My favorite is the one I already have - the Ego. Ego's line of outdoor equipment is really nice. Everything works very well, and it's nice having the one battery platform for so many tools. I also have Milwaukee and DeWalt tools (drills, saws, etc), but for outdoor tools Ego is my brand.
There is one attribute that everyone who has ever used a cordless trimmer knows matters the most. WEIGHT! I have a heavy Ryobi and my arm gets tired REAL quick! It's powerful but it just wears you out in no time! What hedge trimmer would you recommend that is light but still can cut some decent size stems?
As a self-employed gardener, it's great to see hedgecutters get a mention! The Stihl looked the best, as I have a great dealership I go to, so service and repairs are a doddle. It does need another 10cm's on the blade though. I currently use 2 Stihl's and 2 Husqvarna's . The HS-45, & HS -81R, the 122HD60 & 522HDR75X! I find that, an excellent combination! That said, if I was younger, I'd be going the battery route!
I have both Stih (petrol)l and Dewalt (battery) but I know have a back problem, which I don't think is ever going to go away. Have an acre of garden, plus hedges and need a lighter hedge trimmer. So I think the dewalt is the best option for me. Thanks for the video, good advice
Personally I'm a big fan of Ego and their line up of tools. Especially their multi tool. One brand I think is worth looking into is Kress. They're a more recent entry into the lawn tool market but they already have a wide range of stuff. Their professional rated tools are very impressive and their battery tech is downright insane. Even their consumer lineup is surprisingly high quality. Anyways, as always enjoyed the video and looking forward to what else you all have in store.
I am last minute shopping for a new hedge trimmer as the moving company decided to keep my old one. I love the details you provided and am swaying to the Milwaukee as I already own several spot lights and batteries. And I own a Stihl weedeater that has proven to be heavy and stops frequently. Local dealer recommends the ECHO. So, my deciding criteria is which one will cut the largest branches???? It will be too late for me but you might consider doing a video on which machine does what kind of work. GREAT video. I am off to dealership to see price ranges here in America South. THANKS!
I was given a battery hedge trimmer, it has the internal battery. I feel these are a bad idea for a tool that is used a few times a year. The ones you have demonstrated are much much better, detachable batteries are a winner. Easy choice for me, Milwaukee. It’s the battery platform I use for most of my tools.
Dewalt for me as I have all dewalt tools I did hire a stil one time and found it brilliant I’m looking forward to the long reach video as I’m needing a new one great videos keep up the good work
Makita probably didn't show up for the contest because there wasn't one for them. Their batteries will rock for hours, and the brushless versions are beasts
I’ve been very happy with the Ego HT6500E … had it since 2020 and it has done an enormous amount of work … cuts up to 33mm no problem at all with a 650mm cutting blade. Ego seems to have their battery charging and cooling system sorted with the batteries lasting a long time. They have a good monitoring system in place so you don’t get too worried about a thermal runaway … unlike another brand that starts with “S” that I know a contractor lost $30k worth of gear and he also ended up with poisoning from the thermal runaway fumes and will never work again. Downsides would be it’s a touch weight, but the battery backpack helps on big jobs - good balance with battery or backpack. Yep, I will never go back to breathing in the toxic exhaust fumes.
@@cesarcoronaii7456 most do have some level of monitoring, however I have found that EGO has a far superior system, but most importantly they have a superior cooling system and they really force the air through when charging which substantially increases battery life … most of the others are what I would call a traditional “tool battery”, whereby they are seal off and require inefficient convection cooling through the plastic case. The only issue I have with the superior cooling of the EGO battery is that it’s easier for moisture to get into the battery, therefore you can get corrosion on the circuit board or connections which will cause a fault. You just have to be careful of rain.
If you do get around to making a commercial-grade hedge cutter comparison video, make sure you try to include the new ECHO DHC-2200r (or longer bladed DHC-2800r) machine. It’s not cheap, but I was well-impressed with its quality and performance.
Just wondering why you didn’t test a Makita? I have used the single battery version for 5 years and paid £30.00 for body only. Great machine for domestic use.
Whilst its not a standard size hedge trimmer its a pole one, I have a makita 18v brushless one and it’s fantastic and well worth the look even if their other landscaping tools may not be to good
Makita is the obvious choice due to the huge range of power tools available from the brand. Makita battery chainsaws operate on the same battery platform as their cordless workshop tools.
This is v useful thank you. I have an allotment and so far the site manager has done the hedges but he no longer does it so I either need to hire someone or get a hedge trimmer. Ive been a bit scared about them and would need a light one as a woman of average height. Which one is the best balance between light yet effective?
I know you compare them with a maximum budget in mind, but needless to say: with voltages ranging from 18V to 56V the performance is not directly comparable. Voltage makes quite a difference in how 'easy' these trimmers do their work.
Hello, great video I am looking to purchase my first battery hedge trimmer which one would you recommend for both domestic and commercial that offers flexibility with the battery range (one battery multiple tools) I am stuck between Milwaukee,Dewalt, And STIHL
Could you add information about cutting speeds please? It's great knowing the width of cut but also speed is equally important for clean cuts. Battery run times aren't that important as all of these will need additional batteries.
How is it equally as important for clean cuts? 🤔 Genuine curiosity - never heard that and can't fathom a logical reason 🤷♂ In fact, id say slower reciprocation is better for the majority of hedge trimming.
Ego for me. A great company to deal with. Wouldn't it be great if they could make battery hedge cutters with extension pole attachments? Then you would have the best of both worlds. Dragons Den calling?
Was excited about this video until you put a cap of £300, would like to see a comparison video of the top professional battery hedge cutters. think you'll find it hard to beat the new Stihl HSA 130 R.
Well, I bought a Ryobi One+ hedge trimmer and I'm quite disappointed. Used a petrol one before and oh boy it had so much more power. Also, the 2.4Ah battery ran out of juice after about 20min. The 5Ah one was almost full after another 20min of use, so that's on a plus side. But I don't think any of these products can compete with the power of petrol tools!
what these people dont talk about is battery adapters that you can run a makita battery on a dewalt tool for example sticking to one brand for batteries shouldnt be a thing anymore as long as the voltages are the same
I'm in the market for a long pole battery angled hedge trimmer. Any recommendations before you do your promised review on them pl? Love your presentaions btw.
Makita is definitely the best I use one commercially and it gets thrashed and I mean thrashed beech thorn you name it it goes through it three speed and blows the socks of my Stihl petrol trimmer
I use hedge trimmers commercially and use makita ive tried all the rest and they just dont match makita sorry but makita are definitely the best for me
The sad thing with the Dewalt DCM563 is that it doesn't let you sharpen the knives in a simple way. Dewalt Service does not accept doing it, and the shops that they refers to for sharpen the knives, will not do the dismantling to get the blade of. It's rather sad that maintenance is not part of the design. Really a low mark since I have so many Dewalt products. I will give my DCM563 a score of 3/5 based on this this weakness in design.
Do an 8 hour hedge with electric and then tell me the $1500 in batteries you had to purchase. Great tech but it’s for home users or large landscapers at this point.
No offence but don't really see the point in allowing the viewers to decide which one is the best when they have only tried the one they have. After sitting through this video until the end only to find out there's no clear winner surely you should put us all out of our misery and tell us which one you thought was the best? Very much doubt you'll reply to this so I'm just going to go and buy the DeWalt 😂
We try to reply to all messages. We try not to give a clear winner. We try to keep viewers and the manufacturers happy. There are so many variants on which one would “win” as here it really depends what your circumstances are and range you require. If you already have Dewalt batteries, for you it would make sense to buy the Dewalt.
My favourite.
STIHL HSA 86 Cordless Hedge 24” with a AP500S battery absolutely brilliant great runtime with this setup.

