  • In this tutorial we look at how to use geometry nodes in Blender to scatter a mix of objects on a series of faces using instancing. This is really useful as it allows us to do this for multiple scatter objects in one action and even control the proportion of how many of each object is scattered saving loads of time.

I truly underestimated the amount of work i could save with geometry nodes, i am old school and this make me remember to always keep in track with new features!

Just a note that I figured out messing around while following the tutorial
You can use several object nodes, instead of a collection if you want, you just have to join the geometry together before instancing. That way you can control the amount of each object in the node setup, however it quickly becomes a mess.
    Anyway, great video :)

Thanks. I had assumed if you join different objects together then they would instance together though? For example if you had two of the coins joined together the on instance would make two and one could be left hanging in mid-air. I might be wrong as thats a total assumption so I'll check it out.

@@ArtisansofVaul if you check the "as instance" on the object, it will join the instances together, instead of the geometry itself I think, in the end the join node will output several instances, instead of meshes

Hi! Thanks a lot for all the work you do. I'm starting with blender and your tutorials are a huge help. I have a question on this one. Would it be possible to had a second layer of coins on the first one to give the impression that it really is a pile of coin. Is there a node to do that? The only other way I see to do that would be to go to the point you boolean everything together in one object and use it a second time. Any thought on this?

      Thanks so much!
Good question. I think you would need to do it again as you have said, otherwise you're adding a lot of potential problems. The other method you could use is to just create a load of coins above the thing you want them piled on and use an animation to "drop" them more realistically. I have that process shown towards the end of this cell fracture video short: ua-cam.com/users/shortsxS3lwTuyKLo

Broski how do I use posiom disk option is I am let’s say distributing instances inside a volume and these instances are flat plane geometry

Hmm.... I haven't used it with a flat plane but it might have an issue with doing that correctly in the axis where the plane doesn't have a thickness... is that the issue you're having?

Amazing! Why can’t the objects overlap? That actually looked really good

They can of you don't mind it. As I say from a distance I think it looks fine. Close up its the issue that the coins shouldn't be going through each other. Totally personal preference

I think you should be a bit more careful with your intro pronunciation though, it sounds more like Arse Hands of Vaul lol
