No, this is her second kid. Her first one is already 7 years old. There are now 6 'baby's'. The first one born in 2013 was Nukta, 25 April 2013, then the twins: 13 June 2013, Madiba: 24 October 2013, N'Irale: 23 November 2013 and this little sweety: 21 May 2014.
Baby apes and monkeys have an incredible grip from birth. It comes natural to them, like instinct. You would be amazed at how strong their grip is from birth. As for what other people are talking about. Her ratting her own shit. Well no one is 100% sure why they do it. I've studied apes and monkeys for years now. And not 1 person has been able to figure out why. Theorys are from they are just recycling it, smelling what proteins is in it or just wanting a hot meal. No one is for sure. Believe it or not it is a hot topic with people.
Cindy, question? Newborn nurse whenever they can ordinarily for how long, as long as mom lets them? Shantilla jerks baby by putting arms back, can she break arm when pulled? Are babies tough and grows no matter how mom's pull them? All these questions concern me because I don't know and would like to know. You are so good at taking video's and seem to know a lot about baby gorillas. Thank you Cindy and gives us more video's when or if you can.
Depending on the mom they can nurse whenever and for how long. Soms moms stop them now and then. Some moms even don't allow it all the time, but alle baby's get enough milk. Shatilla can't break her baby's arm. It lookes worse than it is. Gorillas are stronger than us humans. Very very very bad things have to happen before they are really hurt. Nothing to worry about!
Please tell what caused the deaths of both mom and baby. It was sad to read they had died, and I don't know if learning 'why' would make a difference, but I would like to know. I thank you in advance for your response,
Sickwill42 Exactly, it ate that Shit as if it was a cookie or something...lol I guess already digested doo-doo must be scrumptious to them!!...lol On a serious note, I wonder if they eat it because they crave it or instincts tell them that there is nutritional value in their redigested doo-doo so have at it.
EgyptRawFacts OrFiction They do it because they know it's good for them and depending on the kind of food they ate the day before it's even tasty (again).
EgyptRawFacts OrFiction if they got it together enough as a species, to ask these questions, we need to tell them about WalMart. Get some Oreos and milk!
You mean a gorilla on the internet or in a zoo? It happens a lot in zoos. And sometimes also in the wild. There's enough information about it on the internet. It's called coprophagy.
It's normal for gorillas (and other apes and other animals) to do it. Not only in captivity, also in the wild they do it. But less than in captivity. Google to see why they do it ;-)
The little girl is doing a great job! She's stronger than any baby I've seen before. She has a good grip when at mom's back. Being on her hand while walking is a bit more difficult. I hope Shatilla realises that asap.

I really think that she has a severe injury to her right shoulder and has lost strength in it. I believe its a torn rotator cuff..If you notice she even needs to hold her arm with her left.
It's terrible, the baby doesn't have the strength to hold on, and the mother carries it in her arms as if it was already a few weeks old! This is her first child? I know it's 8 years ago, but I've never seen her before, although I've seen twins. Eating feces probably indicates a lack of some nutrients, the zoo should diversify and enrich food after pregnancy and childbirth. She doesn't want to feed him either, she's more preoccupied with her own poo than with this baby. It's been a long time since I've been so negatively affected by the sight of a gorilla mom. It's very sad when a mother treats her child like this. Hope that will change. Sad.
@AnaArtg Thank you for your answer. A very sad story. Maybe it was because she was sick and the child was sick that she behaved this way (animals sense their children's illnesses and often abandon them knowing that they have no chance of survival). Unfortunately, it also happens that mothers who took good care of their children before, simply do not want more, reject them or starve them to death, and there are also such cases in the zoo. Sorry for the baby and mom.
I'm sorry I was thinking I was on the video someone had on here of the mother not letting baby eat cause she was drinking her own milk herself! I do enjoy watching your vids except for the poo eating
(Very late, but I've been very very busy the last months) Yes, really. Read about gorillas (both in captivity as in the wild) and you'll learn why they do it.
She is such a caring mum to her baby she is very good and the baby is so adorable and precious.
Ребенок горилы самый счастливый с такой заботливой мамой одно удовольствие смотреть на отношение мамы к ребёнку!!!
She is a great mom taking great care of her little guy
Mama's said: come on, pal! come closer and check it out my sweet breath!
Youngster: na, I'm good, I'm leaving, I'm leaving...
Adorable precious little baby...thank you so much for sharing, Cindy.
A little warm poop snack, then eat some grass to cleanse the palate and she's in Ape heaven. Then let the baby have some lunch and everything is ducky
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Shatilla seems like a real powerhouse. She pushed out a baby the day before and on the very next day she's bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Magnificent.
OH..........! SHE LOVE HER BABY!
Сами такие огромные , малыши масенькие у них 🥰🥰🥰🤩🤩🤩❤❤❤💯

Unfortunately both baby and mom died :'( The baby on 16 Nov 2014, at the age of (almost) 6 months; mom on 13 January 2015, at the age of 17.

@@GorillaFanNL-- What happened?? Why did they die??

Is she a first time mom? If she is she's doing a good job. How many little ones are at the zoo?

Autopsy showed that the baby had a heart problem. Mom died of acute leukaemia.
@@GorillaFanNL-- thank you
Baby was asleep so cute
Did mum defecate then eat it? Is that normal?
OK Thanks for the response.
Awww, she's adorable! The Shanna popped into my head when I looked at her...LOL! Who gets to name the babys? Beautiful videos Cindy, thank you!
Shana is one of the two names that popped into mine ;-) The keepers get to name the baby.
No se cansa de mirar a su hermoso bebé
Hungry baby 💛🌻 sleepy baby 🥰
Why on earth 🌎:those gorella's eat 🤔their stool??is it 🤔because there's something lacking in their diet 🤔this is very strange!!.
It's normal behaviour. Google it. They also do it in the wild every now and then.
I had to hit rewind, when I saw she ate her own doo-doo, about :42 seconds into the video, WTF.....lol
LOL, SO DID I!!!! When I saw it, I woulda SWORE she had just picked up a Danish, or something. I mean, she didn't even flinch, or grimace.

Wait....did mom eat her own poop?? At the 30 sec mark. I have never seen a gorilla do that before. 😳
You mean a gorilla on the internet or in a zoo? It happens a lot in zoos. And sometimes also in the wild. There's enough information about it on the internet. It's called coprophagy.
Baby is sleeping hard!
It is awesoom very good looking thank you .
Eek did she eat her poo, I didn't know they did that, yuk good video though.

Grazie mille per la bella visione!
You have people who watch this and still deny evolution.
Isn't baby to small to be carried in mum's arm? Seems baby too tiny to hold on.

No she didn't :-)

I really wish they don't show them eating poop! I skip them cause it's disgusting to watch
+Linda Moses I'm glad that they eat it. Because they need it!
@Linda Moses..yeah they could've spared me that sight as well!!!!!!!😵😵😖😖
