about everything and it be applicable. If she were even the slightest less focused on her career or has her job all sorted out, she would likely be trying to go for Iida. Just a hunch. They’re both so focused on their jobs and they compliment each others work really well. And I don’t think it would work with anyone less focused on their work. That’s just me anyway.
I think the reason why Kaminari is less ridiculed than Mineta in universe is because while he is perverted he is a lot more tame in the sense that he hasn’t tried peeking on the girls while they’re changing and unless I’m misremembering he never made any comments on the girls assets so he is basically a normal teenage boy that likes girls while Mineta goes off into the deep end
I love Gentle. He's so funny. He's a UA-camr that posts his crimes.

I really like him, honestly I like him much more than his Japanese voice actor. He sounds familiar, does anyone know where he appears? Not really into watching anime in English, so I don't know.
And I love how he pronounce La Brava's name.
Like is pronounced without thinking, is a name that no romance language speaker (mainly Spanish and Italian, maybe French but not really sure) could pronounce without thinking. And he pronounce it so good.

I think this is the episode with Minetas worst comment😥. (Or the next)
I think it’s next. And it’s bad, but I think him nationally humiliating class 1-A by tricking the girls into cheerleader uniforms is his worst moment. His ogling is bad, but dragging an entire country of people watching into that is a COMPLETELY different story.
It's not as bad in English. I'll elaborate when that moment comes.
