- Today's video is a really special one. Patrick's wife helps him make his wedding ring out of meteorite, rose gold, and carbon fiber. This is her first time ever making a ring and together they make an amazing ring. This ring is handmade using just an arbor press, drill press, Dremel, and mini lathe meaning that its totally possible to follow a long and learn how to make your first ring.

This just reminds me of my mistake to copy what you did: Used HCl because you can see whats happening in the jar. Now my meteorite ring is rusty :p no accusation, I knew it could happen.
P.S.: Your wife knows how to lathe? Thats kinda hot.

@@PatrickAdairDesigns Did you use HNO3/water for the etching? FeCl3 should work better, it will never rust.
@@LaserGadgets So what you're saying is that meteorite can actually be practical if it's etched with ferric chloride? If so, my ideal wedding band just became a reality. It's really only the rusting that put me off.
@@HammyHavoc I used HCl for my video, because you cant see much in FeCl3. BUT the water combined with acid makes it rust. I coated mine with UV resin, even that did not stop the rust. Etching it in concentrated FeCl3 should do the trick.

Heads up, a little chemist’s tip (not that I am one but I have studied some chemistry), add the nitric acid to the cup, then dilute with water, because diluting acids is a hyperthermic reaction which can produce a lot of heat, and if you add the water to the acid and it starts getting too hot you can stop adding more water, but if you do the reverse, you may end up with a reaction that gets out of control and bursts the cup getting nitric acid everywhere.
Your wife done all that work without chipping a nail 😆 beautiful ring and you're a lucky man you make a lovely couple.
