    The really sad thing for me is that everyone is feeling the same and leaving. Players who survived the massive drought of content only to leave because they were lied to and lost the trust. The worst part is i can see Blizzard just looking at Overwatch, seeing the bad numbers, blaming the game and cancelling it. When the reality is management has bungled it so bad that they took what was one of the most popular games in existence after launch and just repeatedly burnt the player base with every greedy decision.

      It feels like you had a relationship, it was great for the first year or so but things started to die off a bit in the bedroom. But you still love them and enjoy their company every day.
      Then they go on a 3year sole searching retreat with promises to come back as a much better person. But in those 3 years they did nothing but sit around eating nothing but Doritos and mountain dew.
      Now they are back and they are the same person underneath, but it's an ugly version of them who is always demanding money for stuff that just doesn't make either of your lives better.
      Sex life is all but gone and you're thinking "is it time to move on? Maybe I should have left years ago"

      Business reality: The management deserves the credit for all the financial success a game may have, but the customers and developers will feel the consequences and get the blame when the game dies because of greedy monetization practices. This is how these people think.

    Overwatch 1 just gave you a lot more value as a player. There was an option to earn skins by grinding or by chance and getting lucky in a lootbox.
    I paid full price pre order and loved the unlock grind.. the fact that i felt like my time and money spent was being honored made me spend even more money.
    Shock that people are more willing to spend money when they dont feel like they are being robbed or their time is being wasted huh?

    • @chromaddict
      @chromaddict Рік тому +11

      I preordered the game at full price too and 100% agree with your comment. There's definitely a lot of wasted potential with OW2 and the direction that they've gone with the game has done nothing but made it an unnecessarily expensive lackluster experience with so much content behind a paywall, especially when compared to OW1. I hate that they thought doing that, along with making the game free to play was a good idea, especially when literally so many people already preordered and bought the game by the time they made that decision, so it's kind of like we all essentially wasted our money because we basically could have gotten the game for free. Then again it seems like their target audience now is new players and not so much anyone else, which is kind of screwed up honestly.

    There was no greater feeling than a skin being released for the new event for your favourite hero/main, so you level up and up, open a loot box, see that gold disc, hope, and get a big score of credits to buy that new, awesome looking skin.
    Or even playing the game for hours to win credits over time to get unlocks for your favourite hero. There was gratification.

      It 100 % did. I did not complain about the loot boxes at all. Playing the lottery can be entertaining when done responsibly, like opening a pack of baseball cards. Played at least weekly with friends for years before OW2 came out. Reducing the player numbers to 5 per team, introducing the battle pass, and locking new heroes behind that battle pass have so far killed my ability to return to the game the three times I’ve tried overwatch 2. And all my friends have switched to other games.
      Been having more success getting at least half the group to try Valorant over the past 2 months. It’s a solid hero shooter meets counter Strike but not filling the Niche OW1 had.
      Battle passes paywalling/timegating heroes encourage players to be married to the game but I have enough commitments in real life thanks.

The constant imbalance, increased pricing, seasonal model, mediocre story etc just became too much. Combine that with constant buffs and nerfs that never felt good in the slightest, and no single bit of food for the PvP side of the game and I was simply done.
      Sometimes I do miss it, and then when I look at the current game I'm reminded why I walked away, why I made the right decision. Bungie does not care anymore, it was never Activision who were at fault, this was always within Bungie's mindset. Nickle and dime the player base bit by bit, because that way nobody will notice it.

    As far as Mythic skins, there are currently 32 heroes that do not have one. If they prioritize existing heroes over new ones (big IF), the current heroes would still take 8 years to fill out. In the 32 seasons needed to fill that number there will be 16 new heroes added (assuming they continue on one every other season). For those 16 to get fill out there will be another 8, then another 4 from those, then 2, then 1. So, a total of 63 seasons to have every hero with a mythic skin. That is more than 15 years. And we have no reason to believe that they will prioritize old heroes for mythic skins it could be 15 years before all the current heroes have mythic skins. Of course that is all likely irrelevant since at the rate the game is going it is rather questionable that it can make it 8 years.

