    In my 45 years of buying and selling synths, of which some are / were real exotic monsters like M12, PPG2.3, Prophet 5, VS, Polaris, MiniMoogs and much much more, the Virus TI stands it's grounds and is still present in my studio.

    I love the expression of the simplicity of the concept Martin: just a root and fifth, and debugging (fixing the internal clipping). I think when we see “professional designer patches” from famous names in the marketing of most synthesizers it might make us feel unqualified to design our own patches and we begin to use a VST synth for example as a patch browser which may prevent some opportunities.

      When I was very young 50 years ago at one point I found a cardboard box in the back of a cabinet in my school’s music classroom of Bakelite electronics cases with many 1/4” patch cords. As I investigated I discovered they were synthesizer “black box” components forgotten and of no interest to other students. This was a real find for me. They had knobs and were labeled OSC, ENV, LO, HI, GATE, RNG etc. I began to experiment with plugging them into the famous wedge shaped Yamaha guitar amp. That was simplicity.

    • @actualkevin
      @actualkevin 11 місяців тому

      I tried to accomplish something similar to this today with a VST and I will need more practice because it’s a lot more complicated to achieve simplicity than it might seem.

      I learned subtractive synthesis with my Korg MS2000, same principles apply to all other (subtractive) synths. It only took me a day to have fun with the Virus TI2, everything is well-structured and menu diving is kept to a minimum given the possibilities.

      Hey guys! I have the whiteout access virus, 61key model. I really want to sell it because I just can't see how it can do things that other vsts can't already do? Please tell me what you think is so special about the virus? I agree it sounds really nice, but i find it really difficult to integrate into my workflow (patching, cloning, layering). Having to use just one instance of the virus in a project really makes me feel like i need to use it properly, and i still don't really understand what its strengths are. Sharp leads can be done with phaseplant, ambient overtone pads can be done with Algoritm and other fm synths, chunky basses with diva etc. even the reverb can be captured as an impulse response. I really want to know what is the super thing it can do that nothing else can do!!
      The one thing (to my knowledge) that nothing else can do, is modulating the entire wavetable, which is a lot of fun, and also the TrueSemitones Just intonation feature.
      Let me know what you think!

    • @FrankyGun
      @FrankyGun 10 місяців тому +1

      @@MrReeTart - if you see it that way, then you could basically sell all of your synths that are not a 100% analog... and perhaps even the analogues too if you can't hear, feel and appreciate the warmth and genuine dissonances a physical analog synth provides.
      Different musicians have different tastes/preferences/requirements/perceptions when it comes to synths... Some (like me) simply love to be surrounded by beautiful machines (like sitting in a space ship cockpit) and love to tweak sounds by pressing real buttons and physically turning knobs instead of using a mouse or automated software to create music.
      And - at least for me - this becomes more and more of an issue while Ai is getting stronger by the day, almost being forced down our throats, while mainstream media tells us lies like a life in the Metaverse - and whatever else artificial worlds are being created on the web - is as nice, full and rich as the true life we live... (well, some don't, but I hope you get my point).
      I want the REAL Experience!!! Owning and playing keyboard synths is the real deal, like truly being under water doing scuba diving and experiencing the marine life first hand, whereas watching a documentary on scuba diving in your living room while eating pizza definitely won't even come close...
      Getting back to the subject - the TI2 - well look at this beauty!!! The blue heartbeat light thingy beneath the logo on the back of this perfect machine, the design, the cheeks, the sturdiness of the case... It's a piece of art, making beautiful sounds! It's a classic and holds true value! It's the real deal! You can touch it and you can feel it and not VST could give you that.

    • @MrReeTart
      @MrReeTart 10 місяців тому

      @@FrankyGun Well, it's a digital synth. So in theory I can have it running in an emulator with a midi controller. Then have all those knobs mapped to different parameters in the way that is most convenient for me! I'm just trying to pull Ableton 'out of the computer' with many different midi controllers and routings..
      So I can understand wanting to have immediate intuitive control over a synth, but this isn't really exclusive to analog/v-analog gear.
      Thinking I should get an osmose and some multipurpose knobs and faders...
      Well thank you for your input!! It's much appreciated 👍

    Super Patch - danke! Gerne mehr vom Virus, der meiner Meinung nach neben dem Blofeld mit am besten klingt in Anbetracht der VA-Synthies. Beim modernen Iridium bin ich mir abgesehen von seiner unschlagbaren Engine immer noch nicht sicher, ob er besser klingt oder mithalten kann, wobei der Quantum definitiv anders klingt, aber auch mehr kostet. Beim Iridium sind es diese miesen Resonanzen, die ich oft bei Demos raushöre, während die genannten VAs meistens super klingen, also muss was daran sein.

    • @MartinStuertzer
      @MartinStuertzer  11 місяців тому

      Viele Presets vom Iridium sind nicht sehr gut und die meisten Demos gefallen mir auch nicht. Die Sound Engine kann mit dem Blofeld mithalten, sofern ich das beurteilen kann. Ich hatte länger keinen mehr in der Hand.

    • @fruchticaramelos9013
      @fruchticaramelos9013 11 місяців тому

      @@MartinStuertzer Ich hoffe wirklich, dass das so ist. Der Blofeld hat diesen charakterstarken Klang mit so vielen Sweetspots und die Samples darin, hören sich auch super an. Der Iridium/Quantum ist eigentlich ein Traumsynthesizer der alles an Synthesemöglichkeiten bietet und besonders stark, ist die Granular-Funktion. Er würde eigentlich so viele teure Synthesizer obsolet machen, dass man sparen kann. Wobei ich auch nicht verstehen kann, warum nur ein Stereoausgang und Duotimbralität möglich ist.
      Der Sound ist aber am Ende das aller wichtigste - für mich zumindest, weil sonst macht es einfach keinen Spaß. Quantum klingt für mich auf jeden Fall wärmer und schöner, da bin ich mir sicher - bei jeder Demo hört man direkt den unterschied. Keine Ahnung ob das an den anlogen Filtern liegt oder doch irgendwie was anders verbaut worden ist.

    Space pads are the best pads 🙂And the virus does them really well. Question: When you add the 5th interval on the second oscillator, I guess you need to watch out which chord voicing to use as not to produce notes outside of the scale?

    • @MartinStuertzer
      @MartinStuertzer  11 місяців тому +3

      Most of the time the fifth will be part of the scale. Only the fifth on top of the 7th note will produce a dissonant note when you are in a minor scale for example.
