    Had an Everest on order, wanted a Wildtrak, but settled on an XLT. Devo on the wireless charge pad, but found one that will fit in the space perfectly. Leather does get hot, even with (il)legal dark tint, so looking forward to not having to worry about it. Was a bit surprised about the lack of space where the muffler is, but should be enough room for me to do a decent exhaust........

    Spray in tub liner is $400 not $900. The trailer brake controller is part of the the $900 touring pack not part of a tow pack as tow bar is standard on XLT. Also a suspension lift will increase clearance under the belly just won't increase your rear diff height.

    A couple of glaring inaccuracies, in your story - The Salisbury (Dana) style rear housing is a carry over from Amarok, which used that style but with 5 stud wheels. Because the shock absorbers have been moved out-board of the springs, but retain the same stroke, effectively means the wheel travel has been reduced. In serious off-road terrain you would not be using the 4A mode with the electronic clutch pack, you should use 4H or 4L with transfer locked. Would have liked to see if the car ran away in reverse after you failed on the hill climb. In otherwords, how low is the gearing for reverse and low range gearing? What sort of fuel consumption did you see for this short drive? Disappointed that nearly 3/4 of the vid was devoted to going over the same Ranger appointments and not more about driving it off-road.

    Best review I have seen. Well done. Only complaint is I do not go off road. I am after towing information. Whats the payload? Do i need to upgrade the suspension if I put 320kgs on the towball? Can I turn off all the driver assist electronics that I do not want, Like crash assist, driver seat belt warnings, driver door is open alarms etc. I will use this around the farm and if I get out to fix a fence or a water trough or help a ewe lamb I want to hear the radio and not a lot of beeping. I do not want to have a seat belt on if I am getting out all the time to do something and I am driving just over 20kms per hour.

    So I just picked up a new Ranger Wildtrak V6. I wan to know why none of the reviews I have seen never discussed the fatigue management systems in the Ranger along with the problematic lane centering system. The fatigue management system or a serious distraction and I believe a hazard. I got told to have a break less than 5 minutes after having done so. The Lane keeping is another big issues that I have never seen comment on. Driving the pot hole riddled Bruce Highway I turned off the Lane keep crap because I was constantly dogging pot holes. The stupid bloody system was turning its self back on while driving and of course because I was dogging pot holes the car said to have a break again. I want to know why you reviewers have never mentioned this?

    Drove the V6 sport at the weekend, very nice, standing start was laggy, though mid-range acceleration was fantastic.
    Can't decide between XLT or Sport, not really a fan of leather seats,but the sport gets driver terrain modes.
    BUT.... Reliability is my biggest hurdle,before biting the bullet and dropping a deposit.

      I drove the V6 XLT and wildtrack last week and had a demo for the day this week. Very Impressed and dropped my money on the XLT but I do have the same reservations as yourself. I think It comes down to the dealer support. My local dealer is excellent in aftersales and if I do have any problems I know they will look after me. That seems to be the most important thing these days. I drove the Raptor too -WOW, but mine has to work for a living so not an option.

    I saw the inside of this engine and I don't like that the cams are belt driven and not chain driven . This brings me back to the technology of the old 2.3 rubber band motors that needed the timing belt changed at 60 k . The belts are on the back of the engine which means the engine has to be removed from the vehicle in order to replace. Better to put a coyote 5.0 gas engine in it and save the headache.

    I have a rotary shifter. Best shifter I’ve ever had. Never want to go back to a non-rotary one.
    Hate the +/- on the shifter also - should be paddle shifters - don’t need to take hands off the wheel or eyes off the track to manually control the gearbox.
    My 4WD shifts to Park when you press the Engine Start/Stop button to shut it down.

    How did you manage to get bridgestone tyres? Goodyear wrangler AT was the only ones i was offered

    • @Drivecomau
      @Drivecomau  Рік тому

      This was listed by Ford as an optional wheel and tyre package, but I'm not sure of the Bridgestones are the only option in this regard. Sometimes, OEMs will have a variety of tyres in their lineup, and what you get will be a bit of luck of the draw. For what it's worth, these tyres seemed to be pretty good - Sam

  • @tempestv8
    @tempestv8 Рік тому +2

    Interested to know more about the center differential - it's not a locking differential, but relies on some kind of clutch system. Therefore does this mean that it's only 4x4 when the computer decides or can you select an option which engages the center diff as if as it were hard locked?

    • @Drivecomau
      @Drivecomau  Рік тому +3

      It's a system designed by Borg Warner, called Torque On Demand (TOD). This is effectively the next-generation system in this new Ranger, and is used in Everest and Raptor as well. This is a more sophisticated system, and as far as I can tell it can offer a true 50/50 'lock-up' for four-wheel driving, which cannot be used on the blacktop. This would be effectively the same as a locking mechanical centre differential, as well as a part-time 4X4 system with a dog clutch setup in 4H and 4L modes.- Sam

    • @jrckelley
      @jrckelley Рік тому

      @@Drivecomau I too am curious as to how its splits torque in 4A mode. If it is a clutch arrangement it is either on of off unless its slipping some how. I would like to see an explanation on how it operates in 4x4 mode on the a sealed surface in 4A. A center Diff would be required to accommodate the different axle speeds front to back - i don't think a clutch can easily accommodate this task and you don't want it to be a component that wears.

    An extra $900 for the touring pack, $900 for the tub liner, $500 for the off road tyres.. Works out the same price as the sport. Great car but when you break it down the sport or wildtrak are better options imo.. Great video guys✌🏼

    Thanks for the great review. Just put my money on the XLT V6. Ford AUS was right about that stupid dial gear changer. It would have been a deal breaker for me. We have a Focus and it's a great car but that dial is a proper pain in the arse. I lived with the demo Wildtrack for a day and I have to say it's an impressive package. The wildtrack a bit too much for a work ute though. Particularly the leather seats and the tub. Although I would have liked the extra cup holders Ford! Only time will tell if the reliability stacks up I guess. I can't wait for someone to do a comprehensive video on that screen and tech there's a lot to know{hint hint}
