You could not ask for a better day for a train ride. The countryside of Switzerland was spectacular and seeing the smaller towns and the beautiful homes was great. This ride even had farms and cows in it. Thanks for showing me a part of the world that I will never see in reality.
I'm pleased to see that the Weissenstein tunnel is to be saved. This is an attractive and useful route. The reopening of the route from Boncourt to Belfort may have strengthened the case for keeping this line open.
Another lovely cab ride with my favourite crew. The scenery was every bit as beautiful as I hoped and the speed was just right for taking it all in. I love all the extra information you give us too. Thank you Andrea and Lori for another great trip. ❤️
@@lorirocks777 I do appreciate you doing these so I can do my jogging to beautiful scenery. Sorry it’s so much work…I’d be fine with only highlighting major stations, tunnels and only big things. That would make it faster for you. Thanks and enjoy your family time this weekend.
@@lizkb5473 Thanks Liz. Most of the work is adjusting the lighting, which is not too bad for most videos. This video was quite dark while we were driving towards the sun, so I had to brighten those shots up and blend them with the already good parts. I think part of the fun for me making these videos is researching why and when certain things were built. I often get quite sidetracked, but it's really interesting and I think others also enjoy a few facts here and there. Thanks for your continued support :)
GORGEOUS! Once again, I feel naughty watching at 2x speed, but it can't hurt, right? it's actually beautiful at the real, original speed, but I can watch more of these great videos if I turn them into speed-runs :) Thanks LoriRocks!
22:04 Crémines Zoo: Must say that this is the first time I have seen a wayside access road also serve as passenger platform for a railroad's station stop. Thanks, Andrea Lisa, for filming this relaxing ride, and to you, lorirocks, for posting it.
Another wonderful video! Your channel is so great...I apologize I don't comment on each video, but I have spent many happy hours watching your videos! Thanks you so much. From a grateful subscriber.
Apart from the expected beauty of the journey, what impressed me was that the average speed was quite low. Is the road journey slower, more difficult? If so, then the train is more practicable, especially for intermediate stops. Thanks again.
After trying to successfully utilize Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, I am soooo ready for some rail action! Long live terrestrial views of the planet!!
Small correction to your video: It says that the renovation of the Weissenstein tunnel will cost CHF 150 million. This is the cost of renovating the entire Solothurn-Moutier line, including new track and catenary and upgrading the stations to be accessible, which will be undertaken while the tunnel is closed. The cost for just the tunnel is CHF 85 million.
Short but sweet !! Had enough time to watch this before the missus got back from shopping, good way to unwind after an interesting week at work !! Scenery is spectacular, as is very common in Switzerland!! That will be a large amount of refurbishment works on the tunnel, will the line be closed while they carry it out or will it be done on weekends and nights?
Thanks to Andrea and Lorirocks777 both for this contemplative gem - leaving the waits in is totally appropriate to the feel on this occasion. Local colour is added by the way the announcement chime changes with the language. This must've been very early in April 2021 as the Weissenstein cable car appears to be still on its spring maintenance break. It seems a shame that CHF150m should only give us another 25 years of use, especially given the necessary shutdown - CHF6m/year seems poor value for money. This would suggest either that the original construction was defective or that the jurassic rock formation is unstable. Alternatively there may have been a higher price quoted (for a properly rebuilt tunnel) that the voters were unwilling to stomach. Your insights on this situation would be most welcome. Meanwhile thanks again to you both \m/
@officialmcdeath: Regarding the language of the announcements: It was much nicer years ago, when the staff still announced the stations: Murten (in German; in French Morat) is located at the French-German language border, so it was announced bilingually - French first and German afterwards, when arriving from the French language area, and analogously vice versa. (From Faoug: "Prochain arrêt Morat, nächster Halt Murten" or, from Muntelier: "Nächster Halt Murten, prochain arrêt Morat"). The current announcement for Freiburg (as the bilingual city is officially called in High German; in French and in Swiss German dialect it is called Fribourg), however, is crazy complicated: "nächster Halt Freiburg/Fribourg, prochain arrêt Fribourg/Freiburg"... So it is hard to believe that Swiss people with different dialects can live together peacefully... 😃
"Kerzers/Chiètres" - but nowadays Kerzers is announced in French with its German name; likewise Burgdorf (formerly "Berthoud" and Solothurn (formerly "Soleure"), which I actually find a pity. Greetings!
This might be a silly question, but here goes: for "stops on request," is there any kind of advance signaling to the driver if someone is waiting at such a station to board, or it is it all "visual" as the train approaches the station platform? At any rate, thank you for the wonderful video. What a pity that this route is apparently so underutilized!
It's a great question. A good example is at 13:02. The blinking light was activated by a passenger at the station who pressed a button for the next train in this direction. But even if the light wasn't blinking, the driver has to slow down in case somebody in the train pressed the button too late, or somebody is waiting on the platform. So it's a bit of both. You'll notice we waited a while for the train we crossed a bit later on, which was due to the time we saved by not stopping everywhere.
