I am over 60 so I am not suppose to like St. Vincent, but I do, ya! I got hooked on her when I saw her perform on Saturday Night Live. I always had a taste for music that differed from a lot of my friends. It started with the Mothers of Invention and Captain Beefheart. I later got into techno such as Kraftwerk and then went to groups such as Sparks and Talking Heads. Oh well, I'm happy.
no different than we young 'uns enjoying music from your era. some of those very bands as well as CAN and neu or gainsbourg, scott walker and bowie. music is universal....there's no age limit.
I've not heard her albums yet fully, just songs from each, but I hope somewhen in her body of work she goes all out and does a jam album. Something really wild, not restricted or confined to track times, just pushing the boat out. The St. Vincent ship, hhhhhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrrrrn. That's a boat horn (without the o).
Ernie Ball just created a St. Vincent Musicman signature guitar. Pretty cool. There's a poster here that thinks St. Vincent can't play guitar. I wonder if he has a signature guitar.
Sometimes it's not the technique or accuracy with the way a guitar is played, but the glorious noise in which is created with. Plus, the time is right for uniqueness in rock n roll. St. Vincent is awesome!
Saw St Vincent in Liverpool ...simply Incredible, they are Fantastic live ,everything you hear on the video is played to the same excellent high standard well done AC , The Band also her excellent sound crew what a team, what a show! Annie Clark / St Vincent is arguably the hottest new ORIGINAL talent to emerge in a LONG, LONG TIME! Thank you God .

After watching a Devo concert, this came up and I was like "What's this?"And cared for the dreamlike, hypnotizing quality of the unorthodox chord progressions and her pleasant voice. That synthesizer is far out!

