Gas VS Battery (Hedge Trimmers)

- This past year, the lawn tool game has really stepped up its game. I have always used gas power equipment, although the newer battery equipment is giving gas a run for its money. In this video I compare the Echo HC-150 gas hedge trimmer to the Toro 60V hedge trimmer.
*Correction: I was holding up the echo and said you didn’t have to clean carb, filter etc… I meant you do have to*
✅Pros of gas: powerful, metal parts, long run time (gas refill pending), great cut quality.
✅Pro of battery: lightweight, plug and play, quiet. Great cut quality.
👎🏽Cons of gas: Loud, exhaust smell, mix gas, cleaning carbs/air filters and more maintenance.
👎🏽Cons of battery: limited run time per charge, more plastic, button on top to turn trimmer.
Overall, I really liked the Toro trimmer and would love to purchase one. I also want to try out the other 60V line up from Toro.
🤷🏽♂️ Why Toro? I have been using Toro lawn mowers since I was able to mow the lawn. Their mowers last forever and are very reliable. I have many mowers from them and hopefully will be adding more battery equipment!
🤷🏽♂️ Why Echo? When I did some side jobs landscaping, I read some reviews and went down to Home Depot and bought it. It has worked amazing for me over the past 7-8years I’ve owned it. It has been very reliable.

I've really come to like battery equipment over the last 2-3 years. Especially in hedge trimmers, it's a no brainer for me since they are lighter and easier to deal with.
💯! So much easier to deal with. Thanks for watching!
Great comparison. Really enjoyed this video. Would be nice to continue this as a series.
Thank you! I may actually try to do that! Good idea!
Oh man. That’s where you and I differ. I love coming in smelling like 2 stroke. My wife prefers it over any cologne on the market.
Whatta gal!
I have a ryobi, it was cheap did the job, and surprisingly use little battery.
I also find it easier to just by a new unit whenever the carbs get jammed up. That’s when you know it’s time.
Much cheaper.
You can fi a gas trimmer blade. The plastic housings on battery stuff breaks.
Good comparison. I'll be upset if the entire market goes this way. Just something about that 2 stroke!
Thank you! And yeah, you’re right. I do love running power equipment! These battery jobbers are slight though!
I have an Ego hedge trimmer, I do like it but one thing I prefer on the petrol stuff is the handle placement. I find a lot of the battery stuff stick both handles quite close together which I don't really find comfortable.
That’s actually a good point. One thing is also letting go of the one button and it shuts off (safety button)
@@RootedLawnCo Yes it can be a bit of a pain in certain situations
I do this for a living and I've looked into replacing my current setup with battery equivalents, it's just far too expensive & inconvenient! I use Husqvarna predominantly two Stoke predominantly, the XTorque engines are far quieter and cleaner that previous engines. The Husqvarna 122HD60 I currently use is hard to beat on smaller shrubs and hedges. For the meaty jobs, I use the Husqvarna 522HDR75X!
Battery for the win!
Cut some thicker branches
The ban will apply to new mowers after 2024. I really don’t see it lasting long with all the green industry companies and small business lawn care companies. It will definitely be interesting. I absolutely enjoy my Toro 60V series. Good job on the comparison. 👊😎🌴
Hey thanks so much for watching. It will definitely be interesting to see where things go.
What a joke! How about some real yard work? How long is that battery going to last? Left that battery life out didn't you
What about all these batteries when it's time to dispose of them. What about the millions of acres mineral mining it takes to produce these batteries. Stink like fuel, come on, take a shower..
Come on man.
