I remember watching this at a friends place after a recording session. Both of us stoned to oblivion, looking for something to trip on. I remember after every song, both of us would look at each other, say stuff like 'God himself must be their audio engineer', 'they must have discovered the cheat code for music' etc till they began playing again and we were staring at the monitor once again , trying to take it all in , transfixed, consumed by the heavenly phenomenon that is radiohead.
I will never tire of this performance, this album. This session is up there with Kid A and OK Computer as one of the best things they've ever released. Weird Fishes/Arpeggi is the greatest song since Kid A and OK, in my top 5 of the group it has that magic mood. Plain beautiful, genius guitar/piano work. I should mention Reckoner also.
+paulo j. blizzard There will always be people who doesn't like the band (for whatever reason I still can't understand), but everyone should admit they are more than amazing musicians; they're genius.
i'm 44 years old peruvian mother, i remember 18 years ago one of my 5 childs show me the single "anyone can play the guitar" and since that moment radiohead turns in my favourite band (sorry my english sucks)
kenneth bell, you didn't think they were known so widely? Lol they have sold 30+ million albums (or even 50+ according to some sources) and they are one of the most influential bands!
I'm a 48 year old mama - I introduced my son to Radiohead when he was little. I took him to see his first concert when he was 14 - it was In Rainbows. What an incredible band - and an unbelievable time we had! Radiohead is our favorite band. We want to go see them in Europe or South America next time they tour. Family trip

Excellent audio quality, and you can see exactly who is playing what strange, beautiful part you are hearing, with no distracting, MTV-like camera angles & flashing lights. Epic. Classic. Beautiful. Mindblowing. Melancholic. The highest Level of perfection. The quality of this is undescribable. I get sad and happy at the same time, listening to these Genious members of one of the best bands in the World.
Reckoner You can't take it with you Dancing for your pleasure You are not to blame for Bittersweet distractor Dare not speak its name Dedicated to all you All human beings Because we separate Like ripples on a blank shore Because we separate (In rainbows) Like ripples on a blank shore (In rainbows) Reckoner Take me with you Dedicated to all you All human beings
I had no idea how versatile this group is. They are some wonderful musicians. I don't know how I missed them. Glad to have discovered them ... great find for me. This made my very tough few days so much better.
This isnit just music. it's fucking art! The way he's performing, feeling and living the music is like being intoxicated by the music. he's singing like he never sang before: so raw, so pure so incredible beautiful, that it's almost painful. His way of expressing passion touches me that it's haunting me. And his voice is like as if heaven and hell are kissing! I feel a little jealous, because he is expressing his inner feelings in a way, that many people are afraid of and this makes me somehow sad. Radiohead's music is helping me so much and im deeply in love with their music.
I predict less comments like yours Sawyer. Many different bands have the same type of resonance with different people. Music is formless and beautiful. So are Radiohead and Muse
Reckoner - refers to the ultimate reckoning, death - being held to account. As per videotape, in which he references the “videotape' of his deeds being presented at the ‘pearly gates’ - entrance to heaven. You can’t take it with you - is about the impermanence of things, of life being a fleeting event - and the accumulation of wealth or status being of only temporal value. Bittersweet distractors - again talking about being distracted from the really valuable events of life by the bitter or sweet distractions of activities that add up to nothing at death. Dedicated to all human beings - this is the thing that unites us, this message is universal. We separate like ripples on a blank shore - this is a huge lyric, referencing the never-ending cycle of life and death - human existences ending continuously and ceaselessly like waves breaking on a shore. There’s more to it though, poetically, the energy is being released, freed from motion. The line “in rainbows” gives the impression of being refracted into energy - into beauty. Reckoner, take me with you - this is an aching half-wish for the release of death, to be carried away. Not mine, but just wanted to share it with you. :D
Better late to the party than never ay.... Personally I much prefer the less polished "ScotchMist" of InRainbows they performed for Current TV, New Year 2007. Sat on my own, content letting these incredible songs and LSD wash over me. A special day indeed 🚬💊🎼🎸🎵🎤🎶🎶🎶🎶〽〽😎❤
+Turrican Amiga im a grammar nazi, but karma police caught me. So I had to make a grammar mistake. God knows how much I suffered... Karma Police allowed me to correct it
I don't think so. Nigel Godrich is on fire on the production of in Rainbows. 15 Steps gives me goosebumps every time due to the amazing texture which is lacking in this version
This album will never get old. I find it to be Radiohead's sweetest and kind-spirited work. Hail To The Thief is their most angry record, while in Rainbows is their most friendly album. It's amazing how they change so abruptly from album to album.
Body snatchers by far the most impressive. Just watch how lost everyone gets and are at MAXIMUM jamming going on… it’s truly amazing. You can tell this is one they love to play and destroyed it here for real. Radiohead is on another level entirely.
If you watch the entire thing you can understand what seperates Radiohead from other musicians/bands. There's a wide range of sounds, tones and effects here. Their sonic variation and eclecticism is unmatched.

