മാഡം പറഞ്ഞതിൽ മരാമന്ണിൽ ഡാം കെട്ടിയതായി പറയുന്നു. ഡാം അല്ല മണൽപരപ്പ് സംരക്ഷിക്കാൻ തിട്ട (side) കല്ല് കെട്ടിയതാണ്.
I still remember how my grandmother used to prepare onam feast for our Christian neighbors 40 years back at Kumbanad. They used bring cakes during Christmas. Such good memories and most of those old people are no more. Above all religious harmony is going down day to day.

I live at kakkanad,Ernakulam.All my neighbours are muslims.they always talk to me very politely & respectfully.they give me special biryani on occassions like birthday, Eid,Nabidin etc.I give them cakes, sweets etc. On X- mas, Easter etc.we live like same family.Sreelekha madam's speech should be inspiratioanal to all.

Appreciate Smt Sreeleka, IPS, Retd. I am from Maramon. I heard the incidence, did not know that it happened during your time. Thank you and appreciate, you managed the situation, which could have grownup as fight against two Political parties. As informed, we, largely who are not for Politics are peace loving people. The Hindu comunity in Maramon, Aranmula were given all supports for our Convention. For Christians, this is a meditation week. Same time, for Hindus, they celebrated this one week as Ulsawam of this land.
Madam, two main things you may please note.
1. No Dam like construction across the river. Only part bund.
Due to construction of few "Pulimuttu", to prevent the erosion of river sides, and due to change is the river water current, the sand bed slowly disappeared. So the Govt, Irrigation department build a bund in L shape, to a low height. This bund held the sand. In summer, the water flows through either side. In years, now the river flows on its right hand side only, west side. With this, any boats could travel even in the peak summer. With no bund, with no sand bed to one side, this could have been impossible. (Summer we could walk accross the river).
2. One of the leading Political Party came forwarded to fight it with Political power. , (mussle power) . Must appreciate, our then Sabha leader advised them, we will solve this with proper chanel.
Now i am Happy to know, it was you, the proper chanel.
3. Maramon Convention is organised by Sabha s mission field / Speaker's wings. Supported mainly by all the Marthoma Parishes, near by.
And supported by all the people living on both side of the river, without any religious and political barriers.
4. So the Politics are the trouble makers in any peaceful land.
5. The proposed Airport project, a massive development project, job generating project is also hindered by politicians only. If not, now this place should have known to whole world, should have known as a Heritage City of Kerala, of India.
Like Mysuru, Madurai, Thirupathi, Shirdhi, Ayodhya.

I think BJP and VHP raised issues again a few years back when the Shabarimala Women entry judgement came out. For a long time, women were not allowed to be part of Maramon, at the night yogams, which begins by 7 and ends by 9.30 pm. BJP raised the issue, that women must enter Maramon at night as well and that the court judgement was against Hindus in particular.
Some tensions were created during that year. However the then Mar Thoma of Malankara, His Beatitude Dr Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan very intelligently took a decision to prepon the evening session to begin at 05:30 pm and end by 07:00 pm and both men and women were allowed to participate. It was historical decision and gave a blowing strike to VHP and RSS leaders.
Haven't heard of BJP or RSS raising such a issue with women entry. My feeling is they supported the official stand of the church. It was some liberal-left members of Mar Thoma Church who protested not the BJP.

Even though marthoma church is a very small community but they do more social activities among poor without any discrimination
