I just want them to repair engineers. That's literally the only thing that stops me from playing. I do not have anything to do beside that and that's too boring.
So... what do you think now? Better, yes? The problem I had with all of this is that the engineering felt necessary so I did it. It wasn't necessary at all. Sure it added something to do, but it continually distracted from what I really wanted to do. There are plenty of in game activities that have nothing to do with engineering that people enjoy. FDev couldn't understand this concept, they thought that they needed to continually add "content".
I’m coming to terms with the sad fact that Elite is probably going to be sunset as a project once proper on foot thargoids are a thing. But if there’s one last feature rework to be done, FDev could do worse than your excellent suggestion for engineering materials.
Their game engine, I believe called "COBRA" is not suited for building a persistent universe by the users. But if it would have been able, adding the freedom of creativity like building bases on planets of your choice would be something extraordinary. The only persistent thing in the ED universe is the fleet carrier, but that colossal is already ready-build and not much to tune or modify except some AX-cosmetics one can buy. I miss the (freedom of) creativity aspect in this game and the ability to leave a real marker on the map, instead of only some name-tag attached to planets first discovered. And for some reason, naming planets to one's choice is also prohibited. If it is possible to name FCs than surely there is a qualified naming filter to accepts names for planets. But noooo, a name like KJH--0987-HD-BB is much more exciting! For me, these concepts would have completed the game, grind or no grind.

This guy gets it!

FDev has been suiciding their game for years.
Pretty much same here. Unfortunately F’dev sucks.
