We love our brothers back home! Unfortunately there are ignorant people everywhere. They will vanish after a while. 99% of the Jamaicans and descndnts believe that we must reunite asap.
Also, voodon is huge in jamaica, I think some people (in these types of vids) are chosen for dramatic effect ;)

the Jamaican education system is bad on purpose, designed by slavers to destroy our identity and isolate us. All jamaicans must go through a HUGE struggle to find out who they really are at some point in their life. I like to think ignorant people just havent had their realisation yet. in the words of Bob - One love@@EkowSimpson. Keep up the good work

Just a correction Ekow, the lady didn't say alcohol. The Ms Trudy video mis translate. The lady said 'lick' meaning that Africans like to slap people. 'Box' means a slap across the face. I can assure you these ladies watch too many Nigerian movies that is why they are talking like this. Jamaica is arguable the most Afro centric nation outside of Africa. We know our roots and are proud of it. We love Africa!

As a Jamaican I don’t understand why everyone is giving that negative remark about Africans so much attention. If you listen to what she said, she said she watches the Nigerian movies and they do a lot of obeah (juju) and they take people’s men. When a person is illiterate there’s nothing in this world you can say to convince them that what they believe actually isn’t true. It doesn’t matter what race or culture you are, illiteracy is our own enemy and that is what that woman is. You spoke about the student who said she “didn’t” know about Africa but it seems she didn’t quite hear what Miss Trudy said clearly so she corrected herself by saying yes she have heard about Africa, she even went on to say she’s had African food before (FuFu). As grown ups that are from third world countries like myself and you, we should already understand how this world is set up, the things that are taught in schools are the yt man’s story not the real story. It is when we become adults that we realize that what we were taught in school wasn’t facts. I migrated to the United States when I was 11 years old, I am now 33 years old. I was taught nothing good about Africa here in the States, but growing up I already knew the real story about Africa because my Great grandmother was born in Ghana (Kumasi to be exact) and she moved to Jamaica back in the early 1930s. My entire family in Jamaica speaks Twi and basically lives the life of a typical Ghanaian family. My entire neighborhood in Jamaica loves our family and even join us for celebrations and enjoys our Ghanaian food. They even took it real hard when my great grandmother passed (A born African Woman). When you were not taught something, it’s ok to say you know nothing about it, and I will always respect my fellow Jamaicans that knows nothing about Africa to say NO THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT AFRICANS. It’s not a crime to not know your roots if it wasn’t taught to you, it also would be great for us that knows our roots to spread our truth respectfully to the people who don’t and not criticize them for not knowing it. One of Jamaica’s national Heroes (NANNY of the Maroons) was born in Ghana and brought to Jamaica as a slave. She’s Jamaica’s only female National Hero. Also, Marcus Garvey who was born in Jamaica was trying to get the Africans back to Africa which wasn’t successful, but he didn’t give up on trying to Unite us. Ghana’s Black Star was influenced by Kwame Nkrumah’s Black Star Gate which Kwame got the Black Star name from Marcus Garvey, as Black Star Line was invented by Marcus Garvey as a movement to get Africans back to Africa. We are connected and blended, we are one. What we need to do is take this opportunity to educate each other about our HOME (Africa) instead of highlighting and focusing on the negative that one individual had to say about a continent that she has criticized due to watching a fictional movie. Let’s educate each other positively and it will definitely push us to uniting sooner than you think. One Love ❤️

Well said Sister! They are there blaming this one woman among the many others who spoke positively Re: Africa
They are not blaming the popular contents spilling out of the those negative stereotypical movies portraying people from the Continent
This poor woman and others alike who are mal-educated and filling their lives with these portrayal of the characters from African movies, and who do not acquire the knowledge, are now becoming the scrutiny of the whole of Africa.

I am Jamaican. Never heard any of those negative comments about Africa or Africans in Jamaica. I didn't see Ms. Trudy video. She may have interviewed some ignorant and unenlightened Jamaicans. Truth be told, most Jamaicans are pro Africa and love our African roots and ancestry. It is quite unfortunate she found some of the ignorant and less knowledgeable Jamaicans to interview. Some of what they said were also mistranslated. They do not represent or reflect the general population of Jamaica.

