Going back to needle and thread being a bigger symbol, it's also what the other mother holds up when she says "you're going to stay here forever". She didn't hold up the buttons, we don't even see if the buttons are anywhere in the room. But the needle and thread are there

I originally subscribed like, almost 4 years ago, I was literally ten and so fascinated by your Coraline videos. I might rebinge that whole series too while I work on my character design stuff. Gosh, I'm so friggin' thrilled by the fact that you've actually found more to unpack? The details never end in this film. Props to that person's letter too. Go Ezra! I've been settling my coraline theory cravings by getting into mini-essay long debates and conversations about theories on reddit so this video was a very pleasant surprise!

This theory also could work for Mrs. Lovat. Her sister is one of the ghost children so who's to say Mrs. Lovat hasnt gone into the other world as well. Plus for years she forbids children from living in the pink palace but suddenly changes her mind so who's to say the Beldam isn't controlling her too

In the opening scene, when you see the beldams shadow near the end of the scene, you can see the outline of the door. This means the opening scene is in the drawing room.
I know there's been a lot of debate as to where that room is, but I've never really tried to sit down and figure it out for myself - so you are probably right that it's a room we see in other parts of the movie (it would make the most sense for the animators not to build a new set for a minute long intro too).
@@TheFangirlWatches yeah. It is possible its down the well too, but that might be a sort of portal back to the beldams world.
i think the beldam feeds of feelings, That would explain why those ghost kids look almost emotionless when coraline finds them behind the pale mirror. How i see it playing out, the beldam captures a child, feeds off emotion (but only a little bit) when he in the real world (much like a appetizer), then they find there way into the other world and she get s full Corse meal. After that they become *almost* emotionless and they become like a puppet for the beldam and she uses them no matter where they are.
Omg Coraline took the clothes the Beldam made for her!!! The thread I bet she sewed the clothes herself and that could be a further way to trap Coraline in the other-world. I do really like the idea that the other residents where children the Beldam had taken them when they go too old she sent them out. It could also explain why they’re weird, think maybe 10yrs a child would “feed” her then she would need another. After 10yrs in a Peter Pan type setting they wouldn’t be able to/ really struggle to reintegrate to the “real world”. That might also connect to Spink and Forsible not going into town. Going to your theory maybe after she is done with them she send them back into the middle house area, or depending on her level of magic maybe she can even slow down the aging process. Idk just some ideas. Love the videos

The other mother is basically a Dream Weaver. If they don't travel physically, they will astrally or in spirit. Everyone in that house had dreams of grandeur and the older they get, the more disconnected they are from their mundane reality. I feel like if Coraline consented to dreaming forever she would have ended up more like her neighbors but she went through a nightmare and sent the spider to the abyss. The twist for me is knowing that the Other Mother, like death and all the scary things that sit in our subconscious, can't be killed...lessons have to learned because the battle isn't over until we're done living

This was a very interesting Coraline theory by Ezra. Even though I'm not sending you a letter, I would like to pitch a suggestion for a future video you could do if you wanted. I remember in your video about the rats' song in the Coraline book, you thought of the idea that Coraline's soul may have been the final soul the Beldam needed to be able to enter the real world. I think it'd be really cool if you expanded on that idea in the future.

I know this might in a way contradict some of your other theories but, (if you have not already) have you considered digging deeper into the theory that the grandmother may have been working with the Beldam. It honestly just makes so much sense. The doll, her renting to coralines parents (despite refusing to do so before), sealing the door and yet leaving the key within reach for the new family to use, Wybie wasnt allowed inside of the home (until the end). In a way I feel like she was sacrificing Coraline to save her grandson. That’s just a suggestion I’d love to hear your take on it.
That was part of my earlier theories for sure! The I believe I reverse engineered it around Part 4 that the cat worked for the Beldam, and was likely Wybie’s missing father (Mrs. Lovat’s son) and that’s why they let the Jones family move in.

