1:52 No it was the other way around, Frenchbread came to Type Moon and Type Moon gave it ago. Cause that is for some reason the continued history of how things happen with TM, outside of FGO, someone always comes to them first.
I have a friend who's super into this series and is very excited for the next installment. I've never played a Melty Blood game and I'm excited to hop into the series with that new installment! Hopefully its not too complicated lol
It's absolutely one of the more complicated games that will require a lot of work before you can begin enjoying the full gameplay experience. As is common with indie-developed fighting games, aimed at the hardcore niche audience who want their games to be as complex and (as a result) unapproachable to non-hardcore audiences as possible. Clear evidence being how much this game is appealing to those who complain about/hate on Guilty Gear Strive for being "too simplified". Feel free to try it of you really want to, especially if you know someone who will be buying it and can play it with them before you buy it. Just don't expect it to be anywhere near as approachable as any other game genre you may already enjoy. It will likely not feel very rewarding until after at least 10 hours of matches and training mode and it will not have a playerbase size comparable to Guilty Gear Strive, Street Fighter, Tekken, Dragonball FighterZ, or Mortal Kombat. So there probably will not be a lot of beginner level players to be matched against. You WILL lose a lot and you WILL get locked down, made to feel like control of your character is taken away from you for many seconds per round and unable to deal with what's being thrown at you, due to the insane grimy pressure and mixups inherent to fighting games like this. If that sounds fun, then have at it. If not, then your money and time would be better spent elsewhere.
@@davis1228 I prefer to play fun games with good combos, I think that strive is very hated because his company destroyed a game that was very good, the problem with strive is not that it is simple, the game has many defects: excessively high damage, too short combos, very, very few obtions, I prefer 13 output characters than 15 characters who do not have the freedom to play as I want, a single character of melty blood type lumina is equivalent to 4 of guilty gear strive

Been with Melty since January 1, 2021. It is truly the most influential game for me of 2021, it got me into the fgc and it’s so cool seeing players like Yuu and Scrawt playing CSion as it opens my eyes on as to how she can be pushed. Melty also introduced me to many good friends and led me to going to locals to play with others in-person. The game is truly a masterpiece and I hope that the community grows bigger so more and more people can experience the joy that myself and others have experienced with the game.
2021's new year is the first one where I stay awake at midnight (yes, my timezone is one hours late than Japan) And of course, the trailer for both Tsukihime Remake and Fate/Grand Carnival were released. I also didn't know that there was a Type-Moon livestream that night. I don't remember the exact time, but damn, it's the most memorable new year I've had. Heck, even few days before 31st Dec, I joked about Tsukihime Remake being non existent at that time.
Great video! But I wanted to correct some misinformation on the type moon front since there’s some glaring misconceptions in this. There were never any plans to “update” tsukihime with more chapters. Tsukihime in and of itself is a complete game, and after its first release in 2000 there were two updated versions: Tsukihime plus-disk which contained some new character scenarios and Kagetsu Tohya, a fan disk semi-sequel. What BDTerra is referring to in 13:56 is the Tsukihime remake project. The remake project was teased in 2008 but actually, formally announced in 2012 with updated character designs and some small bits of info, but after that it stayed in development hell thanks in part to type moon’s main two creators, kinoko nasu (the main writer) and takashi takeuchi (the main illustrator and CEO of TM) were heavily hands-on with Fate grand order (the mobile spin off of the fate franchise), and the game stayed in limbo for the most part from 2014 to 2017 when development went back into the swing of things, all culminating in the New Years 2021 announcement This “20 years of development hell” part in 13:50 is 100% wrong btw. If anyone has any questions on this end I’d be happy to respond!
I was gonna comment because of the mistakes in the details, the video is clearly aimed just at fighting game elements while loosely searching on the rest. I'll add that Melty Blood isn't a "fanmade" game on top of the writer and artist being involved in it. The new Melty Blood is a reboot for the Tsukihime "remake", or more precisely a reimagining/different retelling/alternate timeline, and this time it's a prequel (which might explain the lack of Sion).
Correction of 9:54 - CCCaster is still to this day THE way to play melty blood AACC online, since its modded rollback is still much better than the Steam release's delay-based netcode.