People with bad shoulders can't hold these
I have both Stih (petrol)l and Dewalt (battery) but I know have a back problem, which I don't think is ever going to go away. Have an acre of garden, plus hedges and need a lighter hedge trimmer. So I think the dewalt is the best option for me. Thanks for the video, good advice
my choice would be the Greenworks the cheapest and i have seen one in action and it cut really well 👌👌
Best hedge cutter by far was the one wearing the orange shorts followed closely by the stihl ha ha I love a good trim. Cheers Kev 🍻.
Personally I'm a big fan of Ego and their line up of tools. Especially their multi tool. One brand I think is worth looking into is Kress. Thank you for sharing dude, I’ve been trying to get Kress on board for a while, hopefully they will see the light soon haha.
Greenworks is my choice because I already have a mower, trimmer, and blower and are pleased.
I am last minute shopping for a new hedge trimmer as the moving company decided to keep my old one. Another one for Ego I got from yourselves a while ago and it is still a great machine. 👍
Thanks Al! Yeah the battery system you use has a big deciding factor on which one you would go for.
Dewalt for me as I have all dewalt tools I did hire a stil one time and found it brilliant I’m looking forward to the long reach video as I’m needing a new one great videos keep up the good work
My favourite is the Makita! Vast battery platform for wide range of power tools.
They were invited into this test, but unfortunately didn’t provide an option for this.
Makita probably didn't show up for the contest because there wasn't one for them. Their batteries will rock for hours, and the brushless versions are beasts
Gotta love the Stihl! Thx for the video

Yep, I will never go back to breathing in the toxic exhaust fumes.
Any other brands have heat monitoring?first time I have heard of this thermal runaway? So battery emits this after running hot?
@@cesarcoronaii7456 most do have some level of monitoring, however I have found that EGO has a far superior system, but most importantly they have a superior cooling system and they really force the air through when charging which substantially increases battery life … most of the others are what I would call a traditional “tool battery”, whereby they are seal off and require inefficient convection cooling through the plastic case.

