  • A bit of a rollercoaster weekend of sheep farming.
While waiting for my induced ewe to show signs of labour... she is progressively getting weaker, while yet another mama went into labour early with a beautiful set of stillborn triplets.
The next day, my mama with pregnancy toxemia finally showed signs of failure health wise.
I made contact with my vet, and put mama down.
I decided to perform an emergency C-section, with not much hope...
but we were surprised with 3 little glimpses of light.

Keep you chin up! Farming is hard on the heart sometimes, but there are those times when it’s real easy on the heart. The babies are adorable and I wish you all the success with them and this lambing in general. I love watching you go through your farming life and am learning a lot from you. Thanks for keeping going!! 💕

These babies had a chance because of all the hard work you did with their momma. You were able to get her a couple more weeks along, and that means everything to getting lambs there. I watched a vet talk about knowing and older vet that would put a lamb into a black garbage bag up to it’s head. Lightly tighten it around the neck of the lamb open a hole on the bottom stick a hair dryer in the hole, keep moving the hot air coming out ( just like when we use it to dry our hair). This raises their body temperature much faster than a heating pad. It might be worth a try. I think you should build a warming box with deciders, so you have an easier place to put these little nuggets. Your creative, and a builder. Something where you can see them, control the temperature. Something like those oxygen kennels they use at the vets, but only for warming. Just an idea.

Could not have said it better. You can not save them all. Farming comes with gain, but also loss. She gained three sheep she also lost 1 mother over it. She lost two but, she also still has the mother alive to have a nother birth. Nature is beautifull like that.

I agree, the average person has no actual concept of the work involved to just care for animals, much less go above and beyond what is considered typical animal husbandry. I live in Idaho, we see it all the time, the lack of care or concern for their animals health and well-being. Sandy you are amazing, and I love your channel. We can't have light without darkness, day without night, and life without loss. You have been blessed with 3 precious lambs. Their stuggle will make them stronger than others. Sandi, you are amazing and it's okay tell yourself that. You have dedication, strength, and empathy. I admire you and what you are doing. I have worked with animals all my 71 years. They have an instinct about how life works. Mama ewe held on to buy extra time for her lambs to develop more to give them a chance at living. Even then she was a good mom. And so are you. It is bittersweet but it's okay to rejoice in the outcome. Praying each day going forward will strengthen those babies. And take care of yourself.

Your comment was beautiful. . .and somehow it was soothing to my soul. I am the momma of 5 ranging in age from 31 down to 16. The first and last are boys and the three middle are girls. I am MASSIVELY struggling with feeling rejected by my girls when being a mom is all I ever wanted in my whole life (too much to blab to the world). But something in what you wrote to Sandi gave me hope - 💔 not even sure exactly what it was, but I will screen shot it and ponder it. God bless.

@@sharonb.7867, don't be so hard on yourself. Being a mom to willful children is hard. I, myself, have 3 children that I basically raised myself. My middle child was the epitome of middle children. As difficult as 3 kids all by himself. But, somewhere along life's path he has matured and turned into an actually pleasant person. It just takes time and patience. I have all the faith that your girls will someday come to you and thank you for all they have put you through. It may take them becoming mothers themselves to realize your sacrifices. Be strong and hang on to hope. You're in my prayers.🙏🏻🤗

@Sharon B. One day soon, they will have a moment where everything clicks, and they realize the respect you deserve. You are a good mom. And it shows because you want your babies to show their love the same. They do love you. They just haven't reached that age where they realize that Mama is their #1 and will have their back and always have. I am ashamed to say. I was 22 when it hit me that my mom always just had my best interest at heart. She wanted the world for me. When I was younger, I thought she was just trying to be bossy and nag me. But in reality, she just wanted to save me from the hurt and mistakes she made in her youth.
My son is 21, and he is basically my whole heart walking around outside my body. I worry constantly and want everything to go perfect for him. Motherhood is a blessing and a curse, because we love them so damn much!

I feel for you! I had 3 aborted at the beginning of my season (found out it’s chlamydia 😞). Had a ewe prolapse her entire uterus after birth. We worked hard at getting it back in and lost her a week later. But there are always little miracles that happen that far out weigh the losses and that keeps me going.

I am amazed how you are able to carry on day after day after facing loss. Animals get to be almost like family after awhile. I have some farming background but it was mostly grain farming. I have realized that farming involving animals is really different because you deal with a fair amount of loss. Thank you for keeping us up to date. Take care.

My dad grew up on a farm. He always told me if I farm sheep I would have joy but also heartbreak. He told me that they are lovely and usually lovable. He told me that I would be up birthing nights because sometimes the animal needs a hand. Watching Sandi I can see what my dad meant. Sandi puts her whole heart into her animals. I have zero hate to give her. I have zero judgement to put on her. From what we watch Sandi is a wonderful Shepherdess. She deserves our respect and support.

Hi Sandy, I hope that maybe you'll see my comment and read the whole thing...
I appreciate seeing the highs and lows of your farm, it's good to learn the good and the bad sides of it, I think that helps people be prepared if they were to want to raise or just keep sheep.
Knowing how insensitive and cruel people can be, having experienced comment sections myself on horse videos I have done (lol 😉), and being similar to you in having anxiety over what people think of what I'm doing and also struggling with self deprecating thoughts and low self esteem...I've wondered before on your videos if you could have someone that is less emotionally involved review your comments for you and remove ones that are unnecessarily rude, critical or otherwise just mean and not very helpful..perhaps that would be a help to you emotionally during times that you are already struggling with whether or not you did the "right" thing.

I grew up on a sheep farm and on my 4th birthday I came out of my bedroom and there was a baby lamb warming in front of the fire. His mother was put down as the baby lamb was the size of twins there was no way of getting him out. His name was Jasper Carrot and I bottle raised him. My best birthday ever!