Wait, a new Melty Blood game? Thx for the video, would prob fly under my radar if not for it. Used to play Act Cadenza back in the day with my brothers and nefew. Love that game still.
Great video, my first shot at Melty was with Act Cadenza. Is there a possibility to have a video about the other French-Bread fighting game, Under Night In-Birth?
To be honest, I thought I knew quite well about the FGC eventhought I barely have played them since 2007. This game has really gone off my radar and after its release, I had struggle to find where this thing has its roots. Thanks a lot for the video - this pretty much set up to get the game at some point :)
Oh wow, I never would have thought this game has such a deep and rich history, it's awesome that this video taught me this much, even though I'm already a decently deep Type-Moon fan to begin with.
I remember back in the days when I watched the anime and downloaded RE-ACT, played it quite a bit in my corner, I always told myself I would come back to it if I ever wanted to train reading japanese while playing a good fighting game :p It's cool to know there's a devoted FGC community around Melty Blood which is here to stay :)
Tsukihime was made by the same people who made the fate series, so 2001 they made Tsukihime, and in 2004 they made fate/stay night (if I remember the dates correctly). It’s a the same extended universe, but not the same one, there are no servants in the Tsukihime universe.
@@Kaimax61 Nasu actually explicitly put his foot down against servants in any of his other works because the power level is too extreme for anything other than Fate lmao

9:05 Of all TM anime to have a "legendary" Melty Blood version i never imagine it will be Carnival Phantasm Anyway for the price it just isn't help that Carnival Phantasm is loved by Fate and TM fans in general so the people who want the Melty Blood copy must compete with those people
Thanks for the Melty Blood feature! I didn't know the game still had a community of players going on, ever since I couldn't afford paying several hundred dollars to import the phantasm carnival DVD many years ago.
I think the inclusion of Saber from Fate (especially her FGO version) in the base game will help get more eyeballs on this and possibly open up dlc opportunities for continuing interest for years to come.
All the Fate only folks will come flocking and hopefully get interested in these games. I'm a bit salty that Saber has basically replaced Ryougi but I'll take a bigger playerbase and more fans as an upside to having to deal with Saber's face again.
I am 100% getting type lumina, but i have trouble juggling games. I gotta choose between strive and melty if i want to go competitive and i just can't decide. Whichever i go for gets all my effort for the rest of my fighting game days

And of course, the trailer for both Tsukihime Remake and Fate/Grand Carnival were released. I also didn't know that there was a Type-Moon livestream that night. I don't remember the exact time, but damn, it's the most memorable new year I've had.
Heck, even few days before 31st Dec, I joked about Tsukihime Remake being non existent at that time.

*cries in Overwatch*
Oh no...
Anyone know which Popeye's parking lots are hosting Melty Blood tournaments next year?
Great video! But I wanted to correct some misinformation on the type moon front since there’s some glaring misconceptions in this.
There were never any plans to “update” tsukihime with more chapters. Tsukihime in and of itself is a complete game, and after its first release in 2000 there were two updated versions: Tsukihime plus-disk which contained some new character scenarios and Kagetsu Tohya, a fan disk semi-sequel. What BDTerra is referring to in 13:56 is the Tsukihime remake project.
The remake project was teased in 2008 but actually, formally announced in 2012 with updated character designs and some small bits of info, but after that it stayed in development hell thanks in part to type moon’s main two creators, kinoko nasu (the main writer) and takashi takeuchi (the main illustrator and CEO of TM) were heavily hands-on with Fate grand order (the mobile spin off of the fate franchise), and the game stayed in limbo for the most part from 2014 to 2017 when development went back into the swing of things, all culminating in the New Years 2021 announcement
This “20 years of development hell” part in 13:50 is 100% wrong btw.
I found about melty a couple years ago through the whole bathroom meme. I'm still garbage, but this game makes even garbage feels good.
Correction of 9:54 - CCCaster is still to this day THE way to play melty blood AACC online, since its modded rollback is still much better than the Steam release's delay-based netcode.
Small correction, Tsukihime Remake was revealed on December 31st 2020 not January
Neco arc will arise. Hold my words.
holy fucking shit the name CCCaster is probably the most clever name a product has ever gotten in all of human history

As a long time Nasuverse enjoyer, my first dip onto the fgc was through melty blood.
Hot off the press! 5 second ago and I just casually check my subscriptions lol
This just in,
Saber is in Melty blood.
For Better or Worse, Saber is in Melty Blood

