Totally agree. I still hear a lot of music that inspires me a hundred times and more, because I love good music and of course I now every part of the song...
Solo parts are important for me, because they are the highlight of a song, an emotional and musical outbreak to the theme of the song. If I'm playing my own songs, I want to make it unique in a way. The solo don't have to be long or fast, just good and special in a way, that you keep this solo in mind.
Exactly!! A lot of the best solos are not flashy or even super fast and technical but just what the song calls for… on other instances it’s like the climax of the song, think about November Rain for instance… it’s an ok song and then the solo hits… and it hits hard!
When I was constantly listening to Metallica in my early teens, back then I didn't learn to play bass or guitar, and I could still remember most of Kirk's solos and recognize the song just by the solo. I started hating Kirk's guts long time ago, nowadays I wish someone should tell him to stop giving out any public statements.
Hahaha that would be wise actually… Kirk has gotten more and more lazy over the years. I mean, it’s “fine”, just don’t be trying to justify it with weak excuses…

Always appreciate a good guitar solo. Memorable most Pink Floyd, anything off of Van Halen' 1984 album and for whatever reason Whitesnake's Here I Go Again Solo has taken residency in my brain.
Hell yeah dude! I get why everyone of them solos would be memorable for you... I still can't believe Kirk thought saying this was a good idea...
When I was a non-musician and was getting a bit into music (specifically Queen) I always remembered the solos. They were some of the best parts of the songs. And guitar solos from bands like Queen, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd are what made me pick up the guitar, because I thought they were so cool, and they stuck with me. Sure, now that I’m a guitar player with better understanding of these solos, I can remember them better and in more detail, but even before I picked up a guitar, the solos were in my mind.
YOU GET IT. Of course, solos were some of the most exciting parts of the songs! Especially those by the greats! The solos on You Don't Fool Me, Don't Try So Hard, The Millionaire Waltz immediately come to mind! Of course Bijou, Last Horizon... man... I could go (through the eons! 😉 ) and on and on. I also picked up the guitar because of these solos... I could CARE LESS about the riffs haha that was the time to shine and make that guitar weep! Look at Don't stop me now. NO GUITAR until the unforgettable Solo. That was all me! haha
Ironic cuz Kirk’s solos on One inspired me (at the time had never touched a guitar before) learn guitar…

Totally my dude! That was the overall sentiment I wanted to share… his own work included; solos have been a staple and a source of inspiration for generations of guitar players…

Kirk is looking for excuses to justify his own laziness and lack of creativity. Metallica as a whole has stopped trying to be the trailblazers in the metal genre. since Justice. Now they lay back on their past accomplishments simply settling for mediocrity. As a band they have released more average and below average material than the legendary material of their heyday. I won't knock just how hard working they are and how much touring they do.
I'd love to hear Kirk write some material that doesn't rely on a wah pedal or elementary solo phrases. Isn't metal music all about pushing boundaries?
I totally agree! It's all about being faster, cleaner and overall "better" at whatever instrument you play... I'm sorry Kirk decided to check out so long ago...
