KOI: A Twilight Zone Show - Third from the Sun #14

- William Sturka, a perfectly normal man in many respects: family, friends, a job. However, he's walking around with a big secret. Namely, a ware is coming, one that will ultimately mean the end of the species. All he can do is grab his loved ones and friends and make a mad-dash for a means of escape. In this week's episode of The Twilight Zone, we take a look at one of my favorite episodes: "Third from the Sun." It's a story that seems even more relevant today than, perhaps, even when Rod Serling introduced it in 1960. We'll talk about how informed/pessimistic Serling's audience was about atomic destruction at the time of the episode; we'll question whether or not Sturka's profession as a scientist alters the way we view his character; and I'll give you my moment of awe. So, grab your keys, and let's get this door to the fifth dimension open.

No show did a better job than The Twilight Zone at generating awe and wonder within its audience. It just so happens that awe is exactly what we need in these difficult, divisive times. So, join me, Joe Meyer, and let's walk through the fifth dimension with Rod Serling. Along the way, we'll discuss big questions and relate them back to our Twilight Zone episodes.

Thanks for taking the time to be with us today. Consider joining us on this journey through the fifth dimension.
"Third from the Sun" is an excellent episode. I like how you delve into the nihilism of humanity's urge to destroy (things, people, etc.) through this episode. Another great video.
Thanks for your reflections and intelligence. I’m 73 and lived through those times. You are on point with your thoughts on this episode. Thank you sir!
That means a lot. And thank you for taking the time to let me know.
Excellent analysis on one the best TZ episodes.
I agree. It's definitely in my top 10--maybe even my top 5, if I think about it long enough. And thank you for the kind words.
Thx for this informative video. Younger generations are not used to libing under the oppresive, ling shadow of nuclear annihilation, and how close the "superpowers" were to unleash hell on Earth. I wonder if today does not have to envy a thing to the past, as though
Dude, you’re obsessed. And, I LOVE IT! I’ve always been a Twilight Zone fan, though not to your level. More along the lines of enjoying the yearly marathon level. But, I get it. My show’s Futurama. I want to hear more, though, so you got the sub. Keep up the great entertainment!
I really like this episode. We went over it a few months ago on a Twitter watch marathon. I felt the camera angles were unique, and I noticed the artwork was strange! It's great to know that the TZ Companion also mentions it, and it was the director's intention. All your research on the atomic and neutron bomb articles is excellent. Every generation has something to fear, but I feel that fear has continued to linger to this day ever since the creation of these bombs. I understand your feelings about walking into war vs. being pulled into one. When you read comments online, they are very sad - people waiting for the 'bomb to drop' or wishing for the meteor or comet to strike the Earth. It is a general feeling of hopelessness, especially with how the internet lifts the veil of who is pulling strings. As you mentioned, all we can do is make those positive changes and live good lives.
It's an interesting episode to watch again when you're looking for clues about it being a different world. The art is definitely one of the things you suddenly notice more. Well said about everything else.
I hadn't seen the episode before. The topic is timeless, though. I think war, destruction, and the development of new weapons will exist as long as there are people. But I'm grateful to live in a country that isn't currently threatened by this.
It seems the arms race ended once two counties had nuclear capabilities. Before that, the race was to gain a marginal lead with slightly better tanks, planes missiles and espionage. After that, it just feels like two people standing on a cliff and when the starter pistol goes off it will become a race to the bottom.
"I'm just a cog." That's what every Nazi said.
Explaining an episode of the Twilight Zone rather than showing it is boring as hell.