Wait, a new Melty Blood game?
Thx for the video, would prob fly under my radar if not for it.
Used to play Act Cadenza back in the day with my brothers and nefew. Love that game still.
I'm really happy to see this game blowing up like this
Great video, my first shot at Melty was with Act Cadenza. Is there a possibility to have a video about the other French-Bread fighting game, Under Night In-Birth?
Waldstein main here, 'sup?
I'm subscribing to this channel now. Amazing vid!
To be honest, I thought I knew quite well about the FGC eventhought I barely have played them since 2007. This game has really gone off my radar and after its release, I had struggle to find where this thing has its roots. Thanks a lot for the video - this pretty much set up to get the game at some point :)
No reference to the Melty Blood bathroom setup photo?
god the ryougi shiki theme of melty blood is pure fire
That representation of French Bread...
Oui~
I cant wait for this game
What most are unaware of is that we knew they were remaking Tsukihime as far back as 2013 at Anime Expo during the Fate/Stay Night Panel
Thank you for covering this game! I am so hype to play this in just a few days. The game truly needs more attention
Oh wow, I never would have thought this game has such a deep and rich history, it's awesome that this video taught me this much, even though I'm already a decently deep Type-Moon fan to begin with.
starting from the Bathroom...
and now we're in the Ballroom
I remember back in the days when I watched the anime and downloaded RE-ACT, played it quite a bit in my corner, I always told myself I would come back to it if I ever wanted to train reading japanese while playing a good fighting game :p
It's cool to know there's a devoted FGC community around Melty Blood which is here to stay :)
Tsukihime was made by the same people who made the fate series, so 2001 they made Tsukihime, and in 2004 they made fate/stay night (if I remember the dates correctly). It’s a the same extended universe, but not the same one, there are no servants in the Tsukihime universe.
until there is :D
Rules are meant to be broken in NASUverse.
@@Kaimax61 Nasu actually explicitly put his foot down against servants in any of his other works because the power level is too extreme for anything other than Fate lmao
@@arachnofiend2859 Jokes on you, they just announced Saber as a Guest Character. XD
RULE BREAKER.
@@Kaimax61 to be clear, I dont actually give a shit especially in the context of a fighting game that desperately needs more characters with character designs more interesting than "high schooler in skirt". I thought Nasu's comments were funny and frankly they're even funnier now that they've been contradicted so quickly
I love these videos! They make me hyped about a new fighting game and it's community!
Comiket is for a specific type of game and comic.
last time i played this game was in 2004. really looking forward to the new chapter in this series.
I would love to see more love for Battle for the Grid
Dude, French Bread is legit. They made my favorite brawler of all time, Ragnarok Battle Offline.
Aoko is peak fighting game design because when you are the strongest you can dress however you want
The titles for the guests speaking in this video get more and more hilarious XDD
As a fan of tsukihime and melty I must say I love the attention to detail in everything in this video, specially the interviews! Excellent work
Lmao seeing baby face lordknight at evo 2010 made my day
I got this series in my radar because I play a bit of uniclr, and found it while just looking at unique fighters and arc fighters that had arc system involved. Finally picked up lumina, and it's p cool so far.
I happy for all the fans of this game.
It's like waiting for Half life 3 for almost eternity, then finally out of nowhere a miracle!
Ah yeah, I got my bathroom set up ready to go. We MELTY BOIS NOW.
Thank you for this.
I really hope after this, Type Moon and French-bread make a new Fate fighting game thats 2D.
Heres hoping for an FGO fighting game.

Cu as training partner. Feel free to you know, the usual.
Pretty much all I need from this channel now is a DOA video
Please
No fucking way did they replace Shiki and Arc with Neco Arc in the thumbnail
Such a solid video about the history of melty blood huge props for ya.
SHIELD SPAMMER BY DAY,
S**TPOSTER BY NIGHT
Gonna have to use that one someday
9:05 Of all TM anime to have a "legendary" Melty Blood version i never imagine it will be Carnival Phantasm
Anyway for the price it just isn't help that Carnival Phantasm is loved by Fate and TM fans in general so the people who want the Melty Blood copy must compete with those people
It's hidden cause we play on bathroom stalls
Holy shit....I've been wishing a video on Melty for months, didn't think it'd actually come
Thanks for the Melty Blood feature! I didn't know the game still had a community of players going on, ever since I couldn't afford paying several hundred dollars to import the phantasm carnival DVD many years ago.
I hope you still found a way to watch Carnival Phantasm. It's fun stuff.
Never got the chance to play the old melty but I'm versed in many fighting games. I played the visual novel and maaaan I'm playing tohno
I think it's time to update this video
Tbh, wouldn't even mind spending $500 for the glorious Carnival Phantasm.
Even if i don't like the bland ui and removal of the moon system, i'm very hyped for this game, because Melty Blood is my favorite fighting game