This video makes me feel open and feeds me as a writer. It makes me more open to appreciate and make associations between works in all mediums. That must be a mark of greatness and timelessness.
Same thing happened to me , I was so into muse in high school until my classmate told me about RH and I heard "House of Cards"on a radio program , totally rocked my world.
I've come to the conclusion that this is the best video on the internet
praise internet
not even the answer to life, the universe and everything else can trump it.

Honestly can't disagree with you.

Music like this reminds me that everything is going to be all right.

I bet the in ear monitors help real well but yup, doesn't miss a beat.
And the Machine on Videotape is like a guy.
Bloody Syncopation ...
He have The metronome in the in ears.
Yeah
You play together in a band for _this long_
you're gonna end up TIGHT! :D
Phil Selway is one of the most underrated drummers. Dude is SO precise, especially when it comes to some of the really off-time rhythms the band likes to use.
I'm amazed at how Thom can sing perfectly and play the technical pieces on guitar simultaneously
Baron Scott take a look at him playing the clock on the henry rollins show,
Baron Scott agree
when you compose and write the song then it's easier / muscle memory done with instinct
and bob his head around like a coked-out contortionist
you learn it when playing and singing by yourself in the darkness of your room
One of the greatest bands of all time in my opinion.
i agree with agression!!!
def agree, buddy

Weird how much i get how you were feeling
There is such a maturity to this band that makes me wonder what I ever saw in other bands.
behindthelimb OMG same.
But it’s also loose and relaxed... but so precise. Does that make sense?
Gee I couldn't agree more
@behindthelimb
lol. i am usually watching your videos, now i am seeing your comment here^^ greetings!
and yes, great band! i am getting into them right now..
some other bands that matured nicely are Brand New and Incubus.
Now all we need is a Kid A from the Basement.
Josh Thomson That would be amazing.

One and only...
I'm not sure how Johnny Rotten can call Radiohead 'soulless'. The Sex Pistols were amazing but this is probably the best band since the Beatles
patrickJMT im, have you heard genesis ot other prog? Talking Heads inspired this band
If Mr. Rotten said that, then he was probably speaking with his head stuck way up in in the clouds, (in the most fundamental sense).
Gtfo. Not even close
I discovered Radiohead late in life. Wow, they are amazing. That angelic voice, amazing percussion, melodic guitar, and cool weird stuff on keyboards.

In Rainbows is a masterpiece, so is this live recording. Yorke is a genius.
One of the greatest bands of the last 30 years.
you couldve stopped after the word ''bands''
or drop the "One of"
or just write greatest band .. that's all
you must be fun at parties
aye fuck off you boring piece of fuck
"Geez Thom, leave some guitar parts for the rest of us" - Ed, probably
As much as I love Radiohead I cannot comprehend what Thom is trying to achieve with his dancing.
"trying to achieve" is a strange way to think about dancing, no?
Anyway, I'd rather have post-2002 dancing Thom who seems to enjoy his job, instead of 1997 miserable bastard Thom who thought being in Radiohead was the shittest gig in music.
9outof10 Contentment is the enemy of invention
T0mat0S0up if In Rainbows, or indeed if this performance, was born out of contentment then I'd say that's a pretty good advert for contentment.
9outof10 I'd say Thom can create great music in any given mood. He's that good.
Just enjoy the music and stop overanalyzing Thom's movements.

