Melty Blood Type Lumina is now here! For many people this will be their first melty blood game ever, and with exactly that in mind here is your beginners guide to Melty! In this video I try to be as thorough as I can without being fully exhaustive weighing you down with obscure minutiae, this guide will give you everything you need to know to get your feet on the ground in this newest Melty Blood game!
I'm gonna be honest, this game's system mechanics feel a lot closer to UNI than Melty, but the characters and combos are all Melty... And honestly I love that
Universal Defense in Melty are pretty strong compare to UNI though. Shield mechanic overhaul with Moon Drive and a bunch of follow up afterward made the mind game nuts. UNI defense was very....limited.

I preordered this game weeks ago just knowing you were gonna pop up with an in-depth tutorial video on how it works. That’s speaks to the confidence I have in you as a UA-camr. I can tell you take this very seriously and we are all very appreciative!
I very much take my job seriously. Its caused a lot of no-sleep nights but I know a lot of people rely on me especially when it comes to new games/patches so I will always be here for everyone when that happens.
I don't know if I can think of any game that has a frame counter for each individual input that shows in the input log like that, that's actually really useful. If you're trying to make sure you're canceling early as possible, seeing if you got a delay right, timing links, etc. That's really dope.
Though I haven't bought this game yet, I appreciate seeing this basic guide to help me understand how its general mechanics worked compared to other fighting games! Personally, I think the ability to steer in the air is cool since it's not common in most traditional fighting games (I know DBFZ lets you do that on a superjump). On another note! I love that the input history even counts the frames in each input! (I know Virtua Fighter's one of the few games that's done this too for its training mode!) ^^
Yo i just thought I’d say ur genuinly the goat fgc content creator, nobody makes informative stuff in the way that you do. When somebody asks me questions about learning a fighting game I usually forward them a few of ur videos
"Saber the weird guest character" lol how odd for a type moon character to be in a type moon game 🤣🤣 Whats next? A fatal fury character in a KoF game?!?!
After seeing the universal mechanics, I want a big and slow grappler in the game even more. They traditionally have big, single hit normals rather than long combos, which in theory would mean they build Moon Guage quicker than the other characters. But in contrast, their normals would most likely be slower, which means they’d be the easiest to parry, which could be an interesting dynamic. And maybe they’d lack run and airdash normally, but gain it during Moon Drive state? So you’d momentarily go from slow and lumbering to an airdashing grappler! They’d also be the scariest character during Blood Heat, as you’d be scared too press buttons against them in case they’d parry, which then leaves you open to get grappled The more I think about this, the more I want it lol
This could be dope, but I think the air dash and mobility is a core aspect of melty blood that all characters are built around. I dont see them adding any big grapplers in this one, if they did make them super fast and crazy they would be like Android 16 during DBFZ season 1 lol aka too busted
@@imafreewin4708 That's why I'd like it if it's a grappler that's slow by default (Potemkin-esque), that then gets mobility in small burtst via Moon Drive. This way you have to switch between long to midrange footsies to build Moon Gauge, to then zooming in with an airdash and grab them. And since the mobility would be meter restricted, it'd be less likely to be busted right out of the gate. And it'd still be relatively on theme with the rest of the cast, as every other character gets an extra jump & airdash during Moon Drive; the grappler simply starts out with 0 airdashes, and thus only they have 1 during Moon Drive, as opposed to 2 like the rest of the cast. I respect that the game is built around high mobility and combos; that's clearly the type of fighting game the devs love to make. But as a grappler player, I'd want just a single character who break the norm ever so slightly, just to add some variety. But I could also understand if it's simply an element they don't want players to deal with in this game.
Holy fuck, you're the same guy that made me into Guilty with that May's combo and Pot kara cancel video months ago, and now you're teaching me how to play Melty, thank you so much!!

Great looking stuff! One thing I wanted to mention here, the Blood Heat, Shield-activated version of your Last Arc (Level 4) does more damage the more time you had left in Blood Heat on activation. If your guage was high enough when it was triggered, it'll actually do more damage than the normal version of the Last Arc!

No discussion of rapid beat, vital source, forced release, beat edge, moon skill, moon drive, arc drive, awakening, last arc, blood heat, or fatal counter when the game itself does an exceptionally horrible job of explaining how these functions work. I think most people who purchase MB:TL know that face buttons deal damage and directions are dependent on directional inputs from a D-Pad or Joystick. What we are looking for is how the game actually works.
You can enter moon mode to reset your combo. Ex: A,B,C, B+C, A,B,C Really useful if you special gets blocked or if you want to cancel it into something else
Its an odd thing, because now we are at the crossroads starting with DBFZ. DBFZ added auto combos that become part of the main gameplay at every level of play, whereas kof 15 is going the route of auto combos are strictly beginner/newbie filler. Melty autocombos will def be like DBFZ in that we will all be using them at some point I think.

I think a video about "air-footsies", air to air conversions in to a combo, and just general defense against jumping opponents would be helpful for people new to melty blood like me since the typical "press your anti-air when they jump" isn't usually applicable in this game