You know, that might be something I do on Twitch someday, because I hear their policies are a lot different, so I could show the movie as part of a live stream. But the commentary videos in general really hurt the channel, since most people would click on, listen for about 20 seconds, then leave when they realized the movie wouldn't be playing. T_T

So in both the book and the movie the tunnel that coraline goes through to get to and from the other world is constantly changing, do you think its because she's never able to go through the same door twice which is why she can never truly escape? Like the other mother just changes where the tunnel leads or smth
So what I find interesting, is that in the movie, The ghost children, Bobinski, and the two old ladys (forgot their names) is that it goes by the same order, boy, girl, girl. And also the fact that I think the well can be a possible portal to the other world. If you were to compare the well and the tunnel, well it looks quite similar at least to me. And something else that supports my theory is that Wybie said, "if you were to fall down, you'd see a sky full of stars in the middle of the day." And also something else i have noticed is that everytime Coraline is alone in the real world, the door is available. It happens especially when Coraline's parents are not shown. @The Fangirl Not too bad. Much better with the new video. I'm really interested in the idea of the residents being controlled by the Beldam, like some sort of thread to lead new children back to her lair.
I'm curious as well, can't quite remember what the Other Father turned into in the book, but it makes me wonder if the Beldam created him once she caught wind that a new child was coming to the Pink Palace, or if she reshaped him from the former child's Other Father, to match Coraline's father.
I tried to do a bit about the book Other Father and how terrifying he was at the end, with no will to resist the Beldam's, compared to the film Other Father's will to help Coraline, in spite of the piano gloves warnings and the Beldam's influence, but I wasn't sure how to relate it to the main comment, so it ended up down here. Just like the book Other Father, I suppose.
I'm pretty sure ive been to Ashland, Oregon where the movie takes place. I live in Portland so its not as far as most other places.
I think forcible and the other woman just survived the other wotld when they were kids. So they have the experience. And they knew exactly what to give to coraline and the suggestion to give...

I really love your Coralline theories but I couldn’t help but be stuck on something a long time ago you made theory about there being many generations of beldams and the beldams probably having mothers, and I know you said the book and the movie are different universes but there was a line in the book where the beldam swore on her mother’s grave for the game and when coralline questions whether he had a mother she commented that she put her mother there herself but she keeps trying to escape so you think this could tie into your theory?
i thought the buttons held the bedlam to the world. Like it sewed her to the world.
That would be a neat way to look at it, but then how could the hand have gotten free? 🤔
@@TheFangirlWatches hm well like the theorier says "its right inbetween 3 portal's to the otherworld. That could be makeing it still useable. And its just her hand if you lose only your hand you wont die. This can explain why she never leaft the other world.

Hi I love your video and I had a theory about coraline so in the movie she see the show then the Belldam asked if coraline wanted button eyes and she said no and went to bed but when she goes to the real world the food on the table was rotten so that means her parents went missing when she said no to button eyes

My understanding, as a complete outsider, is that Laika has vowed never to do sequels. So, I think it's just a rumor that keeps popping up, but I wish it would become true!

You may not be doing Coraline anymore but did you notice when Coraline goes to bed in the other world for the first time when the other mother sits on the chair next to Coraline's bed her shadow looks like her second or third form. That might just be the animation of shadows in the film or I'm just seeing things maybe

What if the cat can create portals right on the spot, I think this becouse of the weird places where he crosses the worlds ( last scene ). I think the cat is related to the beldam but wants to help Coraline. Becouse. He doesn’t know what she wants to do, he just guesses what he should do. Maybe they were ones friends and she abandoned him.... 😊

To back up the theory after mr bobinscy told coralline not to open the door after she went in the other world so the beldam can trap her in the limbo pink palace
I always wondered why the "real parents" seemed kinda off. Take for instance the father looked almost dead like to me. Then her mother has a neck brace. They just moved, but didn't have a proper meal for dinner. It's like the real mother only wanted the father to work on the computer all the time. Same in the other world with the other mother, she always has the father being controlled by hands and didn't want him saying much to Coraline.
they should make a prequel film, i would love to see that a lot.
Laika said they don't want to do sequels, but prequels are technically different! I'd love to see that!

