- In order to find success, I had to make my way through a series of failures. It was really the failure that built who I am and brought me into medical coding and all the happiness I've had in my career.
In what ways have you failed only to be led down a much better path?

I am 40. Yesterday was my first day of class. Thank you! I needed this!
Super inspiring!! Thank you 😊❤
You're welcome, Amy. ☺
Thanks for the pep talk
Good video in providing hope for those who have experienced setbacks in their life that they can be successful.
Hi Victoria. Thank you so much for sharing this very personal story. I can identify with several aspects of this video and I really appreciate the information you shared. ✨✨✨
You are so welcome!
When i listened to u i felt like u were describing my story of my life even though our upbringing and roots are different. i don't like to study and i like to watch anime only just like u
I love this. I just failed out of my 4th semester of nursing school, and have decided that I’m just not meant to be a nurse. I have been trying to decided what I want to do with my life now and your intro to medical coding videos seem so amazing. I loved my call center job and love working on computers but also love medical writing so I think this might be the best career for me. My college offers medical coding so I won’t lose too many credit hours ❤️❤️
Yeah! That sounds like medical coding might be right up your alley!! 🥰
I wish I will passed my medical coding. so I will be successful like you...
I would have never guessed you had been through so much failure!! Thank you for the inspiration and encouragement. I've been through some major failures too.
Victoria, one question, could you be more specific about WHAT EXACTLY you like/love so much about Medical Coding? I like it a lot and I think I will be good at it, I was just wondering what specifically you like about the job. Thanks.
Thanks for your amazing channel. I'm planning of getting into Medical coding field. I'm a graduate physician working in the Insurance sector and I would love it if you could help me with a plan where to start.
So inspirational! At times I feel like a failure, but watching this gives me confidence and hope.
I laughed out loud at the anime comment 😂 that was me in high school!
It’s hard because I’m unemployed right now and it’s emotionally hard on me.
I’m glad I’m taking this time to learn Medical Coding and move on from here; I probably wouldn’t have taken the leap into this if I didn’t lose my job so it’s weird how this has worked out and I’m loving this field!
Sometimes bad things just play out for the best!! :)
I graduated College with a Political Science Degree. I wanted to go to law school but didn’t.
Worked in retail and real estate. Next, I took government job as a “coder trainee “ with the VA. Twenty Eight years later, I am still coding.
Like Victoria said take every opportunity given to you!
Love that! Hope you're doing well, Michael!
My favorite video so far. I guess I think I'm too old to be failing and I'm not relying on my parents but my daughter! UGG but sincerely, Victoria - thank you for this candid and encouraging video. You're awesome at a LOT more than coding!
Awesome! You are awesome!
I appreciate this video 110%!! I failed at my last attempt of a degree and it scared me to try again. But I had to finish a degree and prove to myself and my family that you can make it if you keep pushing, learning and trying! Great advice!
that was me 8n high school, then I quit and got my ged. I have worked as a nursing assistant for about 25 years and had to leave because I have lung cancer and other ailments that have rendered me disabled. I did take a medical billing and doing program in 2008, I never got my certificate of co.pletion, so i am looking to take another course to get certified. my goal would be to work from home as that would be the best decision for me. I'm feeling a bit hopless qs far as working from. home because of the difficulty of it. do you have have any suggestions or advice.
i really can't say how much i needed this. Just thank you.
Wow! You!
Thank you so much for this! I appreciate you and it means a lot to me!
I am going to start a program for medical billing and coding and I am so excited. I had to drop out of college due to my bipolar disorder. But I think this time I will be successful. Thanks for all your videos they are so motivational!
I wish you all the best!! It's such a great field to get into!!
Great inspiration!!
Thanks so much!
GREAT INSPIRATION 👍 👌 👍 THANKS SOOOOOOO MUCH
Wow, i’m not even going into medical billing and coding and this was absolutely amazing encouragement.
Aw, well thank you for leaving such a nice comment!
at what age did you get your first certification?
25
Thank you for your adviced
You are so welcome
thank you so much for sharing your story!! I am so inspired, i cannot wait to begin my medical coding journey at age 27 :) Thank you
Thanks for sharing your story! Sometimes we just have to stumble our way into our career. It's okay to fail, we just have to keep getting up!
So true!
This special episode of contempo coding is brought to you by the word DESTINY.
Love it!
BTW what is your top 3 favorite anime?
Oh my gosh, well I haven't gotten to watch anything new in a long, long time aside from catching Sailor Moon Crystal with my daughter. I used to be super into Hana Yori Dango, and even watched the first live action adaption that came out in Taiwain with Vanness Wu, who I still have a huge crush on. One Piece is probably up there. And Totoro.
Thanks for this video! I have heard many times, that the road to success is filled with "failure". Even knowing this and believing it, it's still hard to fail at something . Thanks for reminding me of this. Thanks also on your tips for taking the CPC exam.
Wow, you're story almost mirrors my own. Im going to start schooling for medical coding in the new year and I really hope this is the career for me. 3 years of being a clerical / admin assistant is enough for me
Awesome!! Lots of luck and I bet you'll love it!
