    I'm 60 years old and still a massive fan of the unique and beautiful marc bolan.he was my hero in the 70's he got me through secondsry school and evenings doing my homework.it was always his LP's I took to parties and I dressed as much like him as I could- sparkly eye shadow, satin, platform shoes, silver stars glued to my face, glitter in my hair.even now his glam influence is evident in my every day life - in my home and the way I dress.i never let a few days go by without having a sing and dance to his music. The only person that came near him was another hero of mine- the one and only Prince.I think both of these beautiful men led the way for others. I'm always sad when I remember that Marc left us way too early, likewise with Prince.I just hope they are mates somewhere , jamming and having a blast.

      You’re not delusional! You’re absolutely right. I think Marc Bolan is seriously underrated and I can’t understand why he didn’t catch on here in the States. Luckily, I discovered his Unicorn album while I was flipping through albums in a department store when I was 14. It’s the only time in my life I ever bought an album without hearing any of the music first, but I was just transfixed by his face. Within a minute of listening to it, I knew I had found my favorite singer, and he quickly became my favorite guitar player, songwriter, and poet. And he always will be. My friends all loved him when I introduced his music to them, too. I’m so glad I was born when I was because I got to meet him once in person, very briefly. He was so polite, and he had the most gorgeous eyes that seemed like light was coming out of them. I couldn’t look away. KALMIYH 💕💕

    Marc Bolan was the perfect example of a shooting star. he came along and made a hell of a sensation and then was gone suddenly. but while he was here he pushed the limits of the boundaries of Rock and Roll music.
    he knew he was going to be famous and he knew he was going to die.

    • @scott.moresh7
      @scott.moresh7 2 роки тому +1

      He didn't have to die so young tho'...it almost becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy when these rock stars kill themselves early with drugs, alcohol, or reckless living. In Marc's case, dying in a car accident when his band partner and girlfriend/partner got into a car accident where she was drunk presumably and I gather neither was wearing seat belts and they smashes onto a pole and fence. I am not throwing stones but it is such a waste of talent at such a young age. And preventable...

    So photogenic: a really good guitarist to boot, as this track demonstrates, with rich melodic tones. Marc was ahead & on top of his game, setting the trend without being ‘too pop driven’ in his earlier works. He associated a visual connection with Mickey Finn WELL BEFORE David Bowie did with Ronson. (whom I have also great respect for). However, Marc gently led where others followed.
    I was 14 yrs old & adored him. Looking & listening now (aged 69) I’m still convinced I’d backed a winner.
    RIP, trailblazer,

    Schön, das die Gruppe T.Rex nicht vergessen ist. Habe damals immer mein Taschengeld für die neuen Scheiben ausgegeben und hüte sie wie einen Schatz. T.Rex für immer.

      You have to be able to understand "camp". It's not about being gay, either. Things like: The Rocky Horror Picture Show or Disco Tex and the Sex-O-Lettes go great with T.Rex. It's rock and roll, infused with bounce and whimsy. It is very hard to explain but you are 100% on the money. You either get it or you don't.

    I saw Tyranasaurus Rex at Sheffield City Halll back in 1968/9 (?). We were all very stoned at that concert. This was when they were an acoustic duo, with Marc Bolan on guitar and Steve Took on bongos. They sat crossed legs on the stage and blew us all away. They were brilliant.

    Love T Rex!!! I met the band in Kansas City Missouri USA. I was wearing a yellow and blue satin jacket, purchased on Kings Road. Lining of jacket with printed faces of Mark. One of the band members had it off of me and requested to take it back to England where he said the company manufacturing the jackets hadn’t paid them. I foolishly gave away my beautiful jacket, to what I hope was a good cause!!!😂😂😂😂😂

    I was born in December 1957 so was a teenaer when T-Rex, David Bowie, Sweet, Glitter Band, etc, became big and Glam Rock took off. Leading up to those times I clearly recall pop music of say 1970 to 1973 I thought was dull dull dull!!!! All that Led Zeppelin and progressive rock, never captured my imagination at all. When Glam Rock came on the scene at last we had music that was catchy lyrically. I remember the first time (dear I say) when at about 14 years of age we were in the school hall because of the bad weather outside at lunchtime and I heard Rock 'n' Roll part 2 by the Glitter Band. My ears pricked up and I thought the new pop music was fantastic, at last 'pop' music. My preference in the early to mid 1970's was Showaddywaddy and I had a big crush on Suzie Quattro. I never took lot of notice of Bolan until many years later and could appreciate the genius of his poetic lyrics (he was one for the girls to prefer back in the day, lol)! My utmost musical preference has always been 1950s rock n roll and rockabilly, plus I declared myself a Mod at the tender age of about 6 or 7 (with my plastic cream coloured Beatles guitar). Then Punk came along and today I would claim the Sex Pistols as 'the' punk group but back in the day my preference was The Boomtown Rats. Folks, enjoy Mark Bolan's songs, todays music dont compare (or maybe one day I will come to appreciate Lady Gaga, LOL)!!!!

      I wasn't born in the 60's nor the 70's, but can you say Pink Floyd is not interesting lyrically? maybe the Syd Barret times were too surreal, but Gilmour is one of the best lyricist ever to me, of course... but yeah Glam has more theatrical features, and I love it, but so Prog Rock, actually they mixed a lot, like Bowie mixed Progressive with Glam, Roxy Music too, the definition of Progressive Lyrically is to tell a story therefore progressive (plus the progressive melodies of course), Pink Floyd are the ones who were called the exception, at least that's what I studied when I was finding music in my teens... Yardbirds, Modern Lovers, etc... great too, but yeah great comment from a person who's actually been there! Peace!