This is her best performance she's ever done - on ANY stage! I'm glad I found it again on UA-cam. During Digital Witness, her hand choreography is unique and mesmerizing. Catch the last song, Birth In Reverse. It is the only performance of that song where they had a decent cameraman and video director. They get all the synchronized dual guitar moves in frame. And they show the magical tiny step dance, usually without the feet in full view. It looks like a magic trick of guitar playing moves. This was a great night for the band and the enthusiastic fans who just look like they are surprised and blown away!
Not used to this kind of music but have to say she's really fascinating. Since I remember Hendrix performance on the Isle of Wight, I can objectively say she's doing a real good job. App
First saw them at Coachella 10 years ago, been a fan ever since. I guess they won't be to everyone's taste (my wife goes nuts when I play them) but I love quirky and unique. Annie is the heart and soul, but Toko is the secret weapon!
She sang my favorite Nirvana song during the Music Hall of Fame (that's what I call it) induction and I was totally hooked. Digital Witness is an incredible song, and she has so much style and determination. Now I am listening to St. Vincent with David Byrne, and Love this Giant is great stuff!! The two of them are like kindred spirits. Plus she has that cool high-heeled shuffle. The total package with Annie and St. Vincent!
She's a lot more interesting and captivating a presence on stage in this performance than in some of the individual performances I've seen on TV, such as on Jools Holland, when she went for a very stoic, more subdued stage presence. Her idiosyncratic movement, performance art sort of vibe, all her own, plus her unique guitar playing style, very cool . . .
To: The people who think she can't play guitar. She's this century's David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix all rolled neatly into a new age catalyst that will launch a million new artists into their own. Please have some respect, the sound might be too new for you yet, give it some time, you'll come to enjoy it. Promise. Remember what people said about the Rolling Stones when they first got started. (They didn't like them much for your info.)
Who said anything about me not playing guitar? Or that im a guy? Im a female musician in my third year at Juliard school of music. I study classical guitar as my major, and music composition as my minor. Larry Scheller, you know nothing.
tobin jordan I got A's in theory 1,2,3,4 and jazz lab so I obviously know something . Do you play Recuerdos de la Alhambra ? /G/G/Gm/C7b9/ F/........what is the function of the Gm ? Can you improvise on " Giant Steps " ? Tell me where I can hear Annie playing something that is more than entry level intermediate or sound like she understands theory .
John Doe Everyone that understands music didn't have a formal education . Hendrix understood it to a degree and most of the great jazz players understood or understand it very well . You can't improvise over NON diatonlc chord progressions without understanding the logic of the progression ! Tobin and Annie don't know what they're talking about !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I listen to Annie play or try and talk theory it's hard to believe she even got into Berklee !
larry scheller Yeah but his self-training wasn't anything like Annie's. If anything she plays her guitar like a synthesizer, everything seems pretty neat and meticulous. Jimi's music was always allot more organic. I'm not trying to argue the level of music intellect either one has, it was dumb of me to bring it up. Rather I meant to point out the habits they fell into.
Took me a second to get up to speed on her too....Also reminds me of Jessica Dobson of Deep Sea Diver--another super strong guitar player, modern, though not as dramatic a presentation as St Vincent. Both are great.
Not crazy about the electro pop vibe of most of her tunes (adding Matt Johnson HELPS)but this version of Cheerleader really points the way... it is very hard to knock anything A.C. is doing because she is breaking new ground which is so very rare these days.
When I told you I love it wasn't because it was supposed to go away. It was supposed to make us stay. and make us the way, they make us love each other that much more like people do responsible people.
That must have been a ball. I've not seen anyone live on acid, but I did take acid recently and listen to what I had planned to listen to which was Silverchair's Diorama album. It was nice, intense, but it took me into some hairy moments, sketchy, I just braced myself and rode through it. I got stoned a couple of weeks ago and discovered and listened to St. Vincent for the first time though. I was puzzled by her, I didn't know what she was doing, I just knew that I quite enjoyed it, that I enjoyed watching her enjoy whatever it was she was doing (these were the two videos of her playing with Andrew Bird). Then I got stoned a night or two later or whenever it was, might have been a week later or almost, and I went through practically all of her music videos in a very drawn out blissful state. I was blown away by her versatility and eclectic styles. She's incredible, really. First I've bought her collaborative album with David Byrne and I love it. I look forward to getting her other albums soon - I find her voice comforting and I could do with being comforted in the next few months because of some upheaval in my life and choices I have to make, but also I like how her music appeals to the imagination. One can lose oneself to most music but it's quite rare for music to really tap into the imagination - I know what I mean by this, anyway. Her evocative lyrics, creative music videos and overall originality is a real buzz, terribly pleasing. I'm just besotted, kinda. Can ya tell? And one last thing, just 'cause. I understand that she's gender fluid, she'll dig someone no matter of their gender, if she has feelings for someone then she has feelings for someone. I think that's great, although I sort of have a greater respect for her to hear she's with a woman currently. It shows she's got the brains to not bother with most men (ha), more power to her (and women altogether). Yee-harrrrr!
Take a little bit of Annie Lennox's voice, a little bit of Karftwerk, a little bit of Madonna at her very best, and finally a little bit of Talking Heads and you'll get this lovely lady.

+Rudy Judy You've good taste
Trout Mask Replica is an abomination.
Rudy Judy that was me through school, I had an ear for the new under ground sound before they blew up all my friends said I listened to weird music.
I wish she'd play longer guitar solos - she's an amazing guitarist

Ernie Ball just created a St. Vincent Musicman signature guitar. Pretty cool. There's a poster here that thinks St. Vincent can't play guitar. I wonder if he has a signature guitar.

I love how she put her foot on the camera during her guitar solo in Rattlesnake😂

When you're St. Vincent, you can do anything you want. Even this -> 5:10
Actually she didn't do very much just a whole tone bend on a double stop (NOT THAT MUCH !) and some basic tapping .
larry scheller I was talking about putting her foot right on the camera.
larry scheller Except it's not a double stop, she's using an octave pedal so it sounds like it.