The woman in Ms Trudy's video knows what she's talking about. Most Africans don't like constructive criticism. The village young women who come to the city for work in the wealthy houses are treated in the worst ways by the their Madams. The truth hurts, but it is the truth...denial don't prove that these things don't exist. I have beautiful friends from Nigeria and they all confirm these things when I asked them about these stories. All TRUE, they say. Social media is responsible for bringing out everything now, so maybe it's a good thing. I see these revelations as a purge of conscience. Four hundred years of not doing anything to self improve must end, it's vital time for us to focus seriously on self reflection and improvement. I love Africa, I want to see more love and respect for each other, at the end of the day, we dark skin tones people are Africans and divided we stand, divided we fall...One love, from Jamaica❤ (lick means, slap...obeah means, juju. The slaves brought it with them and it was handed down to the descendants...we called it here in Jamaica...obeah or witchcraft. Facts!

In Jamaican patois dialect, "lick" means "to hit someone". The woman in the video said Africans love to lick too much, meaning Africans like to hit or fight too much. She was not saying that Africans like liquor or drink alcohol too much. 400 + years of slavery, Colonialism, oppression, mis-education, media, propoganda, has create huge gaps of misunderstandings. Lots of work to be done. Those who are fortunate to understand the realities should give of their time to teach the ones who may not understand certain issues of our social and historic experiences.

When she said that they love lick she didn't not mean liquor. Lick means hit. She is trying to say that African men love to beat their women not that they love to drink liquor. Another word for beat is either lick or box in a lot of the English speaking Caribbean islands.

Well I must say that I was also shocked when I saw the Jamaican lady say those horrible things about Africa, but then I thought about it, there are many ignorant people all around the world and she does not represent the majority of Jamaicans or people from the islands and also it seems like she got her ideas from watching Nigerian movies and now she thinks all Africans are like the characters in those movies which tells me that she's probably has very little education, but hopefully maybe someone in Jamaica watching the video will teach her about the real Africa.... anyway shout out to all my beautiful Jamaicans out there...One Love

That lady sees Africa through the eyes of the Nigerian Movie Industry. She doesn't know how to separate facts from fictions, and it's obvious that she is not an educated person to know better. However, I am not saying that everything in those movies are fictions. But, common sense should tell us that not all Nigerians or Africans practice those bad things. Yes, there are a small percentage of Jamaicans who think like this lady. I had the opportunity to enlighten some of them. But, Miss Trudy shouldn't make this one person's opinion or perception of Africans override the majority. This woman doesn't know anything about herself or her history. Because she is accusing Nigerians in the movies of fighting, and with her own mouth she said that she also likes to fight, which tells me that if she were to take a DNA test, she would have a very high percentage of Nigerian in her DNA. So, it's like the kettle calling the pot black out of ignorance. Don't forget that many Nigerians were brought to Jamaica during the Transatlantic Slave Trade. And, among Jamaicans there are many different tribal characteristics that are unknown to them, but we see them manifesting in our behavior. We all need to educate ourselves about who we are as a people.

Thanks for the sober analysis ne bredren.
*And yes, why be ashamed of our culture. We do have a certain amount mystic beliefs.
The slaves brought it over to Jamaica, and expressed it in the form of:
    Obeah
Pocomania: because the Spanish thought these Africans were (poco: a little. Mania: Crazy, manic)
    And Myal.
Some were meant to do harm, while others to cure.
When I would run away from a whipping, my Jamaican grandmother would warn me: Bwai if yuh run from yahso to Oyo, me a guh ketch yuh. Where the hell is Oyo? I wondered. As it turned out, my illiterate grandmother was smarter than I am. Don't think she knew anything about Oyo though. It was just an expression introduced by the Slaves, and it took root.
I was birthed at home by my Grandmother, and didn't see a medical Doctor until age 15. My Granny knew the medical value of each plant, which is all part of the Obeah thing.
Every word out my Granny's mouth sounded like an African word: "Me nah get involved ina Mbakra business". Who the hell is Bakra?
Move to a new residence: My Granny killed a chicken and sprinkle the blood around the yard.
So, Jamaica is full of whatever you want to call it. I don't know what that crazy lady was talking about.
*African descendants living in Spanish Countries call it Santeria, a mixture of African beliefs and Catholism.
*Voodoo in Haiti. The snake god, Dambala
    * Shango. Maybe in Trinidad. Bet definitely Nigerian.
Therefore, I don't have to defend myself regarding the African tradition that were key in slave revolts.