Radiohead - In Rainbows Live from Basement 2008 -
[Thom Yorke Jonny Greenwoon Ed O'Brien Colin Greenwood Phil Selway]
I just spent the last 54:50 of my New Years day listening to this masterpiece. Simply incredible.
That's not a basement, that's heaven
lost_in_the_dark my heaven
For real
What makes you think that Heaven isn't a basement!
You see how he feels every moment of the songs. I love that passion he has for what he does because it's like there's nothing more, just music.
Weird Fishes/Arpeggi is the greatest song since Kid A and OK, in my top 5 of the group it has that magic mood. Plain beautiful, genius guitar/piano work. I should mention Reckoner also.
Hard to argue with that.
I must disagree because I think All I Need is even better.
Better than Reckoner? I think not...
definitely
most of their music is just magic
I average watching this once a month, listening twice a month, maybe 3 years running now. thanks thom and gang and weird fishes
it's almost as if the music melts in your ears
No matter how hard you try and find one, there isn't a better band than Radiohead around, hasn't been for the last twenty years.. Absolute quality.
+paulo j. blizzard There will always be people who doesn't like the band (for whatever reason I still can't understand), but everyone should admit they are more than amazing musicians; they're genius.
Stalin Escudero Ruiz In terms of sheer quality, creativity and artistry, they are the best.
Fresh Prince ..
try mathrock. check bands like clever girl, this town needs guns, CHON, monobody for example.
I had to punch my own ears until CHON stopped when they played Hevy last year. it was just jazz wankery. really twangy bright jazz wankery.
UK is a gold mine when talking about great rock/pop/progressive/indie bands. God Bless UK.
César Albuquerque Arnt so agree. I hate living in the us
This drums player is like a punchcard machine.
His name is Phil Selway, and yes, try to one better !
i'm 44 years old peruvian mother, i remember 18 years ago one of my 5 childs show me the single "anyone can play the guitar" and since that moment radiohead turns in my favourite band (sorry my english sucks)
Cecilia Limachi a) your English is very good, don't worry. b) that is a genuinely heartwarming story
Great Cecilia just didn't think they were known so widely. No 2 Albums the same-contstantly challenging work. Fantastic technical music-making.
kenneth bell, you didn't think they were known so widely? Lol they have sold 30+ million albums (or even 50+ according to some sources) and they are one of the most influential bands!
I'm a 48 year old mama - I introduced my son to Radiohead when he was little. I took him to see his first concert when he was 14 - it was In Rainbows. What an incredible band - and an unbelievable time we had! Radiohead is our favorite band. We want to go see them in Europe or South America next time they tour. Family trip

Can't believe it's been 13 years since I first watched this video. Classic is forever. Thom, you are.
This is one of the best live concert video/audio recordings ever, imho! Excellent audio quality, and you can see exactly who is playing what strange, beautiful part you are hearing, with no distracting, MTV-like camera angles & flashing lights. Just pure, amazing, beautiful, superb musicians making pure, amazing, beautiful & superb music! This video has 371,000+ views and should have 371,000 likes! Genius!

Epic. Classic. Beautiful. Mindblowing. Melancholic. The highest Level of perfection. The quality of this is undescribable. I get sad and happy at the same time, listening to these Genious members of one of the best bands in the World.
my only wish was they had played Jigsaw Falling into Place too :(
same.
Easily one of my favourites on the album.
thoms not very good at singing that one because of the lower notes he has to hit.
:(
That might be my favorite song of all time.
As close as you can get to a perfect record. Outstanding.

My mind left my body several times during this performance. Great musicians.
Pure Magic! their sound is pure magic.
Thom sounds really good in this performance, what a blessing
I would do anything to be able to witness this live.
I want to live in that basement man...

