Watup man it's gili!! Idk if u remember me. I came across ur video cause I just got an 87 seaswirl that I need to do this to this weekend lol it has the vortec v6 with same omc cobra
does the shift assist work like its supposed to after you replaced the cable? i had hard shifting due to a failed ESA module, and got another module but now my ESA is engaging when its not supposed to, setting the cable up using the special tools doesn't help it, so im thinking my cable was stretched
Yes it did work fine. I believe what it does is make the engine stutter before or while the forward or reverse gear shift into gear. Im prob wrong on how that switch works. But also I had to adjust the cable by trial and error the jig that is supposed to have the correct length on the cable was wrong. So I had to just wing it and figure out the length that it liked. I found it pretty easy.
@AYeAYeRon I got it close on the trailer. Then a few minor adjustments on the water and I was good to go. It Wasn't that hard to figure out. Sucked a lil bit but After I got it dialed in it shifted amazing.
Nope. Just had to remove the hydraulic rams. Was very simple. The outdrive is on there pretty good. So just find some help when removing. The actual job wasn't bad at all
Yes I did. I was having a hard shifting problem first then sometimes it wouldn't engage at all. But there is adjustment in the cable in the engine compartment . I was able to adjust it to were it would work. But my cable was goin out so it wasn't cycling smooth and the cable seemed stretched. Why I replaced it. Made a 100% diffrence after I replaced it. I would watch the cable that moves in the engine compartment when reversing . Then adjust it either in or out till it engages it prob doesn't need to much adjusting just do a lil check then a lil more then check. I'd start there before replacing the cable. Hope that helps.
If it's Jerking from popping out of gear it would. I would try and adjust it first. But if its jerking for some other reason not related to being in forward or reverse. It probably won't fix it. But if its jerking in forward like its goin in and falling out of gear adjust it first.

@@safserm1 were you able to set it up to work right on the trailer, or did you need to adjust it more when you were out on the water?
@AYeAYeRon I got it close on the trailer. Then a few minor adjustments on the water and I was good to go. It Wasn't that hard to figure out. Sucked a lil bit but After I got it dialed in it shifted amazing.
Just 6 nuts and it pulled off? Did you have to disconnect the shift cable or anything else?

You ever had problems with the propeller not engaging when put in reverse? I have the same boat but reverse doesn’t work