    OW path to redemption:
    1. Skin costs: Rare 3.99, epic 5.99, legendary 9.99. No skin should cost more than $10. Remove bundles.
    2. Add more ways to earn currency you can buy skins with. Specific challenges that are not based on # of wins.
    3. Remove weapon charms and souvenirs
    4. Add ability to customize existing skin colors with 3 basic shade combinations
    5. Add mythic skins to have a color gradient to be fully customizable instead of 3 combinations.
    6. Add ability to customize and mix and match weapons/items for a hero. Ex: Santa torbyorn gun but pirate torbjorn skin and classic torbjorn turret
    7. Ability to buy gold currency for $10.00 and get 110 coins or $25 for 275 coins (10% bonus)
    8. Fire the balance team. Setup PTR for beta balance changes and actually listen to player feedback. Soldier buff? Orisa buff? Wtf?
    9. Bring back PvE with long term rewards/hero ability modifications/mastery
    10. Add custom items as unlocks to battle pass. Like a unique equippable gun for a hero, or trip mine for junk or rockets for pharaoh, etc.

    Yeah, to me every 5 games WIN OR LOSS should show up, that way we are not being tricked psychologically that it looks like we just did a bunch of wins and it not acknowledge the losses too so when we don’t go up or derank it doesn’t feel like shit. They’re worried about us not wanting to play because we see our lost games but it feels worse ignoring them and showing wins and deranking. It’s like the system is handing you a cake just to drop it into the dirt on the next screen. And if people do see a bunch of losses and get frustrated, It’s better they take a break and recuperate rather than brute forcing through their anger and bringing that into the matches which probably contributes to the toxicity.

They add battlepasses and shop skins because they saw Fortnite do it and it brought in a lot of money but the difference is Fortnite clearly puts love and effort into updating their game with new weapons, map updates, new game modes, etc. In Overwatch’s case, it puts all the money related things without putting any visible love into it. I’m not trying to blame the devs because IK they’re getting fucked over by the money hungry higher-ups of the company as a whole. Ive been playing OW1 since 2016, its the same game. What do you wish to return from OW1, that would make you suddenly come back to OW2 and be a big fan of the game again?

    I feel that in Blizzard's goal to make MORE money, they scared off so much of their audience that they will end up making LESS money than if they'd done nothing. I think the PvE campaign would have more than made its investment back if they released it and brought players back into the game.

    Battlepass fits so well to Fortnite because you are always playing on essentially the same character. That means every item in the BP has value to you.
    Overwatch restricting unlocks based on hero means Blizz had to quickly come up with ”universal” items like weapon charms to just fill out the pass with junk.

    • @GaussianEntity
      @GaussianEntity Рік тому

      @@PeaceMastah Live service is absolutely the issue. When you produce a triple A game with a lot of features, you can sell it for a price and guarantee that you recoup the costs. In the live service model, you can put out all these microtransactions and not see a penny for it for a variety of reasons. That's why most F2P games fail that have no known brand backing them. But even brand names are starting to realize that whales are the main source of income so the microtransactions are becoming more and more whale-centric, which alienates the average consumer even more. This kills games btw as it is not sustainable and whales eventually move on to the next big thing.

  • @0hhoneyy
    @0hhoneyy Рік тому +5

    Whats crazy about monetization is that its easy to monetize skins if people actually want to play the game. Valorant skins are like $25 usually and they make a ton of money and theres tons of hype around whats in your store that day, what new bundles come out, and even things like Night Market. Of course its also cause skins are universal so you can use them every game. But the price is pretty similar to OW

    • @LordHaragnok
      @LordHaragnok Рік тому +4

      That's the reason that I wasn't super upset about the store prices at the start, but the skins themselves are nowhere near as cool as Valorant skins. Barely any have unique voicelines, effects, or other things to make them feel worth the money.

    • @burni988
      @burni988 Рік тому

      Yes the difference is what the skins offer. OW skins barely offer anything to the player besides maybe a couple unique voice lines or some minor customs sounds if you're lucky
      Val skins offers unique animations, multiple sfx, weapon fx and finishers as well as colour variants for a similar price. And val skins are all first person perspective focused so you actually feel the impact of your skins which isn't the case for OW.

    i am honestly not too bothered by the store prices, its pretty much on par with many other titles (not endorsing it, just stating facts), but its the experience you get from it. valorant skins make overwatch skins look cheap but still it makes me go "wow i would be so tempted if i main this game". then in overwatch you have blizzard removing the special melee sound effects from the epic comic book tracer skin(forget the actual name) in an attempt to make other skins looks better. and they do it in a season when they are trying to sell tracer mythic skin via the battlepass too, not to mention its so meh you forget you are using the mythic skins after awhile. the player experience in every decision they make is in such bad taste
