“Were looking for value for money, so we’ll ignore the GWM that’s five star safety, full of tech, cheaply priced, with a seven year unlimited warrantee and five year roadside assist, and instead wank ourselves over the Hilux and Ranger that are priced nearly twice as much as it, like every other road test does”.
We chose the GWM. We believe what other road tests have said; if you actually drive the GWM Cannon, you start to consider whether it’s not that the Cannon is “priced too cheap”, but whether all the others are “priced way too high for what they are.”

Had my heart set on the Wikdtrak, until I drove it. Technology was amazing but I had also driven the Musso, GWM, Triton and LDV. The Ford was good but not $25,000 better, plus their history of transmission and diff issues I just couldn't go through with it. Bought the Lux Musso added an electric roller, sports bar, upgraded suspension, side steps, tow bar, brake controller, anderson plug in tub and pocketed the extra $25,000. After reading reviews on the GWM I decided to check one out, curiously the local dealer is also a LDV agent as well.
The LDV is truly a basic dual cab and I wouldn't even contemplate owning one, park bench seats, ugly plastics throughout the interior, it's just as basic dual cabs used to be.
Now for a breath of fresh air, the GWM is like no other dual cab.
The interior is a glorious place to be, it's up there with a saloon interior, way ahead of any rival. It is currently let down by a lack of power compared to its rivals, but not too long ago everyone was happy with those outputs and it would be very acceptable to people wanting that interior, if I were in the market for a dual cab it would be at the top of the list, closely followed by the Musso, why. They both feature the most comfortable easy on the eye interior, no gordy stuff and that ridiculous screen in the ford, no thankyou.
It could be capable but can't live with that interior and that's were you spend your time, no matter how you utilise the vehicle.

I got twenty seconds into this review and knew what the result was going to be. I’m actually not entirely sure what there was to test here, the Ranger has been the best ute since the release of the PX3. I guess there is some validity to it to find second to last. The new Ranger has raised the bar, it is easily the best ute in the segment. It’s was nice however to finally see a realistic review of the Toyota. It is absolute rubbish, and it never ceased to amaze me that they (Toyota) actually manage to sell them at all. And that extends to all of the 2.8 derivative engined rubbish that Toyota pedal.

Crappy and overrated are definitely not descriptive of the mighty Hilux. I don't like them either but for reasons more related to their owners. Fair review guys👍 Toyota are really falling behind and need to pick up their game. I’m a owner of the current DMAX. Done 44,000km from new.
I find the DMAX transmission sluggish and searches for gears with cruise control active.
It’s a good Ute but not great. lots of quirky things in the tech.Nothing some lines of code couldn’t fix. My V6 Ranger should be ready for pickup in a month. Hopefully Ford have sorted the long list of annoyances that I have with my DMax. 🤞

Next model will come out with rear side step, portrait style infotainment system & a V6 engine…….sound familiar?
If this model came out with at least rear wheel disc brakes & a powerful V6 or better engine I would have bought that.
Colorado had a 500Nm engine back in 2013….Toyota upgraded in the last couple of years.
100 extra Nm when towing a 2.5T caravan is very handy. I don’t do hardcore off-roading.

Anyway, I was talking with our local Ford service manager and he said there are lots of issues with the new one. I think I would steer clear for a year or 2 till they sort them out.
Main issues I've heard of are software related but there is also driveshaft coupling issues and the 3.0 litre V6 is prone to blown engines. I know of 6 in my area!!!! This was an issue when they were used in Range Rover's as well. I know a chap who's Range Rover snapped the crankshaft at 63 K. Same engine now in the Ranger. I'm only half-way through, watching the rear occupancy part of the review. After watching the front interior section and now through the rear occupancy, from what I can glean so far in the overall review is that the Cannon is by far the most spacious and comfortable interior. It seems that GWM needs to learn that if they add SatNav and DAB radio (I guess people still listen to radio), they could charge $30,000 more for their vehicle. I hope they don't watch this video, they might get ideas on ripping us off like the others... I've also learned from this review that if any manufacturer puts a screen in the portrait position, no matter how bad it is, they will win as long as they are one of the most commonly known manufacturers of course.

This is a relatively flawed review, considering the 4WD capability section wasnt tested anywhere near hard enough. If youre buying one of these utes, you would expect pretty decent 4WD capabilities, yet this is where the DMax/BT50 and the two cheapies fall down. Youd be much better off with the Ranger, Hilux, Navara or Triton. The powertrain on the Navara is below par, so that drops it off this list. Basically, you're left with three. You can choose budget and spend more on extras (Triton), midrange value with Hikux, or high-end features and capability with Ranger. Honestly, i think youd be pretty happy with any of those three (unoess youre towing, in which case probably scrub the Triton).
