- St. Vincent’s 2009 album “Actor” feels like the point when Annie Clark found her unique lane with her musical project. Lush arrangements, ripping guitar work, big choruses and thoughtful songwriting - things we’ve come to love and associate with the mega indie-pop star. Her appearance on KCRW in 2010 is a confident and bold performance that features highlights from the early part of her career.

8:21 Just the Same but Brand New

The future did, indeed, have big plans for her
I literally re-fall in love with Annie every time I see a new performance
Actor is truly a masterpiece
Actor, Marry me y Strange Mercy su mejores álbumes.... hasta la fecha, sin duda
@@renatosotomayor2056 Exactly. After that things got spotty but we’ll always have these three albums.
tru
Structurally, the album art, the way I experienced it, reminds me of "Low" by Bowie
Wish she would revisit this era with an orchestra
I think this is my favorite tour Annie ever did, closely followed by the S/T tour.
wow just the same but brand new sounds magical live
This takes me back to the time I snuck into a sold out St. Vincent concert in Toronto, just after this album came out. She was playing Marry me as I waded through the crowd to the front and I was mesmerized until the very end. The instrumentation on this album has been my favourite by far, along with Marry Me, though I have enjoyed her more psych-freak-future era of music, but this was always the one I fell in love with. It's cool to see Daddy's Home bringing back the 70's vibes, but her shows will never be as good as when Actor came out and blew everyone away! Thanks for posting this, it's still awesome so many years later!
This is, to date, my favorite St. Vincent live line up.
I love the simplicity of the set up. No silly costumes and gimmicks like the current line up, just pure music.
feel the same
Yes!! This was taken down for years. This is one of her best performances for sure.
Wow, this is a decade old. Thank you KCRW!
21:35 is such a genuinely cute and heartfelt moment where the band is just vibing so so hard. and is also me discovering new ‘old’ performances of her. ugh actor is a masterpiece.
please never delete this video I'll die
The dude in the green shirt realizing the magic during this take of “Actor Out of Work” is totally priceless!
Love her songwriting from this era
I miss this era of hers
What a fantastic rendition of Black Rainbow.
This performance was legendary
this is the coolest thing ever I love you Annie
Fave version of “Just the same But brand new” ever
I always felt it was lacking something on the album, not that it wasn't good, just underperformed compared to the rest. This proves her talent, a fantastic song.
aftrimg I felt somewhat similarly the first few times I listened to Actor. In hindsight I realize how heartbreaking lyrics like “The letters stopped unceremoniously in June, So I changed my I’s and A’s to yours” I think with the added live orchestration and guitar ad libs in the breakdown it fills out the song nicely and fits it to the palette of the rest of the record more cohesively
It is absolutely amazing chills every time
It's my first time hearing St. Vincent. They're so fucking amazing, this performance is a masterpiece
es una solista, su verdadero nombre es Annie Clark. la abnda que la acompaña fue mutando con los años, ya no existe esta formacion
THAT was a classic
this is how I am listening to Actor from now on! Amazing performance and performers.
This is one of my favorite performances ever.
the video quality makes it seem that 2010 was 40 yrs ago, its surreal how much tech has involved and how ethereal annie looks in any space time continuum reality.
She doesn't do that riff in the chorus of Save Me From What I Want on the album and I've been trying to find good footage of it for so long, from 7.10 where she layers the vocals along to that riff is just SO good, it's ALL so fucking good. I'll always cherish her 1st 2 albums the most.
Same with the ACL 2009 versions of “The Party” and “Your Lips Are Red”. I love those so much more than the studio versions or any posterior live renditions of those tunes… The Actor-era ensemble was the best she ever played with, imo…
@@vicentecontrerassoux1660 Agreed. They're absolutely gorgeous, unique!
i love her so much like if i realy knows her
Best St Vincent era
Beautiful...and see how far she's travelled musically and creatively since.
I miss the raw annie. rip
Everything I keep finding of hers just gets better..
This was ages ago. Surprisingly, its' in colours!
So creative. What an artist.
Thank you so much for uploading this. I love every era of St. Vincent's music, a true treat to hear this live!
Laughing... is one of my fav. I'm happy she played it that time😊
Just 👏🏾 the 👏🏾 same 👏🏾 but 👏🏾 brand 👏🏾 new 👏🏾
Real ones remember this
An astounding and wonderful musical experience 👌
Gawd I love this show!
she never fails to amaze me
thanks for posting, been a fan of hers for many many years
Annie has been my type since I was a 14 y/o growing up in Dallas. She defined what my type became.
This is such a treat. Thank you for uploading this performance. 😭❤️
Thanks for watching! ;)
Miss some of these songs in her recent tours. She's great. ❤
This woman has to be some sort of genuis
Thank you so much for this. I first heard her music on SNL in 2014. I had no idea who she was. I fell head first in to a collection of music and art that has totally blown me away. Annie is a true artist. I can't wait for what's next.
Gracias por tanto. ❤️
It's so gentil this music, tank you very much!
This should have 8 billion views
paradise
Master musicians
Annie, I feel you dawg 🙏
❤
I read an interview with Annie Clark about the time Actor was released and wanted to hear more. Thanks to UA-cam and KCRW, this was the first one I got to listen to. Still listening today. She was wearing no obvious makeup and a shredded sweater and the music was all that mattered. Have to agree with the person who posted that they miss this era. Just not as big a fan of the music made with Jack Antonoff.
Ok, he estado esperando este video por años, y ni siquiera sabía que existía
Soooo good ! Bob.G
Es una delicia!
St Vincent is like spinach. First, you hate it. Then you like it a lot!
ten years ahead of everything else.
Ah, that’s history
Ace .... I'm not use to applause when my Bowie set ends .... just one person watching me and she was deaf ... signed the autograph book though
great performances and thanks for uploading but the auto inserted ads are f*cking annoying! keep popping up near the end of the songs
I wonder where her sweater is now
I would like to be her sweater
this looks like it was filmed in 1990 lol
21:08 she's so cool ffs
Кто после All born screaming?
A new fans maybe... Italy olso is not that far... Meybe you... ®️🎩🔯
LoL... feels like contemporary music 😮
Band is great. Wonderwhy she ditched them on Mass Seduction. Always thought it was a money thing to cut the cost of touring.
I think she just likes to work with different artists. Gives the different tours different flavours
Black rainbow sounds like ducks
Wish she had continued focusing on the music, not so much on the image. Oh well...
It's sad you can't appreciate it now
Thanks for posting! If you have a second, I uploaded a cover of Marvin Gaye. As a fellow music lover, I'd love if you would take a listen. It's on my page. Hope you like it!
you know what this is missing?
a drummer. they need a drummer. wtf, they have a saxophonist and a multi-clarinet-piano-bassist-dejected weirdo but where tf is the drummer?
tf he plays flute too?
don't half-ass anythingn, whole-ass one thing. ffs...
There is a drummer! They show him from time to time.
Drummer is present, behind Annie, to her right. You can see her in the reflection of his acoustic panel at 2:42, 10:41, and 20:53.
But why is he dejected?.. is he the Sad Clown or is he sad Annie won't come his way