I have a theory some people have talked about this but I have a theory close to the other theory’s because the little kids in the photos could be the ghost children in the other house and she had more victims but she can shapeshift so she could’ve looked like there parents and she can look normal so she could trick them and be like “oh we need surgery!” And to confuse the children because a kid wouldn’t give there eyes away just for a little good life and to die that’s the end of my theory thank you for reading

This was a good theory. I still remember the first time I watched Caroline and how uncomfortable the opening scene made me, 😂
Having both the movie and the book and consumed both fully I'm gonna say it's an interesting theory but doesn't work when you recall in the movie version that the house is rented out by Wyborn's grandmother and she's the one who was often very strict about who lived there after what happened to her sister. The ladies would have moved in after the last child had already had the buttons sewn on.
But when it comes to the button eyes I draw these 2 theories
1. The shortest and simplest of them is that so she and her creations can see Coraline's home through the doll's eyes and know how they are to behave themselves.
2nd theory is the longest one so I'll try to be clear with it.
2. Drawing from the book the beldam is said to love Coraline and Coraline believes it when she says she does but Coraline feels they it's not the same as one would love your child but more like a pet or possession. Keep that last part in mind.
Combining the beldam's actions in the opening sequence of the film and her powers to shift and create worlds (which both film and book share) the buttons is significant in turning the child into a button eyed doll. Not the very doll she creates like the doll version of Coraline but making the children her playthings and she keeps them to play house with her. She's like a big spoiled brat feeding off of their presents like an emotional vampire. When she's through with them having consumed their lives she cast them aside.
Well time for me to creep out of the shadows again lol
Ezra theory is true because Mr bobinsky says do not go through little door also as u can see in the movie the boy talks the most which could be Mr bobinsky and the rest could be the lady's in the basement

So I was just watching Teen Titans and in one of the episode's is the team wakes up to finding this "mother" in their home after eating pie. Well got me thinking that perhaps the Beldam and Mother mae eye both feed off the love that someone has for them. Seems like something that may be interesting to add to the Coraline theory. Am I the only one that thinks so??

When Coraline enters the world for the third time (after the gloves argument), I noticed there was a white shadow on the right side window (44:20 - 44:23). I couldn't find any channels with any explanation of this but I would love to know what's going on there. Could it be something watching Coraline? Does it have any sort of deeper meaning?
Could the material used to make the buttons. Wouldn’t the buttons over time loosen and fall out of the thread or the buttons breaking let’s the beldam know when to let go of the child since all their child like mind set is gone due to them growing up

Let's say that this theory is true, what is the significance of the button eyes?
I think that, maybe, "I'm going to sew buttons into your eyes" is easier to accept than "I just want to sew your eyes shut." Just like when you see the dead dogs, they look more eerie and unsettling without any type of eye showing.

I know exactly what you mean, because I always feel hungry after I eat something “healthy” too, but now I’m learning that it’s less being hungry and more fog and storm eating, and I’ve oddly been able to tell myself “I’m not actually hungry right now, I just need a distraction” and it’s been working. The impulse control part is another area I need to learn to control (like my mom sending home a whole trunk load of junk food if my kids visit her for one day - and those cookies and cupcakes sing to me!), but bit by bit I think Noom’s idea of desensitizing myself to it and not banning myself from eating any has been working too. It’s still early in the process though, so we’ll all see soon enough if the program works the miracles that no other diet has managed to do, lol.

You believe Coraline is in a limbo with everyone who's come in contact with the other world. Now, I agree with that. My question is, when Coraline gets married and has children, would those be babies the Bedlam stole and made Coraline believe they are hers, so that the Bedlam has more to feed on, or would they be safe? Is every new generation now stuck in the limbo just because of Coraline and everyone else went into the other world?

I didn’t make the video, but the girl had a point. This is a part three so... you may want to find part one and two. I feel that with the stone, just feels like it hits really close to home. You will see when you see the video . I have went to the comment section. And with the controlling the neighbors, it actually plays out in this theory with the fair ring.
