      @@mmoarchives2542 not necessarily but I get the parable.. It has a lot of truth to it, but it definitely isn't an absolute. sometimes those who choose peace might often choose to peacefully join an empire, or if their choice led to great wealth via trade then it can also be a path to actual power that allows them to compete in a world of conquering empires and bystanders.. bystanders can also be targeted by both sides the peace side might engage in economic warfare ie: trade embargoes as maybe a warring empire allows them to make profit ie: they're bankrolling conflicts.. and neutral parties tend to be hated by everyone.. unless you're Sweden and Switzerland.... But they did unique things in order to ensure their national survival during WW2.. Switzerland became the world's bank.... I forgot what Sweden did, but if neutral parties wish to avoid alliances and conflict they have to find a niche that allows them to be of use to the rest of the world.
      Sorry for the text wall, this topic gets my brain going mostly because this was my academic background when I was pursuing my phd. how countries engage in conflicts is numerous AF. And always a fun topic to dive into.

    The main problem with Type 3 is that it's really just a huge number of separate type 2 civs. All a type 3 really gives you is support for a lot more individuals. If you don't really want to have 1000 trillion people in your civilization as a goal it doesn't really give you much. If a scientist on star system X comes up with some great invention, it's still going to take centuries for the light speed comms to get to the rest of the T3 civilization (assuming no magic FTL communications)

    • @markaberer
      @markaberer Рік тому +2

      Yeah, exactly. That's probably also the reason why conflicts between those star systems would not be a danger to the whole civilization.

  • @QuantumS1ngularity

    Idk why people keep on wondering about communications. It's basically the easiest part of the journey - spooky action at a distance. Once we figure out how to entangle 2 particles together for an indefinite amount of time, with them having just 2 states, they are basically turning into transistors with coded value for "1" and "0". When change the state of particle A, which is located at Earth to 0, particle B, located 2 billion light years away instantly changes to 0, then you have a perfect mirror image of the information/code and it's a matter of reversing the values. The difficult thing is to keep them entangled indefinitely and add redundancy.

    Good video. The exploration of inner space - overcoming our inherited violent biological impulses - may be what makes it possible for us to progress. Aside from self-destructiveness, the great stumbling blocks to progress are interstellar travel at practical speeds and understanding consciousness well enough to digitise it.
    If full digitisation is possible, then space travel becomes much easier. The data of minds could stay in perfect condition and only need to be awakened during emergencies or when the destination is reached, thousands of years later. Also, if people live in a virtual world, then advanced aliens hack into the systems and (hopefully) initiate first contact ... as opposed to introducing digital viruses or taking over.

    when the distant, sapient ancestors of both man and chimp descended from our nests in the treetops to brave the dangerous grasslands of africa, we adapted longer legs, our hair grew thinner and shorter, we made new tools and developed new hunting strategies to facilitate them, and eventually started cultivating some animals and plants as a way to have a steady food supply. to survive being hunted ourselves, we straightened our stances and practiced grappling, turning our hands into one of the most deadly weapons in the animal kingdom, leagues above tooth and claw.
    when mankind first ventured from our cradle continent into the northern reaches of our planet, into hostile glaciers and icy mountain peaks, we grew shorter, more muscular, and lost the pigmentation in our skin. our hair changed colors, and so did our eyes. our bones were changed in minor structures and we developed new technologies and strategies to brave this ever-changing world.
    when mankind reaches distant stars and alien worlds, we will change once again, maybe in even more drastic ways.
    regardless, we will still be human.
    It doesn't matter how much the human race speciates from our ancestors or diversifies in form and function, we will keep our soul, and we will triumph over all hardships.
    until someone more determined than us comes along.

    The capacity for successful space exploration may require an intellect that is free from greed which can hinder progress and cause harm. Lack of greed represents a significant criterion for evaluating the worthiness of space exploration. Assuming that the speed of light is a fixed limit, any civilization that decides to become greedy after having already expanded into space will be unable to overcome the vast distances and obstacles present in space. The lack of greed may act as a safeguard against negative intentions that could potentially harm space exploration.

    What is not being discussed here is a truth about space exploration. When traveling through space there are many things that human beings need which are not plentiful; food, water, waste management, entertainment and so on. On the other hand, unmanned vehicles and robots need what is plentiful; energy which is plentiful in outer space, computer programming, and a sleep mode. The conclusion is obvious - most space travel, perhaps all will be done with probes, unmanned vehicles, and robots.

    I feel we need the ark to happen, the reason is if we are looking forward to beginning a space colonization, we need to start with what we got, with what we could build, just how we had carriages pull by horses, it was a beginning, and then we had cars with engines, and now we have electric vehicles, it all evolves, the thing is we have to start somewhere, we can not be standing around and just wait until we can finally travel at the speed of light to finally start doing something. Let it take the amounts of a thousand lifetimes if necessary, just grabe a selective amount of people that are willing to literally give their life’s for the cause, yes they’ll be born and pass away in the ark, but it’s all for the cause, and that comes with a sacrifice.

    Nothing impossible unless you deem it so that it will be impossible. It is our destiny to reach for the stars like the early explorers and adventures who braved the oceans to find new lands and people.
    Yes, there are dangers and many unknowns in space and other worlds, but we took our first steps when mankind landed on the moon in 1969. Now we are committed.

    Did you get chat GPT to write this? Rome had all these technologies that were lost forever” then a list of things we only don’t do now because they can’t be mass produced via a production line. (Including the cement which pretty obviously wasn’t lost forever) image how long it would take to get the government to shell out for an interstate highway if it had to be made with pavers and how quickly it would ware out.
    A Kardashev 1 civilisation should have enough energy to spare to get a Decent sized ship up to close to light speed at least every few decades at 5% of light speed Alpha Centauri is “only” a century away.
    Most of the civilisations in the games mentioned hardly use the amount of energy which hits the Earth so they are more like Kardashev 1. In foundation there is 1 Kardashev 1 planet before the dark ages everyone is just extremely spread out a Kardashev 2 civilisation uses ~10 billion times more energy than a Kardashev 1 civilisation that is probably 1/10th of the energy hitting every habitable planet in the galaxy.
    A Kardashev 3 civilisation would be at least 10 billion times that. Billions of Dyson swarms using all the energy from every star in the galaxy.
    The gloomy predictions of those scientists don’t happen at Kardashev 1 scales they happen at Kardashev 0.01 we have an immense way to go to get to Kardashev 1 and Kardashev 2 is currently beyond the imagination of most SciFi writers.

    well I would think you would allow a generation ship to edxpand itself, and also allow for space mining and production or new materials ie: a flotilla civilization... and yea, it might work there likely would be conflicts but then eventually there will be a way to resolve them and outright prevent them as everyone realizes what's actually on the line. allow people to set up stations in interstellar space and trade amongst themselves, etc etc... it would be an interesting concept because at this point, space would be the home of humanity.. and if it's forgotten they were suppose to go to a planet, maybe someday a future generation will pick up that mantle.. ie: going crazy and destroying themselves doesn't have to be a necessary result.. It just seems sci-fi writers at the time seriously lacked imagination and the implication of such a scenario. It could go in so many directions the options are limitless.

    • @vivjames1357
      @vivjames1357 Рік тому

      I have to agree somewhat, any generation ship mission directive limited to a specific destination and or colonisation goal is doomed to failure, an open ended journey of discovery evolving into various differing outcomes is far more likely to happen imo