I love this! I love how honest and open you are. Moms always end up knowing best right? 😂 I still call my mom sometimes and say “omg I get it now! I am you!” Hhahaha. Sometimes we just have to find out for ourselves. Can you remind me of this in 15 years when I feel frustrated about my kiddo?
I definitely hear my mom's voice come straight out of my own mouth from time to time!
What kind of computer do you need for coding and billing, PC, MAc, etc. what do you recommend for school and for work, laptop, desktop, support for multiple screens, etc.
A basic computer is fine, even a chromebook. Most employers will provide equipment on-site. Remote positions may provide a secure laptop. It depends on the company. And most require dual monitors.
Thank you soooo much for this video. I suffered some of the same issues you have. I love the way you turned around the situation and I plan to look at failure differently. This video really enlightened me.
Thank you for sharing your story! Your story is very similar to mine. I dropped out of college three times before I started the medical coding course at my local college. I love the challenge of it and I'm learning so many interesting things. Fingers crossed that I will pass my CPC exam soon. 🤞
Wow! Love your story. I recently found your page through Instagram. I’m in my final 4 medical coding classes through my local community college. I have my associates in General Business and worked as a Medical Receptionist for 8 years. I had some internal growth through the years, but I NEED more. I need more growth and more opportunities and that’s why I decided to pursue medical coding. I really enjoy it so far. I’m up every morning at 5 AM to get some coding work in before my kids wake up and I’m back at it in the evenings. My professor says the only way to be good at coding is to code, so we code a lot 😆.
Look forward to learning more from you!
Practice makes perfect!!
Thank you for all your Yourtube. At this time I'm looking for a remote position, as a coder. Do you have any lead I could use . Thank you
You are my inspiration. I finished my medical billing and coding course and feel so lost as if I never learned anything and here I am worried I am going to Fail my CPC exam. Thank you for doing what you do.
Aw, thank you! Take lots of practice exams! I have a video upload at 11:00am EST tomorrow where I interview two people that recently took the exam and you may find it helpful.
Hi Victoria,
I watch your videos and recently made the decision to go back to school to become a medical coder. Right now, i'm taking classes at my old community college to get a certificate of achievement in medical coding and billing, can that count towards the certification before getting my credentials or does it have to be a specific school? I'm in Los Angeles, CA.
I love this video, thank you for sharing this. I wish I was "in love" with MBC. I have been in school for 2 months and I am so meh about it. My teacher is like you, excited and passionate about it while I sit there counting down the time for class to be over. I don't see myself quitting but the idea crossed my mind.
Thank you so much for sharing your inspirational story!!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this! I feel really defeated rn so this is special. You're appreciated. So glad you overcame all these obstacles.
You are so welcome!
Thank you for being an amazing instructor; for taking the time to clearly explain concepts that sometimes seem overwhelming to grasp for people that are in the same position as you were, switching career paths. Extremely grateful that I found your channel! AAPC student
Quit similar story to me
Well said, absolutely beautiful
Thank you! 💓
Thank you sharing your story, it was very encouraging to me.
You are so welcome!
Great job! I appreciate ypu sharing. I am almost 40 and having to start a new career. Coding is what I have chosen as I truly believe this is going to be my niche
That is awesome! Best of luck to you!
I feel u... I was training for coding and had to go drop out of school . I am knowing at 50's door.😶😑
*Knocking
So happy to listen to your " start here playlist " , you are so sweet, this video is 11 and i just feel i could listen to 1000 more , i want to ask you about some points you mentioned in previous videos and i dont know how to contact you by email , would you please reply with an contact email, thank very much ❤
As you can imagine, I receive a lot of requests for individual advice and assistance, but I'm afraid I don't have the time to offer that right now. I'm currently working full-time on my UA-cam channel and other projects, and I don't have the bandwidth to take on any additional commitments.
I know this may be disappointing, but I hope you understand. I appreciate your continued support, and I hope you continue to enjoy my videos!
Thank you. I always enjoy your stories. So true with everything you said. We live and learn.
Aw, thank you Dee for leaving such a lovely comment!
Contempo Coding your welcome.
You had a great mother~!
I think so too!
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!! SO INSPIRATIONAL!!!!!
Which type of specialised topics were given to beginners of medical coding like endocrinology, cardiology.....
Please any one reply
Common might be E&M or general surgery.
Truly an inspiration
Thank you, Norma!! 😃
I needed this today
Crystal I'm glad it had a positive impact on you in some way. 😀
👍😊 I get it, I felt your words
I'm glad!
Hi Victoria, new subscriber here. Thank you for the video. It is very encouraging. To know someone as responsible, intelligent and personable can get fired is a comfort to me, simply because I have always been a VERY responsible employee and person and I have also been fired twice. Seems to me employers are a bit harsh on people these days in my opinion. I am taking a coding class and am really hoping this will be a LONG TERM career. I would really like to be able to have the same job for a long period of time. I like it so far. Thanks for the video.
