- Today we are going to have a look at the DSP emulation project osTIrus. With my 20 years long history with the Virus synthesizer I find this project intriguing! The soundset "Luftrum 29" for Arturia Pigments will also be a part of this session. I designed some of the patches in this soundset.

Thank you for this lovely ambient session Martin. I couldn't catch it live, but it's always a pleasure to collaborate with you.
The pleasure is mine! Thanks a lot for having me on the soundset.
That was a fantastic walkthrough, your best yet! The atmospheric pads from the Luftrum set are amazing. A walkthrough of how you designed some of your patches would be appreciated by those of us who aren't blessed with good sound creation skills!
Another great video Martin, especially as Virus ti2 owner for the last 10 years. Thank you for sharing your production flow, first steps are not always convincing (at least for me) but the end result is always amazing !
Hi Martin, another graet learning journey, thank you. One good turn deserves another. I have set up a new bitwig 5.2 (beta 8) with a few effects you use. This has the Ostirus set up with 6 midi / Audio channels and I am more than happy to share this bitwig preset with you, as a swap for some of your effects / Ostirus presets, which you can include with the returned bitwig preset. No matter if you have already worked this out. Keep up the great work.
Thank you again, Martin. These are wonderful patches. I just bought the Luftrum bundle after receiving the newsletter. Cheers 👋 - Chris
Thanks! Have fun with the soundset!
Lovely stream and very useful info about virus ti dsp emulation project. I wonder for those well versed in Bitwig - is it possible to use one instance of OSTirus with multiple midi outs like Martin was saying? I know that you can select different channels for notes and this will target different channels within Ostirus but this is not the same really. Opening few instances of this will eat up CPU like crazy so there is a merit in keeping this as one instrument. So far I haven't been able to do it in Bitwig neither.
I am 100% sure, that it is possible in Bitwig to use virtual Multi-modes in Bitwig. I just did not have the time to figure it out before I started the stream, it was a rather spontaneous decision to work with the DSP project.
It is definitely possible. As I have understood, Martin was talking about multiple Audio Outputs - you can activate these by clicking the button with the two arrows within the signal chain. But of course you can also send the Midi of different Instrument channels to the same OsTirus Instance. I have prepared a little video to show the process, but UA-cam wont let me post the link here without Martin accepting this post as no spam. You can find it on my channel (at least for a short time).
@@Kabelix my problem was that I was actually loading ostirusfx as the clap format would only recognise the FX not the ostirus plugin itself, after I installed the vst3 I could hit arrows icon (to add missing chains) which was not available in FX (obviously).. thanks Kabelix
Thank you so much! Your walk through tour of the details of what OsTIrus is, and how it works from a "start" patch, is so helpful!!
Thank you!
👍 Super Mood !!
Immer wieder wunderbar, lieber Martin... Höre Deine Musik mit einem JBL Nackenkopfhörer, schnipple dabei Gemüse und rühre ein Thaicurry.. 😂 Besser geht's nicht. Vielen Dank für Deine Arbeit und Energie. Forever Ambient.
Bravo, Martin. Awesome!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
A determined cat will not be denied. Neptun wants to do some rhythmic textures.
I really like Ostirus, I still think the interface has value, as well as the DAC stage of the Virus hardware too are still very valuable. I'm just glad to have a Virus I can play in my daw now!
I totally agree! I won't dismiss my Virus TI either.
Thanks Martin, I managed to emulate the Rain Patch, i had to upgrade my version of OSTIRUS to v1.3.14. before it would work. Awesome Music...
Thank you! Is 1.3.14 a recent update? I just installed everything a week ago and don't want to do it again.
@@MartinStuertzer it's quite a tricky process, I've recently transitioned from PC to Mac Mini . it's a steep learning curve at the moment, I need to devote more time to it.
Hello Martin,
for routing the Audio-Outputs from OsTIrus you have to go to the edit View of the Track and click the chains button of the OsTIrus-Device. Then you can select to add the missed chains or select chains. Clicking the missed Chains automatically adds all Outputs which are grouped in the Track. For the MIDI-Tracks I created the four Tracks for channel 1-4. In the plugin Track I put a NoteReceiver before the OsTIris. This NoteReceiver receives the first Midi-Channel. All other Midi Channels must be collected by appropriate NoteReceivers, that has to be put in the FX-Chain of the first NoteReceiver.
Thank you, I am going to check it out!
@@MartinStuertzer The NoteReceivers are not necessary. The Midi Routing in the Inspector panel is enough for putting this to work
Om 🎹🌟🎹🎉👍
Excellent video...for a cat person! 🐶😸
Claro, maestro!
Thanks for the video.
Nice content es always.
You did go back to Ableton, did I miss something?
Thanks! I am using both Ableton and Bitwig, just depending on my mood. For larger livesets with a lot of tracks I prefer Bitwig and for spontaneous stuff and when I want to use Push3 I prefer Ableton.
Hi from the Netherlands
Hi Martin! sorry I missed the live feed its Fathers Day here in USA !
Oh I didn't know that this was today!
There is a Virus emulation called "Viper" by Adam Szabo which is worth exploring.
I tried, but stopped reading where it says "Viper is for Windows only, NOT for Mac!" on the homepage.
@@MartinStuertzer Well that was that! Thanks!
Will this sound bank work with any version of Pigment? Thank you for answer
I can't tell, because I have only the latest version installed. I am not sure if Arturia offers a backwards compatibility. But version 5 is a free update, so you can just run the Arturia updater.
Luftrum 29 is created for Pigments 5 and later. It won't load in earlier versions, but as Martin writes, Pigments updates are free, so if you have an earlier version you can upgrade to version 5 for free.
Thank you guys for answer 👍🏻
If anyone wanted to know I have the Base M1 with 8gb.
& I have run 18 OsTIrus & I see upto 15gb of ram used. with a RAM press of about 60%, & not that much hard drive swap..I have seen more hard drive with 8 video tabs.
The Mac MINI was about £450... & its not that far off in usability to my 4k PC with a 3080ti..
The OsTIrus is not heavy on the CPU but eats RAM! & due to this I get overload warning.
& some playback issues. but track freezing is no problem. like I said I have had 18 running with delays & verbs in Logic Pro 11
Interesting! I wonder why it hits so heavy on Ram!
@@MartinStuertzer haven’t got that far.
The singular instances are not bad. But the more you add the worse it gets.