I was going to keep quiet, but you asked for a comment, so here goes. I am a Jamaican in Jamaica. I keep seeing people leaving comments on African videos suggesting that ‘the west’ is the axis of all things evil for Africa and the diaspora. Let me remind everyone that Jamaica is PHYSICALLY located in the west. We are 500 miles from the United States. We can not go to war with these people, culturally or otherwise. We will always lose. We tried that already politically in the 1970’s, it was a colossal failure, look it up. We ended up in a low scale civil war. Jamaica is still recovering from that. We know a lot of bad things things happened in the past between ‘the west’ and Africa, but we Jamaicans do not have the luxury of taking sides here. I find it so silly that so many people of African heritage live in America, Canada or Europe, make their living there and yet cuss ‘the west’ everyday. It’s crazy. What she said Africans love to lick or box people which is patois or Jamaican slapping people especially in the face. So it's not liquor but rather (lick or slap people) an example is the prank videos in Africa and the people who get angry often strikes the person with a slap to the face, body or head. So in Jamaica they would say the person box mi or lick mi inna mi face, head or pon mi body get it. We use words differently in Patois in Jamaica.

Jamaicans watch a lot of Nollywood movies from I was in my teens, also Generation from South Africa, we never knew Ghana has their own movies. You are trying to teach Jamaicans what they already know, Jamaicans knows almost everything about Africa more than Africans know about Jamaica, because our education system teaches us starting from basic school. In Jamaica, at schools and church, we have African Day where everyone dressed up in African attire, we also have Afro Day where the kids wears their natural hair in Afros. Jamaicans know that they are from Nigeria, Ghana and other parts of South Central Africa. That one lady happens to be an ignorant one. Go watch Dee Mwango a Kenyan UA-camr who are in Jamaica doing a great job showing casing Jamaica and how Jamaicans love Africa.

Ekow, I'm surprised that you are shocked based on your background. You should know that this woman lives in a fictional/mytical world of movies, and unfortunately, most of these movies depict what she said....why? Also, it is obvious she is misinformed, unenlightened, and ignorant. Not to mention, she made a mistake of saying that Africans are afraid of Jamaicans because they eat Susumba... when in fact that saying goes for people from Haiti 🇭🇹. I guarantee she's not the only one who believes this because, for all her life "thats" what is pushed in the media. I have never seen ANYTHING POSITIVE about Africa until the Information Highway began to tell the truth! I myself heard awful stories about Africa and how scary the people are. I have watched "so-called" documentaries about cannibalism in Africa...poor, sickly, uneducated, and the list is inexhaustible. However, TRUTH does come out...the west no longer can keep us blinded!!! Africa is the greatest, most fascinating, breathtakingly beautiful country I have ever encountered. Not to mention its people..ooooooo so wonderful, beautiful and kind..now the west will get a taste of its own medicine...as they say....carma is a ..........! I can't wait to be reunited with my true country from which my ancestors were stolen....my heart is so full that the lies of the west are still believed. I have been to Ethiopia and Ghana.....love is so much...can't wait to return to mother...so pray that this poor woman find herself and all those who are still in darkness. Blessings ❤

It's unfortunate that your video is titled, 'what Jamaicans think of African,' however, your video is based upon the views of only a single Jamaican, a lady who claims to not liking Africans. Miss Trudy inerviewed about eight Jamaicans, asking them the very same question and all the others shared positive feeling towards Africans but for reasons that I consider to be nothing nothing but hypocritical, you chose to highlight only the negative remarks. Shame on you man. I am Jamaican and the love that I have for Africans is mountain high, so is it fair in anyway to use the dislike of one woman for Africans to highlight my feelings?