Love my ego kit just waiting for you to get the presher washer and I'd like to see you on the bike 😊
Can not wait for the pressure washer! I doubt we will get the bike in the U.K. but fingers crossed 🤞🏼

Brilliant review, very helpful
Thank you 🙌🏻
I like them all but the orange and white one is Stihl my favourite 👍
interesting. Would be good to see how the kress and husqvarna commercial trimmers are.
Just wondering why you didn’t test a Makita? I have used the single battery version for 5 years and paid £30.00 for body only. Great machine for domestic use.
They were invited but unfortunately didn’t get one for this test.
ego's multitool system is fantastic, it has plenty of power, you definitely get what you pay for.....
Great review, I love these sort of comparisons. I’d take the Husqvarna for the comb and the shared battery system
Awesome thank you 🤩
Nice One James Got to be Stihl Thanks again
Whilst its not a standard size hedge trimmer its a pole one, I have a makita 18v brushless one and it’s fantastic and well worth the look even if their other landscaping tools may not be to good
Ego is the best
Already got the strimmer
I like Husqvarna battery Equipment. It is designed very well. But I would go with at least one number bigger.
We need a commerical line up il be changing my gear next year
Which one is the lightest?
I notice you didnt include Ryobi in your comparison. Can I ask why ?
Yeah, I thought that too
I got a cheap Chinese Netta one for 70 quid off Amazon I will be testing it to destruction So far it's surprisingly good.
Lwe have milwaukee battery hedge trimmer and find it great, great channel 👍
Thanks mate 👍🏼😎
I’m on the lookout for a new petrol model 😊
forgot the makita ... love my duh75130in blade !!
My favorite was the husqvarna
Great review ! ❤ many thanks , I think I may of decided 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Favourite hedge trimmer - husqvarna
Thanks Benedict 👍🏼
Ego for me seems to be the best
Cool review but some of our models are different here in the states, but I’m giving the EGO a test this week. 🍻
Surprised not to see Makita in the line up, since so many already have the batteries.
Makita is the obvious choice due to the huge range of power tools available from the brand. Makita battery chainsaws operate on the same battery platform as their cordless workshop tools.
I sure like my Dewalt. Light and powerful and because I'm already on their platform. 😊
This is v useful thank you. I have an allotment and so far the site manager has done the hedges but he no longer does it so I either need to hire someone or get a hedge trimmer. What to choose for a Hawthorne hedge? 🤔
I know you compare them with a maximum budget in mind, but needless to say: with voltages ranging from 18V to 56V the performance is not directly comparable. Voltage makes quite a difference in how 'easy' these trimmers do their work.

Interesting comparison. I'm not sure if the same product lines are available here in the United States. Goodguys lawn's always look nice 👍🏻
Thank you, yeah you guys would have a few of them not several machines we don’t see either.
Thanks is there any reason you didn't consider a Bosch?
They are crap at communication 😂
I reckon your demographic would be much more interested in the higher end/pro battery stuffs tbh, I would! 🤙
It’s the Greenworks!
i just taken hedge cutter traing. petrol only . no batterys on test . petrols here for while longer .

Whats louder the dewalt or husqvarna hedger@@MachineryNation
I love the alco hope to purchase one soon 😂
How about more companies in the THE US LIKE AT HOME DEPOT AND LOWES. . . .and please include battery replacement prices.
Ego for me. A great company to deal with. Wouldn't it be great if they could make battery hedge cutters with extension pole attachments? Then you would have the best of both worlds. Dragons Den calling?
They do.....
Will the Dewalt DCM563PB work with Stanley Farmax 4A batteries ? Someone mentioned that battery is compatible
Can someone please suggest
Does anyone still use petrol for hedge cutting anymore?
I couldn’t think of a reason why someone would use a petrol hedge trimmer now!
Was excited about this video until you put a cap of £300, would like to see a comparison video of the top professional battery hedge cutters. think you'll find it hard to beat the new Stihl HSA 130 R.
Haha, thanks Gary. Yes we will be putting commercial hedge trimmers to the test in another video 👍🏼
Hikoki 36V would eat all of them but you neglected to include
Nice review 👍 battery all day for hedge trimming 👌
Pellenc has the best hedge trimmer by far but also the most expensive
It's a shame the Stiga HT 500e wasn't in this test. It's a 48v system and offers more than Stihl at the same price.
Dewallt is good one

Love the channel
I think electric OPE is going to replace petrol faster than we think. I’m ok with that though, just not with my trucks, cars, and motorcycles! Lol
Completely agree 👍🏼
Black Decker
I love shthil or ego
Ego for me with Dewalt as a second!
Ideal, thank you 👍🏼
Missed the Makita in here tbh
They were invited but unfortunately didn’t make it to this test.
I was going to get my Mrs the Dewalt for Christmas as she could borrow my batterys but she didn't want one Misserable
Sounds like the perfect present 🤩
Running XGT for our landscaping. Had some ego (including the hedge trimmer) and I’m not impressed.
England has the best green lawns and bushes.
It is very green this year with the amount of rain we have had 😎
Ego is my choice
And makita?
Skipped Ryobi.
Parkside is wot I got
EGO 26" with carbon fiber rail.
Where is makita?
What no Mitox , i'm gutted lol. The ego And that because a bloke in a house near me uses ego without any problems.
The ones that run 45min and take an hour to charge if two batteries that leaves 15min every hour for a pint break. 😂
No makita