I had no idea how versatile this group is. They are some wonderful musicians. I don't know how I missed them. Glad to have discovered them ... great find for me. This made my very tough few days so much better.
Musicians put so much of themselves into their work. What gifts they bring. Thank you
This isnit just music. it's fucking art!
Technically incredible! So much work and dedication involved to reach this level. What a band.
+Yves Altana Hey Yves :)
what a band
Radiohead and Muse take me to another world with their sounds.
Couldn't have said it better!
Truer words were never written :)
my two favorites.
I predict hate on this comment. Both great bands. Entirely different.
I predict less comments like yours Sawyer. Many different bands have the same type of resonance with different people. Music is formless and beautiful. So are Radiohead and Muse
2018 and still can't believe it's real. It's modified heaven
Their sound is so fucking crispy. Does that make sense to anyone? I could watch them play for weeks.
holy shit crispy is actually exactly how i described their music in my head. hahaha
ive been watching this since 2008 and still cant stop.
Radiohead for life! They rock. Check out this sweet band. They're definetely influenced: meza.bandcamp.com/
fluid-crisp
It makes sense ❤
cohiba send me this text on WhatsApp please +5521973722261
i come back to this video from time to time to watch Myxomatosis. it is spot on!
What a phenomenal performance of absolutely breathtaking music..
Can't believe I'd never seen this until now!! *Thankyou Radiohead* ♥
+Wilburgur Thank you for bringing me here, Will ! Appreciate ya
All I can say is that there's nothing better than Radiohead, there really isn't.
knightarnaud no need to suck their dicks but ok.
i love u will
Radiohead is one of those bands where there is no one without the other. I couldn't imagine them as anyone other then these specific 5 individuals.
Agreed they've been together for over 30 years same line up incredible
Yeah it feels so weird to see only Jonny and Thom in one band
Please listen this with some good quality headphones. It will change your world, I promise.
Javier Rangel you are damn right ! this is the first condition to start listen radiohead.
Great comment!
Show's your great taste in music, as well as your character..
Good
They are the same live. Them boys play.
39:50 only jonny greenwood can play a lemon
yesterday I woke up
Everytime i watch/listen to this its an amazing hour in my life! Supergood!!
hands up for your profile photo Hermano
Omg a tool fan that is a radiohead fan too
My 2 favoutite bands
yeah andother one here..
ill join that club.
Just the right amount of similarity to the studio album for me. Bliss.
This eye looking right to the camera during Nude, gave me shivers.. So beautiful
was really hoping they would cover 50 cents in da club but i guess an hour of howling at the moon is still just as good.
I’m framing this comment
thats the first time a comment gave me goosebumps
nice one !
MrCela01 I’m reporting this commenr
Am I the only one that thinks this sounds better than the actual album? I really like to see them perform this songs.
*who thinks
+Turrican Amiga im a grammar nazi, but karma police caught me. So I had to make a grammar mistake. God knows how much I suffered... Karma Police allowed me to correct it
+Diogo Oliveira No, you're not the only one who thinks that. :-)
I don't think so. Nigel Godrich is on fire on the production of in Rainbows. 15 Steps gives me goosebumps every time due to the amazing texture which is lacking in this version
15 steps is one of my favourite songs from In Rainbows and I agree with you. Nigel is an amazing producer. Anyway, every fan has different opinions
The fact that they didn't play Jigsaw Falling Into Place is a crime
They did it was at 54:50
Nobody has ever been that right.
Mad Hatter HOW COULD YOU TROLL LIKE THAT?!?!?
This album will never get old. I find it to be Radiohead's sweetest and kind-spirited work. Hail To The Thief is their most angry record, while in Rainbows is their most friendly album. It's amazing how they change so abruptly from album to album.
Isaac A AMSP is their most Melancholy Album..
In Rainbows is there most sublime album 😍
In Rainbows is also their most energy zapping album they made. They didn't enjoy making it but damn did it turn out to be my favorite album of theirs.
Micah Buzan you are so right!
yeah
I'm officially a Radiohead fan!
Good
bodysnatchers...that bass line...those rockin guitars...
Videotape is such an eargasm of a song. especially live.
+Yaara C feel the falsetto
Body snatchers by far the most impressive. Just watch how lost everyone gets and are at MAXIMUM jamming going on… it’s truly amazing. You can tell this is one they love to play and destroyed it here for real. Radiohead is on another level entirely.
Ok. this needs to be said.Thomas Edward Yorke is a genius and absolutely most talented person in the world
Lena Raskolnikow is that mac demarco
For real
Only behind Jonny Greenwood
Every tune in its right place
I wish i were one of these guys who were filming, inside the studio... damn, this live session is beyond everything you could expect...
If you watch the entire thing you can understand what seperates Radiohead from other musicians/bands. There's a wide range of sounds, tones and effects here. Their sonic variation and eclecticism is unmatched.
How does the voice fit in it all? No sarcasm intended

Que buenisima foto!
Radiohead is the best band right now. Period. I'll die on that hill gladly.
Estoy en Valparaíso en mi casa , hace frío y el mar esta calmo ,escucho a la mejor banda del mundo!!!
This video makes me feel open and feeds me as a writer. It makes me more open to appreciate and make associations between works in all mediums. That must be a mark of greatness and timelessness.
I feel the same way except I'm a dancer
9:36 "Bodysnatchers" - heard this in high school and loved them - I had no idea these guys - ALL of them - were this talented. Diggin the energy
Same thing happened to me , I was so into muse in high school until my classmate told me about RH and I heard "House of Cards"on a radio program , totally rocked my world.
This is the most impressive live performance of any band online. So moving.
